Disclaimer: Honestly, do I need to say it? I don't own Pokemon like the hundreds of other people who write Pokemon fanfiction.

Chapter 1

The noon sun shone brightly over the little town of Pallet in the south western sector of the Kanto Region. Light leaked through the trees of the forests that surrounded Pallet, illuminating the dirt path that parted patches of lush green grass.

Ash Ketchum was seated on a low branch in one of the trees, his legs dangling on either side of the bark. He comfortably leaned against the body of the tree with his eyes closed and Pikachu asleep on his mess of black hair. His hands gripped the red cap he had worn through his adventures in the Hoenn region and Battle Frontier, his attire the same.

A flock of tiny brown bird Pokemon, Pidgey chirped as they fluttered past. Pikachu’s black tipped ears twitched as it awoke and leapt into Ash’s lap. Ash stroked the fur on Pikachu’s back, which was decorated with two brown stripes, down to its lightning bolt tail.

They were taking a break after their Battle Frontier challenge. Ash reflected on his first adventure with Pikachu, here on Route 1. It was here Ash found that first wild Pidgey, but Pikachu was too stubborn to fight. Ash wouldn’t blame anyone for not believing Pikachu had despised him back then. Now, they were the best of friends and inseparable.

---

A boy who seemed to be about Ash’s age was walking up the long, curving staircase up to Professor Oak’s Pokemon Lab. Many Pokemon roamed in the fields encased in fencing behind it.

The boy had spiky purple hair and a matching jacket over a white T-shirt and blue jeans. He was a bit short and he had a serious expression on his face. He looked sort of angry.

He pressed the button that rung the bell once he reached the door and it almost immediately opened. The person on the other side was a middle aged woman whose brown hair was tied into a single ponytail. It was Delia, Ash’s mom.

“I’m sorry, Professor Oak is busy at the moment,” she said.

“That’s okay,” the boy said, his expression replaced by a fake sense of happiness. “I’m looking for a boy named Ash Ketchum and I heard he lives in this town.”

“He’s my son,” Delia replied. “I think he went out to Route 1 for some rest.”

“Thank you, ma’am,” the boy said. He bowed before turning to leave.

“Bye and good luck finding him,” Delia smiled as she closed the door behind him.

---

Ash had dozed off on the branch in Route 1. A loud crow stirred him from his sleep and he opened his eyes to see a large bird with magnificent red and yellow hair streaming behind it descend in front of him. He smiled upon recognizing it.

“Pidgeot, is that you?” he asked to the Pokemon nodding. “It’s good to see you again!” Ash hugged the bird Pokemon as Pikachu gave it a friendly hello in its own language.

“You must be Ash Ketchum,” a cold voice addressed him from below.

Startled, Ash looked down to see the purple-haired boy who had been looking for him in Pallet Town. His cold stare sent a chill down Ash’s spine.

“Yes, that’s me,” Ash answered and leapt off of the branch. Pikachu landed on his head and Pidgeot made a graceful landing next to him.

“My name is Otarus,” the boy said. “I came to issue a challenge to you.” He detached a red-and-white Pokeball from his belt and pressed the white button on it, enlarging it to its normal size.

“If it’s a battle you want, it’s a battle you’ve got,” Ash replied happily and replaced his cap on his head. He looked up to Pidgeot. “Are you up for a match, Pidgeot?” The large brown bird nodded and soared through the air in between Ash and Otarus.

“Come out, my faithful partner,” Otarus said and threw the Pokeball. It opened and released a tall, almost golden Pokemon that stood on two legs and held a pair of spoons in its hands. Its face had features of a fox along with a long mustache matching its body color.

Marveling at the challenge an Alakazam would bring, Ash opened up the battle with a Quick Attack. Pidgeot flapped its wings once forcefully enough to send it toward Alakazam at a speed that made it look like a brown blur to Ash. A gust of wind was left in its path that played with Ash’s hair and lifted his red cap clear off his head. It fell onto the dirt path behind him, although he didn’t notice it.

Alakazam thrust its arms forward, clenching its utensils which started to glow a purple shade. A shield of purple light formed about the psychic-type Pokemon. Its flying-type opponent slammed into it, halting the attack. Pidgeot fell to the ground, dizzy from the collision.

Alakazam didn’t pause. It raised its right arm and swung it down. A scythe-like beam of energy cut through the air and made contact with Pidgeot. The bird Pokemon was sent flying back, shrieking in pain.

“Pidgeot, watch out!” Ash called with a concerned expression on his face. “Alakazam’s coming with another attack!”

As Alakazam’s palm lit up in sparks of lightning, it dashed toward the injured bird Pokemon. Pidgeot, gasping in harsh breaths, quickly flapped its wings, the Gust attack it produced was enough to help it into the air again, barely dodging the Thunderpunch attack and blowing Alakazam back in the process. It continued the Gust attack until Alakazam was on its back and then descended. A shower of feathers rained over Pidgeot.

“What’s that attack?” Ash wondered as he pulled out his Pokedex, a handheld computer with information on all known Pokemon.

“Feather Rest, a high level flying-type move that slowly recovers the user’s health,” the Pokedex answered in its digital voice.

A white glow formed around Pidgeot. Alakazam’s fist became electrocuted again and it charged for Pidgeot. However, the flying-type Pokemon lively flapped its wings and took flight once again, successfully evading the attack.

“Yes! We’re back in this match!” Ash cheered, jumping and punching a fist into the air.

“Not for long,” Otarus smiled slyly. “Alakazam, use Future Sight.”

Alakazam folded its arms and closed its eyes. But Ash was determined not to let it initiate its move. Pidgeot immediately soared toward Alakazam with another Quick Attack. Alakazam opened its eyes and observed Pidgeot’s movements but was hit dead on by the attack and sent flying back.

The psychic-type Pokemon continued to focus its glare on Pidgeot. The bird Pokemon, not knowing what Alakazam was doing made eye contact with it and immediately felt dizzy. It landed on its talons and started stumbling around. After a while, Ash watched in wonder as Pidgeot trashed here and there, slamming itself into trees and smacking its face with its sturdy wings.

“Pidgeot, what are you doing?” he cried in horror.

“Your Pokemon can’t control itself,” Otarus simply answered. “It’s trapped under Alakazam’s Confusion attack. And now, while our opponent’s helpless, prepare for attack with Calm Mind.”

Alakazam struck another cross-armed pose like before. A peculiar glow formed around it while Pidgeot continued its confused actions. As the tired bird Pokemon slowly regained its focus, Alakazam was holding its hand before it. A sphere of purple light began to form and the psychic-type Pokemon launched it. Pidgeot took flight over the Psychic attack only to be hit by a second in midair and sent hurling back into a tree and falling to the ground.

Ash called for Pidgeot to use another Feather Rest but Otarus wasn’t about to let that happen again. Alakazam charged a Thunderpunch and successfully collided with its flying-type opponent. Electricity surged through the bird’s body and its vision began to blur from the pain.

Deciding there wasn’t any time to regain any energy, Pidgeot struggling to flap its throbbing wings and fly in rapid circles. Dirt, grass, and stones were kicked up into a wide twister that formed around and trapped Alakazam. Debris hit the enclosed Pokemon from all angles but it was able to leap back out of the attack.

While Pidgeot was still in the air, it lunged back toward Alakazam with yet another Quick Attack. This one, however, was shaky and slower. But Alakazam was able to read it. It was the attack Alakazam had sensed from its Future Sight. Pidgeot’s body glowed in a purple light as it halted and screamed in pain. It fell to the ground in a heap. Its eyes were closed and it failed to make any movement.

Ash rushed to Pidgeot’s side, bending into a kneeling position. He heaved Pidgeot’s head onto his legs and stroked its neck.

“Pidgeot, are you okay?” he asked frantically.

“Pika, Pika!” Pikachu was rubbing its back next to Ash with concern in its voice.

“Good job, Alakazam, return,” Otarus sighed. He withdrew the psychic-type’s Pokeball and opened it. Alakazam was absorbed in a beam of red light. He turned his back to the defeated Ash to leave. “This is only the beginning, Ash. I was only testing you just now. But you disappoint me.”

Ash looked up to respond but Otarus had already disappeared within the shadows of the trees. He didn’t know what to think. What was Otarus talking about? He looked down at the semi-conscious Pidgeot resting at his knees and knew he couldn’t face whoever these people were the way he was now. With the help of Pikachu, he managed to lift Pidgeot onto his back and made for his home in Pallet Town.

his attire the same

Why not describe his attire for us. You know his shirt, pants, shoes. It ain't very hard to do.

to see a large bird with magnificent red and yellow hair

Now I envision a random bird with red and yellow hair. Observe as I flesh out the description.

he looked up to see a large bird pokemon with a shade of brown on it's backside and at the top of it's large wings. It's front was covered by a tannesh color along with the other half of it's wings. Streaming yellow hair in the middle with a color of red on it's sides was also reconizeable. It was a Pidgeot.

Your battle scenes aren't too bad really, you just need to touch up on description in some places.
