Story:
Darkness. Darkness all around. The black storm clouds hovered over the endless chasms, and spread scant droplets of rain into this new world's barren, empty craters. Pure darkness covered
this place, a place before the beginning of time. Then, from one storm cloud's center, a shining
light soon formed. This light disappeared eventually, and in the place where it once was, a
Pokemon emerged. The lightning of countless storms covered its yellow body, with an ever so
slightly elongated head, long, thick neck, stubby limbs, short, blunt claws, short, thin wings,
thick tail with a small, sharp black scale in the tip, and black armor over its head, only
exposing its green eyes. This great titan let out a piercing cry.

"Electrgon! Electrgon! Electrgon!" cried the Pokemon. Born of storms into this place, it seeked
others to keep it company. Finding none, it sank into the crater to sleep, where it would remain
for another milennium before any story can truly begin...

In the time of a thousand years, this mighty beast radiated its own power into the earth,
creating another in time. However, this Pokemon was comprised of only life, with no conscience...
This Pokemon could strike fear into even the strongest man, with its icy blue eyes, red-and-black
scales, massive wings and talons, and many crooked tails... Taking to the air, it awakened the
first Pokemon, known as Electrgon, and fled. Electrgon rose from the crater it had slept in,
and realized its powers could create life. Knowing this, it released a huge wave of energy, all
of its energy, and created all life. Flowers filled the canyons, and dense forests covered all
they could. However, only a scant few Pokemon filled this paradise. It simply couldn't create
anything much more advanced than simple sea-dwelling Pokemon such as the shrimp-like Anorith.
Deeply saddened, Electrgon took to the clouds where it circled the globe countless times...

The second Pokemon, known as Dravolent, on the other hand, was delighted with Electrgon's
work. It took to skimming the seas and killing the Pokemon and plants to absorb their life.
However, much of the life went unabsorbed. Rather, it went back to Electrgon, who used it to
create new beings. In time, Electrgon's powers increased, and the things it created could be
more complex, and less life could be used per being with no ill effects. Dravolent continued to
kill these things, but on land and in the air as well, and the cycle continued. Legendary Pokemon
were born to govern Electrgon's creations, and somewhere along the line it even created a unique
type of being- humans. Still, the cycle continued. One day, during its flight, Electrgon
finally encountered Dravolent, its earliest creation. It recognised Dravolent as the Pokemon
of Death, the thing that killed its creations.

"GON!" it cried, releasing numerous thunderbolts at Dravolent, and starting the War of a Thousand
Years. Many lost their lives in these battles, and it seemed the end of the world was nigh.
However, one human, the first Pokemon Trainer, realized that these Pokemon could be stopped,
and set out to stop them with only one Pokemon. This man, who's name and image have been
lost to the sands of time, took his Pokemon, an Armair, to defeat Electrgon and Dravolent.
They fell, and this man took them to the Sacred Lake in the land of Derukia, where he used a
legendary item known as the Balance Scepter to seal them in other worlds, where their powers
would not harm each other, and the cycle would repeat forever. A tower was then built on this
site, the roof being the only place where the Balance Scepter could be used to open the portals...

Yeah, sorry about the tileset issue. This was rushed after my puter rebooted during the first one, so I forgot. As for images... that's why I hired Kouga. I know I can't draw, and I want to fix the art problem. But anyway... I'd like more opinions, and some possible staff, so recruitment is open.

I'm doing what I do best. Criticising.
Your maps are very square and blocky, you need to get some custom Tilesets and Charactersets and then, just maybe, this won't look like another generic Starter Kit game.
As for the story: TL;DR.

Ok, I'm gonna be honest CW, this project is off to a good start but, it needs a load of work. Some Pokemon look nice, others are very poor. The trainer sprites are very bad edits, one Giovanni mixed with the Elephant man and the other is Lorelei (I think) mixed with a fighter woman(can't remember the specific title). The maps are good, yet the buildings in Greataltat Town are too close together and there are too many buildings in Chromeshore town. If they are to be kept, maybe make some unable to enter. The story is good, some of the Pokemon have great potential and I think you are great for starting and managing a game.

I wish you luck!

Crazy Weavile
March 12th, 2007, 09:49 PM
Yeah, the sprites are wretched, but they're just placeholders. As for Chromeshore... it's the Saffron/Goldenrod/Rustboro of this game.

Fangking Omega
March 12th, 2007, 11:45 PM
It may be the big city, but as said in a previous review I gave you, the map itself is relatively badly executed - it wouldn't look like a real game's map. Far too linear, far too much packed into one space.

Okay, I agree with everyone here about the sprites, but don't get down over it. You might want to try to redo some by taking pieces of other pokemon and putting them together, recoloring the whole thing, and tweaking them a bit, even though you have other people helping you on them. This is how a lot of people do there custom sprites, and it'll be easier for you because you already have the designs done.

The maps are boring, and honestly, not very good. My suggestion is to go look at other people's maps, especially RM2K3Kid's maps, they're amazing. You just need some practice.

Storyline's good though, and that's a good start, 'cause without a good storyline, a game will fail as soon as it started.

Crazy Weavile
March 18th, 2007, 02:08 AM
Thanks for the criticism... but now, a big announcement. Pokecommunity gets a special news tidbit before anywhere else. I'm going to tell you about some important storyline info.

GENESIS
GENESIS is the region's "evil" team, but they aren't just Rocket wannabes. They're led by a man named Ivan- the player character might better know him as Dad, though. Ivan leads GENESIS not with a goal of conquest, but, get this, justice. He saw the Player (as a small child) and the player's mother being ran off the road by criminals, and believed them to be dead, therefore leaving the region until he found in its mythology a way to achieve godlike power- control of Electrgon and Dravolent. Believing that with absolute power he could ensure peace, he recruited followers, before returning to the Derukia region to capture Electrgon and Dravolent. Obviously, he's surprised when the player first encounters him.

Kukaru, I'd like some concepts for Beacollie and Brightound.

-Online trading and battling*
-Usable HMs
-Animated title screen*
-Shiny Pokemon
-All Pokemon normally found in the demo's maps

Sorry for the double-post, but here's the story up to the demo's end.
You wake up in your small Pine Town house, play your new Wii for a bit, and then go downstairs for breakfast. When you go down, you see that your sister, Hope, is missing after she went to play in the woods by Lakefront. Your mother asks you to find her, and you go to Prof. Spruce's house. Prof. Spruce understands, but won't let you go to find Hope until you have a Pokemon. So, he walks you to the Lab, and allows you to choose between Breedling, Lantark, and Tadpond, then reminds you that you were going to leave on your Pokemon journey today, anyway. When you've got one, you go through Route 301, into Lakefront City, and into the nearby woods, where you find Hope singing to some wild Zapterfly. When she sees you, she realizes she has to go home, says goodbye to the Zapterfly, and says she'll tell Mom that you're setting out. You then attempt to go to the Lakefront Gym, but it's locked. So, since there's a battle blocking the exit of the Amber Forest, you go to Derukia Lake, to see Elliot of Lakefront Gym battling some strange men, who notice that the Balance Scepter isn't in Derukia Tower, then leave for Chromeshore, and their base. Elliot leaves, and you walk to his Gym, where you beat him handily. You then go through Amber Forest, to Breezetop Town, where you defeat the Gym Leader, Morph, on your way to Chromeshore. On your way, you stop in the scenic Saltlake Town, built on a salt lake created in a flood. You cross the Derukia Strait, then arrive in Chromeshore, which is controlled by the people you saw at Derukia Lake. The gym, the Runil Co. Office Building, and the Poketain Building are all locked. You'll see that there's some commotion at the mine, and enter. After beating off GENESIS grunts with a stick and learning of their plans, you see the mining chief and Gym Leader Cyan and the miners being interrogated by the head of GENESIS - your father, and hear something about a secret order of ancient Guardians of Derukia Tower. Cyan admits to being part of it, and is then made to surrender a map to the Balance Scepter before the GENESIS members depart. Cyan chuckles, and explains that it's written in old Derukian. Then, realizing that he's too old to journey himself, he asks you to carry the only known book that contains a text in both old and new Derukian, and carry the sacred duties of a Guardian of Derukia Tower. You accept, before beating him in his Gym and learnimg that the Balance Scepter now rests deep inside Greataltar Temple...

Pokemon SPECIAL (Tells you where you can find certain rare Pokemon)

I'm doing what I do best. Criticising.
Your maps are very square and blocky, you need to get some custom Tilesets and Charactersets and then, just maybe, this won't look like another generic Starter Kit game.
As for the story: TL;DR.

Meh he seems like another (CENSORED) but I like the tilesets,the maps and all, graphics after Kouga edits them should be EXCELLENT, Ive seen alot of his work. Storyline and all are pretty good to, I wish I could help but it seems Im only good at art and you need scripters not another spriter/artist. I would refer you to some people but I only know a few scripters that are actually worthy of mentioning and Im kinda using their abilities ^.^;

Good luck and I like it thus far.

Crazy Weavile

Going fine- and you just hit the button below all the topics that says new thread. How's the art coming?

The Pokedex is getting a major revamp in T/I... you'll see what I mean. I've yet to implement it, but here's the new Pokedex interface!

http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/2636/newpokedexwatermarkns3.png

The entire thing is handled by the mouse- you click on an entry's name to display it. The up and down arrows change the center entry the old-fashioned way. (but who's going to use them?) However, the main difference is in the reduction to one screen. Typing helps you search for Pokemon by name- without going to a search screen. You can use the left and right arrows to swap modes, and, best of all, the entire Pokedex entry of the Pokemon you've selected is on the left of the screen, replacing the old-fashioned display of its sprite. Cry is gained by pressing C, and Area has fused with the PokeCom's Radar function, while size has merged with the Height and Scale functions. I love the new system- I think you will too.

Zerro
August 2nd, 2007, 09:14 AM
Ill be glad to help you with programming, but first things first.

The maps are all... well... Bla. They are unoriginal and stick to the same base concept. There is no true decorations. Try spicing in some more flowers and extras. IT would help LOTS if you customized the tiles as well.

Another thing, Good luck with getting in online features. It can be done yes, but anyone willing to program that would be better off making thier own game as that would be a great feature. I say get the core game done first, and then add in your little 'extras'.

EDIT

BTW the fact that in your original post you have a screen shot showcasing that 'You have one letter' really bugs me. That screen shot shows nothing of the actual system. For all i know you just made a action key event the gives that text.

Crazy Weavile
August 2nd, 2007, 09:57 AM
Thank you so much for that offer.. I'm crap at scripting, and can... change text colors. Woo.

I've been trying to get custom tiles for the same reasons as you described... a lot of the stuff I want to do can't be done with my tileset. They'd look better if I had the TOOLS to decorate them... and I'd say the as-of-yet unreleased Lakefront is well-decorated already.

You recommended the path I'm going on- I'm not going to put online or anything into an otherwise half-finished game!

Thanks for the comment- criticism helps to make it better, unlike "omg u need better pics lololol!".

Zerro
August 5th, 2007, 07:21 AM
Id say don't include online at all. I have not seen even one completed Pokemon game here. Go for the base set first. Get the Menus to work, and the battle system to work and all catching and storage systems to work. Then add in all gym battles as well as story battles. Once you do that you have a completed game. Thats when you go back with the extras. You add in all the extra trainers, features ect. Thats whe you release the game into Beta. find all the bugs. Take the game out of Beta, fix everything. Go into Beta2, then release. =)

Naturgia is the essence of the natural world. I've reached breaking point, and can't do much else apart from waiting now. So, until I get scripts, tiles, music, etc., I'm going to work on a less ambitious project, which I expect a demo for by New Year's Day at the latest.

These are not cancelled- in fact, I'll reveal more info all the same. But, until future time, there is little I can do... You can help, of course, by spreading the word! So...

Quite possibly the most important city in the game, Lakefront City has been unveiled! This quiet town serves as the gate to Derukia Lake, and was actually started as a village of people who had dedicated their lives to keeping Electrgon and Dravolent sealed away. The building in the northwest is a train station- but to where? Well, Cryptrise is a little to the west- but there's something far bigger to do with this station after you beat the Champion in Cloudtop. There's also a forest between here and Smogzone, and a hotel, too.

Crazy Weavile
October 31st, 2007, 01:52 AM
Hello, mere mortals. In perhaps the closest set of map updates ever done on this game, I brought you Lakefront four days ago... and now, I bring you Smogzone!

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/7110/breezetopcitymapiu1.png

This is a polluted, abandoned city with hobos, some houses for the power plant employees, and, the only reason it's even on the map, Derukia's main power plant. The building to the far left is the (now abandoned) Eastern Safari Zone entrance. You'll find lots of Poison-type Pokemon there. On the right, there's the aforementioned Power Plant, which ships energy off to less... smelly... cities. For one of my favorite maps, it's a place you'll want to avoid, and won't have to go to much.

Oh, yes, about Cosmogia- it's coming, but I'm saving it...

My forum got this first, but I need an update. Have the first bit of the marionettes' backstory!

...Or a fairy tale based on it, at least.

Long, long ago, three brothers known for their
bravery, strength, and compassion were given by a
strange man three strange stone masks. The man
said to them, "A marionette which wears this mask
will move without strings, speak without actors... It
will do the will of its master until the day of its
master's death. But beware... these are not for those
who would have their hands stained with blood if
given the chance. For the marionette given life has
free will, and chooses to obey as thanks. If it is
asked to do work harming others, it may lash out at
the one who commands it. That being said... do you
accept these items, dangerous in the wrong hands?"

The first brother hastily repied yes, and took the
mask. He immediately returned to his abode to craft
its wearer. The second brother thought for a day and
a night, and then, when he had made his decision,
the man appeared from the shadows, asking if a
selection had been made. The second brother
agreed, and took the mask, vowing not to use it for
personal gain.
The third brother took fourteen days and fourteen
nights to make his decision. When he was ready, he
located the kindly stranger and replied "No, for I am
not ready, not wise nor foolhardy enough to take
such a power." The man answered him, "But you
must. If you do not, who will stop your brothers from
bringing about the end of all?" He left the final mask at
the third brother's feet and vanished. The third
brother grudgingly accepted the mask and went
home to carve his marionette.

The first brother, being brash and headstrong,
ignored the stranger's warning and forged a sleek,
powerful puppet of steel. He plotted to use it to build
a great empire in his name, fearful that his brothers
would bring about cataclysm if he did not control the
land. The mask was placed over its head, and it
bowed before asking him his desires. The second, a
wiser man, and yet lacking in foresight, chose to
grow plants, the fruits of the earth, to make himself a
puppet he believed could guard the countryside he
held dear. When the arduous task was finished, he
placed the mask on its head and it asked his wishes.
However, the third brother, knowing what lay ahead,
built a simple puppet of wooden rods, for that was all
he had. He slept one night when it was completed
but the mask had not yet been placed. Before he lay
down that night, though, he pleaded to the stars that
his puppet be improved, so that it might be able to
better fulfill its role. That night, something happened.
Down from the heavens came a star imp. Its head
flapped about as if a long cap, and from that it shed
star dust. It sprinkled a bit on the puppet, and, when
the man awakened, the puppet was a glorious
creation of unearthly materials. The man shouted his
praises to the heavens, and placed the mask on the
puppet. The puppet spoke, asking its master for his
greatest desire. He answered, "Protect this land and
all beyond it from whatever may harm them!" The
puppet bowed, and vanished in a puff of smoke.

Keep going, there's more to come here so long as you can get the resources and staff you still require. But I can see that you're starting to think as a mapper - a more judicious approach to space. I predict a profitable year for the project and I'd be surprised if you didn't get a decent demo out.

A peaceful farming village you pass through on your way to Stonecreek and Derukia's Sea Chart. Stonecreek has a farm that raises rare Berries and a couple of exotic Pokemon, of which you receive an infant after getting the National Dex. It also has the Pokemon Fan Club and Deep Cave- an endurance trial with an infinite amount of randomly-generated floors, constantly getting harder. Several Pokemon can only be obtained in the cave post-B15F. The other cave is a spring where rare Pokemon appear. All in all, while you COULD go from one bridge to the other, going through this town will be decidedly to your advantage.

Say hello to Duskmaera, the alternate female evolution of Duskull. It's based on a hag/maera. (see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hag)) That explains why it's so ugly, doesn't it? This thing is sort of like Dusknoir's mirror image- as you can see, it's not exactly sturdy.

Yuoaman
April 30th, 2008, 01:18 AM
Wow... afsnyder... If you don't have something nice to say just don't say anything at all. And if you are going to trash another person's project don't just say, 'In my opinion it doesn't look like a good game', tell us why you think that, offer some constructive criticism, you may be able to help the game get even better. And also, what makes you the authority on Pokemon games? I haven't seen anything on this forum of your work thus far, so what gives you the right to say a game is bad or not, if you haven't ever done it before? If you were to make the absolute greatest Pokemon fan game ever, making all of us look up to you, maybe then you could get away with that comment, but not at this point.

Also; Weavile, game is looking great thus far, but maybe you could try to get a reflection animation for water, and sprite that Duskmaera, that pic is just creepy. Just some suggestions, good luck.

HeavyOctillery
May 1st, 2008, 07:07 PM
Ok, for those of you who keep saying how crappy this is, you're probably just judging on his artwork - HE ADMITTED his inability to draw already. From what I've seen, one person can't make a fangame alone most of the time. HE NEEDS MORE ARTISTS. All of his ideas are great, but he needs help in that one area.

Which leads me to my real reason for posting; I'm not as good as PK or Nelson or Kangaskid, but I can at least attempt to fix up some of those Fakemon. I think my neighbor's printer is also a scanner, but if worse comes to worse, ya' may have to wait a while to see anything. >_< Sorry about that. However, I have a LOT of free time on my hands, and I'm a perfectionist when it comes to drawing.

Also, I have a few suggestions in regards to the new Sonic & Cosmic types; Cosmic is pretty much unnecessary when Light, Dark & especially Psychic, as well as other type combos, already cover that. (Dialga & Palkia's dual-types, for example.) I did consider a Cosmic type, myself, but I've realized that it isn't really needed. Sonic, I'm not quite sure where you're going with that. I also saw a Microbe type mentioned; Poison WAAAAY covers that.

Just my thoughts on that aspect.

*EDIT* You've gotten quite good at tilesets & making the overworld, though. Nice work.

Crazy Weavile
May 1st, 2008, 07:20 PM
Microbe is dead, it just has yet to stop moving.

I actually debated keeping Cosmic; it was floating around with the absurdly stupid Microbe for a while, but I decided to keep it, simply because certain new Pokemon can't be considered any other type. Microbes were all dumped, because they all sucked. Badly.

Sonic has to do with sound- there are so many Pokemon and attacks based on sound, but they're all lumped in with Normal. Sonic should fix that.

Could you provide an example?

EDIT: Jynx, I DESPERATELY need a spriter. Please provide an example, and, assuming it's good, you're hired.

HeavyOctillery
May 1st, 2008, 08:28 PM
You mean of my artwork? Not yet; I don't have anything to show at the moment. I'll look through the previous Fakemon art & attempt something, though.

One thing I forgot: Electrgon needs a more Legendary-sounding name; Dravolent works, but the Electric/Dragon needs a better name to fit its status.

You obviously don't know who "Lmayonaise" is, or you wouldn't have said that :P

Personally, I agree with "Lmayonaise" (should I call you that here?). No offense, but your (Crazy Weavile) concepts aren't very good. However, KougaWolf's Pokémon are a great asset to the game - be proud you have a designer that good.

LMAO..naise.

I know a lot of design aesthetics, and because I'm not part of a fad of fake games doesn't mean I have any idea. I doubt you have a clue a fan presentation should be showcased.

1. the designs and overall concepts of all mon suck. they look terrible with pretty much no CREATIVITY. Honestly, legendary dragons? Lmao, Diamond & Pearls been there and done that with dialga, palkia and giratina.

2. Story seems basic and ordinary. i want to play fun games with eye balling content thx.

Even though I haven't started on the artwork just yet, I've copied all the Fakemon names & types onto my comp, and I'm trying to rename and/or retype some of them (or, in the case of retyping, just put a possible alt. typing off to the side). On some Fakemon, though, I have absolutely no previous art to work off of atm, so I'm not quite sure what to do in those cases.

*EDIT* (5/3/08) Scratch that - I DID redraw Ballance last night; it now looks more like a yin-yang symbol. It DEFINITELY looks more Pokemon-like.

Dricanyon Town is a desert city, home to the last Gym, and a place to heal your Pokemon while roughly halfway to Cryptrise. This is good, as without Dricanyon's Center/Shop you could never make it. In the center of the town, roughly, one can see why this random patch of desert was chosen to be inhabited- it has a pond. The Gym is Fire-type, led by a certain someone with whom you may be familiar...

This is also the first showing of the new graphics for Center/Marts, mountains, and signs. (in addition to some things which aren't shown in this city) These wonderful graphics are done by Pyro of Skeetendo.

I like your concept here, but I was curious as to whether or not you had a demo up yet. I like to play a little bit of the game before judging it. Either way, I could probably do some spriting for you. The only real problem is that I have a major research paper to do for English and won't have much time until I graduate (which will be in two weeks :) yay). I'll copy some of the lesser drawings tonight and do some recolorings/fixing and send my revisions sometime this week. If you have an email I could send them to, then please PM me since it will be easier to send the pictures as an email attachment.

I'm working on redesigning some of the Fakemon, but I have no scanner of my own, so it could be quite some time before even CW sees them. But that only gives me more time to work on them. :P I do seem to have quite the knack for naming them, though.

No offense to Skeetendo or anything, but those new tiles have a fairly decent lack of quality to them. The Mart and PC have very little detail in them, as well as an overly thick roof, and the sign and mountains look like they were just edited. In my opinion, they should really be touched up at the least, or replaced altogether.

Anyway, the Pokémon Stats screens look good. The new types should be a nice addition, but remember to balance them out with the other ones (if you haven't already). The text box and menu look alright, but some more shading should be added, to seem a little less flat.

Aw, but Wichu, Bidoof's so adorable. :P

Anyway, if anybody's seen Metadrek's current art, it's just an edited Muk with scrap metal stuck in it; I'm working on new concept art for it to make it a little less looking like a mere edit. Of course, as with probably all of my art (for a while, at least), someone may have to touch it up later. I've also got new concept art for Mentail - it's adorable. :P

Metadrek's supposed to look that way. It's basically a radioactive Muk with scrap embedded in it. Has to do with where it evolves.

So... Orre is gone.

Why? It was UNPLAYABLE. Orre only has wild Pokemon in a few areas. This lead to long, empty routes, since you didn't have anything like Wes or Micheal. To anyone who wanted it: I apologize, but you didn't miss anything.

Of course, what replaces it? Derukia and Fiore don't have enough landmass on their own.

I won't tell you yet. But you'll know if you can recognize this pattern of trees:

Cryptrise is a small town in the middle of nowhere, along Derukia's western edge. It's not all that important, but contains a large cemetery. This is considered holy ground, and is shrouded in a dense fog that makes it impossible to navigate. Cryptrise is interesting in that it's haunted- indeed, you'd be hard-pressed to find a building without at least one Ghost-type Pokemon in it.

Weavile, best of luck! Really! After more than a year your fangame is still alive, which is pretty impressing. Most of them don't even last that long. Just keep improving your skills, don't lose sight of your goal, and make it happen!

On a different note, is your CBS done? :)
