I found a rather interesting tutorial today: http://www.gamingw.net/tutorials/831
It is a pathfinding tutorial.. I know we already have an in-built one but this one can walk around a building to the door.. Quite interesting, since I thought it was impossible...
I might attempt it at a later point in time.. I was making a runescape-type game (point, click and move) a couple of years back and this is what I couldn't accomplish

It's still rather interesting, why don't you all check it out

Ok you use the change hero sprite to a hero on a pokemon then turn phasing mode on/start slipthrough on that should work i don't know because i have never tried it

Last question I have for a while, I hope, how do you make a pokemon use surf?
Ok I did something like this for pokemon rusty II.. It's not as simple as you think.. I added events all around the outside of the water so that if I tried to surf, it would ask me.. Then when I was transformed into the surfing sprite, I made the event which I had placed on the inside of the bridge-type thing or whatever, ask me if I'd like to stop. That stops people just surfing all over the bridge and walking on water. You have to use your own imagination to fill in the blank spots

I have a preety good understanding of how this works. I have figited with the idea, and just would like to know, really now, how do you make it so that you can surf, but when you hit the water, you can actually surf, and are not stopped?

Change the tileset settings to make it so that water is a walkable tile :)
That's why I had the events, put them on the same level as the hero so he can't walk onto the water

Ya it's what I said.. If there is an event (on the same level that the hero is on) in the way the hero cannot move there.. Doesn't matter if it has a charset or not

Yeah, an Idea just popped into my head, I just tested it in my game, and it works. It helped that some was explained to me though, as it made it easier. But, I now, in my game, have a fully functional surf. I ended up using a variable to determine if you were surfing or not, and then one to determine if you had a pokemon that could surf or not.

I don't quite understand... Do you have it set to parallel proccess or autostart?
Just select the erase event command.

\n[0] will automatically state the name of the party leader, if you find that useful.

Soz for the double post
I haven't been here for awhile,so how do you stop an event from happening more than once?If Possible,use screenshots to help me understand better.
Ok then i will explain
first in put what you are going to do then make a second page in the event commands window then on page 2 tick the box in event conditions and click the 3 dots and make the name for the switch and click page 1 and at the end of all your cold click in the event commans window, change switch select the one you created and whoola
p.s if you are using autostart on page 2 make sure it is set to push key

or, you could just make it Erase Event after the event is finished, but, thats just me. Do it whatever way you would like!

For the item, I'd say make the character and animations with the item over its head, then go ahead, and, when you want to pick up the item, make you switch your Hero sprite Association to the new Sprite. Did that help in any way?

Here is my dumb question for the day, I'm sure. How do you make it, so when you look at a map, or you're map, it shows up on the screen, with that selecty thing on it? I'm sure this has an easy answer, I just am a little tired today, so, thus, can't exactly think straight.

well the picture springing out thing is actually quite easy

you just have to use the "show picture as" feature in the event editor and
choose the right cooridinates...when you dont want it there nemorer,just use erase picture (you numbered the picture) then the picture #

Hey, you can do this. Make an event and do this.. Click memorized position then click ID and make a variable called ID. Then click the X and mak a variable called X and click Y and make a variable called Y.
Memorize Location: [0001], [0002], [0003] ( ID, X, Y)

Then click show pic, then under variable reference, put in X and Y variable
Show Picture 1, ****Your Picture**** (V[0002],V[0003]) and set the magnification to small.. you will have to keep trying it out. If you have not made a pic try it. this is only my advice you know. That is what i done. Good Luck.

I got a rather bizarre request - does anyone have a donkey charset, faceset and battle animations? Yes, that's a donkey as a playable character! Or will be, if I can get these resources.

ok, question, are there any games that have been scrapped including the Hoenn region, because I would love to use the source, and revive the game (Yes, It would be combined into Pokemon OT Wood, and yes, this is lazyness) Why, because if I had just the level layouts of hoenn in RPG maker, I could much sooner release a demo, than without. Thanx.

Hoenn, maps and Chipsets I made. This has about 1/3 of Hoenn, with R/S graphics... Most chipsets custom. Use them well, and give me credit...

Hero speed:
Move event: 'Hero' speed up/down

map thingy:
background=map, pointer=pointer event.
You should check some tutorials first before trying
this though.

Hate to make a duplicate post, but I've managed to find a horse that's easily editable to a donkey, but I haven't been able to find a faceset and I've given up hope on ever finding a donkey battle animation. If someone would be so kind as to make one, I'll be eternally grateful.

Easy way:
change hero graphic (hero's head)
If variable (hero's town location) = ?
teleport hero to (the section of the map the hero's currently located)

repeat process in bold for every town.

Hey, can someone rip me the sound of the hero jumping over one of those hill things. You know that you can't jump while going 'up' but can jump down. Or same thing for left or right, depending the facing of the hill thing that you jump over.

It's just that short 'oop' sound that lasts about 1/2 a second.

Ehh, besides this request here, I have another.

You see, whenever I make a chip set, I can import it into RM2K3 and map it but whenever use it in the game, then only thing that shows up is the upper tile layer. The lower tile layer is just the default background color.

So could someone make this chip set:

Workable in RM2K3. Maybe it just needs to be an XYZ file type.

Actually, you just need to convert the chipset to a .png file. You can do this in iDraw, or even MS Paint if you're on Windows XP, or just on any decent graphics program. Bear in mind it has to be 256 colour though.

Meh, you spelled spelled wrong too (you tried to say spelt. Had you spelled it that way, it still would've been incorrect). All you have to do is right click where you want the screen to fade out and then fade in on the ship (of course in 'edit this event layer' mode) and then click where you want the hero to be. Do the same thing from inside the ship to where ever on land you want the hero to come out.

When i click into my monster groups or battle layout (for rpgmaker 2k3)
it gives me a warning saying:

"access volation in module "rpgmaker2003.exe" at address 005-e74f with offset 00000018 of type read occured"

can someone tell me what i did wrong- and how to fix this?

well i planed on bringing out a demo of my game (pokemon Silk), but the file size was 2 big,
and i end up deleting files all over the place, and i'm afraid i deleted an important file.......... The game is fine when you play it, but ONLY when you click the Battle Layout or Monster Group tabs in the database i get that message.

That's because you probaly deleted a 'system2' file and a few 'monster' files

Check your terrain type it might be set to alcolve damage or poison swamp also check the map for any flash screen events

Simple solution, your tileset you are using is set to be un-passable, meaning that the spots that your character can walk on, are marked with an X at passibiliy. Change the tileset to O's and that makes it so you can walk on the spaces. To exactly get here, go to the Database, Tileset, and then to Passability.

I am thinking of making a game. It is in the early planning stages. Very early! I have a vauge idea of what I want with my finished game. Since I suck at everything, I'll probably need some help. It's about a person (you) who travels the world looking for legendary Pokemon while becoming a trainer. I need to know who hard it will be to make. I was planning on using RPGmaker 2003, because it is free. When I have RPG maker 2002, I'll make a demo, then I'll think about making a team.

How hard do you think it will be to make?

Even if not, I've tried converting to 256 colors, and then to Png, and I still have the same problem. Can anyone help me?

2) You can raise the characters stats in the database.

The screen can be changed into this small. That is almost
like GBA!
Quite strange I haven't noticed, cause I've been working with Rm2k for
about 2,5 years now! http://pokecommunity.com/images/smilies/Normal/confused.gif The smallest is actually 320x240 on your screen, which is what RM2K was built for. So your quality will be its best in the smallest window :) Full-screen stuff has a tendency to look crappy.:P

You probably have the full size option on. On the buttons, there should be one with a box and arrows pointing to all four corners. Unclick that button.

I never used a patch I just installed the japenese language pack and grabbed the enter name fix rpg_rt.exe! But most likely you should just be able to patch it!

My running shoes code does not work right. When you use the shoes, until you turn them off(the shoes, not the game), you are stuck in place.

There's your mistake. You want it triggered as Parallel Process when the switch is on, not Auotstart.

Me again, erm... Im using a DBS and I have it working perfectly. But when I Added a change BG to 1 with a HP Bar at the end of the coding ( I have the coding for it) and at the point where the trainer is erased. The Pokemon doesnt show and i win the battle, wtf is goin on? :\

It's not easy :\ ......You have to know a lot of GM...Cause when I decided to start a game called Emerald(this was before i knew it was gonna be a game!!!) I didn't know enough.

On RPG Maker 2003 I have a "Parallell Process" that sets the hero speed down and an "On Hero Touch" Event that brings professor Coke...er OAK (lol lil' pun of mine) upto u and do the whole "Come to my lab thing". I had the OAK Event first but then i added the "Slow hero down" PP event and the seemed too cancel each other out.
E.g. I walk at normal speed and when i step on the OAK Event it acts like its not there.

What the heck's goin on?

It depends on how your making your game. If your using a CBS you would just change the picture and variable number and increase the stats.

Please, Please help me. My font is messed up. I d/l-ed the font patch but it didn't make any difference. I think my copy of rm2k3 is faulty because the folder isn't enterbrain or rpgadvocate, it just says rpg2003. Does any one know how to fix this or a link to a better copy of RM2K3?

You've got to lower it to 256 colors. I suggest Paint Shop Pro for this as you don't get any noticable color loss.

Sphere is a game creation engine.
Geared towards console style rpg's but almost anything can be made in it.
It uses the Javascript langauge for programming,but don't be scared if you have never programmed before you could pick it up easily.
Also sphere is open source there are developments being made all the time.
Like just yesterday I reported a bug and it was fixed in the same day,you wouldn't see that happen with rpg maker and sphere is leegal.

CBS's are just as complex no matter what you use. It really depends on what program you have mastered. If you know JavaScript use Sphere as it is better but if you don't then use RM2K.

As for a cbs,my opinion in the 4 years I've used rpg maker and 2 years using sphere(total of 5 because I only fully stoped using rpg maker about a year ago) is that it would be easier but would take you alot longer to do a cbs in rpg maker but that it would be harder in sphere but take less time.
Like Phoenix316 said a cbs is complicated no matter what engine you use but there is only certain limit to the complexity,as logic would indicate the complexity goes up with the different facilities you get,i.e rpg maker -> Sphere ->Some high level languages like c/C++.

Hey I know a bit about picture-based menues etc. It is hard to make out what it wrong with you're game but I would say you are missing a certain file.. It sort of looked like the file was supposed to be in (D:)

It doesn't look like a missing file. It looks more like an application error or a virus. Have you tried following that link on your comp? Maybe that'll help. Also if you've added anything to that part of the battle system, just check that everything should work. Other than that I haven't got a clue, sorry.

Chances are it's that file! .pas is not a file type used by the rpg_rt.exe I think! Well I think it means Assertion Failure in file LGD_Picture.pas on line 448! Not sure if that helps! Just check the file location!

Are you using a CBS or DBS?
For a CBS, you need to create an event on every grass tile that triggers the cbs. For the DBS you need to create a monster area around the grass area.

Please just read the documents that come with sphere.
The document on the system menu scripts explains it very.
Just in case you are to lazy to look for it,here it is :

How to use the Menu object (provided by the system script menu.js).


Step 1:

Include the menu.js system script.

EvaluateSystemScript("menu.js");



Step 2:

Create a menu object.

Step 3:

Set any special menu properties.

Add the menu items.

Click on project on the menu the go to configure sphere.
Then configure which ever video driver you want to run in windowed mode.
Sphere only runs 320x240 resolution games in fullscreen.
If you want a different res. you will have to run the game in windowed mode.
To change the resolution go to project and choose game settings.

Okay In sphere I need help, I have done the item system but how do you make it so that when you choose the item it does something instead of just say item used? So when you choose potion to make it heal a person you chooses health. I have tried with many unsuccesful attempts

I said, I don't want a wait. I want the event stopped. Completely. Allowing the hero to move of free will. And then I want it to be able to start again, like.....

The Event is stating an announcement, and asks all events (includign the hero) to walk up and choose something. I want the hero to be able to walk of free will up there, but then for the event that's stating the announcement to be able to carry on and for other events to go up after the hero. I can just have the base event move the hero, but it might confuse first-time players as to who's the hero.

I can just have the base event move the hero, but it might confuse first-time players as to who's the hero.

What you could do then is erase the event, allowing the hero to move freely. Then when the hero is in the right place, either use a 'Action Key' or 'Touched by hero' Trigger condition, depending on how you want it to work, and then continue with the rest of the event

First make 2 switches: 1st statement and 2nd statement
Now in the first event page, use 1st statement as the conditional switch.
Then, after the guy's finished speaking, turn the switch off.
Then, when the hero's touched a certain tile, (eg: the platform tile where the
player receives his prize) it will set off another switch, s[2nd statement].
Then when that switch's on, the guy will carry on with his speech.

*remember to have a third page with no commands and conditionals at all. Only the charset. Cos' if you put the first switch off, the charset will disappear. You don't want your guy to disappear do you?

First you make a page with whatever you want it to do before it stops, and then you make a new page and name it whatever, then make sure under Event Conditions it's marked on the first switch box as whatever you named it, and then you go back to the first page and put "Change Switch to (insert switch name)", And then last you make a third page with only the charaset? Because the last time I did this, it didn't change Switches. Also, how do oyu turn a switch off?

EDIT: I've got the switch working, but I still don't know how to turn it off.

Now I have a new problem. XD I want a map feature, kinda like in Pokémon games, but not to zoom in. I also want a map just to look at, i.e. an event that lets you view a picture, which is the map. I have the map, but it says it's too big. This is a pretty stupid question, but... How do you make a 2058x1512 map small enough for RM2K but still readable? XD I have a backup plan, but I'd like this to work.

Never mind, I fixed my problem. I just had to set the event to AutoStart, not Parallel Process.

Auto start is when the event itself is the only thing that is processed. So you can't move and any other event doesn't work.
Parrallel Process is when the event is processed along with other events. So you can move around and so can other events as well.

Yeah, I had my CMS events set to Parallel Process so I was moving every time hit an arrow. Fixed now :)

I think i know the problem, you know where the testplay botton is next to it is the fullscreen botton, and next to that is the titlescreen botton click on it then your title screen will show .hope that helps. :D

Okay, I've got another problem...

I can't for the life of me make a picture rotate in the opposite direction. I tried inputing a negative number, but it's snapping back to positive. If there is no way, know of any alternatives?

Well you cannot rotate picture backwards in rm2k or rm2k3 but it can be done in rmxp... The only other way of doing it in rm2k or rm2k3 is making seperate pictures.

Not really. And now I did press that "Show Title" button, but now the screen is white and the title song still doesn't play.

Well you cannot rotate picture backwards in rm2k or rm2k3 but it can be done in rmxp... The only other way of doing it in rm2k or rm2k3 is making seperate pictures. That's what I was afraid of :(

IVE GOT A PROBLEM

When I make a long animation (100-200 frames) And I use it in battle , The damage taken shos before the animation ends.

and when the damage kills the enemy the animation stops before it ends ..

It used to work before , PLEASE HELP ME

Dark Doom- use wait till animation ends (tick the box in the show battle animation window)- or use the wait command.

make a couple switches example "floor 1, floor 2, floor 3"
then make a choise .
if choisen floor 1, set switch "floor 1" on, switch 2 & 3 off
if choisen floor 2, set switch "floor 2" on, switch 1 & 3 off
if choisen floor 3, set switch "floor 3" on, switch 1 & 2 off

----now for teleporting----
make a fork/branch condition
if switch "floor 1" = on > teleport to floor 1
if switch "floor 2" = on > teleport to floor 2
if switch "floor 3" = on > teleport to floor 3
---------------------------------------------------------
----variables-----(easier for high buildings)
make 1 variable, "elevator"
then a choise.
if choisen floor 1, variable "elevator" set 1
if choisen floor 2, variable "elevator" set 2
if choisen floor 3, variable "elevator" set 3

----teleporting----
