Well, they have a lot of reasons.
One is that the anime is the one that dirtied the name of Pokemon (thus everyone thinks that Pokemon is kiddy whilst Pokemon Special is actually for some slightly mature audiences)
Second, the people who disliked the anime couldn't believe how people could be so amazed at an anime with a plot that's going in circles while the manga has a way better plot than it.
Thirdly, they compare anime characters with manga characters. (Like what you just did). This is quite "blasphemous" for them...XD The manga characters are very unique and none of them don't have the same goal as Ash does. (Well, they used to but not to the extent of bragging it off to everyone)

There's a lot of things that people in this club don't like about the anime. Especially some things that they think that the anime has props for but what was actually manga-inspired. =D

Edit: I also forgot to tell you that once you take the manga's path, you don't just go into "a whole new adventure" of capturing Pokemon, training them, and battling gym leaders. You're also making quite sure that you're entering another world where reality eclipses fantasy and that it is sure that death is always in the corner. Sometimes, the heroes win...but then there're times when the villains win.

The Anime? Yes. Bury it.

For Special making into an anime...I say this would remain a rumor, and possibly a hope, since the Pokemon Anime is one whole franchise, and they're unlikely to make the same thing that uses the same concept, only a different storyline. However, I happen to find a website that recruits voice actors for the characters in the manga...Yellow's voice is pretty cute. X3

Now,where did you hear that?Well,if it is true,than it would be awesome!I agree that the anime is a little childish too,but I don't hate it.So,an anime with more mature things would be the best.

I'd be surprised if it did turn into an anime, pokemon has been around for almost 10 years and is pretty much gone stale in most parts of the world, hardly anyone reads the manga, and besides, it would be a miracle to see a pokemon anime with an actual plot XD

I don't know about stale. I play the card game, and it's still pretty popular. WB recently forced CTN to stop running pokemon because it's ratings were so high. Mangas are selling pretty well. Who knows, maybe they're trying to revive Pokemon Special by making it wider known through an anime first. Seems like an easy way for them to expand the franchise to me. All we know right now, though, is that Ash won't be in the new series.

Here's a little "essay" I made for the manga in the forum for my school's Otaku Club.

I am asking you to read it. It rocks. Just read it, and you'll see the drastic difference. Just think like this: The manga is like any manga, but the TV show is like teletubbies. That's the difference.

I'll give it a shot. I'm trying not to base judgement on the anime
That is what everybody is doing.

Don't. At least not for Pokemon. As I said, the TV utterly defaced the nature of Pokemon and brought it from what would have been a great game franchise down to ashes.

What's worse is that they made it appear everywhere so that everybody could see it. In contrast the manga is 500 times better than the TV, but sales were limited to Asia, because it didn't sell well in the US. Why? THE TV SHOW!!! It has everything to be blamed to it.

In fact, here are the locations for a few snippets for the manga "Pocket Monsters Special", known as "Pokemon Adventures" in the US. Viz stopped publishing it a few years ago, ending it at the 7th book. Book 19 released just a few weeks ago. The character's names are based on game versions: Red (looks like Ash), Green (looks like Gary), Blue, Yellow, and so forth, and the manga follows the game perspective with major twists (but not like the repetitive sidequests in the TV show) that add spice to the storyline.

The major difference is that this manga features action in every chapter, and minimal of that morality and friendship stuff you see as childhood propaganda in American televisions.

Oh yeah, as a side note, the manga features a character that never appeared in the TV series. The character's name is Yellow.

Cute guy, eh? Here's the catch. It's a girl. That theme has followed the book for a short series as Yellow looks for Red, who has gone missing shortly after being invited to a battle. Yellow was instructed to disguise herself as a boy to prevent being detected by the enemy.

That manga has been discontinued by Viz, so chances are you won't find them. Just look at the scans I provided.

A few more remarks on the manga. It also contains the story in other characters' perspectives. And as you see, one of them has Lt. Surge battling his way through the power plant, and for many reasons. In the anime, Ash leads the way and stupidity follows.

Another good point about that manga is that the characters use novel ingenuities in battle. One of the pictures feature Gold (the Kenta-looking guy) using multiple pokemon to fly. Usually one plan in battle is featured every chapter.

So...see the difference?

The girl with the red bandana, whose anime counterpart is May, is Sapphire. Sapphire's pretty wild for a girl, and messy. She doesn't like wearing clothes, but that outfit was an exception, given to her by Ruby. She prefers battles over contests.
The boy with the headband and white hair, whose anime counterpart is Brendan, is Ruby. Ruby would sound girly, because he is very neat, can sew and loves to makeup his Pokemon for contests. He prefers contests over battles.
These two are at the left and right of the picture.
In the middle you'll see two boys and a girl. The girl with the white hat is Blue, special to the manga until a similar looking character came out in the Gameboy Advance Fire Red and Leaf Green games. She's shrewd and sassy, and was once a cheat and a thief (she stole her squirtle).
The boy with black hair, whose anime counterpart is Ash, is Red. Red is pretty smart and treats his Pokemon as his friends.
And the boy with orange hair and black outfit, whose anime counterpart is Gary, is Green. He's the rival of Red, but unlike his anime counterpart, he doesn't really show off. He also seldom talks unless it's needed because he seems deep in thought usually in the manga (I think). He trains his Pokemon rather hard compared to Red.
Note that Green for the boy and Blue for the girl are names used in Japan. There's a switch in the US.
There's also two more characters not in the picture: Yellow and Wally (Suspected to the be the next Emerald). Only Yellow does not own a Pokedex.
Yellow's a cute girl who has special psychic and healing powers. She hates hurting Pokemon and thus hates to fight Pokemon. This causes her to be lousy at capturing them with Pokeballs.

I think it's the storyline. The book doesn't only cater to children with cute Pokemon. There's also some other characters I didn't mention, like Silver, Crystal and Gold. There's this brotherly-sisterly feeling between Silver and Blue, and Red and Yellow liking each other...or some others say Green and Yellow instead. Also, certain Gym Leaders and even the Elite 4 have been portrayed as evil, such as Sabrina and Lt Surge, and Pryce. There are also some unexpected twists in the book. Ruby has characteristics that girls normally have, somewhat a taboo in certain parts of the world. Some characters even go missing for some parts of the books.

Actually, Pokespecial switching artists is a good transition. The reason was that when you used to read Pokemon Special, you were a kid and you admired the chibi art. So when you see Red back then, he really looks like a kid. But then when Yamamoto-san replaced MATO, it made the characters look older. So you actually see Red age. If you compare the latest Red drawing with the first Red drawing,there's a lot of difference between the two.

Yeah, I like R/S/E the most because Ruby, Sapphire, Wallace, and Steven RAWK, and there's no Yellow.

Although all of the PokeSupe fans here will prolly kill me for saying this...I really don't like Yellow. She's such a Canon Sue. Heck, she was even put up as a Canon Sue on the LJ canon_sues community. Oh well, at least she's the least Sue-ish of the Canon Sues I've seen so far from other series. I mean, judging by some scans I've seen she has her silly/stupid moments...right?

...But even so, I want to get all the PokeSupe mangas, even the Yellow-centric ones. I'm hoping my local Chinese bookstore has some of the Chinese translations, since my parents would *NEVER* let me order off the internet. Worst comes to worst, I'm going to Kinokuniya or Asahiya and getting the Japanese ones. My Japanese is very limited, so I'd prefer the Chinese trans (English even better, but since Viz discontinued distribution, I'll prolly never get my hands on one).

Poliwrath, 'Poli'
Poli is Red's strongest member of his team. He has been with Red since his days of a Poliwag. He evolved into Poliwhirl when Red, as a child, fell into a lake. Poli, not strong enough to bring Red back up evolved into Poliwhirl. Saving him. In his battle with Lt. Surge. Red sends out Poli to battle Surge's Electabuzz [Note that at that time Surge was still working for Team Rocket]. Red gets thrown into the sea along with Poli and Poli does the same thing he did when he was a Poliwag. He saved Red, as a Poliwrath. [Poli was supposedly to have hitten a Waterstone on the seabed]. Poli, now a Poliwrath defeated Electabuzz, and Poli has always served Red well. In the 9th Indigo league, Red uses Poli, Pika, and Saur, his original 3 Pokémon to finish off Green. [Red also did use Lax, but he didn't do much battling].

Venusaur 'Saur'
Red's first actual member of his lineup, Saur showed a good Relationship with Red since his first days of a trainer. Red had set all the Pokémon free while in Oak's lab and Saur was the last one to be caught. Saur didn't like Oak very much but Red developed a good bonding with him. Saur itself is a very good fighter, being able to defeat a Gyrados without much trouble. He had become Red's title Pokémon at times, and was the sole enemy of Green's Charizard, or Charmeleon when they first developed their rivalry. Saur is the 'Cutter' of Red's team. He evolved into an Ivysaur in volume 2 after a battle with a Mankey, after which they met Blue, who had a Wartortle. He finally evolved into a Venusaur against the battle with the Legendary Birds, when he, Green's Charizard, and Blue's Blastoise used their strongest attacks to defeat them. In the 9th Indigo League, Saur helped Red win in an epic battle between Saur and Green's Charizard.

Pikachu 'Pika'
Red's 3rd member of his party, Pika played a big role against the Elite 4. Pika started off as a trouble maker, just like in the anime and was 'Wanted' in Pewter City. It was Red and Saur who helped rid Pewter City with this trouble maker. Pika helped Red earn his first badge when he really knew what friendship was. Pika knows Substitue, which helps a lot, especially in Red's battle with Erika. Pika, along with Poli and Saur helped Red win the 9th Indigo League and was the only Pokémon to have escaped from Red in his battle with Bruno. Pika also helped Red win his 8th Gym Battle, against Giovanni. Pika thundershocked a Rattata, later named Ratty, who became Yellow's First Pokémon. Starting from Volume 4. Pika became Yellow's, who claimed that she knew who Red was in Oak's Lab. Pika helped Yellow out a lot and did many things, along with finishing off Lance with his 'Thunder' Attack. Pika then returned to Red, and was rumored to be the father of Gold's Pichu with Yellow's Chuchu. Pika's slot in Red's team was substituted with Eevee when Pika was under Yellow's command.

...no comment. After not seeing the manga forever, I almost lost all interest to it.

I joined the DirectManga forums, which supports direct downloads of over 60 manga titles, and took the job to scanslate the 110 chapters I have in my basement. It'd be a painful job, I know, and I'm depending on the scan hunters to find full chapter scans all over the net. I hate scanning stuff myself, y'know.

So if any of you have the manga and know how to scan stuff, get it in to me so I can finish it hopefully before I graduate college, get married, and become CEO of some company.
