I'm making a hack that follows the path of silver during G/S/C. I hope you don't view it as plaijerism. Awesome game! I seriously just looked at every pokemon. Its great.

Time for possibly the best news update you guys have had in a while.


We've recently recruited Baskinein as our scripter. This guy is a GENIUS, and very hardworking. Extremely talented with what he does - he's already set up the basic data for Pokémon, including IVs, EVs, base EXP, growth rates, evolution, base stats... wow, he's just good XD

He's building a fully functional Pokémon system and has already made good headway. He's our first actual scripter to officially join the SilverGlance Inc. Team, as all previous scripters who've contributed to the project have been collaborators.

Our old systems were deemed far too buggy, and Baskinein has taken it upon himself to build the core of the game from scratch, certainly no mean feat!

His current task is the features of the Pokémon menu.

For the purposes of testing the systems, he gave Fly to his Bulbasaur XD And yes we know Venusaur is spelt wrong there. We're simply showing off the functionality of the menu.

The addition of Baskinein to our team has prompted an immediate response from the ever-excellent SilverGlance Inc. team. I will make special reference to Pyro's exceptional work on the menu system graphics (including Pokédex, bag and Pokégear pages), Whitey's enthusiastic work on buildings for the overworld, KangasKid's superb sprites and BlasterBoy's cool Pokédex entries, and Chizzy and Jake made an excellent start to the Pokémon icons. Baskinein's also keeping me on my toes with requests for the objects he needs to make the systems as well as the information. There seems to be a new level of organisation and efficiency in the team, and progress is better than ever.



So, what do I personally have to show?

A couple of maps.

A true labour of love, this may be my best map to date. This is Overlake City.

Hours have been spent on the gfx and map itself. Creating the rock formations was a nightmare, but it came good in the end. Whitey can take responsibility for the SUM Headquarters building, the houses are Mateo's as are the dam and Water Purification Plant that you can see partly to the north, and the platforms are mine.

The city is now actually a city built OVER a lake. Before, this place appeared to be a bunch of islands in the middle of a watery crater. There was no lake, and the city was barely above the water :P

That is now rectified in this monster of a map.




And finally completed is Mezereon City.

A long time ago I stated my intention to revamp Mezereon City and turn it from a bustling, bright and lively city into a grungy, gloomy, polluted city.

The final product is this. All of the buildings are now in place, and the revamped game corner is created almost from scratch by Mateo.

The Aspen Co building has undergone a minor alteration to give it some FRLG graphical traits.

Obviously, the brighter buildings are the ones that the council actually spend money on to generate income for the city, such as the mall and the game corner. The main houses and the city are crummy, and that factory kicks out fumes like there's no tomorrow, to such an extent that a thin haze is observed as you walk around the city

glad to see you guys have got a scripter now, it looks like Acanthite is back on track and will soon be one of the best, if not THE best Pokemon fan game to be produce ever... i cant wait to see more of Baskinein, by the look of things you do have a scripting genius on your hands, finally. lol good luck mate.

OK.

We're getting somewhere here ;) We're moving faster than we've moved in a while.

Now, we've got people doing good jobs all over the field which is great to see, but there's some things that need considering.

We NEED stats for all of the new Pokémon, and for this job we want somebody with a firm understanding of the mechanics of Pokémon:

- Rounded and feasible base stats that correspond to the style of the Pokémon in question.
- Growth rate of the Pokémon
- Egg group
- Steps taken to hatch eggs
- Evolution level/method
- (In some cases only, this is usually not that applicable) Percentage of a held item being attached to Wild Pokémon.
- Moves learned at what levels, which TMs can be learned, and possible breeding moves.
- Ability/abilities of the Pokémon
- Base EXP given from defeating the Pokémon
- Which EVs this Pokémon gives when defeated

As can be seen, this is a demanding task that will require a great deal of thought and time.
Remember that our current starters are being scrapped, so do not bother doing these just now.



We need a better compilation of TMs. Our number is going to be 92, like in DP, but will be a new set. Some old TMs will be the same, sure, but an update is needed. Some consideration must be taken, not all TM moves should be godly. If need be, contact me for information on new moves but you will find them kicking around the appropriate section of our forum :)



We have a few of the Pokémon menu sprites courtesy of Maneachicken and Jake, but we DO need all of them, and they need to have 2 frames of animation. Each of these frames must be saved into separate files of equal dimensions, and saved with a suffix of (***)-1 and (***)-2. The (***) represents the number of the Pokémon.

Also, if somebody would be able to rip all of the existing Pokémon menu sprites with both of their frames and save them in exactly the same way, this would be extremely helpful.




It may seem like a lot of stuff to do, but the reason we're succeeding so far is due to team effort. There's just a bit too much for our current active team members to handle alongside their other tasks, and I'm just plain lazy. XD Ok that's not entirely true, but this kinda thing would run extremely efficiently if we were to recruit others onto these tasks.



In other news, we're expecting an update from Baskinein on the scripting front very soon :) Watch this space

We've had no possible HM ideas, actually. We want to bring Whirlpool back, but at the expense of what? As there are only 8 badges, thus 8 HMs and we wanna incorporate Dive and Waterfall.

Those are 5 main HMs. Of course, your probably have more needed. Only an idea =P

well if you did it that way, you'd be handicapping the game mechanics. what's the point in having to perform a HM task and it doesn't hold any relevance to how far you are in the game.

anywho, good luck with all that. wish i knew anything about making games so i could help =/

well you could do it and not handicap the game mechanics, put the place you get the HM in a place you cant get to until after you beat the last gym or some thing like that.

Good idea, but I don't like games with new Pokémon, sorry. Still, graphics and sprites look totally good. Also, it's cool that you play with Silver/Kamon.

As promised, some more scripting has been done. Witness the summary pages in action as the Pokémon are now fully functional, theoretically!

Implementation of the basic Pokémon menu and summary pages is deemed by Baskinein to be 95% complete!

If we can achieve that status, then I'm very happy. I'm willing to bet we can give it a good go with the team we have right now ;)

Once again, Baskinein's due another update fairly soon, as he is making good progress with the Bag system. This guy is pretty darn speedy!!

Our new starters are soon to be revealed, but I can tell you their names:

They pwn the old starters ridiculously.

Difficult to make these things exceedingly exciting, but it came out nicely enough. Decent rock formations. I have added more variation on the rocks since this shot, but tbh that's so negligible that you may as well just feast your eyes on this shot and save me the trouble of fixing it :P

Oh man, your Johto maps blow mine out of the water. I played the demo, and I can't wait for the final thing.

If you want I could sprite a few things for you. I see that you're using the backsprite of Gold for the backsprite of Silver/Kamon. I have backsprites for Silver/Kamon that you can use if you'd like.

Time for a treat. This is ancient, but still unknown... until now. Prepare to see why I was hired, and the best sidequest in Acanthite.

This can be done after getting access to the Cyber World.

Randomly, you'll get a phone call from "X", which will use the following message:

X:
Ugh... Am I out? There is a presence here... No... It's a phone. Who's there? Kamon? Are you a trainer? Yes? I'm... I'm losing connection... The man in the Pokemon Center of Elderwood... The password... is... Longhand... He- *disconnects*

After you get the call, you won't get it again. Go to the scientist in the Elderwood Pokemon Center, and talk to him. He gives you a Strange Key, which opens a a door in a house on Mt. Miasma. In that room, you'll see a white pod, an antique computer, and a prototype entry to the Cyber World. The entry takes you to a room behind a Cyber Latch in the normal Cyber World. From this side you can open it, so do that. Then, go into the hole in the data you find in this room. It'll take you to a weird area with numerous glitches, lots of Virus-types, and walls of green data flooring. Decend deep into the bowels of the dungeon, and eventually you'll reach a Cyber Latch. Open it, and you'll enter a round, orange inclosure of data with a blue human-shape figure made of data in the center. An exclamation point will apear over its head, then it will enter your Pokegear. You'll get a message onscreen, as if it had talked to you.

X:
I mean no harm. I must explain myself... 30 years ago, I was a trainer, the same age as you. I went into the Cyber World... keep in mind that it was a prototype. I was exploring when the system crashed, and my mind was severed from my body. Having nothing to form around, when the system was repaired I found myself like this. The cleanup programs... they dropped me in this area, for fragmented data. I tried to escape, and I did... They found me again, and deposited me in this vault, where I couldn't leave. Please, take me out of here.

Leave the vault, and the door will close, then be deleted. Leave the area (named Cyber Wastes), and reenter the house through the teleporter. X will leave your Pokegear, and enter the pod. Then, he'll come out of it, in his body...

X (in body): They froze my body... Ah! Hello. I'm Daniel... thanks. Have this.

Daniel will then give you an Eerie Patch.

Ah well. In other news, I'll be revealing the lovely Larix Cave whenever I can and Baskinein's more or less finishing off the battle system... We will have the first fully functional Pokémon battle in RMXP, if I'm not mistaken, including items, the Pokémon menu and so on.

If it were possible, I would really appreciate it. I've not worked with animations in RMXP so much, so it confuses me a little.

It's about the same part as the 2nd gym.


Now, you may be aware I was unhappy with the starters (seeing as I'd designed them originally, I ought not be proud of the fact!). They were ok as Pokémon, but lacked traits of starters, so we've gone back to the drawing board. Our actual designers have produced something truly befitting of the Starter status.

They're Kangaskid and Jacob work I do believe. Our usual trick is that Kanga does the initial sketches, Jacob does a cleaner drawing and just refines the design a bit, then Kanga makes the sprite. It's a winning combination!

Very happy with the overall response to the starters - there's been no standout favourite :D

Today, I'm here on business. Having to consider all the elements of gameplay, there are a few areas with no cover.

We are in need of someone to rip or locate the sound effects used on the Pokémon menu and battle systems, as we do not currently have access to them. They are very important for the development of the game. If anyone knows what they're doing with these sounds, it would be greatly appreciated.


Now, slightly less vital at this stage but no less important in the long run, we will be in need of animations for new attacks from this game, and new attacks from D/P. Is there any way anyone could help out in this department?

there is a person at serebii forums that does crazy attack animations, and by crazy, i mean incredibly good. he/she fulfills requests, so if you're any good at convincing, you might just have someone to get them done.

Wow! I would never find that error out. But other than that, the map is quite good. Oh ya, I disagree with you Don Patch. Whitey's houses are really cool. :cool:

This game needs some promotion around here, it's just simply briliant.
I loved that map...specialy the lighthouse, so cool! And the way you built the island and placed the tiles around...:)...greaaat!
And I don't see any problem with the houses...they're just...diferent! but I like the new desing!

As part of the Pokémon design phase which is currently undergoing crucial acceleration, we are producing interesting material featuring better images of the new Pokémon rather than the old sketches. Thanks to the team for putting this together!

We're working on COMPLETING the Pokédex now. Cipher, Plateface, PhantomGannon and Shadowshocker's work is all going into the complete Pokédex. Cipher is putting a webpage together with the information, Plateface and PhantomGannon are doing the artwork, and ShadowShocker is the genius behind the Pokédex entries and some of the new names we're getting. Expect to see more of this in the future.

For the first time, I can also reveal the names of the evolved forms of the starters.

The caves dotted around lead to underground passages. These were in fact created by Pokémon thousands of years ago when this was their habitat. Now it is the epicentre of a clan war, and Team Rocket are set to intrude... Bambotta is also home to an ancient legend.

And the graphics are also great!!! I think this game has waht's needed to become the best pk game not-made by NINTENDO (it is also much better than some NINTENDO's games). The only I don't like about this great idea you had is the fakes... But anyway, you deserve my respect... wish you the best of lucks, can't wait for it to be finished!!!

I think that the storyline is ACE, *Thumbs Up*, and I'm actually beginning to create my own game because of the insiration of this game, :P sounds cheesy buh its true. I think creating a new 150 pokemon for the game was good, some people like that, others don't, this is why I think you should include some of the more loved old pokemon from past games just to give everyone a piece of somthing they like. that was just an idea not an actual demand lol. Im luving the game no matter what. Its actually quite easy to create a better than nintendo Pokemon Fan Game, all you need is the tools and then knowledge of games to make it better because the people who buy the games are actually the ones who know what we can do to make it better.

ill be opening a thread of my own soon, i just want to get a bit more details about my game before i put it up. Also I was wondering if I could use a handful of the pokemon you have created, (mostly because I think some of them fit into the theme of the new pokemon Im creating, Ive got alot of pokemon Ive made up but I rilli do love some of these pokemon so much that they would fit into my game perfectly.

You would obviously have a massive thank you in the credits and throughout the games creation. If it's a yes would you be able to send me the names of the people who created the pokemon Im asking for if I send you a list of the ones I would like to use.

This is by far, the most amazing fan-made game I have seen. It not only has the traditional '2BA Master" plotline, but it has diverse qualities that need to be applauded.

The Pokémon designs are also - possibly the greatest things I have ever seen.

I must make it absolutely clear – it is sometimes a little ambiguous as to who the credited designer ought to be as it may have gone through several design phases, taken inspiration from previous drafts by different people and so on. In most cases I have credited the designer who probably had the most say in the final accepted design. The art was not always done by the credited designer. I have done some of the coloured images, as did Cascade Gonpory, and Nelson has done some of the more recent ones. Many sketches were done by Jacob Coutino who has MANY times refined a design and improved it, so his pieces are generally the smoother looking ones, and many by Acanthite veteran KangasKid. Some art is by Feli, and NeoRyder, etc, etc. Anything credited to RegisteelDS, was drawn by him. This amazingly talented bunch of people has produced this list of Pokémon and in many cases, it is impossible to single out a single designer.

The pokemon look really good,like the official nintendo ones(although I was too lazy to take a look at each of them,but the ones I saw were awesome)

By the way,the download link to your game is dead and this game really looks like a promising one so please can you fix this minor issue.

Anyway good luck and keep working on it,it will definitely be a success.

As we're working on getting a new, better demo out as soon as possible, it is a waste of resources to resurrect the dead demo. (I'm also not sure where it is anymore...)

I have a nice update to inform people of from Baskinein - the battle system has reached demo standard. He has implemented all Pokémon mechanics - base stats, EVs, IVs, evolving, moves learned, growth rates, and simple attack functions - damage, accuracy, PP, status effects, and stat raising and lowering. The guy is a genius :)

So we're another step closer to achieving that new demo!

I am also pleased to announce that I'll have the new attacks list up here shortly :)

This has probably been the most successful 24 hours in Acanthite's history. I would like to offer thanks to everyone who's stuck with us!

Our battle system is functionally like the 3rd gen one, incorporating elements of the Diamond and Pearl games (for example, the differentiation of Physical and Special attacks, as you can see).

A good couple of days work from the Acanthite team, I must say!

Well, thank you. Thank you all for sticking with the project while it's been going.

But don't just praise me. While I've definitely done my bit and I hope I've done it very well, praise the people who've made this game work - the whole team. Without them, this wouldn't have survived. Without them, this project wouldn't have as much quality as it does. And yes, I'm allowed to be bigheaded about their work because it's what they've done, not me, and I think it's all bloomin' fantastic! :P It's not just the fields that I personally excel in that have come good, it's the entire spectrum of fields that our talented staff, past and present, have been able to cover.

Keep on supporting. Demo two promises to be literally amazing.

You will probably already have heard this a million times, but this game looks awesome. The Pokémon itself are fabulous. Some of the designs are even better then the original Pokemon, and all of them are very unique.
The story itself is great too, not -only- the usual "get the 8 badges and head for the league and in the mean time deal with the bad guys", but a story that is deeper. I like the idea.

And congratulations on one year working on Pokemon Acantithe. =D

Making a hack is easier? You have engine constraints when developing a hack, not to mention limitations on how much free space is in the involved ROM file. Also, you can't really add in anything truly custom into a hack unless you know a fair amount of ASM.

Case in point: this project is more easily completed in RPG Maker XP than in
