Okay, so now that I'm back, I decided to resume working on my game, Pokemon: Ryoko Legacy. This is a game being made with RPG Maker 2003

Basically what makes RL differet from other Pokemon games is this. You don't fight with pokemon. The trainers actually fight each other, like a normal RPG. Now of course there are still pokemon in the game. But they are the equivilant of animals in the real world. They will attack travellers (which means you will fight some) and some are even pets. There will also be some Pokemon that willbe used as "summons" in battle.

The story I have so far is this:
Well, the story begins with the main character (you name him at the start) on a cruise ship headed to the new region, Ryoko. After meeting some of the others on the ship, which include Brock, Ash, Misty and others, there is an announcement from the captain saying that the ship is under attack. Being the hero he is, your character goes out to find out what's up. On his way he meets Max, a fighter. They team up and head to the captain's cabin. Once they get there, they are confronted by your rival, but this time he's joined up with Team Rocket. The hero and Max fight them off and rescue the captain. Soon they arrive in Ryoko. As they leave the ship, they are challenged to a fight by Ash and Misty. Once victorious, Ash will explain what he knows about Team Rocket's plans and will head off to find out more. Misty joins the party and her, the hero and Max head to the pokemon center where they find out about the new Gyms.

What I need:
So basically what I'm looking for is:

1) Anyone who would like to be a GYM Leader for the Ryoko Region. I need the following info - Character Name (Must fit with other Pkmn character names), Badge you want to represent (make sure its not taken) and a trainer sprite.

NOTE: The following Badges are left: Diamond & Palm. There are 3 Elite Four Slots remaining.

Characters:
Name: (You Name Him/Her)
Description: A kid on his way to the Ryoko continent to visit his/her aunt (Proffesor Fern). He/her soon learns of Team Rockets plans and heads off to stop them.

Name: Max
Description: An adventurer on his way to Ryoko to have an adventure. His wish comes true when he meets the Hero and sets off to help save the world.

Name: Ash
Description: Aware that Team Rocket is once again active, Ash is on his way to Ryoko to learn of their plans and stop them. He meets up with our Hero on the cruise ship and they soon team up.

Name: Misty
Description: Ash's girlfriend (yes, in my game she's Ash's girlfriend). She decides to help Max and our Hero while Ash collects information on Team Rocket.

Well that's about all the info I can give right now. Any feedback is helpful and I'll try to get some progress done soon.

The trees in Route 201...
What happened to them?

The maps need improvement. Make the houses closer to each other, and try to put some more details in it.

The trees look weird cause the screen I took wasn't showing the events. I used rm2k3 to map and I had to make the tops of the trees events.

Then go log onto your other computer and get them? Jeez, you can tell it's 2007.

Ok I havn't commented on this game yet so, everything seems to be on par and that is a BIG suprise.
The mapping feels normal and your story is rather original, the only thing I can suggest is what I suggest to every game, get some custom graphics. It will make your game more original and more eye-candy..full.. don't know the word. ( Really need to macro that sentance, I use it so much xD.)

But yeah, keep it up.

Thanks! Glad to know I'm headed in the right direction. As for custom graphics, I'm edit myself some custom trainer sprites, I just need someone who can sprite and help design some custom pokemon.

BURN! Seriously, I use paint. I never really got into Photoshop or anything like that. Basics work fine for me.

The link to the game's site is now on the website in my sig. We have got a lot done so you might want to check it out. We also have 3 Gym Leader slots and 3 Elite Four slots open for people's characters. Apply on the site.

Also I think this thread meets the requirements now, can a mod please move it to Game Showcase?

If you are posting screenshot updates or a demo update and your thread has been dead for a while then I'll permit a thread permit a thread bump. Alternatively, you could've deleted your last post, which served no real purpose to the thread anyway, and posted a new post.
But your post was only two days after your last one, which hardly makes the thread dead, and your "update" was extremely minor and would've been fine if you just editted your previous post.

You can link to your website, by all means, but direct forum linking is prohibited.

If have any more queries or complaints, please PM them to me as I don't want to continue going offtopic in your game thread and run the risk of you being in the situation where you are the last poster in your own thread.

Man those tree events...
Why don't you use a tile for that?

Doesn't lag on my computer. As long as the events don't do anything, they shouldn't affect the game's speed, unless of course the computer you're playing it on is crap.

Yeah, but you could use tiles instead. It'd be much quicker and easier for you that way as well.

New Hope Town needs some sort of pathway on it, it looks kinda bare at the moment.

Man, you freaked me out. I saw you had replied to my post and thought I did something wrong again.

Anyway, the problem is the main part of the trees are layer 2 objects. The only way I can put the tree tops on and have it look right is to use events. (Don't forget, rm2k3 only has 2 layers and an event layer where rmxp has 3)

I don't only reply when I'm enforcing rules, I do give critique too.

But you can just have the bottom four tiles on the first layer, and the two tree top tiles on the second layer, that's what most people do. And that's how most chipsets are made too.

On RMXP's Pokemon tileset, the bottom four tiles aren't transparent, so you can do what Dawson said. If it's no like that on Rm2k3's one, you should edit. Won't be so hard.

Even on RM2k3 chipsets, it's easy to do without having to edit. Unless you've made your own chipset from scratch. Take a look:

Notice how you have the trees overlapping on the first layer of the chipset, and then having the tree tops on the second layer. That's how I thought pretty much all RM2K3 chipsets were.

@Dawson: Not all of them are like that, but I'll probably do that from here on out.

Update: Here is another map from Roarscream. This is the next town, Calina Town.

Its going to have fog to give it a creepy feel as well as a darker screen tint than the other towns.

The map is decent, it just looks a bit bland. I think you kind of overused the path tile, and those buildings look kinda dull. Maybe you could try and vary the positioning of the houses too.

Well when you're actually playing the game, this town is covered by a thick fog. This changes the feeling of the map entirely.

The bottom-right building has a problem... it's top exit leads... to the trees.

You should fix that =~

@sandslash: can't you post anything other than "4th generation pokémon"? I mean, 12 of your 14 posts are the same: "will there be 4th generation pokémon?"... that really doesn't make a game good, you know...

Update:
Well, its finally here. The first demo of RL.
To play the demo you will need to do the following.

1) Make sure you meet the system requirements (Posted in its own thread)
2) Click Here (http://darkmatter.draketech.info/demos/RLWalkDemo.rar) to download the demo.
3) If you unzip the demo and it doesn't work for some reason, download Rm23, and then try to play.
4) I think I've fixed everything, but if you get an error, post the error in the Demo & Bug Testing section.

That's really cool. Great job. Loved how the player moved fast. =D

Okay things to improve upon:

1. Camera - When you go around the map, the camera is supposed to be focused so the player is in the middle of the screen at all times. See, in this demo, the camera stayed in one spot when the player went to the side of the wall.

2. Grass - Just having the player's body fade when he stepped into the grass, just subtracts from the gameplay. Have it identical to the original pokemon games, whereas the top of his head would only be seen.

3. Title Screen - Blinds my eyes. No offense. Change it please.

4. Text - Okay, so I see you got a final fantasy thing going on. What I would do with this. Change the font first of all. Then make it a tiny bit bigger. Then, if needed make the text bar itself smaller because there's so little text sometimes, and it's not really ethical if you put a small dialogue on such a big bar.

Overall, I loved it. I know it is extremely difficult to make a pokemon game on RM. You're doing very good. Hoping to see future updates. ^.^

The camera thing is unchangeable, it's hard coded into 2k3. Same goes for the text unless you want it to show like that in EVERY Rpg maker 2k/3 game.
I'm going to play the demo now, see what you've got.

With the camera thing, it can be made so that the hero stays fixed in the centre of the screen. You just have to make the maps bigger, like adding a few extra layers of trees or something.

With the font colour, all he needs to do is change the system set to a Pokemon style one, and there are a few around.

A couple of minor issues with it, the Rival's name is messed up, it displays as "#Rival". And the walking speed, imo, is too fast. It needs to be slowed down by one stage.

The major gripe for me is the mapping. To be completely honest, it's rather uninspiring. There was a lot of walking in long straight lines and there were a load of large blank spaces too. Variation is the key to mapping. There were some nice looking parts to the maps, parts of the forest, for instance, looked very nice, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement.

Anyway, good luck with it all. I hope to see some more updates in regards to systems and story progression in the future.

Actually yeah good point about the camera, it's the Font Grevious was commenting on. Not the colour.
As Dawson said the mapping is..very bland.
Try prettying it up a little, decór never hurt anybody.
You have quite a few tile passability problems for the inside tileset(s), I can walk right through most stuff. For your Mart you used the default layout, change it to give your game more originality.
I'm too tired to talk in full sentances so... Yeah. Keep going with it.
