I want to insert a D/P Latios at a FR title screen but I want it to be as big as the Charizard in the normal FR title screen. How can I do that?

How do i acces and change the tile animatons?

Just use TLP or Tile Molester.

Ruby/Sapphire: Grass Animation- 369400
Water/Flower Animation- 376C00

FR/LG: Grass Animation- 399008

You just have to export and make your Latios image the same size as the Charizard.

1) About how hard is it to insert FR tiles into Ruby?

2) What program would I have to use? (I have Advance Map and unLZ GBA, but I don't like the way unLZ works... I find it very complicated.)

3) Which is better to hack, Ruby or FR?

Hey. I am currently trying to 'tune-up' a fire red rom so I can make it more difficult and make some pokémon better. I want to:
- change some trainers' pokemon;
- change pokemon base stats;
- change pokemon learned moves via level-up and TMs.

Changing trainers is possible with P.E.T., but it glitches out a whole lot and for some reason it registers the rival (gary, green, whatever) having pokemon he doesn't actually have (when I tried to do it, 'TERRY' had a Pidgeot, a Krabby, a Nidoqueen, a Hypno, a Growlithe and a Rhyhorn. Rhyhorn, Growlithe and Pidgeot he usually has, but Hypno?). Note that I haven't touched this rom before, it is clean.

As for changing pokemon base stats, Base Edit says that 'monster names aren't specified in the database' and I have no idea about what does this means.
Finally, patted worked for me when I tried in a clean Ruby rom (and even so it crashed quite a few times, and was missing some moves. Silver Wind, Signal Beam and more) and it worked decently, but with my fire red rom it just shows the pokemon names as glitched up stuff. For some reason, Charmander is &%/("#%&(#%&. I know it is Charmander because the moves work, you can see ember and metal claw and stuff.

Anyway, i was wondering if there is/are any other tools that can substitute those I referred? Base Edit was the only one that was working nicely, without glitches or crashing out randomly, but it doesn't work for some reason. I searched this thread and heard about a tool called 'pokemon amplifier', unfortunately the link was dead and I couldn't find anything on google about it, so if that works for what I want, i'd apreciate it if you could upload it!

Also, one final little thing after this huge post, please be aware that I am completely new to this hacking scene - I know the tools from EliteMap and that's it. If what I want can only be done by HEX, could someone link me to a tutorial or something?

It's not very hard (for me lol) but the Pokecenter as a example is a bit difficult to insert.Well the unZL gba way is the easyiest
(wrong writen right? x_X) way to insert tiles.

Do any body can tell me why Cyclone doesn't work for me please?

I have a question about changing attack effects, I am not trying to change the effect of an attack, instead I want to change the effect. For example, I want there to be an effect that sharply increases a Pokemon's Speed, Accuracy and Evasion. Would I need to hex edit to create that effect? And if so can you help me with hex editing.

It is all done in hex basically, also look around for some tutorials and a tool called Amplifier Ae 2006 might help.

You need to paste the Latios image over the Charizard and then pallete change it ;)

You can't really delete maps, but you can remove them using hex. Also you can just make no links to the certain map.

Hex, search around for some base stats of some Pokemon and then change them. Some Ruby/Sapphire tools can edit the stats.

Are you viewing the level scripts or just people. Level scripts are completely different. To view people scripts in scripted, you need to make sure the name is in the right format. The format is 'Romname.gba:offset in hex'. If the .gba isn't there nothing will appear.

I know how to edit base stats, what I want to do is make an attack that doesn't have an effect that any other attack has, ex: I wanna change Psych Up's EFFECT not Psych Up to something COMPLETELY different, I don't want it to copy stat changes, instead I want it to Sharply Increase Speed, Accuracy and Evasion, your prolly wondering why I want Psych Up to have that effect, simply cause I'm turning Psych Up into a completely different attack, I've fixed the battle animation now I need to fix the effect, and where can I get a free hex editor anyway?

Ok, well in hex just search for the attack number, what effect the attack does, type of attack, how much power the attack does and for the amount of PP, sorry for the misunderstanding back there. Most Hex Editors are free, just have a search on google.

I am trying to view the level scripts. I open Elite Map, and open up Littleroot town, (Bank 0, Map 9) and then click the button up the top for "VIew Level Script" and then, yeah Rubikon comes up with nothing on written?

I got two questions:

You have to script it I believe.

I think that is right.

1. I dont understand this either. I guess just make a new directory and store your new maps there

2. Make sure you have a clean ROM because sometimes that might make it now work (duh)

I tried it on a clean rom days ago and some of the text are still blank. That's what happened after I edit a text.

EDIT: I created a new building in Viridian and I created a warp there using A-Map. The problem is, when I entered the new building the player landed on the table instead of landing on the mat/door. How can I change the player position when it entered the building?

EDIT2: Since I replaced the FR Pidgey with a DP one using unLZ, the whole Viridian map has no events(except the flight position in front of the Pokémon Center). Is it connected to the Pidgey?

With advance map, i am inserting new maps, but they keep going to littleroot town folder in "Header" How do i make a new folder in "Header"?

Question: When i create a new map i can't seem to make a new name for it, instead they only allowed me to use another map's name and i could then change the name to a name a i want. This meant that if i were to use pallet town as a name and change it to another name, both pallet town and my custom map will be the same.
Anyone knows how to deal with such a problem?
(new to hacking as always)

I'm not sure about the A-text problem.

The second problem is that you have to make sure there is a warp on the inside and that they have the right values attached. Usually if you've warped to a room, but pointed to a warp no. that isn't there, It usually warps to the middle of the room.

3rd Problem. I have no idea. That shouldn't have happened.

1. |You can't delete the mart event, it is programmed into the map.

3.|PET, I don't think you can add trainers, but you can change them.

4.|I only know of one, and that is for Ruby. Why would someone want to give you there tileset? A majority of tilesets have new palettes, if you want to add or replace someting in a-mpa, export tileset 2, paste the image on there the import it back. you can either replace an image(like the pokecenter, or add blocks to the tileset add add the tile there.

That basically means that there is a problem with the script. You've left out a pointer. POst the script the script thread and I'm sure someone will help you fix it.

The second problem is that you have to make sure there is a warp on the inside and that they have the right values attached. Usually if you've warped to a room, but pointed to a warp no. that isn't there, It usually warps to the middle of the room.

I set the warp numbers in the right warp number but it keeps on going in the middle.

How can I add a person to a map using A-Map? Do I have to add the "P" event then use script to edit it's event?

EDIT: I can't still warp the player to the right position of the map when going inside the building(keeps on going to the middle). How can I make the position of the player at the door instead at the middle of the room?

Try it now. It should work, and '\p' is not the only next box command.

@Cronos: I'm Guessing you used D-trough's tutorial from youtube, you should ask him.

@light Trainer: You Just increse the number then click change events. But you have to be in the Events Tab, and it should be on the right hand side.

Well, once a battle has happened with a trainer, it won't repeat. So you could use 0x002 in two scripts but once you battle the first one, the second will become disabled.

I quick thought:

Is it possible to create new gyms (with new leaders, badges etc.)? I guess it would be a problem to make them show up in the trainer card. Does anyone ever done something like that? Is it possible?

changing some trainers in PET to gym leaders can be an aswer to that question...
editing their sprites, and a little scripting would solve everything, but I don't think it'll be easy for them to appear in the trainer card...

Alrighty, I have a question.

My mom just recently ran a program that's supposed to "clean out" unneeded and virus infected files. Ever since that, Advance Map doesn't work! I've redownloaded in an attempt to replace what was deleted but it didn't work. Whenever I try to open it it gives me the "Advance Map has encountered a problem and needs to close" message and gives me the option to send an error report and everything. What I need is my A-Map fixed. If anyone knows if I'm missing a file or corrupted something, I would appreciate the help. Thank you.

You use program Lips which comes with EliteMap. You need trwo ROMs, one clean, unmodified and the edited one. So, when you open it, it should ask you what do you want to do. Choose "Create IPS patch". Then, a dialog box will appear. Navigate to clean ROM, choose it and press Enter. Then, navigate to your edited ROM and again, do as before. OR just click the Open button. Then, a box saying that IPS Patch was successfully created, and there you are, clean nice patch, ready for distribution.

I double clicked on Dexter and AVG anti-virus detected a Trojan Horse PSW.Generic4.MNS.
Can someone please upload a working Dexter onto Megaupload or something and send me a PM with the link.
If this wasn't the right section to ask please re-direct me.

I've heard that Dexter has it inside originally, but I'm not sure. HackMew is working on a Pokédex editor, you should wait for it. It would be safer.

Okay, I'm having a real big problem. When I try to over a Pokemon (eg. Treecko), the Pokemon I'm replacing it with goes differently coloured. Why is this happening?

the new image you replace to Treecko uses the palletes which are only available to a certain PKMN.

likewise, different pkmn images have different palletes.., therefore if treecko has no yellow, you cannot have yellow to use for the new image you plan to replace.

my question... what's the flag of the Running shoes in PKMN Ruby ROM..?

btw.., i just remembered. In the hacking tutorials, there it states that in using flags, it is safe to use 200-300 and 800-(i forgot)... but as thethethethe posted, flag # 860 is used! So does that mean it is unsafe to use the flags 800-(as I said, I forgot)..?

Anyways, goto scizz.com to download a hacking tool called NEA that stands for Name Editor Advnce to change the pkmn names. Thanks for thethethethe, now I know.

Changing the types, use an Amplifier. goto wah and download it there. There's a button there to translate the site to english.

dex info.., no idea. Eheheh...

You can change types by using Pokémon Amplifier(but it's Spanish) and you can change pokémon names by using Pokétronic(I think..).

To change Pokemon's names, use PokeTronic.
Types I think Amplifier, or maybe PokeTronic.
Moves should be editted with Amplifier.
The dex information should be changed with dexter.. I think.
And finally, cries can be changed with PokeTronic, but you need their values.

I forgot.., for it has been four months now since I last had that problem. I am currently mapping towns and routes and cities, so I ahven't touched anything in the inside as of now... Sorry if I couldn't help. But ya know, purple isn't half bad... I saw a hack (not in PC) with new buildings and the backround were all purple... the border, I mean...

Are you talking to me? Thanks, but A-Tack won't help me, neither will amplifier. I don't think you're understanding what I'm asking for. I doubt it's that simple. I'm pretty sure that the only way to do this is with a hex-editor, but I'm not sure where to look or what to change.

Oh and you're problem it would help if I could see a screenshot.

Do a trial and error search, by searching for 97 throughout the rom, it shouldn't take too long xD

I've found the text, but there is nothing that looks like it can relate to the animation anywhere near them. They're just surround by other text. I have been searching around those areas but I can't find anything to do with the battle animations, it looks like it's all text.

Yes, the text won't help since the battle animation doesn't have to be near to the related text.
As far as I know, all battle animations are based on some LZ77 compressed images.
Therefore to repoint let's say, "Cut" to "Fly" you would have to search for those images on unLZ and once found the correct pointers to swap them. Unluckily the animations aren't just based on the images, I guess.
So there should be some extra data for the animation somewhere in the ROM that should be repointed as well.
Please remember that what I said is just based on my suppositions and I'm not 100% sure, obviously.
I hope it helps somehow.

I am hacking Gold version. I thought I had managed to change the main character from red to dark blue clothes, but it changed all the other overworld reds as well! I want to change the overworld sprite of the main character from having red clothes to dark blue clothes, without changing all the other overworld reds to dark blue. The hex value of the dark blue I want is 3400. If anyone could tell me how to do this, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

That usually happens if the sprite is larger than normal, or your using too many different colours.

Just recently I inserted my Gym Leader sprite into my hack and the exact colors I put on the GL stayed on there I put like the colors of Tate and Lisa and other people together so when I get the other GL and inserted it the pallete changed I think I must've forgot what I did is there a way to insert sprites without it changing the pallete?

The sprite is actually have a smaller head(I tried to edit male hero OW with no cap so it's head is a little smaller) and I used 16 different colors which is okay to OWE (maybe).

I'm changing Fire Red. And thanks. That bit of info has helped me out. I've found the offset of the aspects of the move, Power, accuracy, etc.
Now I just need to figure what to change. That's helped heaps. All I need to do now is change around the bytes and find which one will change the animation, which shouldn't take too long. Thanks so much.

EDIT: Well, I've been changing bytes for about an hour now, and I've had no luck. Thanks, maybe it's located somewhere different in FR.

In making scripts, the safe flags to use are 200-300 and 800-900, according to the tutorials, but I just knew that the Running Shoes in Ruby uses setflag 0x860...

Is it safe to use the flags around 800-900..?

Was that in foulumps tut? Look in Irish witch's tutorial. It mentions to stay away from 300-400 and 800-900. 800-900 shouldn't be used because a lot of flags are already in use. i.e. Pokedex Flag, Running Shoes, Pokemon Menu, etc.

You should, but if a flag isn't supposed to be used, you'll probably notice wrong once you use it.
That's another reason why backups are important.

I've done a lengthly, time consuming search for a tutorial that teaches the basics of hex editing. I haven't had any luck.

I want to hex edit rather than use tools, because the tools I have found are too easy but at the same time I find it restricting. I want to make a hack of pokemon blue, but most of the tutrials available are for advanced gen games.

I know nothing about hex editing but I'd prefer to be able to do it for its flexibility. I have the correct table for blue, and a hex editor, and they're all ready for usage. I just haven't got the faintest idea what to do with it, I can't make any sense of the code at all - its all another language to me. I hope someone can help, maybe point me in the direction of a good tutorial that teaches the basics of hex editing?

Just use a hex editor which supports table files and load the ROM with it. Then search the name of the "evil team" and replace it accordingly.

In mathematics and computer science, hexadecimal, base-16, or simply hex, is a numeral system with a radix, or base, of 16, usually written using the symbols 0–9 and A–F, or a–f.


0x[something] means that's hexadecimal. Therefore you can use letters.

hi. i have another problem. i have a mp in my hack that has trainers and wild pokemon. somtimes if i battle a wilp poke when i go back to the screen the players gone and i can move the player. somtimes if i battle a trainer i become the trainer. i heard that if one is set to look down then this happens but none are set to that.

Import the bitmap image over the one you want to replace, in OWE.
Then you click 'import palette' along with 'import image'.

While changing.., is the emulator running the ROM..? If so, are you on the map where you have done some changes? If so.., move away from the map and save, then open the ROM again.

I got the same problem few times and I've fixed it easily, after juggling a bit.
All you have to do is to close the emulator, clear any savegames and load the ROM again.
Eventually, if you don't want to clear savegames, just after loading the game enter and exit a house. That should work as well.

Editing the original script is risky since if you don't pay much attention you could overwrite some important data after the Oak's script. It would be better to make a new make, mabye copying some parts from the original one. As you like.

There's a mention of a tool on either the Rom Hacking -> Toolbox forum or the Rom Hacking -> Documents & Tutorials forum. Says something about viewing RSE scrips with some progeam (forget the name). Look there.

Okay, I've found something, and I want to know if it works...

In UNZL.gba, you can insert your own graphics... Also, you can choose your own offset...

So if I would choose an empty offset (that I found with an Hex Editor), and put my custom own made tileset there, it's in the game right?

Now in Advance Map, when Professional Header View is activated, you can enter your own offset for the tileset right?

So, could it be possible to choose the custom tileset, and use it in your game?

And a follow me script is different, a follow me script is controlled by the scripter. A Pikachu following you in free movement is not a follow me script

Is there any hacked fire red or leaf green version with nothing change but the pokemon, so you can catch all 1.-3. generation pokemon? I would do it, but to be honest, right now I'm to lazy to change all the wild pokemon. I never played fire red (or leaf green) but I don't want to miss all thenew pokemon.

Does anyone know about such a hack?

What do you mean? If you mean you want to make pokemon shiny in your hack...
You'll have to read and then apply mastermind X's tutorial to a rom, and then rescript the beginning of the rom.

Hey all, i have a question- obviously XD
Would it be possible to expand the pokedex so that it could include sinnoh pokemon? I am aware there are spaces between celebi and treecko but i was wondering if data could be pointed to blank offsets, thus expanding the pokedex. If it is possible how is it done?

Also, i have another question, would it be possible to implement 2-on-2 battle like in D/P. In other words, could you get another trainer to follow you, and battle with you?

i had a problem with searching for palettes on APE everytime i tried searching it sed no palette found so i was able to find my palettes in 2 different ways. this is for any1 also having trouble with the APE and the search function. first i search for the colors in the palette in the order they belonged the 2nd way was i opened up OWE found the OWs palette i wanted to edit the i imported my own OW and checked the box Import Palette then i saved it. i opened up APE searched for the colors the i used on my custom OW i imported and it worked and i got the offset numbers. i know i probably wrote a horrible mini tut but if any body needs palette offset numbers to Emerald, FR or LG then just pm or i will try and make a new thread to request palette offset numbers for those who have trouble with APE or dont know how to search for it using hex

As for your question, They meant one with '.tbl' support, like Translhextion 1.6
or Thingy 32 or Hex Workshop, etc.

How can I get the connections between maps right?

Because I now have A town and a route and another town and they go like this(GREEN)
But when I play it ingame it is like this (RED)

yes that I know but...I mean that the 2 exits of the map don't are connected so that if you go from the route to the town that you can't go trough because of the trees..

Hex editor. Or when you import a sprite onto OWE, they ask if you want
to import palette. Check it.

Another way is with OWE, by looking at the bottom, you can see most of the sprites are palette 3. Valid palettes go from: 0, 3, 4, umm, 16, 20, 21(that is not all of them)

You can also go To VBA's OAM viewer, and it'll show the sprites, and it'll give you the palettes. Look for it in palette viewer, then through hex.

Anyways, hex editing text isn't really that hard. Just take a look at coolboyman's tutorial. Hex editing text is the only way to edit any text in the game since you're just limited to edit what they give you in programs like A-text.

Well, when you change the text you are limited to the number of characters that you are given.

So if you wanted to change the word "girl" into another word that is more or less than 4 characters (since the world "girl" is 4 characters long) then you need to repoint the text which I don't know how to do. :x

I used advancemap on my emerald rom, and when I tried to open it the vba said I needed a BIOS file to run it. Then it would say Unsupported ARM mode 3, and the message kept on poppin up no matter how many times I closed it. What happened?

Ok, Ive tried posting this on the forum but for some reason its not letting me start new post. The other day it wouldnt let me log in, so its not that much of a suprise. Any way, on to my question:

I know this mite seem an odd question, but are the shiny pokemon a Separate file or the same as the nomal's? For instance, lets take Gyarados. In the game if the pokemon file Gyarados/Red Gyarados, or is there One file for Gyarados and Another for Red Gyarados?

Meaning that One Gym Leader I inserted had none of the colors fixed to have the regular Gym Leader pallette but when I try that with someone else then the pallette changes.

I have the same problem as yours, cooley. The only option I had was to delete the whole Elite Map and it's installer, and then I downloaded it again from WAH, and finally, it worked now.

Hope that helps, for it works for me when I had that problem.

I added a warp with advance map, and it works and all, but when I go through it, and come back through it, I places me in the middle of the room, instaed of at the door, does anyone know why?

You need to activate the national Dex.

that is because u must assign it a warp number so it follows to the warp it is leading to.

When i open the game in RS Bal for the pics, thets tall me "Unsopureted ROM" and Esc from the RS BALL...

I tried to use coolboyman's tutorial on hexecute (which was very thorough) but when I tried to find text, I came up with scrambled symbols and letters. When I tried to edit it, nothing happened. What did I do wrong?

You can't basically. You are limited when you're using a-Text, but when using
A hex editor you can edit any text in the game.

Oh yes you can! :D You just have to go to "search" and search for "appeared" with "Beginning of text" checked in its checkbox.

Darke Hawke: Keep assigning it numbers! You should eventually find the correct number that will lead to your destination. You may even have to change the numbers of where you are going to! :D

Sorry. I don't work with A-Text anymore because it cause glitches in the game(it once removed all events I worked hard in a map). A-Text works before but due to some glitches I made using another program, I used a backup ROM. That's when the text glitch starts.

EDIT: Ok. I get what you're saying

I actually editing the trainer battle like [CLASS] [TRAINER] would like to battle. I found the text but I can't edit it.

EDIT: Now I can. Thanks.

EDIT2: The other texts I changed in the past few months(like some texts of Oak at the lab, rival intro, etc.) are now glitch makers. How can I fix them?
