ok dude i got it. BUT ITS SO SLOW can any1 help it get faster. its the same with my no$gba emulater.
when i use VBA i get GBA rom LAG
when i use no$gba i get NDS LAG. Can some1 plz help?
Try clicking on in VBA: Video>VSync, also Emulator>Syncronise.

So, sorry to annoy but, does anyone know how to temporarily change the sprite of the player character?
was looking back here for new questions when i saw your post
when the player rides a bike they have a different sprite
so if you scrap the bike (no pun intended) you could have the disguise :)
but it would probably have to be a ninja or something because i dont know if you can remove the increased movement speed :D
the only problem then would be making wherever you wanna use it an area where the bike is allowed :)

I thought that the pokemon needed a size of 64X64 but even then some are to big
so probably they need a smaller size at least the pokemon itself right?
Can somone tell me the Exact size the pokemon can be in order to load them without trouble into fire red?

im not sure because im not a hacker on GBA but i know you get errors sometimes when trying to insert things with too many colours :)

the sprite is me and the pokemon pics are my current team but it was the original non hacked game but after i posted i figured well ill try advanced maps and sure enough it helped me fix it all though there is no more fog in the game or underwater effects but ill live

Under normal scripting(pokescript) circumstances, can it be possible to insert secret bases in fr/lg games?
It would be nice to see how the script is but this isn't a request thread.
also whenever i insert an aron revamp into a game with Unlz-GBA the aron always appears as a glitchy mess on the bottom part.
can anyone tell me why this happens because i check all 4 boxes and change the number.

How can you edit a trainer sprite in Ruby (and insert its colors as well) in unLZ without screwing up every trainer sprite?
The problem is that every trainer sprite has the same palette offset: 00E59FD8
I realized that Free Space Finder wouldn't be of help because it just ruins all the trainer sprite palettes. >_<

You can use unLZ to import trainer sprites and other sprites in the game.
unLZ is foundhere (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=85025)
You should use Xeon's overworld editor to edit and insert Overworlds, as mentioned above.

Pictures are 64 x 64, but they need to have the 16 colours that the previous sprite had. Otherwise you need to edit the colours.

2. You can do that using A-Text using the search feature or in a hex editor.

Maybe you should consider using the light fog, instead of the heavy one.

Hello there! I've been into this for about 3 days now, I guess you can say I learn fast, even though I still don't even have the basics down yet. I do know how to map edit, and do all of that, and I mindlessly downloaded a **** load of programs from this site, aswell as some from others. I stumbled on this site from google, after looking at youtube videos of some program called 'Advance Map'. I learned the maker of Advance Map came here, so I came here to check it out. I gotta say, this stuff is really impressive, but I can't say I'm exactly familiar with anything so! Enough about me, as if anyone here cares about my background and why I came here. I lurked around a little bit and I am good with forums usually, so I came to this thread after looking around abit.
1. How do you edit the actual Pokemon images, as well as names and things like that?
2. I was working with Trainer Edit, and then PET, and then I tried my hand at PokeScript through a tutorial on scripting by Thethethethe, where I just pasted an example script and edited it to fit my scenario, which was fighting Prof. Oak in a cave near pallet town after the league. I haven't figured out how to make the cave inaccessible until then, and I tried applying the Trainer ID to him, but to my dismay, the wild Pokemon just turned into '?' symbols, leveled 1. I pressed 'A' on Oak, and nothing happened. I checked trainer in Advance Map, I put in the Trainer ID, I don't know what I'm supposed to do. SO THE QUESTION IS, HOW DO YOU MAKE A CAVE INACCESSIBLE UNTIL AFTER YOU DEFEATED THE POKEMON LEAGUE, AND HOW DO YOU MAKE A NEW SPRITE A TRAINER?
3. How do you get those nice tiles I've seen in so many Hacks? I'm stuck with some basic ones from Fire Red, and I wanna make it look nicer.
4. I got Advance Text, and I made it the script program for Advance Map. I opened it, and it said that the game didn't have an INI file. Meaning I could not edit the text in the game, like I wanted. I don't know how to fix this.
5. Like number one, how can you edit the In Battle Trainer, I edited the out of battle sprites but in battle, they're different.

You have to change the palette, it's pretty simple, just look for a tutorial in the Documents/Tutorial Section. :)

1. How do you insert tiles (like D/P) into palettes (like Firered/Leafgreen)
2. How do you copy backsprites and overworlds and make them so you can use them?

So, is it possible to change the maps in the Union Room? If it is, you could, hypothetically, make an outdoor 'Linked' area or even put warps and connections in. You could create a multiplayer island or region, could it be done?

6. I tried to open a ROM in Pokepic which was a part of the EliteMap Package, but nothing came up. I opened 3 different roms, nothing came up. Help?

1. You can edit the images with unLZ GBA (Elite Map), the names with N-E-A, and the moves with any of the Pokémon Editors. Look for them in the Toolbox or the Tools Resource thread.
2. a) You'll need to learn scripting to do that, but if you're using FR, you could just copy the Person ID of the guy blocking the entrance to the cave where Mewtwo is.
b) In trainer editors there are empty trainer slots. Edit one of them and make a proper trainer, and put the number of that trainer slot as the trainer ID in Advance Map.
3. Some people make their own tiles, and some use tiles made by other people that are uploaded in ROM hacking sites and can be used by anyone as long as they give credit.
4. Create a new INI file. You'll just have to search for the text you want to edit before you edit it.
5. In-battle sprites can be edited with unLZ GBA.

Okay I opened unLZ GBA, and I just get a bunch of random oddly colored from what I assume are tiles, and I try to import an image but it isn't a PNG so it doesnt work, but I did to the GFX Dump with GS Ball. Tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Also, I searched for text in Fire Red, the Controls for example, named them, and tried editing them but they stayed the same on the game.

I am a beginning hacker and I've seen this problem in several hacks done by people, but I'm curious to know whether or not it's possible to prevent an arrow from appearing in front of the character in some glitchy areas.

On top of the one I made 2 posts ago, how do you make it so the ROM doesn't stop working after you beat the Elite 4? I beat the Elite 4 earlier today and now I can't play again, it really bugged me.

1.- Can i transfer sprites from red/blue to Yellow? (cuz i want to change ome sprites ex: R/B alakazam to yellow, R/B Mewwo to Yellow)
2.- Is the Pokemon´s color affected by this?

Well now I found a full INI file for Fire Red, and I'm trying to edit the script itself. I have PokeScript, and I read up on thethethethe's tutorial a few times. I then copied one of his scripts, followed the instructions, edited some of the details to my liking, and I still got nowhere. I made a new sprite in AdvanceMap, assigned the person ID, and to my dismay, when I went and pressed A on the charecter, every time, the game just froze. I have tried it with 2 Different scenarios, 'GivePokemon', as well as 'WildPokemon'
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please help?

First of all get your keyboard fixed then dont click on bold and underlined, and people will answer when they are ready not when you want them too. Also do what this thread says to do first (SEARCH BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION) as this has been covered before, but I will answer part of it.
Well first you need to extract the tilesets your self from a D/P game.
Then put them into an existing FR tileset BMP. Then search this thread for how to insert it(iv posted a thing about a week ago here).

No. However, you can edit the Old Man script if you find the offsets, Someone posted them for FR the other day. :)

So, is it possible to change the maps in the Union Room? If it is, you could, hypothetically, make an outdoor 'Linked' area or even put warps and connections in. You could create a multiplayer island or region, could it be done?
I think there is some kind of script that limits that but havent looked

Try.. changing the event number, could be somethign like in Pallet town, when a NPC has a certain event number it puts the NPC in a random place.

i dont' think there are any tools for doing it, you'll have to use a hex editor like you do for a lot of things in Gold :)

Remove all the Map Scripts. That could be a Map with a Map Script, this could easily change the location of Sprites and stuff, on the Map... So remove all of them. :)

ok im going to assume this is the second house in pallete town (garys house) if your using a.map 1.9 then go to header and where itt says level script click the drop box and clecik no scripts and save it

Do you actually mean what trainer is what? You can add in new battles with trainers from groups, but changing a trainer to a different type like, for example a bug catcher to a fire breather is a lot more difficult, I haven't tried to do that as of yet, might either require ASM or just need a change a specific code or you might have to try and add in new trainer battles.

well, I already did everything I knew before I posted my question here though... I already tried those, Chistos.., yet, no luck... -__-
Oh well, no biggy, I can let it pass. they're just useless sprites to add in the events like flowers in the garden that blooms to beautify the settings...

There is a very easy solution to this. Go on google and search the name of the missing file and download it. Remember to put the file in P-Mart. Hopefully, it should then work.

1) the black writing screen with Nintendo, Gamefreak and Creatures or w/e it is right when you start up
and

Hej, Now I'm a bit back in modding... But I need to ask about a bug i have been getting the last days... It's that the game restart when i walk at some point of SS-Anne, Not all, but just some different places evey time. Like some times, it's when i walk out of a room, or walk at a special point... It's the same in the rom, but evey time I take a new rom, and do the smallest change in it, then it don't work..?
With restart I mean show the nitendo Logos, and Intro Stuff, and then I can Chose New game, or load...
There is not a script there or any thing...

Sounds like something is causing a fatal error
when that happens on G/S you get a wierd palette aswell :)

maybe if you just keep going and work out what colours you get in game for the colour in the editor then you can do it using the editor?

If you want to change the movements that he makes then you need to use a hex editor and manually edit the script to your likings.
It would be easier to make your own script.

Well what exactly would I look for in the Hex Editor that dictates Oak's movement?
If it's easier, how would I create a new script for him? I know how to assign it in advanced map, but I don't see how making a whole new script in a hex editor would be easier than editing one, unless there is a tool for that...?

That's Will, from the Elite Four. If you want to overwrite a sprite you can probably replace Oak instead.

Sorry, that's not currently possible with what we have learned so far. It would require repointing the offset so you could add more, and since we don't know how to read pointers, it's not possible. :(

I manage to make a script on Notepad and save it.. Then, when I click 'compile' it openes up Pokescript but not the other box with the offsets. Can someone help me?

How do you insert new tiles into Advance Map Editor(Also, can you download them or do you have to make them?If you have to make them, how would you do it exactly?)? I read the tutorial, but when I edited my palette just by using a paintbrush, I saved it, but when it said to load it, it only showed the original palette file...why is that happening?

Im looking for some decent tools that DO NOT come with EliteMap that do the following
edit pokemon backsprites and normal sprites.
edit pokemon images (the small sprite when they are in ur bag or pc)
edit trainer normal and backsprites
and a decent trainer editor, PET always screws up and that new trainer editor doesnt edit LeafGreen.
oh and if anyone is going to refer to a previous post that asked one of these same questions then could they please leave the page number the post was on, i dont want to have to search through 200+ pages of posts.

Find a list of opcodes, and start disassembling a section of ROM. From there you'll be able to figure it out.

Well it depends on where busted 101 is from (other than "somewhere..."). Here in spain virtual copies of intellectual work are legal if you have a physical copy.
Anyway, it's not like busted101 or anyone is gonna get busted for this (lol lame pun) or you're hurting nintendo, but that's why we hackers release hacks in patches (not to trap n00bs)

use free space finder to find free space. give unlzgba the number it comes up with in the image offset field. check automatically fix pointers.

My Questions.....
1.I know this has probably been asked before, but I keep searching and can't find an ips patcher that actually does something. Could someone direct me to a good download site? I don't know why I cant' find a good windows ips patcher lol...
2.How do you insert new tiles? I read the tut on here, but it didn't work, or I wasn't doing something right....Can someone explain to me how to do this?(also it'd be to know how to make your own tiles too).
3.How do you get PoketScript to work? I can download it, but if I was to compile a script example I found, it wouldn't let me compile it.When I right click it, there is no compile option...what do I do to fix that?(also, I need basic help in that field anyway, but you do do all the script on a notepad right? Do you have to save the file as anything special other than just .txt for it to compile or work?).
4.Is there a way, when editing, to delete a map using advance map, instead of replacing it, or do you have to replace it and it can't be deleted?

About a week ago, I added new sprites to replace Bulbasaur and Charmander. I then spent time making maps and editing text and things. Whenever I tried to pick the starter from the Pokeball, it would freeze up when it says, "This Pokemon is really quite energetic!" It does not crash when I choose the Unedited sprite of Squirtle, but it will when the rival chooses his starter. I made sure not to write a sprite to the game unless the size was smaller The programs I have used were Unlz-GBA, Poketronic, Advanced Text, Trainer Edit, and Advanced Map. Is there anyway to fix this, or will I have to redo 10 hours of work?

1) The person
2) You must replace an existing one, simply use UNLZ to put it into the rom and then use RS Ball to change the offsets of the pallete and sprite.
3) Use Advance-Text and search for that text.
Could somone show me a simple wild battle script toutorial? I tried some others on Pokecommunity but none of them work..

Im looking for some decent tools that DO NOT come with EliteMap that do the following
edit pokemon backsprites and normal sprites.
edit pokemon images (the small sprite when they are in ur bag or pc)
edit trainer normal and backsprites
and a decent trainer editor, PET always screws up and that new trainer editor doesnt edit LeafGreen.
oh and if anyone is going to refer to a previous post that asked one of these same questions then could they please leave the page number the post was on, i dont want to have to search through 200+ pages of posts.

I'm pretty sure you can't add but you can replace some of the empty ones and change their size. Although be aware that there are a limited number of palletes when changing colours.

1.I know this has probably been asked before, but I keep searching and can't find an ips patcher that actually does something. Could someone direct me to a good download site? I don't know why I cant' find a good windows ips patcher lol...

Now I have a question, how do you remove the image that comes up before you go into silph co in Fire red? Its like the thing that comes up in viridian forest, the powerplant, some caves... I need to get rid of that, at least for ONE of my maps.

About a week ago, I added new sprites to replace Bulbasaur and Charmander. I then spent time making maps and editing text and things. Just replace that script all together, it definitely won't take 10 hours so its the easiest solution, if you want to make a hack scripting is very important.
If its a problem with the image then you might have to repoint the image and/or pallete data. To check if it is the image try using RS Ball to open that image and if it crashes than you'll have to repoint the data.

I didn't edit anything, I was satisfied with how it looked, and I saved it as a PNG in paint, just so that I would be following the tutorial's steps. I opened it in IfranView, and decreased the color depth to 16 Colors (4 BPP), and supposedly that should have made it "Indexed". I then edited the background to make it transparent, and saved it. It should have been indexed, right?

okwhen using YAPE and make a d/p poke evolve to another the level shifts..Like Shinx (Volbeat) evolves at Lv 15 into luxio (whiscash) but when i get luxio its at lv 12...the same sota thing happened with EPR by Datharon..but it didnt de-level..it just stayed at 14 until it was leveled up again but as a luxio
edit: nvm...i just changed its growth rate to match Shinx's it works....but unfortuanately i accidently revealed another d.p poke (not hat hard to find out) Luxio is in everyone! click my sig to see the thread

Umm first place a compressed tileset (not too compressed) into the ROM, blank space. Then find the map pointers, the tileset pointers are three bytes. The redirect the pointers so that they can read your new tileset.

They are all compressed, so you would have to find the sprites in TLP or Tile Molester, then find the pointers. Then change the pointers to the new location of your new Pokemon, it has to be compressed, only slightly otherwise it will not work.

It's not as simple as it is with the advance gen games.

I haven't tried the way Blazichu said, but it would probably be worth trying aswell.

i don't know if this idea will work but this is how i do it
open unzl then go to the Pokemon you wanted to replace then save it[png]
open you drawing with MS Paint then do "Edit > Select All" then do "Edit > Copy"
open the image you save earlier [he Pokemon you wanted to replace] the do "Edit > Paste"
then save it and load it in Unlz

For an image to be indexed, it must be saved at 256 color depth and as a png, but only contain 16 colors total.

Edit the shiny images, but keep the shiny colors. When they appear in the game they'll have the same colors the battle sprite has.

Also, seeing as I have clearly no skill in the form of pokemon hacking, I'm coming to you guys AGAIN with another problem.
See, I put in the pokemon I wanted over ratatta. The image, however, in the game still has the color background, and has like a glitchy look to the bottom part of the image.

The image has to have the same dimensions as the one you're replacing, and the same or less amount of pixels that are used for the pokémon except for the background. This is what causes the glitchy stuff at the bottom of the image.
Also, in unLZ GBA, you can see the pokémon's palette. The color in the left should be used for the background, if you use any other color, it won't be transparent but it will look like the pokémon in your screenshot.

Yes, you would, or you could remove some pixels from the image so that it'll be smaller.

If you edit the colors of the backsprite image, which has the shiny palette, that will change the shiny front sprite in the game, too. If you change the colors of the front sprite in unLZ, they'll be the same in the backsprite.

I edited a trainer using PET's revenge and one of his pokemon knows a ridiculous attack and another is the wrong pokemon. I looked at it in trainer edit too and everything looked normal. How do I get them to have the correct attacks and pokemon?

HI, Im a n00b and tried searching for my question but i didnt find it so im gunna ask even tho its probly n there sumewhere,ok when I try to open adv. map and stuff and i try and load my fire red rom it says like the ini. files have to be in the ini folder and it says i need to save it as a .gba file when its a .zip file, so how do I save it as a .gba file?
EDIT: never mind i figured out how too make it a .gba file but now it ses there is no map header on the file and that the .ini files need to be in the ini folder

You can use tilemolestor...
Try browsing the offsets. You should find it.

You can't change the rivals name, because it's already chosen by the player in the intro.
Not even with a-text. But you can use PET to make a custom name, and put him as your rival.

To expand a ROM a good hex editor is more than enough. Besides, expanding the ROM is pretty useless since you wouldn't able to use the data on the expanded section. Pointers (I guess you're talking about a GBA ROM) are made up by 4 bytes: 3 of them are the offsets, the other one is the memory bank. Using 3 bytes you can access anything between 0x000000 and 0xFFFFFF.

This is really weird. Listen up, guys.
I tried to put a Ninja Kirby sprite into Sapphire, replacing Farfetch'D. The first time it let me go, but then it was ruined the second time! I tried importing the image again, but it said "Compressed size is 25C. Which is too big. Aborting" I shrinked it, AND it is 16 colors! What is wrong?

This has probably been asked before, but, I'll ask anyway... Okay, I got some advice to get XSE for script editing. It seemed really good at first, but then when I tried to compile an example script, it says:Error 13 'Type mismatch (on the file I have it on) on line 2

Well, I'm a noob at scripting, but is the Poketscript the same format as XSE? I used Poketscript commands in it lol. Here is the commands I used:

Am I doing something wrong?? Well..what I really need is someone to teach me this, or lead me to a good tutorial lol. I'll really appreciatte an answer, thank you for reading this post. :D

All you have to do is find free space, check automatically fix pointers, and change the image offset to the offset of free space.

You can edit the front and back sprites using this program here:

As for the Icon sprites you can edit them in Tile Layer Pro(TLP):

When using TLP go to 8EABE then click on 'Pallet>Load' and load the TLP pallet file iv attached to this post, this will make it easier to see what you are working with.

Thank you for the programs! But, I am having trouble using them.. The first tool is in German and I don't understnad how to use it.. Also, the other tool is just confusing.. Could someone please give me a quick guide or refrence to how to use them?

Thats quite alright, though some times you jsut have to try things through trial and error XD
I am now writting a full tutorial for Agixp, I will post it soon.

How? It says Free Space Finder Alt + F, but it's grayed out. It won't do anything lol. How do I find space? Sorry for all the noob questions, but I just have no idea lol....

Try putting free space finder's exe in the same folder as XSE. you can find it in the toolbox section if you don't have it already. I believe that is what the instruction in another thread said to do.

Or you can open your rom in a hex editor, select goto offset, type in 800000 and scroll down until you see a lot of FF, then use the first FF as your offset. If you a need a pic, I can give you one.

Nevermind that, but if you followed that attack "adding" tutorial you'll be messing up some Pokemon's stats (like Bulbasaur at least), because where the attacks stats end, the Pokemon's stats start (0x383DE).

Damn! I had a couple of new maps in as well! Is there any way for me to add new attacks without ruining Bulbasaur?

To the best of my knowledge, there's no tutorial that is just on repointing the actual attack data, but I could point you to a tutorial on repointing text by Coolboyman. GB Pointers (http://www.zophar.net/tech/files/gbpointers.txt)
You could apply knowledge from this to the attacks.
