Reel Big Fish is a pretty cool band. You don't even have to really like ska to like them, which is good because I don't really like ska otherwise.

There's a local ska band around where I live. They're pretty good, actually!

If you like ska, download LimeWire and get the song "Too Much Too Young" by The Specials.
Terry Hall is the man!

I'm not really into ska that much...I think the combination of brass instruments and guitars/drums is kind of annoying.

If it's like punk, I'm all for it. Is it like Yellowcard with instrumentals?

No it's not, because Yellowcard is only slightly good at what they do. Uhn...asking what ska is...it's kind of hard to compare it to other genres.
Basically it tends to be very upbeat with off-the-wall rhythm in it's lyrics and brass instruments always play a part, lots of times with loud fanfare type blasts. The best ska music I've heard is from the band Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution. Reel Big Fish is pretty good, but some of their stuff is really boring.
But like other genres, don't just listen to one ska song and judge it, listen to a variety from different artists (ska doesn't seem to have too many, though).
But uhm, no, it's not too much like punk.

I heard it. It was in a Disney Skate game, or something like that. It's alright.
But a little too soft sounding for me.

I've heard of it but never actually listened to it before. I'm not judging it, but it sounds like something that I would not like.

Actually, that statement is kinda wrong there. Ska is a variaton of reggae, not punk. You are thinking of 3rd wave. The name is derrivative of the "skat" noise that the guitar makes. And also, saxophones have been included in a lot of ska. ( A sax is not brass.)
Anyway, I am surprised no one here has mentioned the Planet Smashers. Shame on you! (Nevermind. Saw a post above.) Some other good bands are Long Shot Hero (Underground Ska band. You won't find much on them.), Five Iron Frenzy, The Hippos, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Goldfinger, and the Pietasters. [spunge] also does a little ska. And I too like Reel Big Fish.

I listen to Streetlight Manifesto from time to time. I listen to a lot of Sublime, but I really wouldn't call them a 'Ska' band. Some of their songs would be considered ska though.
