Compared to the rest of the world, Canada and the United States have an amazing number of TV ads. Don't you think it would be better if we followed the ways of Europe and only had, mabye two or three ads inbetween shows?

Please voice your opinions.

Yeah, they are kind of annoying, but it's not like it's having some kind of adverse effect on the subconscious of the populous and plus I just saved a bunch of money on car insurance by switching to Geico.

Well people, I have only this to say: TV ads must go. I was watching Destiny Deoxys earlier, and there was a heck of a lot of ads on from continuing the movie...I got so frustrated. x_o

Really, though. If it means my shows can stay on the air it doesn't really bother me that much.

Yeah, at least my shows stay on the air. It would really piss me off if something had to come up to cancel my show/movie. x_o

TV ads can be pretty bad and some say they must go. They may be petty and totally ruin the whole new episode or movie thing. But in my opinion, these are jobs in TV. They convince some people to sign up for this car or whatever, and it would totally ruin the economy of North America if we don't see TV ads to get convinced to pay. They are annoying, but if you think about it, quite important.

I would definately love having less ads, but I would not be willing to pay extra for it, and I also would be strongly against having less ads by law (is that how it is in Europe?).

Yeah, but in Spain, that law is bypassed. The European Union warned us. And I'm happy of it.

Now we'll have less ads !! xD

Yes, but less shows and channels and choices as well...

What? Europe is only supposed to have only about three or four TV ads? I live in Europe, and we have about 11 each break. Surprisingly enough.

I wonder what's the source or statistics that NA got more TV ads than most countries... last time I recall watching TV back in Hong Kong, there's *far* more ads there than here o.O;

I'm pretty sure that TV ads need no restrictions. Have too much TV ads, and the TV station will get less viewers because too many people will be frustrated. Have too little of them, and the station goes through economic crisis. By default, like supply and demand, the number of TV ads control itself.

Actually, it should be the *content* of the ads that can do some fixing at times...

It was like that when we had RTL (a German channel). It was a TON of commercials every break. I was kind of shocked, being an American. x_x; And to me, the rest of the European channels have about the same amount of commercials as the US does.

For the people who hate commercials, I say count your blessings. Over here, the American TV channels we get aren't allowed to show commercials at all. You get more stupid or annoying commercial-like things to fill that space, and I'm sure you'd rather have a good ad than some of the stuff we get. Go put "AFN Commercial" in YouTube (ignore that first one, that's not real and it's not really appropriate x_X) and you'll see what kind of crap we get instead.
Because you really want to know where the best seat is to avoid terrorists! D;

I mean, I'm sure real commercials are made with more effort. They're trying to sell their product, and I'm sure you have professionals making them. AFN commercials are trying to fill space with somewhat useful information.

As for the real topic, the amount of time we get doesn't bother me one bit. But then again, I don't watch TV, and when I do, I'm used to it. There's enough TV for me in that time.

Anyone ever watch TBS (some places also known as the Superstation)? Between movies/shows, they shocase up to 12 commercials! That's the only station that annoys me, others, I couldn't care too much about, because it gives me the chance to get up from the television, and find something else to do. *Cough Triple Triad cough*

You have it exactly right. *claps*

Ya, I agree, it would be nice to have less ads between shows if possible. 2-3 ads would be nice. But of course, it's not going to happen.

...I like commercials. Especially long ones. XD I have no attention span, so it lets me get up and do things during my TV shows and with the commercials, it means I don't miss anything while I'm up. I hate watching the specialized movie network here because there aren't commercials so I have to sit through the whole thing.

I just don't like it when they show the same ad twice in one break, but otherwise, I really don't mind the commercials. o_o It's not like we've got 5 minutes of them or anything; it's just a little break.

As far as I can remember, North America gets as many commercials as we do in the UK, maybe a little less.

The difference is, American ads are more frequent, but much shorter than UK ads. But the overall time duration of ads combined is roughly the same here as it is in America.

Afterall, it takes us half an hour to get through a 22 minute TV show too.

I think the OP is referring to other European countries, not just the UK... judging by the amount of UK posters talking about lots of ads ^_^

Actually, when I went to Italy for a little while.. I didn't notice a difference between the ads.. ._. I think they have the same amount of ads as we do over here in North America.. so neh~ @@;

Oh, speaking of having "no TV ads."

We have a couple of channels here on terrestrial TV that don't show any ads. But, because of that, we have to pay a recurring TV license fee to cover the cost. Now, which would you prefer?

Really good commercials are enjoyable to watch, but either way, commercials are good for a toliet break or something, lol. But now advertisers are planning to make commercials that are immune to tiVo. :o

To me, they're okay. But some channels go too far and put on more commercial time than show time. Like cartoon network. Grrrr.... Disney Channel does a good job at having no real commercials, unless they are pretty much just disney promotions. Sometimes they promote cereals, but that's about it.

TV ads are okay. They're usually funny. Until you've seen them so many times you've memorized them, then they lose the funniness and become annoying.

No, no, no. We NEED TV ads !! TV ads are perfect when you want to go to the toilet !!

The Super Bowl is enough evidence to prove that North Americans are not tired of commercials. We have shows for the bets commercials, funny commercials, and international commercials because we can't get enough of commercials.

They don't bother me too much I mean, if it weren't for TV ads our shows would be non-stop! @_@ not knowing what comes up next @_@ but i think japanese people are more iiratated with their ads.. eash add for them is like 2 minutes long! so you should add them to this list..

I actually like commercials, some can be rather interesting and funny. Besides, I don't think I'd like TV that much if it were just shows non-stop, that would get to be a bit annoying. Plus, if we don't read magazines or billboards, commercials keep people up to date with new products they may need.

But I like them ^-^

Tv ads should stay. Why? Because thats how the producers get money.

No ads = no tv.

I really don't mind the commercials at all. Sometimes it is great to have them. Because what happens if you don't remember the time a show comes on. If they show a commerical about it, it will click to you. That is one example. And another example, some companies want you to try their products. And also that is how the cable channels and the rest of the channels get paid. It really doesn't bother me. I will just do something while they play commercials.

So no, I am not tired of them. Some are pretty funny anyway, lol. And there are others that they are pretty cool.

I hate ads yet I like ads. Strange isn't it? XD

Reason why I like ads: What happens if you got to take a bathroom break or go get something to eat/drink XD? You'll have to pay more to watch something if you don't got ads in shows to take off the cost for watching something. Without ads you wouldn't have much of a cliffhanger with them shows that tend to have cliffhangers right before commercial breaks.

Reasons why I hate ads: They take time away from shows. Some channels have far too many breaks or is far too long. Some commercials bug the living daylights out of me XD.

If I had to pick, I'd keep the ads. I don't like them, but they do more then most of us think.
