Part 4 – The Story
==========================
The Pokémon Acanthite story is intended to set the scene for the Gold and Silver era of games. The story of this prequel takes place some months before the events of Gold and Silver and it endeavours to explain the nature of the rival character from those games (who shall be referred to as Kamon). Pokémon Acanthite will attempt to explain Kamon’s seemingly evil and uncaring attitude observed in the GSC series by revealing the series of events that made him the way he is. How? You, the player, are given the opportunity to choose.
Set in the fictional Merto region, the story of Pokémon Acanthite is split down multiple paths, determined by the choices you make as you progress. The inherent choices are between what is right and what is wrong, but the definition of each end of the spectrum is never wholly clear.
Almost three years had passed since the fall of the once mighty Team Rocket at the hands of an emerging young Pokémon Trainer. The Rocket organisation, once devoted to crime and corruption, vanished without trace. The region of Kanto was at last free from the pollution of their evil and Team Rocket had become little more than a memory.
However, even without the guiding hand of former boss Giovanni, there were whispers among former Rocket members about a revival. In secret, they began to reform under the leadership of Giovanni’s ruthless General, Argus. Feared and respected greatly among his peers, he assumed the mantle of Team Rocket Boss as they planned their comeback. Under his iron will, they were prepared to take the steps they needed to in order to regain the power they once held.
---
In the town of Newbloom Bay, located by the east coast of the Merto region, Kamon was preparing himself for an important expedition. The renowned Professor Willow, a close associate of Kamon’s father, had invited him to accompany her to Sunrise Isle. Willow’s friend and study partner Professor Elm claimed to have discovered Pokémon indigenous solely to the island, and she was keen to investigate. She and Kamon were due to sail on board her boat, the vessel Serendipity, to the island in the east.
After gathering his equipment, Kamon went downstairs to find his sister Kiren in the kitchen with her favorite Pokémon, Sympholy. Their father had already set off earlier that day for a conference in Mezereon City. He had close ties to Aspen Corporation and S.U.M., the Science Union of Merto, and funded a great many of their research and development projects. "Don't be late," Kiren said, "or the Professor may set off without you!"
The Professor was already aboard Serendipity and was waiting for Kamon. As soon as he arrived, they set off for Sunrise Isle. When they landed, they headed to a research facility where they met Prof. Elm. Elm gave them instructions and very soon Kamon and Prof. Willow were in the forest, hunting for the New Fern Pokémon, Frondilo. Willow presented Kamon with a Poké Ball for the first time, explaining that he had to throw it at a Wild Pokémon in order to catch it. Once Frondilo was in their grasp, they proceeded to seek out Kindlejou, the Live Flame Pokémon, and Reptide, the Estuary Pokémon.
With the three rare Pokémon in tow, Kamon and Willow sailed back to Newbloom Bay and Kamon headed home. As he approached the front door, however, a nasty surprise lay in wait.
Two men dressed in black uniforms with a red “R” on the front emerged from the door, followed by a tall, cold figure, swathed in a black travelling cape. His mane of steel grey hair hung around his cold eyes as he surveyed the shocked figure of Kamon. The man demanded Kamon's name.
"I see... My name? I am Argus." He paused. "I came by hoping that I might find your father here. It has taken us an unfortunately long time to trace him here, and typically he is absent. We have need of his services once again."
Kamon was well aware of his father's old job. Recognising the red "R" on Argus' badge and his henchmen's uniforms, memories of his father's membership of the criminal organisation Team Rocket came flooding back. How could they not? Those years had caused his family so much agony before his father left the Team when they disbanded and Kamon's family fled the Kanto region to start a new life, a better life. Kamon's father had once been integral to Team Rocket's plans, but he had since vowed to live an honest life, funding beneficial research and partaking in S.U.M. related projects. How could it be that Argus had found them three years later?
"You don't know where he is? A pity. I had hoped you would be far more helpful. Moreso than your dear sister anyway," he added with a sinister grin. "She was rather uncooperative. I am sure she now regrets her decision to stand up to us."
Kamon's fists clenched. "You're thinking of taking me on too, boy?" Argus snarled in a chilling rasp of a voice. "How do you propose to do this without your own Pokémon? You could never hope to challenge me. Stand down before you regret it."
Argus pushed Kamon aside and marched out of Newbloom Bay with his Rocket thugs, calling back to the angry boy he left in his wake, "I should hope our paths never cross again."
As soon as Team Rocket were out of sight, Kamon hurried inside to find his sister weeping in the corner. "Sympholy..." she gasped between heavy sobs. "They... They took her. They hurt her." The realisation then hit the two of them. "Dad."
Kamon hurried to get his PokéGear from upstairs. He brought it down so that Kiren could call their father who was completely unaware of the danger that would be headed his way. "Dad," Kiren blurted out as soon as he answered. "You need to run. Team Rocket... They were here. Looking for you."
Their father understood. When he fled Team Rocket, he had taken the vital papers on their latest and biggest project, Project GEMININE. The outcome of this project would have resulted in Team Rocket having an unimaginable and terrifying amount of power, and only he had the research on how to advance. It was vital that he kept these plans away from his former comrades. He at once decided to hide out in the mountains of Merto, leaving his children with a warning to stay safe and to let Professor Willow watch over them.
Kiren, however, had different ideas. They set off at once to Professor Willow's house, seeking protection. "Dad told us to come to you for help," she told the sympathetic Professor as she recounted their tale of Team Rocket's attack. Willow at once took them to Serendipity and allowed them to choose one of the Pokémon that Kamon had helped her catch. "These will be your partners and will allow you to defend yourself should Team Rocket come looking for you." Kamon and Kiren chose their Pokémon and made to head home.
Outside, Kiren stopped her brother. "We can't just stand by and let them hunt our Dad. They may be here forever looking for him. What if he can't come home? Kamon, we have to help him." Leaving Newbloom Bay with a Pokémon in tow, they set out to destroy Team Rocket once and protect their father. However, what dark paths might this journey lead them down? What trials and impossible decisions may they have to face in order to reach their goals? You decide.

Part 5 – New Pokémon
==========================
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x191/FangkingOmega/494.pnghttp://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x191/FangkingOmega/497.pnghttp://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x191/FangkingOmega/500.png
So! After a re-evaluation of our Pokédex kickstarted by Nelson, we have finally come up with what should be the COMPLETE list of new Pokémon that are going to appear in Pokémon Acanthite. There will be 157 new Pokémon in Pokémon Acanthite.
The redesign process, initially led by Nelson before his (temporary) departure, has been taken over by the remarkable duo of Acanthite veteran KangasKid and highly talented artist Purple Kecleon. The vast majority of new work is courtesy of these two. Nelson's contributions and suggestions have also been paramount in making what is, in my honest and thoroughly biased opinion, the strongest fanmade Pokédex on the internet.
Enjoy the new designs and we'll keep updating this thread with new design improvements and art.
New art is being contributed, and to a high standard, by Hallm3 and ComfyCushion.
Due to massive consumption of bandwidth, I have removed direct links to images on the Acanthite site. The Pokédex is found at http://pokemonacanthite.com/pokemon.php
We are still in the middle of an extensive redesign process and some of the older designs may yet be revised but no Pokémon should be replaced now.
It's very difficult to assign credits sometimes as several people may have worked on design elements for any specific Pokémon. I have put credits beside each Pokémon based on who I think had the most influence on the Pokémon's appearance but other people may have been involved in drawing the Pokémon in other ways.
C = Concore
CG = Cascade Gonpory
CS = Count Splatula
F = Fangking Omega
JC = Jacob Coutino
K = KangasKid
N = Nelson
NR = NeoRyder
PK = Purple Kecleon
R = Rosakai
RDS = RegisteelDS
S = ShiShiKo
Most coloured artwork except for Serpyrent (by Fangking Omega based on a pose by KangasKid) is by Nelson. Non-coloured sketches are generally, but not exclusively, attributable to Purple Kecleon and KangasKid. Purple Kecleon is to be thanked for giving up her time to draw up final sketches and also refining the designs.
Each piece of art will be replaced by official, final art when it is complete.
I have tagged the new Pokémon who are not in the previous list of Acanthite Pokémon - in some cases these are Pokémon that have "returned" from a previous stage of the design process but as they have been only now reintroduced, they can be considered "new".
I have also tagged updated Pokémon that have changed significantly from their previous incarnations.
With credit and thanks to Maneachicken for inspiring Matomic and Nuclound
Special thanks to Shadowshocker for some of the names
Thank you to eversosubtle and NintendoJR for help and suggestions
And to all the staff who have contributed and assisted in the design process for Pokémon Acanthite.
==========================
Part 6 – Merto
==========================
We wanted as much authenticity to the Pokémon series as was possible. Now, the first thing to do here is base the region on an actual Japanese region.
Based loosely on the Tohoku region of Japan, the new Merto came to life. If one studies the north-east part of the main island of Japan, that's what it is. You'll see a little peninsula on there at the top, and that was adapted into an island. The two main parts of Merto are Amoro (north) and Hokoh (south).
Tohoku was suitable for many reasons. It's quite mountainous and harsh in terrain, as is Merto, and also very scenic. Also, there are three sacred mountains which were adapted into the elemental triangle surrounding Tyridan Isle. Overlake City becomes a reference to the large lakes in Tohoku. And being a Pokémon game, we had some creative license over what else to do :)
There's a couple more towns and locations just to enrich the experience and spread the sections of the game out so it doesn't seem rushed. All in all, it should be a very interesting region to explore.
The map itself - thanks to Houndoomed for the basis and the graphics I used to put this together.

As you can see, new tiles for the bigger "forest" trees, inspired somewhat by Viridian Forest. These tiles were made bigger to get the overlap like DP style trees. It's a much cooler use of space.

I know they do! And most of them have only been on the project for a few days! XD
Currently there's a good lot of work going on. I'm pleased to welcome venomwind to the staff, who is doing a good job on writing up what the random trainers in the region say before and after a battle, as well as Crazy Weavile is developing some cool sidequests.
As always, KangasKid's sprites continue to be excellent, and there should be a new batch coming up. I'm also very happy to have received some sweet new trainer sprites from [ray.z] and Maneachicken, including 2 hippies, a tough school kid, and an evil captain of a ship.
Plateface's ideas continue to be useful, including an awesome redesign of Squink who I've never been hugely keen on.

Pokémaniac's been busy sorting out attacks and a TM list, which is coming together nicely.
I'm personally about to tackle the new Hazelfrost City with the new snow tiles. YAY!

There IS a banner but it's pretty big (the one in my sig - LOL RHYME) so perhaps I should make a smaller one, so that you can fit it in your sig? I notice you already have a few banners.

Yes, this is being made in RMXP.
Batista, you made no sense to me.
What's new in the world of Acanthite?
A new, and much better weather system has been made. It's much easier to set up teleports now, and it relies on a timer rather than an ongoing event. It's integrated with ccoa's weather effects script, so I was able to customise the rain effect somewhat. RMXP's default rain is disappointingly out of place in a Pokémon game - so I ripped the graphic from Emerald. I then made a system out of common events that would randomly trigger a weather effect, and also be able to hide it if you went indoors - although if it rains, you can still hear the sound effects, just a bit quieter.
Not only does it rain, but you can also now get a full storm, an overcast effect, and a bright sunlight effect (bright sunlight only occurs during the main day phase, never during morning, evening or night). However, if you travel to the snowcapped region, it will not rain or storm - it sometimes snows or even a full scale blizzard may occur with howling wind to complete the effect.
Time for a few shots
I won't bother taking shots of the storm or blizzard as you can scarcely tell the difference between rain or normal snow in a screenshot - it's the speed, direction and sounds that give it away (and the lightning in the case of the storm). Also, cloud isn't that interesting :P it's just the slight darkening of the screen without an additional effect.

KTHX LOL
What else? Ah yeah....
Not only is there fame for all the battles you win, but there is reputation, or alignment so to speak, based on the things you do. There's a new feature added to this game. Rather than you following the story, the story follows YOU.
You're given choices throughout the game that dictate whether you are good or evil, whether you assist Team Rocket, either for their or your own gain, or work against them.
You effectively do good or evil missions, and your reputation points change as according. It ranges from -100 to 100; the lower it is, the more evil you are; the higher, the more good. Somewhere in the middle is simply neutral.
The people you meet in game might react differently to you depending on how well known you are and how good or evil you are - you are either respected or feared (or if a person is evil, such as a Rocket, you are respected if you yourself are evil or otherwise treated with contempt).
It's an indicator of which Legendary you will obtain first - the counteracting Legendary will disappear until you have completed the main game.
By the time you face the champion, your reputation score will dictate which of the 7 endings you will see. Oooooh ;)
Thanks to everyone on the team as always, some brilliant ideas and sprites are coming through, and some more cool music from Ivar. Brilliant stuff :D

Silk 2 was a game that Neo-Dragon(i think) was making. oh and pokerep is good but i'm not going to add it to my game since it is being used a lot now a days. and thats a lot of sprites your spriters are going to have to make. but there all so cool!

Yeh there is a lot of sprites.
Kangaskhan Kid O(AKA Spriting God) is remaking all of the pokemon, as well as spriting all of the new ones from scratch. You can see for yourself at the forums.
And bringing up the rear is myself and Maneachicken making the Trainer sprites.
And then we have veryone else doing stuff as music, tiles new ideas and so on.
But now that I actually think about, it is massive.

Fangking Omega
August 16th, 2006, 09:59 PM
CoL is the reason I started. CoL is simply the best fangame there was. I even first started my fangame making 3 years ago on Booda's forum before I came to the Games Development here or on any other forum. Booda is my inspiration, which is why I aim so high :P
Simply put, my goal is to produce a gaming experience that rivals CoL if not bettering it.
NEW SCREENS 17th AUGUST
Today is the 1 year anniversary of Pokémon Acanthite (Revised). On this date in 2005 the project file was first created.
This is the PokéGear clock. The icon being displayed is the wrong one and is the default for the day without a weather effect going on.
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/2825/clockow4.png
Geary goodness with the icon corrected for the Night phase.
http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/8422/clocknightsf0.png
Geary goodness with all the cards added. The new one at the end is a PokéRep.

New underwater effect, courtesy of the ever helpful ccoa!
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/951/divebg1.png
As ever, just a dummy tester. The underwater sprite for the character will change.
A battle system has for some time been in the works. I'm told that the completed version is extremely close to release, and I am pretty psyched for it. Here is a shot or 3 of the demo of the system I was sent several months ago. There were some errors, such as CharmEnder, and the fact the names aren't totally capitalised, but these will be eradicated by the release of the full version, and I shall be using a different cast of characters of course ;)
This is merely to show you the outline.

Yeah, it was said to see his site abandoned I followed his project a few years ago all the way back to his harvest moon game lol.
Anyway, are you implementing a male/female breeding feature? I noticed in the screens that there was no gender icon. It would be good if you could attempt to breed any male and female Pokémon with most producing an egg as an item which can be sold or something and certain Pokémon creating baby eggs which hatch after time..

i was wondering the same thing. you definitely blew my mind looking at the pokegear settings, but i'm still quite wondering how you will implement the breeding system, seeing how you have your own fakemon as well as the originals. now that i think of it, that's going to take a lot off effort and time to configure the breeding system for all the pokemon. i'm sure that's nothing you're not concerned about now (and might be the last addition to your game), but i just want to know if you have any specific plans for a breeding system.

RMXP I'm very familiar with. And when it comes to RGSS, if you know it (or have someone around who DOES know it) it becomes possible to do anything you need. All my resources, maps, events, scripts etc are in RMXP format and I'm too lazy to convert everything over to a program that I have no idea about.
In other news, considering a potential Leafly replacement (I like Leafly but this is better). Designed by the magnificent ShiShiKo, whose art and design is absolutely amazing. She may as well be the real Ken Sugimori and I wouldn't know the difference!

:S More buildings the better - more people to talk to and places to explore plus he said it's a commercial town so you can only expect many buildings or are toy talking about the houses? The map looks fine anyway.
What's the 'Revised' thread all about?
Fangking Omega
August 23rd, 2006, 04:30 AM
Credit to the Pokémon Garden now given underneath :)
It does work better actually IN game. The full map can look a bit cluttered. But yes, it's meant to be huge.
The "revised" thread was started about a year ago. I took a LOOOONG time between updating, so I decided it'd be best to start a fresh thread, as the "Revised" thread was packed with idiotic n00bs and idiotic questions. An idiotic n00b decided it would be fun to ask an idiotic question, so that's why it's ended up on the front page again. It will be locked soon I hope.
And yeah, there already is a touch of smog around the city when in game :P

i'm thinking you should change the color of the pokemon garden building. it's just a little too white, and out of tune with all the other buildings in that town. a light grey or beige would be nice. everything else is awesome. the bird looks a little too much like moltres, but awesome nevertheless.

The actual thought I've invested in this city is that the people who run it have poured a ton of money into the main attractions - the Mall is new and very glossy, the Aspen office building is nice in comparison with everywhere else, and the City Hall is obviously sublime. Even the game corner would have been made attractive because it generates wealth for the city. But the rest of the city is pretty run down and polluted - the Pokéball factory being the main offender.
Chizzy

I Think that sounds fair enough Fangking.
ccoa
August 31st, 2006, 09:37 AM
I've actually seen this in practice. Downtown Vancouver, BC is spotless. The buildings are white and blue with glittering windows, the sidewalks and parks are free of litter, and the docks and "beach" are kept free of drifting garbage, all by a small army of city employees. Why? The huge tourist income of this area. But if you take a public bus off the beaten path, you'll find buildings stained by polution, empty lots full of garbage and abandoned shopping carts, cigarette butts in the gutters, and everything else you'd expect of the largest city in Canada.
Samson
August 31st, 2006, 11:01 PM
yah, it's pretty much like that in most large cities. i guess i didn't consider that logic. it would probably be neat if in the city, you talk to someone and they point out why some of the buildings look so fresh.

Wow!!! This is amazing! I'm farmilliar with hacking and RMXP, and this is by far some of the best work I've seen, The sprites are amazing, 5 shades of colour on some!!! And creating night and day, wow! (I attemped at trying to do that, and gave up after 1/2 an hour!), The attention to detail on the mapping/landscapes is just phonominal! (I'm probably going to sound like a total n00b) But did you get the codes from a rom and (you can do this) translated hex to ruby (RMXP basis of language) (I know you can do it from hex to C++) and used the codes there, or did you do the codes from scratch? (because if you did, that's AMAZING!!! Also If there are any free positions, I would very much like to help! (Do I PM you, it's my first time here) I would be very grateful if I could!)
But well done!!! It's going to be a fantastic game (Just by looking at the screen shots!

Here's Greatvine League Stadium
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/9049/arenayf1.png
It'll look better when the crowd's on it and you're in there facing the Elite 4.
It was decided some time ago that the league would follow a tournament-like pattern with 3 rounds of knockout matches. The winner gets to take on the Elite 4 and reigning champion.
Rather than a bunch of rooms, this is a true Pokémon league venue, and leads to some real drama with one of seven possible endings taking place in front of a huge crowd.

It's not an alternate Torchic evo, it's a Combusken wearing ninja-based items of clothing. It was also drawn by my old faking buddy Kairyu so I have no idea why you're giving me permission to use it.

RMXP is correct.
Here it is people!
It's an encrypted RMXP file. You can't edit the thing.
Be warned, if your PC is old and has low hardware, you may experience a lot of lag. This game is best played on newer PCs
INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PLAYING!!!
You must install the FONTS. When you extract and install the files package, there's a folder entitled "FONTS" in there.
If you know how to install fonts, skip this bit.
Go to Control Panel and open Fonts. Either drag and drop the files from Acanthite's FONTS folder into there, or use the file menu's Install New Font feature and locate the place where the fonts are. You're primarily interested in the Pokemon RS font and the Digital Dream font.
If you DON'T install the fonts, you won't see any text.
The game is far from perfect. This demo is an introduction to Pokémon Acanthite for prospective players. At this moment in time, there are only Wild Battles, and Trainer battles function exactly like Wild Battles (Meaning you can catch their Pokémon and run from battle). Switching in battle is disabled, and levelling up does not work (don't worry, this shouldn't be an issue for this demo). There are minor graphical imperfections. There MAY be some unknown and unforseen errors, and they're more likely to occur while battling. If you're having major troubles, you're able to escape from any battle.
Please don't complain that music doesn't change for battles XD
The game does include an introduction to the storyline, your starter Pokémon of choice, a preview of things such as the Pokégear and battle system, a fair chunk of the first part of the game to explore (three towns, three routes, and a big forest), there's a couple of items, mostly for healing though, and working berry plants that function like GSC's. There is weather and time including morning, day, evening and night.
Hopefully you'll enjoy this snapshot of what Acanthite is about!
AND HERE'S THE LINK
EDIT:
This is a release with a few corrections and slightly less glitches! Please download this one.

Anybody who's getting this message needs to install the trial version of RMXP. It's free, and even when the trial expires after 30 days you can play RMXP games still.
Be warned, slow internet users, it's about 30mb

Hope you liked it Kyledove ol' buddy! Sorry about the bugs, some people seem to get 'em... the lag is a case of you do or you don't... I'm lucky and I don't, I'll try find a way to reduce it.
If you want my utter honesty, I've always wanted to replace the standard FRLG graphics with some sexy custom ones like yours, which are frankly beautiful and the best I've seen (ya know, custom grass, trees, rocks, paths...). But I would hope to not have to replace all of the FRLG style buildings (as in ones drawn with FRLG style proportions and shading) as a result. So I guess the criteria would be that they still look good with the buildings being used in Acanthite, which probably wouldn't be an issue anyway. Would you be up for something like that?
Kyledove
November 7th, 2006, 05:58 PM
wow thats a pretty big request but I respect your honesty ^^; I dont think Id literally be able to do that seeing how I cant even make my own custom world for myself it would take me even longer to create a completely new custom world for acanthite and I wouldnt want to have you guys waiting on me.
I was thinking more like pokemon wise or something. *shrug*

XD that's alright, I figured I'd ask seeing as the ones you have in your sig make me drool. You're incredibly good. All I'm really looking for in that respect is custom grass, trees and rocks, and the paths too probably everything else would remain the same. But I CAN see why that's a bit too difficult. Thanks anyway buddy!
So yeah... erm... you're good at overworld sprites aren't you? How'd you like helping out in that area? Or maybe one or two custom buildings? I'd be very happy if you wanted to do anything at all for Acanthite, so anything you'd like to do and would be happy doing, do it ;)

Still doing stuff here :)
Doing more of the main game's progression. I'm gonna have to worry about patching up that annoying battle system later.
Anyways, here's what's happening in Kamon's life today.
Steer clear of spoilers if you don't like them. This is a taster of an intriguing plot point.
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1221/offerqk0.png
And in other news!
A new staff member, jacob_coutino has provided an AWESOME final design of Anjewl and Diavil, two of the game's leading legendaries. (Specifically, Anjewl is pretty much the same as before but in a different pose, Diavil has had no prior fully satisfactory designs but this one is awesome)
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l168/jacob_coutino/fakemonsketch7.jpg
His work is of an outstanding quality and it's great to have him aboard.
Also, we're thinking of adding another 7 Pokémon to the total number of species in the world to make the final number be a lovely round 650 (obviously not all of them will be in Acanthite, because that's a silly number, but for reference it's a comfortable number). More on this later.

After going through the demo, I only found a few awkward things... In the second town, if you go on the bridge and go up, you can go into the water. O_o xD Even so, you still can't get the item you need cut for... Aw, darn it! Sometimes, if I didn't faint the Pokemon, the battle would end... No EXP for me. I played the demo. Storyline is awesome, I love it. You just need to improve the battle system. Its very laggy and has some glitches.
Oh, and there is no Pokemon option in the menu, even when you get a pokemon.

SSV1 : It'd be a massive help if you could learn how to script. In fact, if anyone could.
Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted on things as Fang is really busy at the moment.

well i will tell ya, i will never learn how to script cos i feel it is too hard for me. it only shows 1 example script and it aint enough. i could probably do all the music stuff, and all that.

To get me back in the mapping spirit which has been a little bit stifled lately, I've been working on the Johto remake which will be making an appearance during the Acanthite game series. It's good to explore my mapping skills, and I've been finding that I've adopted a looser style that more closely resembles the technique used in FRLG. I've kept the structures more or less the same, but there is a looser, more naturalistic application of space and it isn't quite as rigid as in the original GBC games.
I had some old reference pictures to work with from a previous remake attempt, but for the mostpart I've improved since then.

More of this, and Merto, to come :)
One of our main issues at the moment is the lack of a skilled and experienced coder to help us develop the systems. We're doing very well with everything else, but without the crucial systems it's becoming very difficult to actually make progress with creating the game itself. It's alright making maps and having all these ideas and graphics waiting to be implemented, but we seriously need help in the coding department. We've got a brilliant team working dilligently away - some of the ideas that are surfacing are fantastic! We promise to deliver a perfect Pokémon experience for players - now we just need someone's help in the scripting realms. That is all.
Till next time, thanks :)

the maps look flawless. i just never liked how gsc was so chalk full of trees in its whole region. it looks somewhat tacky in fr/lg, if you know what i mean.

I found Johto to be a fresh, natural and mountainous region. The volume of trees probably corresponds to that, so I don't see it as an issue. It leaves me having to be very careful with use of space however, so that it doesn't look too clumped together, but that's not such a problem as it heightens my own awareness when mapping :)

well i get that, it's just that the trees in FR/LG have so much detail to them that when so many of them are thrown together, it gets overwhelming and heavy on the eyes.

It probably isn't that much different looking at full map shots of Kanto from FRLG to be honest. But I suppose it's fair comment, I can't help that though, it's a remake :P
I think actually playing and walking around the area is the best cure, as you don't have to look at huge clumps of trees as you're limited to a small screen :)

Good to see some update from one of the best games around ^^
I like the remade maps, although I always hated Ecruteak City design... so square, house, square, house...
And if you don't mind me saying, the roof of the building right above the PokeCenter looks weird. I guess it's because I'm used to roofs on pokémon having more visible stripes or something similar, which is not the case (I can see small lines, or am I blind?). Anyway, everything is perfect, and my opinions are just stuff that pop into my head, and I write.

Ecruteak is somewhat square and formulaic, I agree, but not really my fault XD. It works better to walk around these places anyway, I find myself enjoying it :P
The building you refer to does actually have a very intricately patterned roof, the lines are just a bit curved to blend with the contours of the building itself. The centre of the roof has a much more noticeable pattern to it. It's the Dance Hall where the Kimono Girls are.
Cheers for your viewpoints anyway ^_^

Hmm, there good, but your missing some grass patches in Route 36. Either than that, their pretty good.
I cant wait to see more Merto designs. I've yet to see any route screenshots from Merto =P

Depends what you look at. If you're looking at Crystal, you're right. If you're looking at Gold/Silver, I'm right. Not a huge issue really, FRLG obliterated some patches of grass from the originals of RBY. I think in Crystal, that patch of grass was badly placed because it was inconsistent with the rest of the route in terms of what wild Pokémon would appear due to that part of Route 36 next to Violet being open long before the rest of it is (darn that Sudowoodu!).
