I moved the place of the scene at the beginning of R/S where the little blue dude won't let you pass to Route 101 if you don't have pokemon, but then when I recieved my starting Pokemon, I still couldn't go to route 101 because there was a script that said whatever the little blue guy said when he wouldn't let you pass.

Sooo... what's the problem?

Here is my problem.

I load my hack and when I choose my starter, the game freezes. Is this a common problem and does anyone know how to fix this?

And this is what i've done to my hack so far:

I changed some sprites with UNLZ. I also changed some poke's stats using pokemon amplifier. I changed some poke's types and edited poke's movepools and evos. (I think changing pokemons evos might have messed it up.) EX: changed Hitmonlees sprite to Munchlax, then changed it so Hitmonlee (Munchlax) evolves into Snorlax.

Is there a way to rip whole maps from an SNES game, without taking individual screen shots without the player sprite and stitching them together? Is there a special way to dump all of the maps?

When i try to compile a script in pokescript it says
error runtime 6: overflow
ive seached a few topics and havent found any answers as to how to
fix it. I'm just guessing, is it an installation error? or something else?

No, 1.2 is not good at all. You would have to use 1.0. Get it a http://www.freewebs.com/birminstudios

MickloIt really depends. Generally you would have to figure out the map format of the game, and then write a program that would load the ROM and output the full maps as a separate file.

No one answered my question so i'll repeat it (I deleted my other post so it wouldn't spam the thread).

What is the pallete offset for groudon on the ruby title screen? And where can I download a Kyledove ROM base? The patch at PHO dosen't work.

There's a tutorial about that specific question. Search around in the tutorials...

I can't help you with your tile needs, for I don't know...

This may sound like a n00bish question, but is it possible to have two pokemon breed and have the egg hatch as a totally different one? as i am considering creating a hack called Pokemon Brock's Dream, in which the character is a breeder and only certain pokemon can be caught and these must be bred in certain combinations before others can be obtained and the player can progress. :\

Try using hex, look in the documents and tutorials section on how to do it.

could you replace the different types of unknown with d/p pokes?
then only one would show up on the dex, but that could be easily explained with a simple script from the prof saying that the pokedex is not that advanced and they would be grouped as a single entry

Possible, but seeing as Unown is catergorised into one Pokemon which means they all learn Hidden Power. So if they all know Hidden Power, all your DP Pokemon will have a single attack which is exactly the same as the others.

@Hermaniac: Overwriting Unown with other pokemon is definitely not an option, due to Unown's unique sprite properties. Suffice it to say that that's impossible. Replacing another Pokemon or simply inserting him in would be the way to go.

@Blazichu: CBM has inserted new pokemon on a youtube video.

1.6 was the latest released, but the creators have a future version that is unreleased, so you might have to wait if you want a better version than 1.6.

erm for firered/leafgreen just go to unlz and find the pictures in black/white

for ruby/saphire/emerald just edit the hero's trainer sprites in unlz

And I know what it does, and I have inserted it at 0x182666, I have a pointer calculator, so I put 182666 and got 606666 I took the last four numbers: 6666 and Put it into the the script now what? I reversed it: 66 66 to 66 66 then made sure it was between 4000 and 7FFF using a Hex calculator.

I don't know how to assign it to an overworld, unless Zeromap had support for English gold Roms..xD I don't know if I did the process right The only person to help me, was "the Dude" he is the Nicest person in the world!

Please tell me how to assign pointers to Overwolrds.

I just learned gold scripting in one day! except without assigning it, it is nothing. Anyways, what is the offset for the Hiro's starting location? and x and y coordinates also?

1. Gold Map Suite is an edited version of 1.5.

2. You need to find the person or original pointer in hex, like what a person says. The events data in GoldMap should be the offset. So you search for their original script text and then find the pointers of the script text and then go to the start of their script and find the pointer for that then search down for it in hex.

3. 0x15139 is where Hiro begins and he starts his X position at 03 and Y position at 03.

Don't think so, unless you decide to take a deep look in ASM hacking or hex. In scripting there are give egg codes so they could come in use and also you can change what group a Pokemon breeds under.

I was considering the hex editor as an option yes, but I was checking if there was a dedicated editor just in case. I really do than you for the help you have been giving, I find it quiet exemplary =P

Poketext can edit most text but not all unless you add some offsets to the list. I have also put up the Hex to letter list for R/B/Y/G/S below.

I tried editing the pallete for "Gengar vs Nidorino" but when I edit Gengar's, Nidorino is now crappy like this:

I found it at 0x181663. Changed it to 66 66 and now I changed my script to:

Well that will read from the offset 186666, so you need to put text under the 180000-18FFFF to read the text from there unless you use 4B instead of 4C which can load a three byte pointer, but to change that person's script to something new you need to go to that start of there old script calculate the pointers of it, then do a downward search of the pointer you got. Then type over the old script pointers the person has.

Well I am no longer editing the mom script since it has a built in map script.
So I decided to give the Girl in New Bark Town a try.(The one that stops you from going to route 29). Here are the results:

You need to use the offset of the 00 before the text. Then the person should read the script, scripting can be difficult at times I guess xD

First off you need to put the load code ie. [73][Bubble] and then [74][Bubble][Person][Amount of time].

Umm...you have to do hex to decimal to get the number you want, eg. 10 = OA.

Search for his sprite in unLZ.GBA and import a new one over it.

If you mean the PKMN's Pokedex data (e.g. TREECKO has the ability to jump from branch to branch, blablabla...), then it can be done with A-Txt...

The backgrounds in Ruby are located at 1379-1407, in Fire Red they are located at 255-257 in unLZ.GBA.

This is for Pokemon Gold,

What is the number of the tree tiles in unLZ? I'm using FireRed.

It would be loacted probably around 0-100, but an alternative way is using A-Map's Block Editor.

can anyone anser my question?

To index the image, you just paste the new image over the old image after exporting the old one, then you save and import the old one with the new image overwrite.

It is located near offset 0x39DC74, use a tile editing tool.

Hello. I hope I am in the correct area for this. Anyways, here goes...I started to make a hack for pokemon leafgreen. I made a cave in Pallet Town, and had it warp to a new map that i had created. I made the new area to get some better pokemon in the begining. I have tested the warps, but when i play the ROM in VBA, i go through the door, and the new area pops up for a second, but then the game like crashes and says "communication error. Check all connections then turn power on then off."

What does this mean, how do I fix it so the area works, and I apologize if i have posted this in the wrong area, as i am new to the forums.

Well rsBall only supports Ruby/Sapphire, so you open up a R/S rom in rsBall then click export on the trainers and the pokemon to get there images. PET should run a FR/LG rom.

1. Agixp, I made a tut on how to insert, check it out in the Documents/Tutorials.

2. Thingy32 and Trans|hextion are simple to use hex editors, yet all of them are so try many out.

3. In a tile editing program like TLP and Tile Molester, you need to repoint some tiles to edit though.

Umm...I don't have a list on that, but have a look over the trainer you are doing or try a number until correct(trial and error).

Whenever you change something, you need bytes right? So I just saw my Pokemon Ruby ROM (Game I'm hacking) reaches 277 MB. I figured that this is because whenever I change something in Advance Map, bytes were added to the size.

Well, the answer is you can't unless you make it into a patch. I have also never seen a rom become 277MB, unless the rom doesn't work. Most R/S/E roms are around 16-32MBs.

But the other offsets you gave me are for the actual hero/ heroine sprite, i mean to change the image of the hero/heroine's head that appears on the hoenn map in the pokenav, because changing the actual sprite still leaves these here!

I don't think you'll be able to find these easily, you'll have to use TLP or Tile Molester, it should be around the sprite section.

It should be somewhere near the items or sprites. It has to be..

FR Male Trainer = 0x35B968

Just use APE or go to that offset in hex and edit.

Ok, Since everyone needs offsets, I'll tell you how to obtain them.
2 ways. 1: is the export the palettes from VBA's palette viewer, then import it in ape, then click search. It will give you the offset.

2: is to get the row of palettes which has the palette you want to edit, and search in hex. The last offset you get will be the offset in APE.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN I'M BACK TO HACKING FR!!!!

Anyways, the slide doors of both the pkmn centres and the gym building are animated when you enter/exit in ruby, right..?

is it possible to change their color or animation using any hacking tools (or maybe Tile Molester can do the job, but Idk...)..?

Does a palette code search, by looking at them in VBA then do a byte reversal then search for the bytes (changing this palette will edit the other red palettes).

The FR Female Trainer's palette is located at 0x35B968. I don't get by what Palette #19 is in Overworld Editor, try to be more specific.

It appears that your palettes don't match the ones there, so you just probably need to fix that.

By pasting the old palettes over the ones you have done, you have to use within the 16 palettes given.

As Blazichu said the main problem could be the palette, use the eyedropper and replace the new tiles with the current palettes. If you want the palettes to look different then thats a whole different story..

Watch out when your doing this because the game could crash if you change too many.

Yes, it does work, you just need to palette change some of your tilesets to get them to work correctly.

Ok well I looked back at the resource where I got them from, and they actually turned out to be R/S/E Tiles...So that might explain it xD ( I'm using FR )

1. RSE still has a different palette to the FR tileset, so just use the eyedropper and fill in the tiles with the colours.

2. Try shinking them down a bit, cutting parts off might help you get it to fit.

Abilities can be changed in PA, the cries can be changed in hex and the names can be changed in N-E-A.

Umm...by finding the pointers of which pallete the Hiro uses, anyway it is located at 0xB8EE.

Why, you trying to hack gold now? Well, I wouldn't recommend using it until there is documentation on it. I have it, but I'm not giving it away. I might think About it though...

Yes there is. You would need to use hex, do it the way you would do in FR. Searching through the hex editor for the colors, then replace it.

That is the Tile behaviours then, just do a trial and error until you get the right one.

tyvm blazichu i have it all fixed now cept for the birch thing for some reason it everything opens starngely on my tile molester i change the codec but... anyone no wats happening? oh and blazichu im ready top edit my thread on gec... delete this part of post if u want...

You might have you move the tiles up and down, I am uncertain how Tile Molester does it (try + and -) and edit the colour schemes if you have to. It could also be a problem with the version you are using, another tile editing program that could be helpful is TLP if it does not continue to work.

For the last Freakin time, Search for the <Bleep> offsets your self!
Go to VBA, play till you see the person, then you go to Palette viewer, and click save BG. Then you open APE and import the BG.pal file, you can click on "Index" left or Right, so That when you get the colors, you can click Load by searching.

It will give you the offset, for the palette. You click on load by offset and you should get the palette, then you can copy, and replace the colors.

This is Directed toward Celebi_XD and Reaper 6. Call yourselves Hackers, who can't even Try to learn how to do things on your own. Not to sound harsh, but If I didn't tell you then no one would have.

Well, I've posted a tutorial that explain how to search and replace palettes. I guess you both should take a closer look ot the Documents and Tutorials section (http://pkmncommunity.com/showthread.php?t=117917).



When i click on dexter there is an error even when i have leaf green in the directory. whats wrong?

Dexter isn't fully compatible with FR/LG ROMs. The best solution for now would be to use a hex editor. I've posted in this thread the Pokédex structure inside the ROM, just search it.

Fire Red/Leaf Green

Try editing some of those palletes until you get the right ones. Then just copy and paste them in after exporting it via the block editor.

I don't know if this is possible but you could try and insert new palettes then have the pointer leading to the colour chnaged into that new one.

In AdvanceMap you need to set the rocks tiles to the Above part of Above/Below and then put the grass as the below part.

Well you have to use the eyedropper and colour in your tiles the same as the old ones, becuase you can't go beyond the 16 colours that are set in a palette. Also I don't think Palette 1 displays correctly...so hex would be another option for that.

In AdvanceMap you need to set the rocks tiles to the Above part of Above/Below and then put the grass as the below part.

1. The eyedropper is in many programs such as Paint and Photoshop. In Paint, it is above the pencil tool.

2. I can script in hex for all generations, but not using a scripting tool. If you want to learn in that style then there is a scripting thread under the Rom Hacking section.

I have 2 problems.

2. There is a tool that comes with EliteMap called PokeCryGUI, maybe try that. Otherwise do a search for the Pokemon cry in hex and change it into another one.

In AdvanceMap, you load the block editor(Ctrl +B) and then go File>Save Tileset 1 or 2 to save your tileset that will be changed. Then edit or create new tiles using the colours within the palette limit(don't bring outside colours in). Then in the block editor in AdvanceMap, go Load Tileset 1 or 2. Then your tile should be there.

You can, you would have to look over a trade script and see how it is done. I am uncertain what the script or the hex code is for this one...A good example would be at 0x157C7D in a R/S ROM or at 0x16E2C2 in an FR/LG ROM, just have a look at there coding or script structure and follow that to make a new one using pointers and blank space.

PS. The Trade code could be [26] in hex.

You can change the definition of the item by A-text.
Go to search and type in the description of the item and change it!

It could be an error in your rom(in unLZ.GBA), so you might have to get a new one if you want it to work. Also have you tried the + and - buttons? See if that is the issue.

On a map, on the names on the left hand side should contain 2 numbers next to it. The first number is the Map bank and the second number is the map. Just insert those numbers into the Map Bank and Map number onto the warp going to the map.

Add two new signs in A-map
place them in their respective spots
Make simple text scripts for each, and insert them

If you don't know how to script at all, I'm not really sure how to help you
But, if this is a hack, do you really need to have the same signposts in from the original? o.0

Erimgard told you how to do it. The script offset is $165859 for the Rival's house and the script offset is $165862 for the sign which displays the town name.

you could try and look at them with a new and untouched (or shall we say 'unhacked') FireRed ROM. then, just copy everything (unknowns, offsets, var numbers, etc) from the original to your rom and it should work (that happeend to me like.., I forgot how many times now. :D). I was contemplating starting a new hack. I'm set on certain ideas of how the game goes, I just don't know where to start at all.

Right, would it be wise for me to go through the scripts, in ScriptED, for example, and take note of which flags are set in the early stages of the game? i.e. PokéDex, the truck, setting the clock, etc.

Any input into this would be much, much appreciated! Maybe some hackers could tell me where they started from?

It would be helpful for yourself, also have a look at a few tutorials and see where they start. I remember Kike-Scott having one about flags...so that could be handy.

You can either script in new text using a script editor or add in new text using hex then write in the new offset over the old one.

Movement permissions view in A-Map, you can change it so that you can walk on certain objects, if that's what you're talking about.

You would have to use check codes and text. It is possible you can either script it using a script editor or hex.

Yes, Pokescript can do it. I never learnt script that way, so look over a few tutorials (like Christos' one). I could do it in hex but you might not get it.

There are possibly two ways, switch the gym leader order around and make the leader give you the badge you want or add a flag than enables surf.

You probably need to use unLZ.GBA to replace the Pokemon, first you export the Pokemon and then paste your one over it then import it back into the ROM. If the palettes are incorrect then palette change the orginal sprite first, there are many tutorials on how to palette change.

I'm really sorry to press the situation, as I've asked enough questions already, and I'm sorry for not being clear enough. This is what I meant.
I meant that I didn't know how to add a script without having a sprite say the message. That isn't the type of script that shown in tutorials. That's just text editable. You can edit the text in a hex editor or in A-Text.

Everytime I enter the new house (the interior is a remapped interior area of a house from a Secret Base), it still asks if I want to make this a secret base...
So.., my question is.., how can I remove that..?

Go to header view in a-map, go to map options and there will be type, it will be set to 09 ???, just change it to indoors!

I think it's probably found in the level script. I only know a little bit about level scripts, but probably not enough to figure out how to fix that problem. I'll still try and I'll let you know if I can fiond anything.

What's the problem? You haven't said what the problem is.

EDIT: This is all for a Pokemon Sapphire (GBA) ROM. ;)

1. You can download them here at www.freewebs.com/birminstudios/pokescript.exe.
And for that you need Pkmnadv : www.freewebs.com/birminstudios/pkmadv.exe.

2. You can use unLZ to export then edit, then import any trainers sprite. Then you can use PET to edit which sprite you want for which battle. For Sapphire start searching at 1290+. You can edit the Overworlds with Hackmew's Overworldeditor RE.

3. Same as 2, but the main character is located at 1294-1295 (unLZ).

4. Spenceroone3 has a pretty thorough tutorial on Pokescript.

I'm not sure if I can ask this but I have a problem. I've been on my computer all day reading threads, visiting other sites, downloading numerous tools, and reading tutorial after tutorial but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the "enable National Dex" thing for FR/LG to work. I am new at this too but I'd like to think I've learned alot today, but not enough.

I have only 2 requests

1) Can someone walk me through getting the National Dex enabled?
or
2) Can someone give me a Fire Red patch with no changes except for having National Dex always enabled?

Thank you for your time if either of my requests are fufilled and I apologize if I'm violating any rules (though I read them and this seems to be allowed)

Reposting my questions since I didn't get much (useful) help last time. :/

How do I make an OW appear once a flag is set?

Also, is it possible to make certain OWs have the property to be walked on? (like the boulders in Clair's gym)
