Well when going into Cheat Lists... then click either Game-Genie or Gameshark.

Copy and paste a code and put it into the bottom box. For example 01??F0D5, seeing as it has ?? you need to insert a value. So I'll put 0101F0D5 which should give me a Pokeball in the first Pokeball slot.

It isn't too difficult to do.

You can always use check item codes but for certain functions I would not know where that data is located, like enabling some items might be flagged.

ok, i had just made a map bigger on advancemap and it worked
i opened it in elitemap and edited the tiles
i then changed the second tileset of the map and reopened it in advancemap to work with the changed tileset
after i did that i edited the tile permissions (wall, walkthrough, water, etc...)
and after i went to open it again in elitemap, it said "overflow error" or something about that
i don't know what happened <_<

There is NO surf overworld. It's just the player's sprite while surfing. zel and Sergio just edited that sprite. ( They didn't edit some seperate OW >.>)

Well, how can I edit it then? I searched in the SG and Naranja files (OWE) but I still couldn't find HOW they do it. In SG it's just the Hero in a sitting pose, but no lapras or something.
Does somebody know how to edit them? (FireRed) (Surf overworld)

Export a Vapereon, not edited sprite and then copy the colours onto your new one. Make sure you have a maximum of 16 colours, more then that will cause errors.

Whismar = 7201
Loudred = 7301
Exploud = 7401
Dunsparce = CE00
Pichu = AC00
Cleffa = AD00
Igglybuff = AE00

I wouldn't know hex offsets, or where they are located...

One problem, though. My RS ball gives me an error when I try to access the trainer/Pokemon back sprites.

"Pokemon/Trainer backpics location is not specified in INI."

Do I need a new RS Ball, or am I in trouble again?

You can always use unLZ-GBA as an alternative, just keep on clicking next until you get to the Pokemon.

That doesn't help me...

It's justly what I've done,and that give me this error!
Is there a program to export/import/edit the colors of pokémon WITHOUT change the palette that was given to this Pokémon?

You can export sprites using most Pokemon sprite editing tool, all you have to do is copy the colour of the non-edited sprite onto the new sprite. Instead of adding colours that do not exist in the palettes, the other option would be to palette change the original Vaporeon's colours.

Well it could be an issue with your ROM file, maybe get a new one. To index sprites either paste over an original/unedited sprite or use a paint-like program that can index image colours.

Maybe ask in the Script Questions instead, about variables.

2. You can export the tileset from Advance-Map from the Block Editor(Ctrl+B), Then go File > Save Tileset 1 or 2. To import the tileset back in, go to File > Import Tileset 1 or 2.

This is... kinda weird. When I try to write an í (i with accent), Advance Text turns it into a blank space once I click on save. The strange thing, all the other vowels don't have any problem (á, é, ó, ú). Does someone know how can I get it to work?

Use your VBA to find the specific palettes, then search for the flipped values using VBA.

the solution to your problem is changing the save type. Go Options>Emulator>Save Type>FLASH 128k. And if you want to enable time-based events (growing berries etc.) go Options>Emulator and tick real time clock. You have to delete your previous .SAVs for it to work.

Either Pokemon Amplifier or Poke Edit Pro by Darthatron. Personally, I use PEP, and it should be right there in the toolbox.

Hello I am having elite map problems do not tell me to switch to advance map I just want to use elite map. Now I can look at the pallet town map but I can not look at the other maps if I try to it will just freeze then elite map will disapear.

How would I write a script for Pokedex data? Would it be just like a typical dialog script (without 'lock' 'faceplayer' etc commands)?

One more question, would anyone know the Pokemon scripting code for Luvdisc (as in Eevee's is 0x85) so that you press A at a Pkeball and get a Luvdisc? If you can help with either question, thanks.

Hello I need help I am using P.E.T to edit trainer's then put them into a script. When I press make script it asks for put offset for trainer battle. What do I put here. Then after that it asks to put 0, 1, 2, or 3 for what type of trainer battle what does this mean.

Hi, I'm using pokemon amplifier to edit the TMs/HMs the pokemon can learn, and after I press the save button, some of the HMs I checked get unchecked and instead the "NO USAR" (don't use) get checked... what's going on, how can I fix/prevent this?

mmkay, here's the scenario
i'm making a forest like a maze
the player will have to jump one of two ledges
one ledge will lead to a maze
and one will lead to a dead end (and the player can't get back up)
i want the dead end to have a house with an old lady who will tell the player he can't get back out by normal means and will use one of her own pokémon to fly him out of the forest back to the last visited pokémon center
i want to know if this script is possible to create (more simply put, if i can force the player to use fly even if he doesn't have a pokémon that knows fly himself)

i need your help!

1. No it's not possible, the Pokedex only holds that ammount of Pokemon catchable plus 25 extra slots, which I beleive don't show in the Pokedex. If you wanted to do such a thing, it would be much more advanced than common ASM skills.
3. Apparently scizz has gone walkabouts >.<. If you want Diamond/Peal midi files, a rombase can be found at PHO, and i beleive some websites would have them aswell.
4. I think you might be able to with ASM, otherwise, the world map you have is the one your going to have to stick to.

You can always use a hex editor to do so.

mmkay, here's the scenario
i'm making a forest like a maze
the player will have to jump one of two ledges
one ledge will lead to a maze
and one will lead to a dead end (and the player can't get back up)
i want the dead end to have a house with an old lady who will tell the player he can't get back out by normal means and will use one of her own pokémon to fly him out of the forest back to the last visited pokémon center
i want to know if this script is possible to create (more simply put, if i can force the player to use fly even if he doesn't have a pokémon that knows fly himself)

Yes, it could be possible. With the flying part maybe just use a warp code instead.

1. You can always replace those '??', unsure if they will appear in the Pokedex though.
4. It is possible, you probably just need to locate the data in hex then expand or repoint it to a new location if expanding isn't possible.

PET comes with EliteMap, just search google for it. Hex is probably the better way to do it though seeing as it doesn't get as many errors.

There's a tutorial on how to index sprites in the documents and tutorials section. People are working on figuring out how to hack them.

Well, i know how to use this thing well but i have one problem. When i rezise the map (route 29, the only route to get out of newbark town) in goldmap, res tthe events (how they were just in a slightly different location) save and play the map outside the town looks crazy and i cant leave the town. Anyone can help here?

I seem to always have this problem. I make a warps, and about the first 3-5 work, and then the next ones just fail. I step onto the warp and it doesn't warp.... I've double checked the warps.

You'd have to remove the level scripts in the game, or perhaps change the scripts to the characters that are involved in key events. I don't know how to remove level scripts yet, but if you want to remove the truck intro, you'd have to use Start Map Chooser Advance, which is a tool made by HackMew, viewable in the Toolbox subforum.

whenever i exit a battle and return to the overworld map, the player is stuck and i can move around this bug catcher that was on screen from before entering the battle
it also only happens with that particular bug catcher
other battles when the catcher isn't on screen are fine

You would have to resize the map then repoint the data to a new location using hex.

It can be done, you would have enable a flag that allows the Gyarados to appear at night only. Then you would have to script in the battle code to allow you to battle a shiny Gyarados.

Sounds like a bad glitch to me, you probably either have to fix up some scripts or restrat your game with a clean or backup ROM.

I need help! I used poke edit pro to put in some of the 4th gen pokemon in my ruby hack and when I try to test the game the whole screen in the emulator goes white.. is there something I can do or do I have to start all over??

i tried that, it didn't work.

i just ends up as [filename].GBA but is still a .BAK file

is there some certain setting which makes the file type changeable?

but i will still ask, how do i change .BAK files to .GBA files??

The list continues this way until you reach a FF for the first byte, which signifies the end of the list.

To add to a new area, you would want to
a) Overwrite an existing entry in the list
b) repoint the list and add new entries there

I need help! I used poke edit pro to put in some of the 4th gen pokemon in my ruby hack and when I try to test the game the whole screen in the emulator goes white.. is there something I can do or do I have to start all over??

Did you change your save type? Go to Options > Emulator > Save Type > Flash 128K in the VBA.

The Internal Clock is the clock that you set at the beginning of Ruby, if it doesn't work then berries will not be able to grow. Also if you can't see them in Pokepic then if you want to replace anything you probably can't.

Originally, I asked this in the wrong forum by mistake, but I hope someone here can help me - I'm having some issues with the Sappy program ^_^'

Basically, after I convert midis into .s files and import them into the game (in this case, Pokemon Ruby) via Sappy, they sound NOTHING like the original midi file. They play very choppily, with poor sound quality, and it's driving me crazy. I know how to do the entire process of changing the music, but nothing I can do seems to improve the actual quality of the music I try to make use of even though the original MIDIs sound just fine. Any advice would be REALLY appreciated! :)

I need a program to change the names of the Pokemon. So when Chimchar is battling it doesn't say "Scyther."

Use Poke Edit Pro (from Darthatron) in the Toolbox Thread. It lets you edit Base stats, names, movepools, and even evolutions.

You'll probably need to edit the pallete or something. Does the front sprite look the same?

So I tried to edit the border block and make it something else, but when I make the border block different all it does is make it so I can't move anywhere and the whole screen is surrounded by border blocks. How can I fix this? Please help me. :(

I believe the text box is deeply compressed into the ROM, I haven't been able to locate them.

Ah ok, you can always cancel that animation, I believe it is compressed and can probably be edited using ASM.

Sounds like you are just missing a file, make sure you have all files out of the zip or rar folder.

1. You just need to untick 'Auto abort if new data is bigger' when going 'Write to ROM'.
2. Did you convert the .sav to a .gba first by using No$GBAtoVBA?

It should create a larger file, new one after converting it. Also make sure when converting don't use the same name as the save you had. Otherwise it won't work correctly.

Alright to the person who responded to my question, thank you finally someone responded. But when I edit the movement permissions everything like the 0's are the empty spaces on the ground, the moveable areas, the not-passable areas are 1. But what does this have to do with the border block? It will not let me move anywhere.

Ok. I did both of those and now the background has gone away...but the character is still messed up. Is it possible that it has something to do with the Sapphire Version? Once again I'll attach a pic of it. I have also attached the three pics that mess up.

The pic of May I still need to edit like you told me to. But it appearantly doesn't even work when I do those two things.

EDIT: Brand spankin' new problem! I've taken a break from ^ and gone onto editing in Overworld. I'm putting in the old Gold Version male player srite over Steven and it says that It is not in 16 colors and it won't work. The thing is though...it is in 16 colors. I'll attach a pic.

Also, if I'm uploading a map, but using "prt scr" doesn't give me a screencap of the whole map, then how else can I upload the entire thing in one peice. Imageshack doesn't accept .map's, and I can't save it as a JPG, so what do I do.

Lastly, what are the points of level scripts? I wanna make sure I konw the extent to which I can script, so I'm going to need to know what they are, what they do, how they work, etc.

It appears you have to just palette change the sprites, try using APE or a hex editor.

All the backpics should be around the offset E69FFC, you are probably better off using a tile editing tool.

Thanks for help on the second in third questions. But what I meant by flight positions was "Is there a way to create new flight positions? There was something I wanted to do where I wanted to make a new map in the game (or even just a map that doesn't usually have a flight position, like a route) where part of it is only accessible by flying. But when I open Flight Positions under events, there's nothing there that will let me create a new one.

In other words, would I just have to edit over a preexisting map to do this.

EDIT: Nevermind, I realized all I needed to do was move the tile to another map. Thanks for the help.

I need the title screen offsets (Game Freak and Pokemon Fire Red logo).
Sorry about that, I forgot to mention what ones I needed.

The logo is at EAD508 and the Game Freak logo is at EAE3A8.

Changing the animation using a tile editing tool should allow the aniamtion to work correctly, you just need to place the tile and add in movement permissions using A-Map.

Did you check and see if your ROM file is a read-only file?

Somebody has the archive *.tbl for Japanese R/S/E/FR/LG versions?

You should be able to find it on google, or search for Poketext it comes with all the table files.

You won't be able to find it in TLP, it is compressed. Use unLZ-GBA to find it (256 colour mode also).

Hey everyone,

As my first post, i am going to post some questions that i have been dealing with while making my hack.

After I tweaked a few things with a-map in the game(I only added a puddle).My character starts walking underground :/,if I turn him forward he turns into some black thing.

Hey everyone,

Yes you can find RS ball in elitemap, but you can find APE in the toolbox in hackmews tool factory.

Well, i havent been able to find rubikon.dat. Ive found a few things that say i should check in the rom folder, but there is nothing there. I saw Celebi post a thing such as this, but it wasnt answered.

Anyway, i am now using Advancemap 1.9 and when i click the button "look at script" for any of the scripts, like the ones that gamefreak did or anything, it says "Invalid" for the offest number.

I can copy a test script from a tutorial, name it something simple like "basic" without the "'s, and it still wont work. Ill keep on looking for Rubikon.dat though.

Back to question 2, will there ever be a way to make people follow you? I saw back in an old pokemon yellow thread that the guy was trying to make it happen, but he never succeeded. I think this would be very cool, and you could make a game that is very closely related to the tv series if you could.

Question 3, i wont ask anything about it. But i will look into ASM, thanks for the tip.

And question 4, i will do the same and look for ASM, so i can have many different weather patterns.

Im new aswell, but i can help with your pokecenter problem.

First, once you load your rom into AM, then go to the Map view and draw your pokecenter by using the pictures on the right. Then, go to events view and click the ticker for Warps up by 1. Then re-point it and a new warp will appear at the top left. Then, drag the warp to the door of your poke center. Next, go to a different map and click on the warp on a different poke center. Then press "follow warp" and you will be pointed twards the inside of a center. Next, copy down the numbers at the top (In petalburg, once you follow the warp it goes to 8.4). Now, enter in those numbers in the warp Map Bank and Map. Then, just to be sure, press follow warp to see if you did it right.

I've heard that a new trainer editor may appear sooner or later...

Well, I don't really use PA, but try Darthatron's Pokemon Editor Pro. In my opinion it works even better than Pokemon Amplifier (lets you edit names), and it's right in the toolbox.

Ive decided not to use Pokescript, but to resort to ScriptED instead. But now, after i place in my code, and i press compile, i save over my game, and then up pops up a message box saying :

Run-time error '9':
Subscript out of range

I did some searching, and i havent seen this problem being dealt with in scripted. I did however see that people who get the message have to just download a file.

Do i have to download something else? Or am i just doing something wrong?

Go to the tools section of the forum, and look up "your scripted evolved into a pokescript", the thread. The links on the first page fail to work, but at the end of the thread there is a post with pokescript in it.

I didn't delete your post, I moved it to the scripting questions thread in the Scrapbox. Secondly, you are still asking about scripting programs, so they are about scripting in a way.

EDIT: If I see any scripting related questiosn here I will move them to the Script Help Thread in the Scrapbox. Remember scripting would classify as scripting with an editor or using hex editors.

I had some free time so I decided to answer the questions posted in the past few days which weren't answered or which didn't get a proper response (IHMO, of course). Hope it helps.


This is... kinda weird. When I try to write an í (i with accent), Advance Text turns it into a blank space once I click on save. The strange thing, all the other vowels don't have any problem (á, é, ó, ú). Does someone know how can I get it to work?

Well, it looks like A-Text doesn't "support" the i with acute accent. But don't worry you can still use it. Just type "[&H6F]" (without quotes). If you want to use the "Í" character instead, type "[&H5A]" (always without quotes).

The fastest and easiest way is APE. It's available in my Tools Factory.

Just use APE. There's an official tutorial in the Documents and Tutorials section. The link is available on my sign under "My Knowledge".
Remember that overworlds palettes are displayed on the Sprite part of the Palette Viewer on VBA.

When I insert it makes the whole title screen background yellow.

It's most likely you overwrote some extra data after the LZ77-compressed picture. Do not uncheck the "Abort if it is too big" checkbox. It's a bad behaviour, and it should be always avoided. Instead, repoint it to some free space.
To do so, search a good place to put the repointed picture to, then check the "Automatically fix pointer" option and change the Image Offset accordingly. A backup, as always is recommend.

I would suggest you to not rely on PET ability to create scripts and to make your own by hand. Ask in the Script Help if needed.


mmkay, here's the scenario
i'm making a forest like a maze
the player will have to jump one of two ledges
one ledge will lead to a maze
and one will lead to a dead end (and the player can't get back up)
i want the dead end to have a house with an old lady who will tell the player he can't get back out by normal means and will use one of her own pokémon to fly him out of the forest back to the last visited pokémon center
i want to know if this script is possible to create (more simply put, if i can force the player to use fly even if he doesn't have a pokémon that knows fly himself)

The simplest solution is to use a warp command in your script. There are quite a lot warp commands available, with different effects. For example, there's one which resembles the Escape Rope animation.

You should never expand your ROM. The ROM itself shouldn't be bigger than 16,777,216 bytes. If you add any further data, it's most likely the ROM won't be able to recognize it since each pointer can't point to anything bigger than 0xFFFFFF.
Is a compressed sprite you want to write over the old one is bigger, the only working solution is a repoint. Unchecking the "Auto abort" option should be avoided.
Regarding the palette problem, can I point you to my tutorial? The link is available on my sign (-> My Knowlegde).


Is there a way to delete/change the storyline scripts? Like (in ruby) starting in the moving truck and then your mom taking you inside the house... or getting the red orb, etc.. I want to make my hack start in the bedroom but in another city..

You could use SMCA to change the location you start at. You won't be able to get rid of the shaking effect, though. That's ASM and at the moment there's no "shaking-fix".

Were you hacking Fire Red, perhaps? Because it happened to me once.
A simple solution I found is to add a new person and then switch the buggy one with the new created one. In your case the buggy one would be the bug catcher.
Then make sure the buggy trainer is off-screen. That should fix the problem.


Is it possible to use a flag instead of a variable for a level script? If not what variables are not used by the game already? This is for FR.

Actually Level Scripts do not use flags. They use variables. How to find good variables? Well, the easiest way is a guess and trial process. Most variable starts with the 40XX prefix, where XX can be any hex number between 0 and 255 (0x0 - 0xFF). Try some numbers until you find something working.
Also, remember that variable numbers must be unique. That means, you can't use two or more Level Scripts sharing the same variable number.

That's perfectly normal. A-Text is preloaded with only a bunch of texts. The rest is up to you: you have to search the text you want to edit and add it to the INI.

I remember it opening in my laptop (which has vista), but maybe I'm messing up... what error does it return? If it asks for a file, just download it.

Let's say I didn't want to use a pointer calculator to get a pointer in Gold, how would I figure out the gold pointer? There would have to be some method, wouldn't there?If the offset is >=4000, then we can get its pointer by ((offset MOD 4000) + 4000). Say our offset is 034BB1:

034BB1 Mod 4000 = 0BB1
0BB1 + 4000 = 4BB1

In the game it's generally little-endian: B14B

Three-byte pointers use the bank number as well. You get the byte number by rounding down to the nearest 4000 and dividing by 4000.

034BB1 -> 034000
034000 / 4000 = 0D

If the offset is <4000, then the offset is the pointer, little-endian. If our offset is 3728, then the pointer is usually 2837. Offsets <4000 generally don't have three-byte pointers, because that would be redundant.

so guys.... i've been messing round and looking for help with this perticular question that has been bothering myself....

how can one go about creating free space from old data that is being scrapped out such as old scripts, maps from the original game, all while not destroying the rom itself...

i mean fire red but could be applyed to any rom i'm assuming....

I remember it opening in my laptop (which has vista), but maybe I'm messing up... what error does it return? If it asks for a file, just download it.

For all who have troubles with Vista, I have found the single BEST solution. All you need to do is download the COMDLG32.OCX file from somewhere, (google is your friend) then put it in c:windows\system32
After that search google for "install-ocx.exe"
Download the one from graphicsconverter, it should be the 6th one down. Use that file, and everything should, no, will, run fine.

I think I've PMed every hacker here, so I'm going to just post my problem here.

I recently moved on to Ruby (Fire Red was being a jerk), and I don't have a clue on how to edit the title screen of Ruby.

Oh, sure, I've tried all of the few (and I mean few) guides on PC, but they all end up somewhat like this:

Not even editing the palette turns out right.

Yet, the creator of Pokemon B&W managed to make a perfectly clean title screen:

So I just thought I'd ask how to pull this off, because editing Fire Red's title screen was so much easier and nobody's responding to my PMs.

Hm... I see you're problem. Even though I'm not much of a person that creates title screen, I THINK I know. Well, it's a series of changing through Unlz, APE, and Cyclone. You have to make use of ALL 16 colors that are available. In your title screen (the one with errors), I can only count about 3-4 palettes, if I'm counting correctly. Unlz is a bit of a pain, but if you have good eyes, you can pull it off (and ALL spriters have good eyes! :D)

Hi, just a little problem, hopefully "simple". I just need to know how to get rid of the cash register in a mart, at least I think it's the cash register. I changed the tileset, so now it's the right section of a lounge.

Anyway, it isn't displayed on A-Map, so how do I get rid of it? Screenshot attached.

Depends on what you are edit and if you want different colours.

what are the ape offsets for the sign textbox and also what are the tilelayerpro offstes for the sign textbox for both for fire red

2. You are probably better off editing them using A-Map or unLZ-GBA.

since this website has a romhacking thread for pkmn which is the most popular in PC I'd like to ask not request if there are hack tools for PKMN mystery dungeon red rescue team? It is ofcourse a pkmn advance game for gba.

01 is it possible to give the 28 varieties different palettes? (and can you give them all diff shiny palettes too?)
02 is it possible to give each one a slightly different moveset? (i want to give them all the same move plus one unique move and)
03 is it possible to give each one of them a slightly different stats? (i want to give one a 5+ on att, another 5+ on defense, etc...)

01 - Im pretty sure. You would have to delete other pokemon, but you could give each of them a different pallete so they look different. Shiny palletes are on each pokemon regardless, so im sure if you change the pallete then it will change the shiny one aswell.

02 - If the pokemon are all seperate pokemon, you can then edit each one and give them all the moves you want. Try the A-tack tool.

03 - Same as above, so yes you can. Just download the Poke Edit Pro, and you can decide the stats for any pokemon.

Currently there are no PMD Red hacking tools that I know of.

I took out the counter so that I could show the problem more easily. That's the problem, it isn't even an event on the map.
