I prefer using the INI section because of the way it's grouped together. It's easier than searching for the right place in the numbered sections. That's why I do need it to be in English.

Is there any reason why it isn't in the correct language? Are all the Advance Map version 1.90 like that or did I maybe just get a defective file?

What language would that part of Advance Map be using?

Is there any way I can rename the files so they show the correct names?

I want to create a hack based around breeding, and the only way you can progress is to breed properly. i.e. to get to the next section you need to cut a tree, you must breed a poochyena and a magnamite to get "Steelpooch" which can learn cut.

So what I want to know is:
- Can you change what pokemon can breed together?
- Can you change what results of the breeding?
- Where can I learn how to do this?

Well it sounds like a glitch...

How do I change the pokemon that's chasing prof. birch at the beggining of ruby/saphire?

To change the OW you can use A-Map, but the script is a level script, so you need to change it using A-Map (recently), hex or ASM.

can someone tell me how to fix this problem: At the start my hack
when my pokemon faints before ive been to the first pokecentre the game crashes how do i fix this?

It appears that you have to start your hack from scratch again, sounds like a bad glitch.

I want to create a hack based around breeding, and the only way you can progress is to breed properly. i.e. to get to the next section you need to cut a tree, you must breed a poochyena and a magnamite to get "Steelpooch" which can learn cut.

- Where can I learn how to do this?

1. You can change what breeding group a Pokemon is under.
2. No...
3. I believe there are a few tools that can edit the breeding data, but then again, there is always hex or ASM.

hey evey on can any one tell me where i can find the sprite of the blue thing u sit on when ur surfing in ruby

The Wailmer looking object is one sprite with the trainer, many OW sprite editors should have this sprite. You can also use a tile editing tool.

how to add a new region to Firered?

If you mean a completely new region from scratch then you would have use ASM to do so.

i'm making a simple hack of pokemon gold to get to grips with editing it before i try something proper.
im using Pokémon Gold Sprite Editor v1.0 off the skeetendo site and i need to know how i can change the colours and make them stay changed, i can make the main character blue but it doesnt keep that change when i load the game, can anyone help here?

You would have to find the overworld palette using an emulator then find the palette in hex and change it in there.

You can add in more sprites using A-Map, bottom right hand corner. To edit there scripts, use a script editor or hex. Tools can be found in the toolbox.

well that kinda doesnt help....like i add sprites to the map and then how do i find them on the script editor cus the only scrip teditor i have is adavnce text?Well, if you want to change the text of the script, Advance Text is your only choice. If the text is not in Advance Text, then click on the "Search" option, and type in what the text is.

If you want to actually change the script's base, then you should use a scripting tool to "rip" the script, change it, and then insert it back again.

It seems I did have the patch. Here it is.still need to find which bits to edit in the hex editor to make Hiro sprite go blue... B8EE-B8F5 is the hex for the player's palette. Note that this changes the colors of the palette, not which palette is loaded -- thus any other character with the same palette would have their colors changed as well. There should be some way to change which palette is loaded; I'll see what I can find.

ok guys i need a few things now to help me progress with my crappy gold hack that im using to teach myself everything i need

1) how do i make it so when i change the colours only my main character goes blue (for example)? when i do it by hex editing the palette everything using the same red as the Hiro sprite becomes that colour e.g. mom, pokeballs (overworld), items,

2) how can i remove the animation from the title screen? i have removed the sparkles and the moving picture of hooh, but how do i stop it from making anything i put in its place move?

3) where can i get trainer battle customizer?

4) is there a patch to decompress more of the pokemon gold tileset (e.g. the bit where ho oh is) other than the bit that decompresses the title screen

1) how do i make it so when i change the colours only my main character goes blue (for example)? when i do it by hex editing the palette everything using the same red as the Hiro sprite becomes that colour e.g. mom, pokeballs (overworld), items,I've been looking but haven't found a way to load variable palettes yet. It's definitely possible though, Koolboyman's Pokemon Prism does it.3) where can i get trainer battle customizer?I don't know of one offhand. It's not hard to do it in a hex editor, though. Just find the trainer's name, and immediately following it will be a control code from 00 to 03. The structure depends on the control code:

[00]
[Level] [Pokemon] (up to 6 times)
[FF]

[01]
[Level] [Pokemon] [Attack1] [Attack2] [Attack3] [Attack4] (up to 6 times)
[FF]

[02]
[Level] [Pokemon] [Item] (up to 6 times)
[FF]

[03]
[Level] [Pokemon] [Item] [Attack1] [Attack2] [Attack3] [Attack4] (up to 6 times)
[FF]2) how can i remove the animation from the title screen? i have removed the sparkles and the moving picture of hooh, but how do i stop it from making anything i put in its place move?

4) is there a patch to decompress more of the pokemon gold tileset (e.g. the bit where ho oh is) other than the bit that decompresses the title screenIt's easiest to modify the title screen with assembly -- you can kill the sparkles by NOP'ing the pointers to the various parts of the title screen. If you don't know assembly then it might be more difficult.

I do most of my ASM hacking with a list of opcodes and a hex editor. A fairly good tutorial on the subject is ASMSchool (http://duo.gbadev.org/asmschool.html), and RHDN has a list of opcodes (http://www.romhacking.net/docs/285/). You'll also want the pandocs (http://nocash.emubase.de/pandocs.htm) as a reference.

I can only answer question 3.
There is a program called "PokeTronic".
Wtih this, you can create new Wild Battle Scripts, change the Event-Pokemons and some other options.

I would make a copy of your rom hack before I insert WildBattle Scripts with PokeTronic.

1. In unLZ there are the badge sprites, I don't remember the numbers. Search thoroughly.
2. You can hex edit or you can create a script in the beginning which enables you to get a pokemon.
3. Script or use "Poketronic" as said above.

It's not very often that I ask a question 'cause I know most things with hacking, but I need to ask this question or I won't be able to continue in my hack... and you know, that's not a good thing. My question is that I want to either add a map from scratch or change a map's position to another map.

For example, if I wanted to take the second map of Route 8 and then move it to Pallet Town so it is attached to it (and it becomes one of the maps of Pallet Town), how do I do it?

You can just export the tileset using Advance-Map then change it in an image editing program, then just import it back into the ROM using Advance-Map.

Can someone please give me a pic of Jirachi that can replace charizard @ da atrta of the game plz & thnk u i would like it to be in its original colors

You can possibly change the introduction using ASM, would be difficult though. But you can change the sprites in the introduction.

When editing trainers with PET, the attacks are really weird, how do I know which attack is which?

The problem with PET is that it does not have a "No Attack" option before "Pound", so you have to choose the one below to get the right move, otherwise you an use hex to change the moves also.

What pallete should i edit the Emerald logo in? Or am i supposed to edit it in black and white?

Black and White would be easier then the messed up colours, so you probably have to.

I've actually got a question, I don't know who might be able to answer me. I've been looking at red and Blue roms, and I'm wondering, how do pointers work with Red/Blue/Yellow? Do they have pointers?Red and Blue use GB pointers, the same kind as GSC (and all other GB/GBC games).

Pointers work the way they do because of the Game Boy's RAM structure, which ranges from 0000 to FFFF:
0000-3FFF ROM bank 00 (same as offsets 0000-3FFF)
4000-7FFF A variable ROM bank (can be any bank except 00)
8000-9FFF VRAM (tiles)
A000-BFFF external RAM (save file)
C000-CFFF WRAM0 (general work RAM)
D000-DFFF WRAM1 (more general work RAM)
E000-FDFF unused
FE00-FE9F OAM RAM (sprites)
FEA0-FEFF unused
FF00-FF7F I/O
FF80-FFFE HRAM (high RAM, has special function)
FFFF Interrupt Enable Register

As you can see, pointers don't actually point to the ROM, but to the location in RAM where the ROM has been copied. For three-byte pointers, the game takes the bank number and uses that to determine which bank to copy into location 4000.

thanks blazichu.

i have another problem now. i used zels tutorial to eddit the tms. when i look at them they say what i want but the description of the tm is that of the old moves and there not learnabe.

this is quite important otherwise i might have to quit my hack which ive been working on for 1 year now.

thanks in advance

Because the TM is counted as an item and not an attack, you'll have to hex edit the text for the attack, or use A-Text to edit it and then find the program Pokemon Amplifier to edit the TM/HM Compatibility for pokemon.

Red and Blue use GB pointers, the same kind as GSC (and all other GB/GBC games).

Hey, I'm new to this whole ROM hacking thing. I've been trying to figure out the tools myself, but there are a couple things I can't figure out. I tried searching around before asking but I couldn't find answers and this thread is, uh, rather large.

1) I find a lot of tools (A-tack, etc) don't seem to work with the FireRed ROM I have. Are some tools incompatible with it, or is it that my copy of FireRed is damaged?

2) Is there a way to increase the number of moves a pokemon can learn? Not at one time, but in total - say a pokemon learns 6 moves over the total course of its leveling up, can I increase that number? Perhaps by cannibalizing data from another pokemon if it's a memory issue?

That's all I've got for now... I'm sure I'll need more help later on... =/

Thanks. :)

Thanks. :)

1) Open up the place where A-Tack is. Open up the "ini" folder. There should be items in their called "AXVE" and "AXPE" and others. Check if there is one called "BPRE". If there isn't, here's the problem.
Create a file call "BPRE.ini" and open that .ini file you just created.
Paste this into and save.
[Nameoffset]
offset=2388129

[Dataoffset]
offset=2427908
That'll fix A-tack.

If that isn't the problem, I'd probably need some more info about the problem.

2) Yes, either do it in hex or you can use Darthatron's Program PEP. There aren't any tutorials on doing it through hex, but you can look find tutorials on how to edit movesets in red/blue/Gold/Silver/Crystal (which is pretty similiar to GBA moveset layout.) and then find something on repointing stuff in GBA games. With PEP, it supports the repointing of movesets, so all you'd really have to do is learn something about repointing data in a GBA Rom.

If you need more info, just ask another question.

I'm having some trouble. (I'm slowly going mad trying to find a way to edit and insert pokemon sprites in Fire Red!)

After much searching on google I was only able to find one download link for PokePic. It was version 1.0. Is this the latest version? Is it supposed to work with Fire Red and Leaf Green? Because it just won't load either of those ROMs, I don't even get an error message - just nothing! They're working ROMs too, they're not buggy or broken. Works perfectly fine with Ruby and Sapphire, but I don't want to hack those games.

What I want to do is edit the pokemon sprites and use my own ones for some of my own original pokemon inserted into the ROMs using Pokemon Editor Pro. I read up and apparently PokePic does this, but are there any alternatives? I haven't had any luck searching for them...

Oh, I tried getting Elitemap, but it had the same version of PokePic. I'd seen people say RS Ball might work but it turned out to be a trojan. >.< Also tried that unLZ thing but every sprite is really messed up looking.

The best way for you to edit PKMN sprites is using Unlz-GBA...
There are tutorials in the Documents and Tutorials (including my tutorial)...

Also, the pkmn in Unlz-GBA are around 550-1200 (ruby) and 650-1400(firered)...

Oh, and try not to hack LeafGreen for it's not a very stable ROM to hack.

However when I was testing it, I encountered it in the grass, and the sprite was just all black except for the highlights.

I'm absolutely baffled and have no idea what could be the problem. Does anybody recognise this problem or know how it can be fixed? Thanks.

Some times the colours can get all messed up. you have to make sure it is exported with the right number of colours from your graphics application before inserting it into your rom, iv not done much GBA stuff, but I think a Pokemon can have 16 colours, in which one would be black and one would be white.

PokePic is designed for Ruby and Saphire. Your going to have to use unLZ for FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald.

I'm trying to edit Leaf Green with a cave in Pallet Town and still haven't been able to figure out warping to new maps. I'm not sure what order to do any of this. I was able to make a warp lead into the cave entrance but I couldn't get the warp out of it back to Pallet Town to work. I just got stuck in the cave. I also couldn't name the inside without renaming Pallet Town.

I deleted that and tried again. This time I've only done the first step. This won't be my final hack. I'm just using this to learn how to get making new areas and warps to work.

I made Pallet Town bigger and made a cave over to the right.

I want to make a new map for the inside of the cave. The inside will be small, 10 x 8. It will lead to another area underground, but that will be made later. For now, I just want to be able to get the warps to work and not get stuck in the cave. I want to use Tileset 1: 0 and Tileset 2: 37 so it I can use some of the same tiles as Diglett's Cave (but not lead there).

Here is what the character should be able to do.

1. Go over to the cave in Pallet Town.
2. Walk up to the cave entrance and go inside.
3. That will use a warp to lead to the new map which should be named Pallet Cave.
4. The inside of Pallet Cave would (probably) be bank number 43 and map number 0.
5. While inside Pallet Cave, the character should then be able to go down and out through a warp that leads back outside and end up standing in Pallet Town just outside the entrance to the cave.

I am using AdvanceMap. I also have Advance Text, but I don't know if I need that for naming new areas without renaming current areas.

Can someone explain how to do this and the order it needs to be done? I need to know the details about how to do this and not just something like "click on OK on whatever pops up". I need to know what I should be seeing to make sure I'm doing this correctly and that the programs and ROM I'm using are not defective.

So far, what I've found on these boards seems to be more for people who already have some experience with editing ROMs. I'm looking for detailed help for those of us who are just starting out. I'm not asking anyone to make this hack for me, I'm looking for instructions that I can understand and use.

Another question ^_^;

So... I'm trying to edit some of my own pokemon into the game. Ok, not really serious for the final completed hack but just for practice so I know what I'm doing.I'm using Pokemon Editor Pro. because its the only tool I can find that will edit the attacks a pokemon has where the attack names are not in Spanish.

Ok, so I editec the attacks, saved, tested, worked fine. Then I made a second new pokemon, not next but just after the next place in the pokemon list from the previous pokemon I'd created. I gave it its new attacks, saved, tested, worked fine. But here's the thing - When I went to the first pokemon I'd made, many of its attacks had been overwritten for some reason, just with the attacks I gave my second pokemon. (and when I try to correct it the other pokemon's attacks are overwritten - so I can't edit one without the other getting messed up)

I thought maybe it was because the default offsets for the attack tables overlapped so I got a hex editor so I could find empty offsets and give the attack tables very different offsets - but the exact same problem persisted, so I know it isn't to do with that.

Does anyone know where I'm going wrong?

I helped Darthatron out with the moveset data in PEP. I know the problem. Its because of the way the attacks are set up. Around the "?" pokemon, the moveset data goes like this.
FF 2D 02 FF 2D 02 FF 2D 02 FF 2D 02.... etc.
This just means that the data for each "?" pokemon, there is only space for one attack. So when you change/add attacks for the "?" pokemon it just overwrites the other attacks.
To fix this, we have the possibliity within the program to repoint the data. This is something that other programs don't offer. Open up your hex editor. In notepad (or in your head) add up the number of attacks that you plan on adding.
Now, here's how to figure out how much space you need.
((No. of attacks) * 2) + 2
That's how many bytes you need to find. Now search through the rom in a hex editor, for however many bytes are needed. Once you've found a location, write it down.
Now go back to PEP, and click on the "repoint" option. Paste/type in the destination and click save. Now you can freely add those attacks you wanted.
Hopefully you can understand it. And I know it's a bit of work, but unless you want to do it all in hex, this is probably the easiest way.

Thanks for the in-depth reply. :) I'm a little confused though... I'm not really all that great with a hex editor and to be honest I don't even know what a byte looks like.

Will I need a fire red tbl file? I can't seem to find one anywhere I've spent ages on google looking for one. Oh... blast... it keeps giving me an error report window whenever I try to open the ROM in Hexecute. Um... can't really look to see just now, my computer does this sometimes, but I'm pretty sure I don't really know what a byte looks like on the hex editor. What would I be looking for?

Also I can't find anything that says 'repoint' in PEP for some reason...

Nah it's okay.
1) No need for a table.
2) You just need to search for the calculated amount of bytes (((No. of attacks) * 2) + 2) worth of "FF".
3) Try XVI32. It doesn't support tables and it's pretty basic. I find it pretty easy to use.
4) It's not actually called repoint. It's called "offset", and it's within the attack table section.

If there's any need for more clarification, go ahead and ask.

I'm a semi-new ROM hacker, and am hitting a few snags on my hacking of Pkmn Gold
I am using Windhex and Goldmap 1.6

How would i repoint the whole gym leader to run a custom script. There is no free space around the Gym leader text, so currently I am unable to add more characters than originally there. What I want to be able to do is to have him run a script like a normal person. Is this possible, and if so, how?

Also, why is it that when i edit maps in Goldmap, random tiles will appear that i did not put in. I think it has something to do with events, but im not sure, and would like to remove these "stray" tiles if possible.

I have searched for an answer for this both on the forum search and on google, I haven't had any luck (I've seen lots of the same question but no answers).

I need to know how to edit a pokemon's cry so that all my fakemon in the game don't all sound like unown. I'm not too fussed if they have some other pokemon's cry - if creating an original one is not feasable - as long as they don't sound quite as monotonous.

Through searching I noticed people who asked were directed to pokecry, but now that I have it I have no clue how to use it, and again, there doesn't seem to be anything in the searches that help.

I would be very appreciative if anyone could tell me how its done.

1. Find the pointers of the old script, then in the bank there should be some space with [00] codes, add the new pointers replacing the old one to that blank space, then type in your script.

2. You can possibly remove those by repointing the tileset, but some might not be removes, such as the ones in your room (possibly needs to be removed in hex). You can always work around it by expanding the map or changing the starting location of the trainer.

I did do a search but as I said I couldn't find the answer anywhere, not on here and not on the internet either.

I take it there's a reference somewhere that will be able to tell me what the byte is for each pokemon and its cry (I'll have a look after college)? And I take it I then replace the byte for my fakemon's current cry with the one of the cry of... the pokemon... I want... to use...? O_o I'm a bit confused... but I'll give it a try... I just want to make sure I've got the instructions right before I go try it.

EDIT: I can't seem to figure out how to find the bytes of pokemon and their cries. I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to be doing really...

I'd assume so. All these ideas are just theoretical and may not work.
Adding types, shouldn't be too difficult. It should just be a simple repointing job. Getting the Type Strength/Weakness table and repointing it to empty space and adding some extra types at the end. I can do it in Red/Blue roms, I might try and do it in Fire Red. :\
Adding Pokemon, may be a little harder. I'd assume you'd have to repoint a lot of things, like the evolutions, the stats, the pokedex data and maybe some other things. Quite a lot more than adding types. I don't think anyone's done it yet, and I assume you meant with the question adding Pokemon and not just using the ?? pokemon. I don't know if I'll be trying this one. I don't think I could be bothered. :P

im not very sure if this question has been asked, but how do u change a starter pokemon (i no, easy answer, but i honestly have no clue) plzzzzzzz reply
You should really look around first. Go look here. Hackmew's Tools Factory (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=85025). Download A-Starter.

Sorry.... another question.

Blazichu gave me a possible solution to carry this out but I was unable to figure out how to do it. Quote by Blazichu:

Maybe find the byte of the Pokemon in hex, do a search. The change the byte to the byte you want it to sound like. Could be difficult to find though but worth it.

So... as much as I appreciate the advice I had no clue how to do it and wasn't able to find the required tutorials or help to do so. Is anyone able to elaborate on it, or offer alternative advice?

Thanks.

I have hex editor, the ROM, advance map and text… All I'm looking for is a program, presumably what you guys keep referring to as "script editor", where i can take my Fire_Red.gba file, open it, and look at the code directly.

I realize now that this is basic basic knowledge, so basic that I haven't found it answered anywhere. It's just assumed that we know it. But I don't…

So simply: what is the program called, where you take the .gba ROM, and see the script directly. Is there one? Or is Hex Workshop the only option.

I guess what I mean is…

Is there a tool (and if there is, please tell me the simple steps to take to do this…), where all I do is say File -> Open… select my rom.gba… and bam, there's the code? Full of letters and words, as opposed to a sea of hexadecimal…

I downloaded PokeScript. It didn't recognize my fire red rom. I'm too technologically illiterate to know what to do next.

Once I'm looking at code, I'm good to go… I just don't know how to get from:
1) Having an assortment of roms and tools and programs…
to…
2) Actually looking at code (that isn't hex… because Hex Workshop is the only thing that's worked for me)

EDIT: and heh… quite fairly, everyone assumes no one is stupid enough to need this question answered, so it seems to be NEVER mentioned in the tutorials. Unfortunately, I am indeed that stupid when it comes to computers.

EDIT 2: I have looked at the toolbox. It'll work wonders for me as soon as I figure this preliminary crap out. =P

It's impossible (well, mostly) to apply a patch to an existing Nintendo cartridge, because they aren't rewritable.

I also have some little questions - of which are mentioned in tutorials, and everyone just assumes you know what they are/how to do them but there aren't actually any explanations as to what they are/how to do them:

- What are pointerswhat does it mean to re-point?
- How do I 'read' the numbers and letters in a hex editor? (I only know how to find empty bytes, and I'm not even all that sure what a byte is despite finding a few vague explanations)
- How do I know what the bytes do/how do I find the correct locations for pokemon/moves/cries in a hex editor, assuming I need to do this?
- Is there any tutorials... anywhere... that offer the basics of what one needs to know in order to hack ROMs? I feel I'm fumbling in the dark, all tutorials I ever find assume you already know the basics.

1) Pointers is the hex that tells the game where to look within the rom. It differs from game to game, but I assume you're using the advanced gen Pokemon games. In hex they usually appear like this.
ef cd ab 08.
Which if you were to write it out normally, it would appear 08abcdef. And you would be able to search in your hex editor using the 'goto' function to get to that pointer. (Except you have to cut off the "08" and just use the "abcdef".

2) A byte is just how everything is stored. I'm not too sure how to explain it, but the way I see it is, that the meaning of the byte depends on what is around it.

3) There aren't too many hex editing tutorials anymore. People have just made tools for everything and no-one seems to learn the way to do it in hex anymore. You'd have to figure out the layout of what you're looking for to know what it is. For example, the moveset data appears, [Attack] [level * 2] [attack] [level * 2]... etc. and it just keeps repeating until it hits an FF which marks the end of the moveset.
If you go the tutorial section here, I've written a tutorial on hex editing in DP, most of what's there is set out in the same way in GBA Pokemon games.
There's also some other little hex editing tutorials in the Documents and tutorials section, you just have to look and not use Cheesepeow's reference because it doesn't contain all the tutorials.

4) Like I said above look, and don't just go to Cheesepeow's reference. Also don't limit yourself to just GBA tutorials. Gamefreak didn't change too much between each game, and things in Red/Blue tutorials are still pretty applicable to 3rd gen games.

Hopefully that answers the questions and I didn't just lose the point.

I don't think I can pass off my fusion hack with the name "RUBY VERSION", huh?

The problem with editing the text is that if I try to edit it even the slightest, it comes out with a white background and screwy colors. I've checked all the Ruby title screen topics, but none of them deal with editing the actual title of a Ruby hack.

Pardon my wall of text, I just really need a good answer. D:

3. I add wildbattle on a map the when i battle is done i walk 1 step it appear again
how to fix it????To answer these questions a little more effectively, here you are:

1. There is no way to do that. If you want to change the names of where the maps are on the region map, then you can use AdvanceMap 1.90, but there's no way to change how it looks without following Mastermind_X's tutorial.

2. I personally believe that Ruby is the best, because of its very bad graphics, that inspires you to change them. If you can't palette edit or are a novice and can hardly change tiles, then starting with FireRed is the best.

3. Well, this is a pretty easy question to answer: simply change the Encounter Ratio to a lower rate. The original FireRed's Encounter Ratio is originally 20, but I personally like to go a little lower, like 15-18.

Hope that helps. Oh, and sorry Sakujo. :x

Alright Rusticolus, the first ting I noticed is that you opened up the program. First wrong move lol...

You have to make sure your RBC file isnt saved as example.rbc.txt accidentally in notepad. Choose the dropdown that says text and make sure it's at "all files" when you save your script.

NEXT: go to your script, whether its on your desktop or whatever... And right click on it. There should be a "Compile" option. If there isnt, reinstall PkmAdv.exe and there will be. That will bring up your program.

Next, go to file in bufrite, and you should have destination now.

Next, click on the bottom scrip while holding down CTRL, and click the top script. All should be highlighted. Next click the Binoculars, and make sure FF is checked, and hit the Look button (flashlight button)

Choose an offset, such as 800000 for your first script, and make sure reserve isnt checked at the bottom, uncheck it and it will say assign. Click that.

Now it will close the sub-window, and will go back to Bufrite. Go to file and select burn, and it will write to the rom you chose in the Destination option earlier.

Next step is to go into advance map, choose the character you want to use that script, and go under events... just put $8000000 under their script section and save.

Hope that helped!

Now, can someone help me with MY script?

on the region map, then you can use AdvanceMap 1.90, but there's no way to change how it looks without following Mastermind_X's tutorial.

1.ok
2.do you know where can i find ROM BASES except Green charizard rombases in PHO
3. sorry its not the Encounter Ratio
EX: i copy LUGIA Scripts in FR i put in another map example in pallet town
then after i battle it the sprite is done then i walk 1 step its reappear....

Sorry for my bad english in my first question...

Sorry for my bad english in my first question...

Try phcompnay for the rom base. You need to set a flag whose number is assigned as the people ID for the Lugia.

Now onto my question. On a particular route in my hack when you finish a trainerbattle the OW of the trainer you just defeated turns in to black and white lines, and you lose control of the hero who just stands there and you are only able to move in a square around the hero. It is a FireRed rom.

and also where some of the tile animations are(doors and flowers)

Alright Rusticolus, the first ting I noticed is that you opened up the program. First wrong move lol...

You have to make sure your RBC file isnt saved as example.rbc.txt accidentally in notepad. Choose the dropdown that says text and make sure it's at "all files" when you save your script.

NEXT: go to your script, whether its on your desktop or whatever... And right click on it. There should be a "Compile" option. If there isnt, reinstall PkmAdv.exe and there will be. That will bring up your program.

Wait... rbc file?

I'm getting the impression I should have a script already, before I even begin to USE pokescript.

All I want is to be able to look at and change the coding that makes up the fire red rom directly, without necessarily using tools like advance mart. Is PokeScript the way to do that? Or is it just Hex...
If it IS PokeScript, where do I FIRST access that script? I bolded the part I'm referring to: I don't HAVE any script yet, that's what I'm trying to do, I'm trying to access the fire red script.

Thanks for your prolonged help though, Sakujo

Erm, I wouldnt know how to do it in Pkescript, but Hex seems to be the better way to go....

I suck at hex though.

I'm not sure that what you want to do is possible, as that would make the ROM very unstable, but I'm not much of an expert at ROM sizes and stuff like that, just the inner ROM itself and editing it. Sorry.

This might look as spam... how do you extend a rom i.e make a 16mb rom 32mb for more space..... i need this for a rom hack i am working on
You can't. Unless you want to try and change the way the pointer system works, you won't be able to do this. If you don't know, the pointers that point to where everything is, can only use a 4 byte pointer, which works like this 08xxxxxx, and if you extend beyond the end of the rom (0xFFFFFF), you probably won't be able to point to anything.
Wait... rbc file?

Try using Scriptdec, or get a copy of XSE for the decompiling of scripts. Pokescript supposedly has the functionality to decompile scripts, but no-one seems to know how to use it.
OR you could try and learn to script in hex:P.

EDIT: Just in case, you don't understand, decompiling scripts just means viewing the scripts already in the rom.

I know this has most definetally been asked before, but the search function is being extremely slow, and I think just asking this would be faster than combing the whole forum, but:

What is the index of the male trainer back sprites in unLZ-GBA for FireRed?
I can find the palette on my own, that's the easy part ;D

Aaaah… okay… thanks both of you. I had a feeling that hex was the way to go.
I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a more user-friendly way to do it before I jump in the deep end and begin picking up hex.
Anyway… off to the hex tutorials I go…

Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure that it's possible to change the text in FireRed, because it is not supported.

They're not supported in Fonted, but they are in the rom of course.
You just have to search in Tilemolester, tlp, etc. Remember it's 4 colours

you mean each letter has 4 colors even if you import the text's original pallete?

I've a little question.

When I edit my Roms, I've to see what the results are. So I do "New Game". But now I'm a bit further in the with hacking, so that "New Game" isn't so handy anymore.

Are there any other ways to check your results quickly??

okay, I have a few problems with some tools. I tried searching but could not find answers to these problems.
1. With Overworld Editor, im editing sprites on FR. When I go to import a pallete from another sprite, not only does it change that sprite, but several others as well. Now Prof. Oak has yellow hair, am I doing anything wrong?
2. I also need to change in battle sprites for the gym leaders. Im using PET to do this, the file type that the sprites are currently saved under won't allow me to use certain colors in MS paint, so I switched it to PNG which worked fine. Until PET didn't recognize the file and I had to convert the PNG back to a bitmap which screwed all the colors up again. Is there a way to allow PET to recognize PNG files or a way to fix the color problem with bitmaps?
3. Finally, Im trying to add music to my hack. I was able to convert the midi file to .s, but when I try to load my ROM in Sappy, it says "Sappy has stopped working" and closes itself. Is there any possible way to fix this.
sorry for the bother, but I really have my heart set on completing this hack. if you have any information please feel free to share. and im not in any hurry either, so take you're time. thank you!

Ok, here is my simple(?) question.

I am using advance text and advance map.

I want to make a signpost that says something.

I know you have to make a signpost, then take the offset and put it in advance text, BUT! I don't know where to get the offset.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! D:

Also, I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I don't want to look through all of the pages...

Well, I can help you with #1 and 2: The palletes are shared between some sprites, so changing one will change all others that share it. For example, the Strength rock and the hiker in FR share the same palette, and the male protagonist and the emotion bubbles share the same palette. It's less common for non-overworlds to share palettes, but they do. Make sure your colors will work for any sprites that share the palette.

You should try Advance-map. Go to Events view. Add a signpost-event. And give it the offset. Then it should work fine!

A Few Quick Questions:
1) Occasioanlly I get a problem where I can't remove connections. What is the reason for this and how can I fix it?
2) How do you change the text that is there at the start of every 'New Game' on Fire Red and Leaf Green? I'm talking about 'Welcome to the World of Pokemon' stuff which is on a Pikachu decorated notepad.
3) How do you edit the sr=tart up text? (2004 Productions Nintendo and the sorts)

Thanks!

OK, here's my question:

How do you compile a script using ScriptEd? I've tried putting ScriptEd, my script and the rom in the same directory and when I click on compile, it just gives me this error:
Run-time error '53':

File not found

I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

2) How do you change the text that is there at the start of every 'New Game' on Fire Red and Leaf Green? I'm talking about 'Welcome to the World of Pokemon' stuff which is on a Pikachu decorated notepad.
Use Advance-Text.
