Missing File and i have deleted the programme already
Save all the hassle and just get a Firered table file. Then get Translhexation.
Load your ROM into Translahexation and go through the menus 'script> open thingy table', and open the table file. Then do a search for the Trainers name.

i made it with paint then i wanted to make it into the rom with unLZ
after i saved it the rom always crashes when i want to look on the map
can anyone help me?

Hey. I got a question. How do you take away the pokeball from the backsprite of the trainer? I know how to take away the trainer picture with UNLZ-GBA, but the ball still comes out..

I am using RS Ball to edit a trainer sprite (ANNE & MEG) and I'm wanting to know how I can replace them with a custom sprite. I have already made the sprite with the same pallette as the original. When I go to Bitmap Import, type in the name of my file (poke.bmp), and click Import bitmap, nothing happens. Can anyone help me with this problem?

COM: Use PokePic (or an internet source) to locate a pokemon with similar colors as your fakemon. On PokePic, export that sprite and open it with paint. In a seperate Paint window, open your fakemon file. Copy and paste it to the exported sprite, but be sure that it's not larger than the display on the exported sprite. Make sure to keep the transparent color (the block around the Pokemon) in your background. Save the exported sprite (which is now your sprite), then import it into PokePic under the same Pokemon exported. You should now have a working sprite. To make it a starter, though, you need another hacking program that edits the starters. I hope I helped.

How do I edit what trainers say before & after battle on Sapphire? Also, how do I make it so that the Anne & Meg overworlds are just 1 overworld? (It is Anne & Meg's speech that I want to change.)

COM, I tried RedYoshi's tutorial several times now and I got no problems, however, I didn't use PokePic, instead, I used Unlz-GBA...
KougaWolf, why not try using Advance Text and replace one of the twins with a different person and remove the other one..? :\

APE is a colour editor, so it will be at a different offset to his sprite. His palette is at 0x39E414.

I believe there is an option to define a script editor (lost my A-Map 1.9 due to file crash). The other option would be to find the script in hex then put in the offset where the person's old offset was.

Not specifically for it, no, but there is something called SoundEdit under Presea's Tools (GSC section), but I have no idea what it does exactly, it's got German text.
There's the Pan Docs (http://nocash.emubase.de/pandocs.htm) you could look at, for some technical GameBoy stuff, including sound. And there's a ROM Map (http://www.datacrystal.org/wiki/Pokemon_Red/Blue:ROM_map) on Data Crystal, which shows where the pointers to music is stored and a few exact locations, if you can't be bothered to work them out.

Yeah, that's a little problem in the program...
Try deleting all the wraps and then making them one-by-one. That's how I got rid of that problem.
For the second question, you can use unLZ to change the pokemon backsprites and frontsprites and you can use Xeon's OW editor for the Overworld editing stuff. You can find some tutorials in the Tutorial section.

I was going to change some Pokemon sprites using HackunLZ, but when I load the ROM it says looking for unlZZZ(or something) compressed data this may take awhile.
So, all that I see is really messed up pictures with random colors everywhere. How do I make the Pokemon actually appear so I can save them and edit them, or do I just wait?

did you change which warp that door leads to?
Just change where that warp leads to (on both sides of the door) and it will be fixed.

Minisprites, you mean icons in the "Pokémon Menu"? There is a tool called Icon-Ed. (it should work but I haven't used it yet)
And as for backsprites and front sprites, the is a group of tools which are needed but there should be some tutorials in the tutorial section - somewhere in there called "Adding Pokémon sprites" or "Editing/Adding Pokémon" or similar?

I have been trying my best to delete the events in Pallet Town and have Professor Oak within the Pokemon Lab, say "Ash, sorry. I guess the early bird gets the worm. Wait! I have one pokemon left." And Prof. Oak gives Ash a Pikachu. I know how to do the givepokemon script. I just want to be able to do that specific script with one pokeball on the table. When I do grab the pokeball, Gary comes out of nowhere to battle me within the lab. I have the givepokemon script working, but I can't get to view the Pokemon Tab within the start menu until I get a starter pokemon from Oak. Please someone help me.

You could either change it's colours to a different colour in the tileset, or you could change the palettes of the other tilesets, by changing the pointer to make it another palette, then add in the palettes manually. Cause so far I don't think there is a working palette changer from my experiences. Though I think someone might correct me on this.

before you insert it, open your rom with SFS then search for space and copy the offset, then go back to unzl, load your raw[nevermind what number is it] then hit write to rom then uncheck auto abord and fix poiner and enter the your offset in the image offset
open you rom with hex editor, search for "9c083f08", after you found it, reveres the offset that you have then replace it to 9c083f08

The trainer sprite on the card is the same you see in battle. You can change that using Unlz. I don't have the numbers but there is a tutorial on this site so you can look in document and tutorials section. There is also a tutorial on how to change the title screen which requires Unlz and maybe APE if u go advanced. You can look for an Ini on the resource page or on google. If you have no luck plz pm me. But search first!

Can someone please help me. I am working on a hack for Leaf Green, and was wondering if some of the things I need help on is even possible because I searched everywhere and couldn't find a single post on any of this.

My question:
Pokemon GSC - Can I change the gender of the Blackthorn City trade pokemon (the girl who says: Do you have a "Xpokemon" (female), do you wanna trade it for my "Xpokemon"?)
I want it to be a normal trade, to trade any pokemon with her.

Can someone please help me. I am working on a hack for Leaf Green, and was wondering if some of the things I need help on is even possible because I searched everywhere and couldn't find a single post on any of this.

The players sprites can be edit from unLZ-GBA, the back pictures are towards the end of a tile editor, such as TLP or Tile Molester. You can add in OW sprites using a tile editor and then giving them pointers in a hex editor. To add tiles you can export and import the tileset in Advance Map using the Block Editor.

[Dialog no.][Give Pokémon][Trade Pokémon][0x0A for PKMNNAME][2xDV][Item][2xID][0x0A for TRAINERNAME][Gender][00]
Gender: 00 = Random
01 = Male
02 = Female
You just need to change the byte before the 00 to the gender of your choice. But that will change the gender they give you not the gender you give them. Also there is no Pokemon gender check code. The other option to do would be raise the gender amount of the certain Pokemon so you find more of that gender for that Pokemon.

it means that the new image is too big, and so, either you have to repoint, or shrink your prof. sprite.

I think that depends on how much bigger the image is. I usually just open up a hex editor and find a lot of FF in a row.

nope...
I meant was, example I inserted a huge sprite, find an offset which is free through a hex editor, use the offset, bang! It works, horay, and then a new sprite is coming to town unlz-gba, once again I do the same, successful...
my question, is there by any chance, be any free offsets between those two images I inserted..? :\

Oh, that depends on how much space you leave between the first and 2nd images. Though how is that different from just using the offset after the 2nd? Either way you are using all the bytes. The other thing is just in a different spot.

How do I change the starting intro in FireRed/LeafGreen? (The bit with Professor Oak?)
And more importantly, how do I change the X/Y co-ordinates on the first map you warp to (like, what address are the co-ordinates located in the hex?)

I've been trying to insert some D/P Pokemon into my FR rom but fgor some reason even though they're indexed and 64x64 it says 'Too big to be compressed' when I try to write them to the rom. I've tried to resize but that just messes it up even more :/
I only want Buizel/Floatzel, Shinx/Luxio/Luxray and the two new Eevee evoloutions.

Look into your hex editor or you could use Free Space Finder. Find lots of free space (FF) And put the offset where you find free space into the picture offset in unLZ. Or you could just use Free Space Finder (comes with A-Map) That should hopefully work.

Gender: 00 = Random
01 = Male
02 = Female
You just need to change the byte before the 00 to the gender of your choice. But that will change the gender they give you not the gender you give them. Also there is no Pokemon gender check code. The other option to do would be raise the gender amount of the certain Pokemon so you find more of that gender for that Pokemon.

You should first export the oak sprite and paste the new picture on top and make sure oaks pallette is switched to before inserting the sprite and writing to rom. The Unlz is supposed to show what the sprite looks like before you write to rom anyhow so... Put the oak sprite back inside the game and try it over instead of trying to overwrite this sprite. By the way, I'm a little good at this so I know. That sprite is a little too scratchy on the left side on the top and middle near the legs. You can see the prob. I suggest using lorelie or the teacher from firered when making a professor like this or even claire.

In that case use APE to fix the pallette. That happened when I replaced my ho-oh with a revamp. They have a title screen tutorial somewhere on the site that shows hot to use ape when that happens to the sprite. I used it and it worked out fine.

Make sure you are saving it correctly by not having "Auto abort if new data is bigger" ticked.

You need to add them in using hex, they should be near the events for the certain map.

When I replace the sprites in the correct palette slots, the Drake sprite becomes ripped apart and scrambled. Why does it do this? Is it because of it's size or something?

You don't use offsets to connect maps, you use the Map Bank and the Map Number of the map you want to connect to.

The only thing that comes to mind is a glitch or a bug. Chk your warp and chk the house map in A-map to make sure you didn't do put the warp in wrong.

same happens with me, i just make the map size 1 extra tile wider lengthways, and its fixed. hope that helps.

I'm having problems finding the FR male hero sprite at the introduction when choosing the gender. Does any one know the Unlz number. I've checked through the whole thing to number 2070 something then it wouldn't let me scroll next any further (so that's probably the limit) and I didn't sse the introducion sprite once. Can anyone help?

Ok I found the sprite and imported a new one on top while it was in 256 mode with B/W and wrote it to the rom. It was ok. I don't really trust my Unlz so I opened up my FireRed and the sprite wasn't there. When I picked the male gender professor oak's sprite returned and when I gave the name the sprite didn't show at all. Just the circle platform. What's wrong? This never happened to me before.

Okay, I really need to find out something: I'm using TLP (Tile Layerer Pro) for the graphics of my Gold hack. So I need the hex codes to find the graphics location. You get what I mean? Well here's an example:
Tileset 1: 18942
I need the hex numbers for each tilesets, the ingame Pokemon picutres, and the titlescreen number. For the titlescreen, I just need the number for where it says: "Gold Version" So I can change the name. Thanks!

How do I:

At the top of the window, there should be a button with four arrows pointing up, down, left and right. If you click on that, it should take you to the Connections Editor. Or you could go to Tools -> Map connections at the very top of the window. Once there, you have to change the map bank and map number to that of the map that you want to link to. There are two connections out of Pallet Town so remember to change the right one. Also, you should go to the linked map (Route 5 in your case) and change one of the connections to Pallet Town.

I think the game does it automatically but what you could do is use #raw 0x90 (givemoney) or #raw 0x91 (takemoney) to change the amount. However, the normal amount would display at the end of the battle but you would (secretly) get more (or less) money. Keep in mind that I haven't tested this yet.

1.- You don't. Use AM
2.- someone else reply this one...
3.- Probably it's a problem with the parameters. Be sure of the number of parameters and its length. (for example, if you use a pointer instead of a byte, you get that error-
4.- Always remember: uncompressed = TLP, tilemolester and similars; compressed: Unlzgba. Pokemons and tilesets are compressed. Actually, you only see overworld sprites, pokemon icons and not much else in uncompressed format.

Sorry if someone thinks I'm spamming when bringing up the same question twice but I need an answer since this is urgent and a day late. When I write a new sprite in B/W 256 mode over the original Male hero sprite of firered seen in the introduction why does the sprite not show een though there was nothing wrong with the Unlz and it reported nothing? Any help is appreciated and thnx in advance to the answerer.

Well, I`ve downloaded the "pokemon HFD editor" or something like that, its a MSdos
application that its used to edit a lot of things of Pokemon Gold and Silver, The problem
is that i dont know how to use it, when I open it, it says " Write the path and the name of
the rom" and when I write it and press enter, it closes...
Every time I press enter or intro it closes TT_TT
Please can someone tell me how do i use it??
In addition I would like to know if I can add more maps, using Advance Map, for
GBA games, Pokemap or Goldmap, for GB and GBC games, or other map editor.

Okay, here's what to do with HFD: Put your ROM in the same folder as HFD. Then, when you start it up, use the up and down arrows to select the ROM. It's pretty simple!

Is there a way to add new types with a hex editor? I've looked all around for help on this, but I couldn't find anything. I'd really appreciate the help.

Okay, here's what to do with HFD: Put your ROM in the same folder as HFD. Then, when you start it up, use the up and down arrows to select the ROM. It's pretty simple!
Okay, and here are my questions:
I only got one question answered! I don't mean to spam, but could someone answer these questions:
1. How do I add more maps with EliteMam? A-Map doesn't work with Windows 98...
2. The Pokescript link is dead in the toolbox. I need a link for the program.
3. You said that the titlescreen is compressed so I can't edit it in TLP. So how do I edit it? I also need the TLP Hex numbers for a LOT of stuff, most importantly these:
Pokemon in-battle picutres
each tileset
Okay, here's the deal: Isn't Unlz GBA only for the GBA ROM's? If it doesn't work with GS, can you give me a link to a program that does?

3) I think Mean Mr Mustad (aka The Dude) or someone made a patch that makes it so you can just edit the titlescreen in TLP etc
I know for sure you can edit the Pokemon in-battle pictures with AGIXP, Skeetendo made a translation of it to English, but alot of people can't get it working, including me now...

1. Hey, I'm using WindHex for my hack of Gold, but I'm not sure how to edit the wild pokemon that appear on a route. GoldMap doesn't help me out on this.02AB35 starts a list of wild Pokemon and their locations, in the following format:

Ok, this is a really noob question, but...
I'm moving away from the overt simplicity of hacking Advance Gen. games, and am setting my sights on making hacks of gb/gbc games; namely Blue and Gold.
Now here's where the noobness comes in;
I have a hex editor, and have been able to write text to certain parts of the rom, but I'm not sure how to implement that text to be said by one of the characters/signs, because it asks me for a text bank and a text block, whatever that means.
So, what is the Text Bank and Text Block's relation to the text's actual location, in hex, within the rom?

So, what is the Text Bank and Text Block's relation to the text's actual location, in hex, within the rom?The "text block"/"text bank" label in Goldmap is mislabeled. It has nothing to do with text -- it's actually the two-byte pointer to the script, as you can see if you check out the scripts in hex. To do what you're asking (make it so that people can say things), you should look up scripting; cooley has a tutorial a few pages into the Documents/Tutorials section. And if you haven't already, read up on pointers.
As an aside, Blue is very unfriendly if you don't already know how it works. I recommend sticking with Gold until you have a bit more experience editing GBC games.

I don't know about the Diamond cutter, but if you use pokescript, you could get some guidance from this (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=91510) tutorial for making scripts and inserting them. Or you could read up thethethethe's scripting tutorial. If you use scripted then this (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=131485) should help you through the basics of making a script and this (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=139039) should help you to compile them. Have fun.

You have either overwritten the picture with the previous pic (find it in a clean rom) or edited wrong the "speed fell" text, It happened to me once while translating that the game froze when using ancientpower (if raised the stats) for similar reasons.

thanx, but, ive looked in a clean rom already for it and i just cant find it. do you know where it is in unlz.gba, and what is the speed fell text?

They are flags, you can activate them, reset them and check if they are on or off. The codes used are from 31-33 for Bit Table 1 and 34-36 for Bit Table 2.

And the speed fell text is "X's Y Z" where X is the rival pokemon, Y is attack, defense... and Z is rose/fell/sharply rose/sharply fell, but if you haven't edited battle texts it isn't it.

I use GBcolorizer for my gold spriting. Is there a good substitute for this? If not then is it possible to import sprites as you can do with Hackmew and Xeon's OW?

you just navigate to the Gold ROM with the arrow keys, press Enter, it has instructions

can anyone help me search of a pokemon diamond/pearl patch that allows you to capture any pokemon in a certain area of grass? like lets say.. starter pokemon piplup, you cant usually capture that anywhere but the patch allows you to capture it somewhere. I remember i came across it once but then i was to lazy to patch my ds and now i wanna use it and i cant find it.

First of all, even if something doesn't work, don't be ungrateful. People have taken their time to answer your questions. Remember, they don't have to. And also, try to remember, people don't know what you're capable of, so most answers are written in a simple way so that anyone can understand.
Now answers. 1) Ummm... I'm not too sure if their's a tutorial. I know it's uncompressed, so you should be able to find the tiles in the tile viewer in VBA and search for the order that the tiles appear in. Hopefully that makes sense.
2) Don't know, I'm not sure.
3) I wrote a short tutorial on how to do it. It's in the documents and tutorials section here at PC.

well then where do i put the speed text? and whenever i use lunar ips, because my rom died....:(,(to recover it), it always says: Youre modified file has changes at or beyond the 16 MB mark. The Ips format is unable to address those offsets. The generated patch file will only contain changes below that point. plz help.

Is there away to change the tileset like its possible with Amap? Also what, if any, tools can I use to script for g/s/c and does anyone have the table for Gold or crystal? I also can't seem to find Crysmap anywhere after searching google and its not in the scrapbox. Where can I get one?

Well I've always just used WindHex32, it doesn't matter much, you just need to make sure the hex editor you do use supports thingy tables, quite a few people use Translhextion or Thingy32 I think aswell.

Hi. In my UnlzGBA, I try to import a picture of Brawly and it aborts it. I switched the pointer to free space. It SEEMED like it let me go, but when I switched back to it, bam. Erika's still there. I DON'T WANT ERIKA! HELP!

.ini is a file format used to store variables so programs can read from them. You don't need to understand them unless you're a programmer. xD

Poketext works but doesnt have all the data in the game
Translhextion is the one i use
you'll also need the table file (attached)
just rename it from .txt to .tbl

it aint japanese
it's basic hex
pokemon is coded
which is why you need the table file i posted in the last one
somewhere in the headings of the editor should be open thingy table
if you rename it as gold.tbl and open it in the hex everything will be in english :)

Unchk any choices you put under where it says japanese and look all the to your right side with the black font. As you scroll through it you'll see the texts and you can edit them there.
EDIT: wait what tool do you use? Translhextion is what I recommend for gsc hackers.

BMP can be imported into TLP,
those 2 links contain the numbers
and, warps refer to map and bank numbers, warp 1 , 2 ,3 etc are unique to a map
for example
you would set a warp point on one map to warp number X on map Y bank Z

So I was attempting to edit FireRed with A-map. I put in a few scripts, and tried to test run it. All was going well, until the game suddenly reset. I tried to run it again, and the game reset once more, in the exact same spot. I remapped the area to go around that spot, and then, when I tested it, it reset on the same horizontal line. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen?

In the map the game resets once you enter, check if there are any person events that are "Hidden"(first "Hidden" in the movement type list, if you use another "Hidden" type it won't reset). This is what causes the game to reset.

What happens if you turn everything in a ROM (using Hex Editing) into empty space (FFFF)
I cant answer most of that, but if you made everything into empty space the rom wouldnt exist
there wouldnt be any data in it - data for everything is included in the rom when it's open in a hex editor
so there wouldnt just be no map headers, there would be no maps, and there would be no sprites to go in the maps
and when you tried opening it in vba you'd just get a cannot be opened error or a fatal error :)
Not that I've done that, it's just kinda obvious :P

well then where do i put the speed text? and whenever i use lunar ips, because my rom died....:(,(to recover it), it always says: Youre modified file has changes at or beyond the 16 MB mark. The Ips format is unable to address those offsets. The generated patch file will only contain changes below that point. plz help.
Eek, sounds pretty bad. To fix your original problem all you needed to do was to search for the offset of the text in A-text in a clean rom, then go to that offset copy a reasonable amount of hex (say 10 lines just to be safe) and then go to the offset in your hacked rom and replace the amount of lines you copied. I think what you must have done for Lunar IPS to say that is that you inserted bytes instead of replacing them.
I don't know if you can fix it and I don't think you should waste any more time trying too either. Just start again. Copy over the maps and scripts and you'll be up to where you were in no time.

The GBA rom files have pointers that are represented by 3 bytes that is why the rom files finish at approximately FFFFFF (FF is the largest byte in hex) so when it is increased, the pointers are now insufficient to point to all the data in the rom. I haven't actually researched this in-depth and what I've told is mostly common sense. I'm sure it is possible somehow, I remember reading that VBA is able to play roms of any size so the emulation will not be a problem. I also remember that Crystal Shards was going to have a rom expansion. Try searching for it on google. That probably should have been the first thing you did.
Yes you can delete all the scripts but if its quite dangerous as you risk deleting stuff that are needed for the game engine.
Nothing, you will not be able to do anything with it. It will be an empty file.

How do i edit the growth rates of a pokemon in a rom cuz it kinda becomes a hassle to raise all of these pokemon that take up all the experience and training in the wild takes forever as well so i wanted to change the growth rates of gyarados aerodactyl snorlax and pikachu cuz they are the worst to raise but kinda become a payoff so if anyones got an idea or a certainty...

Has anyone had the problem where the effects of various attacks become messed up? For example, when you use Dig in battle, each turn it says "[POKEMON] dug a hole!" without it actually resurfacing to attack. Also, attacks like Stun Spore and Sleep Powder don't cause any status conditions, while the effects of other attacks are also not what they're supposed to be. I can't change it with A-Tack or AEP; if anyone knows how I could reset the attack data through Hex or something else, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I commonly encounter a problem where if you open the Pokemon menu in close proximity to an NPC and return, you are in control of that NPC's sprite instead of your own.

Well for the first question, I have no idea. 0_0
Then for the second one, that means that the sprite is set to "look down", to fix it, change it to No movement, since it is the same thing. ;)

You won't be able to 'reset' it with hex, but you could overwrite it with what it should be.
Here's the easiest way I can think of to fix up the attacks. Download a hex editor that supports a copy and paste function. If you can't find one, look for either Hexeccute or Hex Workshop.
Now in an unhacked fire red rom, go to 0x250C04, and highlight everything from 0x250C04 - 0x251CA8, and copy it.
Now open up your hacked rom, and go to 0x250C04, and paste all the data and save. That should hopefully fix it.
If that doesn't work, you wouldn't be able to fix it so easily.

I just spent ages working on a map in A-map, and all of a sudden all the tiles changed!? Is there anyway to fix this?

er, you can change the set of tiles in A-Map's Header View... :\
there, you can see 'Tileset 1' and Tileset 2'...

Is this when you open the rom or the program? If its the program you need to download the .NET framework I think take a look at his thread it should say what you need. If its when you open the rom then there is a problem with your rom.

This site (http://userbarmaker.com/) is pretty good.(Yeah..it's not a program, but it makesgood basic banners...well userbars anyway lol). But for programs, you could use GIMP, or something like photoshop,but photoshop you have to pay for. Just google tutorials on how to use them.
Also, I have a question, how do you edit the backsprites of trainers and Pokemon? What program do you use for that? Hacked UNlz.gba doesn't seem to do that...
