Ahh! Thanks! I found the site that hosted them once but I lost them.. Awesome, now we will be able to put em in the pokemon selection screen!

That's quite alright, do it in your own time.
It's not so much hard, its just so long. If I want to put in another displayer for our name then I will have to change each letter of the name (6 letters) and then each letter of the alphabet for that part of the name.. uhh makes me tired jus thinking about it!
I am about to piece together the picture which the name is displayed on, because the rip cuts it into little bits :( then I will do HP then I will do the name

Umm.. Hello, I havent been able to do very much lately because of all the moving I have been doing.. I am also very tired and will wait for DM to do the pokemon system. I need a break sorry, I cant work that much because starting friday, I have block exams. I think schoolwork is more important than programming.

it looks like everybody has exams now. I've just come back from a 2 hour geography exam. Anyway there's no rush, while everybody is busy with schoolwork they wont have much time for programming as well.

well I would be glad to code new pokemon in the game. there is a few problems though.. like we need the back and front pics of pokemon... and any other animations we might want to include eg. the little anim for crystal, when the pokemon come on screen.
You know what I would like to see? A pokemon game with completly new pokemon in it and no old ones. like for g/s/c they had the equivilent for bulbasaur, charmander, and squirtle which were cyndaquil, totodile, and chikorita... but they still had bulbasaur, charmander and squirtle included. I would like to see a game with totally new pokemon and no old ones.
anyway thats just my opinion, im not sure what everyone else would like to do..

I haven't had a chance to work on it much. Don't be expecting it for a while. School ends soon. Then I'll go off to sleep away camp over the summer, so when I get back (3 weeks) I'll work on it more. I'll just add bits here and bits there as the free time comes along :)

We're trying to make it easy for other people to use, but when the demo comes
out, it would probably hard for people first starting RM2K/3 to use.

I am sorry I havent been able to do much work on the battle because I have exams and so does pretty much everyone else on this project. I have another week of school before the holidays so I will have to wait till then.
In answer to your question, yes it should be easy to use but I would reccomend using rm2k3 for a while before implementing this into your game because I am sure it will be a bit hard to do. I have yet to see when we will get a demo out but it should be soon. If other people reply to this topic I will write back but I havent had any progress for a while so I don't post here (I check it every now and then).

I worked a tad on the selection screen. I've got the basics set up. Just gotta work on the CMS part. It shouldn't be that hard, just gotta keep working with those graphics :)

Should I set up the programming to work with one map for pokemon selection from menu and battle? Or should we make it less confusing and have one map for the menu and one map for the battle? I can go either way so I don't care

Ok deal. I still haven't started yet because I still have school but I have to have a plan before I code all of this anyway. DM is still working on the cms part of it and he is making advances but I will have to wait for him so I can start my part. Go at your own pace DM I would rather have it done good than quick :)

I got a great story for a Pokemon game, some original Pokemon (whose sprites, pictures, and all of that I have already made), & I was planning on putting in Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, maybe Orre, & a region I made myself [at the least my original region].
I have already made NEW maps for Cinnabar, the route leading from Cinnabar to Pallet Town, Pallet it's self, Route 1 through 5, Pewter, & Cerulean, from Kanto.
If anyone would like to hear MY ideas for a Pokemon game they need only to eMail me.

I think the story should be about a boy/girl who comes to a new land from Kanto and another boy/girl(RIVAL) from Johto they become neighbors
then another Girl don't have name idea is after a legendary pokemon haven't thought of which one and your journey begins when you go to the Profs lab you get your pokemon and the prof tells you that the girl is after the legendary pokemon you go on the journey and try and stop her

well if catching the legendary pokemon is such a bad thing then you wouldn't be able to catch it yourself, would you? Also there wouldn't be any reason to do the gym challenge either.

Well I was thinking the legendary is only bad if someone evil captures it so you kinda have to capture but you need to beat all the gymleaders to capture it and I was thinking the legendary could be Rayquaza or Deoyxs.
Or the prof doesn't tell you but you find out eventually

Since I had nothing better to do today I decide I'd come up with a story myself. Here goes:
Story
Hiro (name to be changed) is a 10 year old (age to be changed) boy (gender can be changed) with a passion for Pokemon. One day he goes exploring a tall mountain range with his Pokemon. When he reaches the top he sees a legendary mythical Pokemon (a new one, similar to Mewtwo). Through sheer amazement at seeing such a rare and powerful Pokemon, Hiro runs towards the Pokemon. Hiro startles the Pokemon thus causing it to lash out and attack with a beam. The beam knocks Hiro flying off the summit and landing far below. A group of trainers finds him and takes him back to his home town. When he wakes up he has amnesia and doesn't remember anything except the mythical Pokemon he witnessed. He makes it his aim to return to the mountain summit and get closer to the Pokemon. The police however, who do not want the same incident to occur again, have put security at the bottom of the mountain and only trainers that have proved their strengths and ability to handle powerful Pokemon by defeating the Elite 4 can enter the mountain. Thus, Hiro sets off on his journey to collect all the gym badges and defeat the Elite 4 and return to the mountain and capture the Pokemon. The story of the mythical Pokemon being spotted attracted the attention of Team Rocket (name to be changed) who makes it their objective to capture the Pokemon to front their mission to conquer the world (mission objective to be changed). This makes it your goal to thwart Team Rocket's plans and achieve your own goal.

That sounds like r/b/y where you must defeat the elite 4 to be able to catch mewtwo from the cave.. I don't know maybe everyone would like to see a change in storyline, I am sorry but I just hate the old storylines so much, You know (where you have to do one thing to do another)..

it's not that you have to do one thing to do another. It's just that the story implements the 3 main features of pokemon games, collect the badges, defeat the evil team and capture the pokemon. I just thought that the story gave a bit of depth and meaning for those actions. And who says we can only have one story? Pokemon games are huge and there is plenty of opportunity to include other storylines.

Let me explain, we are making two battle systems; one for the public, and one for us. We are making game, but it has no name yet.. We still have no storyline and graphic suggestions for the main character. Since it is related to this and we all post here then why not talk about the next stage after the battle system has been completed?
We can't make a new thread because we are not ready yet, to prevent spamming and creating useless topics we just save space by posting relevent stuff here.
I like the idea about several storylines (like mini-quests) but I think you should be able to choose your own storyline by the things you want to do. Like have several possibilities and choices every now and then to decide what you end up doing.. Eg. storyline where you fight the legendary sea pokemon by talking to/battling with sailors etc. Or storyline where you train up to fight the elite four(five?(six?))
Whatever.. You know what I'm talking about?

I have a idea maybe you can become different things also besides a trainer like a breeder,gym leader,or something else then you could start focusing on that subject like gym leader you would get a gym and people come at random times to battle if that is possible or breeder you can get a breeding center start raising pokemon.

We would have to work very hard to keep finding things for gym leaders and breeders to do other than just stand around... I can't think up anything else for them to do on the spot.. Maybe the gym leader will go to special meetings with every other gym leader and they all compete for something.. Or maybe every now and then someone tries to steal badges and you must stop them..? I don't know.. Too tired to think

the only thing i can think of for breeders would be to make it sort of like harvest moon where you have to grow and look after your own crops to feed to the pokemon to improve their stats for the contests. But that would be like making two games.

Hey guys, I'm back. You guys are making great progress with the battle system, keep ot up! As for the game, I think it would probably be better if it travelled along the same Trainer catching Pokemon, beating the Gyms & Elite four, it would be too hard to make it work for a gym leader or a breeder.

Well, I've made a project at lateralshift. I named it "group project"
for now. If anyone wants to know my ID and password and they're
part of the group project, just post here or PM me.
Should I make 2 projects? One for the main game and one for the battle sys.
If we're going to release it later on, it would be better using the space of a
different project rather than the main one (the actual game) we're using.
Just in case some people don't know, the game has not actually been
started yet.

it has been started...sort of. I've made a couple maps, one for the home town and one that contains all of the houses in the town. you should make two different projects because the public battle system will be slightly different to the one used in the game.

Just in case you don't know where the screens are they're in the "upload files"
section.
phoenix316, I especially like the town screen.
The hero's house seems a bit small though.
Maybe you should add separate rooms for the hero
and his parents, siblings and so on.
Also, next time upload the screens after you
change the directory to "screens." That way we can
upload them to the site.

oops, sorry my fault. i tried to delete the files and upload them as screens but they wouldn't delete.
i'll probably add another room to the heroes house for the mom but i don't think it needs to be much bigger than it is because the bigger it is the more space needs to be filled up.
Also, daegon i hope you don't think this is rude but what role are you playing in the game development?

I'm meant to be the one ripping/making chipsets along with a different member,
but I think the other members can do that better than me.
So I've also decided to do some coding for some side events (I'll tell you guys later)
and help out the members by doing the things that they have trouble or can't be
bothered to do that much. In other words, doing as much as possible.

That's what I thought we were doing :)
Daegon, I wouldn't trust anyone else with our hardwork than a remote webhost. A remote webhost won't just remove all your files after he has downloaded them..
If you want to do some side events for the game while the battle is still going then feel free too, just don't do anything too complicated with lots of variables and switches we can't change later.. part of this is the reason below.
Well... The battle system uses (so far) variables: 1-74 and for some reason 145-146.. I think it uses some variables from the 2500 block for pokemon information. Also it uses switches 1-27. Please remember this while making your games.. I am sorry but I can't change those switches or variables now, it is too late and would ultimately slow down progress of the battle..
Ok progress report:
I have been working very hard and now I can display our pokemon's HP. I don't think I can make it rock up and down though.. Just because of the way I have done it.. I am working on the name display and the HP and Level numbers.. But I think I will do the enemy's stuff first.
I am going to put in a nifty little piece of coding to make the HP go down bit-by-bit. As it is, huge chucks just dissapear.
Phoenix, I can't see .PNG's only for some reason.. Wierd because it used to work :(

Meerkat, firstly right after I'd written my last post my brother
deleted my work and formatted the PC. So the status system I've
been working will have to be discontinued. Also, meerkat, you don't
have to push yourself if you're sick.
Just in case anyone wanted to know about the status system
here's some info:
1. Just having attk, spd was too boring so I added happiness, hate,
love and some other emotions and also hunger and tiredness.
(also by having this you can make it so you can check the power
of frustration and return and the rest of the attks to see how much
power they can use in their present condition)
2. Also added critical hit percentage (goes along with emotions)
3. Also added mental power (a bit like focus band where the attk only gets
the pokemon to 1HP, but this gauge shows how long the pokemon can
do this)
4. Was about to make the pokemon recovery spd gauge ( time to heal self after
battle-also goes along with tiredness, hunger, etc) but the computer got formatted.

if it's free then i can't see any harm in letting the guy host our game. After all we'll still have the lateralshift one if anything should go wrong.
Back to the game, i'm gonna make a few more maps over the next couple of days and i'll upload screens (as .bmps for krazy) to the lateralshift site when i'm done.

Daegon, Those are some nice effects.. But you will never get them done.
I would've thought you would learn to back up things on your PC after your brother deleted and formatted them. You could at least upload them to an internet site.
I am sorry that your stuff got deleted but your brother is obviously going to keep doing this.. I'm not relying on you for anything in the project so you don't have to waste your effort on something that will probably be deleted.
Anyway those extra's can be for our battle system, this is the public one and we are not changing it.
I am releasing a pre-release demo to a few people, this will contain the battle system, but not the item system or pokemon selection system. Umm I suppose you could use the PC system I made but with no item system you can't use pokeballs to capture pokemon.. It will only be set up to battle wild pokemon and trainers..

alright what's going on? i've tried to upload a new town to the lateralshift site and i keep getting an error message saying that it is an invalid file type. It is a .png and i uploaded it under /screens.

Daegon, I tried it, I needed to change some things but I really like this! We could make it so that when your pokemon are low level, they cannot walk very far without having a rest.. And we can make it re-generate while they are resting! Then when your pokemon become stronger, they don't need to eat as much and they can walk for ages without having to rest!

I added a little rest-regeneration thing.. You have to be standing still for 1 second for it to start regenerating. We could have little resteraunts in the game where you can bring your pokemon to eat as well. Also pokemarts should sell pokemon food, and when you heal at the pokecenter they should feed your pokemon.
I do have one question though.. What happens when you are all by yourself and your last pokemon faints..? Should we just make it like when you lose a battle and you get teleported back to pokecenter..?
EDIT: Here is the file with regeneration.. I change the man to say what is actually happening in case people didn't know. Just walk around lots to make your pokemon tired

it's a cool idea but shouldn't you get a warning that your pokemon is about to faint instead of it just fainting.

PKMN_Sage, we don't have a name as of yet, but I do have an idea of what it should be. I think Krazy had the same idea at the start of the thread, it's Pokemon *new region* journey/adventure/story/without any of these. Because that way it is guaranteed to be an original name...

Anyway I had better go to bed soon, I have to start work at 9 :( Don't like getting up in the mornings... Are you sure Daegon? I was going to change the PC thing anyway so that it auto-loads/saves variables for pokemon and I just had to change the list..
I would like a bit of a rest... I think I have lost my enthusiasm for the battle system.. I just need to get away from it for a little bit, then I will be ready to tackle it again. :)
A lot of problems are arising because we didn't talk about which types of variables we would need and how many of them. Maybe we should.. not do that again

I like the idea of two regions and the way they link to each other and the maps look great. However, there are 27 cities/towns altogether and that sounds like a lot to me. We already have the a possible starting town but you can have a go at making one as well if you want. I think the starting town should be the one furthest lest on the first map and then go upwards and we can build maps from there. When you have completed a map post it at the lateralshift site and not here.

Well, it worked fine for me, but I have some questions. For us to use this in our games, what do we have to do to the events in your game. Do we just copy paste or what? Also, what variables/switches/common events do we need to keep clear to avoid issues here?

Maybe you should make more space around the gym.
If you see the games, they always have some space
surrounding them. (green grass, sand, etc) Also, I think
the houses should have green roofs to match their surrounding,
or make the houses bigger in width. I think 4 tiles are a bit too small.

Ok first thing's first. Thanks so much everyone for all your good comments :D
I know about the bug where you press on pkmn or bag and it doesnt work. this is because of switches, I just haven't got around to doing those parts yet.. EXP works, leveling up works, HP works, and the PC storage thing works!
Ok Firstly, you should probably know something about switches and variables if you are gonna use this in your game.
To use the PC, you will have to get into a battle.. got it? then when nothing is happening (when it is your turn), press F9 and go into the variables part. just scroll right because otherwise you would have to go through lots of variables. anyway go to a variable called ITEMUSE i think... then make it's value 1.
after you have done this press escape a few times to go back to the battle. This will have activated the pokeball item. then after you catch a few, you can go to the PC and withdraw/deposit them, once your party is full and you catch another latios, it should be sent to your PC through a system of variables.. then no more should be sent after your PC is full. ok i am done, thats how you use the PC
Who was it that said the run away option didn't work??? It works! **** well infact. I made it pause for a few seconds then determine to runaway or not.

You know, the battle system has a LOAD of useful stuff. Before now I'd just played through the battles on the game but now I've actually started to look and work onto it. This thing can be expanded BIG TIME. I wouldn't have minded if this had been the final version let alone a demo. OK enough of the praise now.

A fair warning though: All of my "chipsets & that kinda' stuff" got "accidentally" erased, thus I have started all over, but I still have alot of stuff left so it shouldn't take long.

Rebellee, I was only making the battle system, not the PC system. I included a small PC system which could be expanded on because the battle needs one. I will be re-modelling our one later, the public will have to make their own if they are not content with what is there.

Well, here's a demo of the item system. However, if you only pick 3 items,
some combinations will not work. I haven't added the scrolling loop and quantity
for every item in this one. Tell me if there are any other bugs I should work on.
Also, since I haven't modified the charasets, you should check the events
to see how the pictures should look.
Or a better way of inputting the events. If you've fixed the 3 item bug,
tell me how or upload the file please.

Well, I've fixed all the bugs that were in the other one and made the events
a whole lot easier to understand and shorter. All I have to do is add the scrolling
event and the event to go to other sections of the bag. (should I do the latter or

Try using this. I've changed the file default to a .xyz.
Anyway, if this doesn't work, change the system file to one that works
for you. (preferably RTP)
And if you've got no system file that works for you wait for the
final release. This one's lacking things.

I'm doing up a tutorial now for the battle sys. I am going to add an attack called Leer.. unfortunately I forgot that I gave the enemy pokemon no special abilities lol. It doesn't have a defence...
Anyway I will just make it raise our attack temporarily. ehehe nobody will be able to tell the difference.
I am d/l ing your item system daegon i will tell you how it goes.
OK... I pressed escape and it said the file numbers2 cannot be opened... Good start but there is still a fair bit which needs to be done lol, just like the battle sys.

Hey everyone, I had typed my last post like an hour ago but i just hadn't clicked on submit reply lol.. I'm a fool.. Anyway everyone I have good news, it took me a while but I completed a tutorial on how to add attacks to the database of the battle sys. More will be done later but the attacks are done now.. It has not been tested yet though! it should work but please don't be angry if it doesn't...

no no, it's ok. I copied one from pokemon liquid..
Anyway Nothing appeared when I opened the menu.. I had no idea what the variables were doing because I wasn't in test mode..

I've a question about changing party pokémon in the game. Example:You have 1 torchic and a wingull how can u switch between those to, that the wingull is on the 1st place and is used as first Pokémon in the battle?

Well, I've been thinking about some code for the pokemon selection screen
and this might help you Sharpedo.
First you set up a parallel event and save all your pokemon's data in backup variables.
Copies of the original data of your pokemon.
Then you make variables called select poke1 select poke2 and so on.
Then when you want to change the pokemon you do something like this.
Change variable poke1 with poke2 backup (changing the pictures)
change variable poke1data to poke 2data backup (changing data-there should be loads of these)
Well, this is just a thought. I thought of it while making the item system.

Variable "backup" set equal to variable "original"

Make the newbie and advanced tutorials with pictures both, even if your VERY good at RM2k3 it is still quite a help to see it in a screenshot, because sometimes I do something wrong when I try some tutorials because they are so badly explained, etc.

Sharpedo, Well I was thinking of using an extra (spare) set of variables for switching.
I would just make all the data from the first pokemon be copied into the spare one, then copy the second pokemon's data into the first one and fill up the second one with the spare data.
Meh.. At least I understand it.. :P
I agree with you on the screenshots thing DM, I get a little confused when I miss something and then the tutorial just keeps going on without helping me solve my problem :(
EDIT: Has anyone tried using the tutorial yet? I am not even sure if it works, feedback would be nice if anyone has used it :(

Well, I managed to take a glance at the file but the first time I saw it, I thought
the text was too small so I just closed it in frustration. (It was 7 in the morning and
I hadn't slept) Now, I saw it again today after I slept and the file won't open.
Something about an error.
Anyway, I'll try and learn by myself how to do stuff. I'm already fiddling around with it.

The item system file seems to have been deleted and the HD formatted.
I'm looking for the backup disk right now. I'll have to code in scrolling loop
though and I forgot how to do that! I guess I'll just spend another couple
of days figuring it out.

yeah i tried it, it works up untill the last 4 or 5 lines. I can't remember properly but I think if you want the Pokemon to have the attack then it overwrites tackle.

I finally finished the scrolling problem! It took me about 4 or 5 days to complete but I've finally done it!
*runs around the room*
All I have to do is add the finishing touches.
Anyway, how many items does the "items" section of the bag hold?
Just need to know that. I think it was 20 but I can't remember.

The maxium items is 20 I think, like you said, but the maxium ammount of the same item that can be stored in one space is 99, when it goes above 99, it creates a new space for the item, and fills that up.

I never noticed until now that when you move up and down in the item screen the bag shakes, and there is this thing that spins around when you switch between the bag sections.

I was trying to do it in FR/LG. Well, I've just got to add the events for 20
items but I haven't got the charsets to make 99 for each for the time being.

Yeah, that's because that is for making attacks in attack slot 1, you can easily make adjustments for other attack slots.. I'm not sure if I have done coding for more attack slots.. Anyway this is the first demo of the sys so please cut me a bit of slack, I have already fixed a few bugs with it..
I will make sure the next version has coding for all attack slots... I am having a rest from coding so I can't really remember EVERY little detail :(

DM, do you have any idea when the pokemon switching thing will be done?

Absolutely no idea whatsoever. I don't really work on it very much, though I have done some things. It really depends on how much you want put into it. My priority has recently become Lunar though. I'll work on it here and there.

Well, I'm back from a 2 day holiday.
Krazy, I'll get the 20 items done then I'll upload what I've done so far.
You can carry on with it. I'm sure there's a few bugs though. I
don't think I can do alot more because I'm only allowed to code for about
30 mins a day. All the coding's made my eyesight terrible...I have to eat
25 carrots a day.

Ah, I hate it when parents do stuff like that. It's not logical, there's no way to verify or justify it's validity, and the rule (less computer) is only to protect you from a threat that doesn't exist. Ah, the misery of being a minor.
I'm not sure about carrots being propaganda though. Isn't there some science behind it?

Well, here's the item system done for 20 items.
I haven't finished the coding (which I could have done)
but I'm sure Krazy can figure this out real quick.
The coding's done in a very easy to pick up pattern.
Tell me if there's any missing files. I'll upload them here.

I thought that it was a bit too rude just leaving all the work
for Krazy to do so I tidied up the variables and did a bit more coding.
Anyway, you'll have to finish all 20 events on the second line. (I only did 8)
Also, you'll have to finish the coding for event 31 and finish the other scrolling codes.
(only did scrolling events 34 35 57 58)
My idea coding for scrolling is in 31 34 35 57 58. Talk to the weird guy on the screen. Press ESC to go to the first map.
I couldn't edit my post for some reason so I'm uploading this here.
*note: the item system is not yet compatible for 20 items*

Thats great daegon! I only just tested the other item sys and you have done a good job. I will do a simple looping code for the items, that way, when you scroll down, only a small piece of coding will be needed to move the pictures.. not now though, i have work tomorrow, then two days off school! yay

umm.. that was nice of you, but i had the r/s font a long time ago and i was the first one here at PC to develop the pokemon-style CNS.. so it is all done now

Daegon, I really don't mean to offend you, but I was totally confused by your item system.. There was like 50 events... I could barely understand how I was meant to change the numbers into item names.. It looked like your item-display event was packed with coding, I thought you might need to simplify it a little bit.. I also think you used far too many lines of coding for the variables... Most of it doesn't make sense to me.. But I will whip you up a little scrolling event because you are a good friend..
I will put this to you straight Daegon, I have been offered another bag system for use in the battle system and I don't want you to work anymore on this item system (unless you can make it simpler and more efficient) because I don't want you to do a whole heap of work for nothing when there is a much simpler way to do things. If I can understand this new bag system and can easily code it to fit our battle then I will most likely use it (if your system is still incomplete). But if I don't decide to use it then I will be more than happy to continue working on the current one with you.. I don't mean to hurt your feelings or offend you in any way, I just can't work with this system at the current point in time, and I would like to try something new.
I will upload the item system when I have completed your scrolling event.

I wouldn't say better, just more advanced. This one has been worked on longer than yours. Anyway I have already started work on it, I have done half of the scrolling event and I just need to do the one which moves the items up when you press down..

I'm having a bit of trouble with the item sys.. I can't figure out how I am going to display the items... I am using a switch for which item is held.. then variables for how much of the item is held and which item slot it is in.. I'm just not sure how I can put all of this together without millions of lines of coding

You can have up to 30 of each item and you can have 10 or 11 items.. I havent done the second part of the scrolling event and I don't think I will because I am not very much good mucking about with pictures...
I also made it so that when you select an item, it displays a discription of the item (which was already half-done (thanks mena:)))
I will do some more work tomorrow but there isn't much left..
P.S. I can go for my learners tomorrow :P But I think I might go to school... Not sure..

Umm... I wasn't really planning on it, There is up to 60 graphics of numbers so I suppose you could go up to 60, I am only doing the coding for 30 of each because I think that's a reasonable amount and If you want more, code more yourself, thats what the battle sys is all about :)
