quite good. the only thing is that some of the houses are centered in their little grass yards, and others are slightly lower...so that they overlap the boarder...

Wow you are getting better and now I will give a tip:
The trees that stand alone and the sides that are standing to an roas or open area don't need shade so use the tree nest to the tree you are using if you look closely you will see that that tree doesn't have any shade..:)
And i'll give your town a 8/10

@thethethethe I love the Rockets Revenge pallete - it looks really spooky and fitting for the game.
Here is a map from my hack. This is Reyfia Town, a small mountainous retreat, where the monks from the monastery in the hills above come and tend the gardens.

Yeah xD Thats some nice work thex4(your names to long to say) Its really good the night pallet, But the map itself could have a few paths on it otherwise love it. the grass should have sections not all scatted around the place.

Well, I'll just try to be around this thread a bit more often since I'm not hacking for now, cause I want to help people improve their mapping, and, who knows, maybe this could also help to improve mine as well ;)
I'll just post something about the last five published maps...
cooley(Route Map): The left part of the map is pretty original, with all those "empty spaces", however there seems to be too much empty space at some areas (close to the mansion, close to the sign and close to the route's entrance), I would have used a bit more flowers (or at least, some of the road tiles) on the last two, and maybe extend the "lake" a bit more to the north and make it like the player wouldn't be able to reach the important person on the west unless they were to take the correct way (teasing the player? Maybe... :badsmile:)
The small patch of sand also has a problem because in that place you'd need a sand tile with a turn to the right and a turn to down... I think there isn't such kind of tile Hope that is somewhat understandable -_-
Overall, a decent map. I guess the grass is one of the things you have to add later.
Rating->8/10

However, I don't see anything strange on the mapping, maybe all the roads are a bit too wide, I'd go with variation.

Corona(Coron Town): It would have been better not to make just a square border with trees and then fill the inside, you should have played a bit with more trees so it wouldn't be so square.
The green plant from D.Patch is pretty confusing, one could mistake it for a cut tree by how tall it is.
Other than that, the map is not that interesting (yes, I know it's the starting town, hopefully the next town or routes maps will be better)
Rating->6/10
Cartman(Route 660): Some similarities with thethethethe's maps on that map, however, you seem to have used a bit less tiles variation, so I'd suggest to take a look at thex4's map to get some inspiration (you could use the road tile if you need more variation on the middle of the lower left part of the map)

too brightly colored and some tiles have no use there, for instance, the ledges... also, wrong usage of the ladder tiles there...

Celebi_XD(Route2): Good to know more people are into the "sad" palettes as me, but anyway, I'm just here to judge the mapping :P
It certainly looks original, and nice for just being the second route in the game. However, regarding the problem destinedjagold spotted on that map. Just look at all your ledges, they are all either pointing down or right, so we aren't supposed to go from the right to the left, is that the way it should be? In the end, I think you have overused the ledges.
Also, yep, you should create your own "going down" stairs, those you picked don't look that good on the map.
In any case, I like how you used different tiles, and how it seems the map has different "areas" within the same map, just put a bit more of effort into the tile fixing and it will be better.
Rating->9/10
Kristian(have no idea map XD): It is a bit small to be considered a forest, and it should have a bit more of road tiles if it was supposed to be a Route Map, but still, I like how you distibuted the trees and grass around (sounds as if you've been paying attention to Marz' mapping tutorial)
The road at the north is a bit too wide, though.

Ummm i like your maps Kristian;)
The only thing is that the grass look quite scattered,
so it would be best if you put the grass in different places

The maker is on PHO, can't remember name.
Anyways, I see some errors. I can tell you edited route 1 too, by looking at the way the Grass is positioned.
8/10. Try not to make the Grass in a square shape. The people playing can easily Get past the grass
without batttling wild pokemon. Like I said 8/10
@prof.9: Please don't make a remake, And we all know how ecruteak City looks like. You just changed the tiles.

Zoomed x2 in AM, I suppose, then PrintScreen command and cropping in Paint, but IDK. Anyways, I would use different palette colours (more bright green) and roof tiles on the gate building. Maybe the blue house should have a window. Anyways, I see no big map errors at all, except the small trees, you should fix them. I like the map overall, so I give it 7,5/10.

In a-map the flower tiles all look like that,if that's one of the thingies you saw.(I edited the map in paint to make it look the way it appears in the emulator)

I love the trees.., but the grass is brightly colored, though... Some mountain and pond edges' errors are to be seen... The right side of the map is kinda empty... The rest is looking awesome...

I am not really a fan of DP pre-maps (In fact, I'm kind of sick of them). For one, you really combined 2 maps. Also, it stays fairly true to the original, which is a bit of a problem. The grass in the route is way too uniform. You need too add spaces in between some grass tiles, and you also need to make the patches less square. Besides that, I also noticed some errors, too. Down by the shore, there are a couple of sand tiles. Also, the trees by the shore need to have sand under them. There is also a less noticible error involving the 2 story house. The roof tiles above the 2nd floor windows need to be fixed. These tiles have the top outline of the windows, and the tiles you used were for the door when you make a 1 story house.
I will not knock the map for using Zel's tileset, but I will knock you for using it. It is always better to use something that you worked hard on, rather than a straight ROM base (Which means at least edit it a bit).
So, in my eyes, that map deserves a 6/10.
Anyway, now onto my map.

I really don't like how the trees are fashioned, it's just, ugh.
The fence between the two houses next to the Pokemon Center looks too awkward, replace it with a long tree or something. I really don't like the overall fashion of the brick roads you used, this just look sloppy. I'd suggest you make the road start in the city and make the road leading out to it just grass so you won't have that ugly skinny strip sticking out of there. The rocks, bushes, and flowers on the southern part could be more uniform. And also NEVER use the default blue houses for entire cities/houses, they look VERY ugly! Try using the purple house from the sevii islands, it works well with ocean-related maps like Olivine. However, I do love how you make use of one of those route house tilesets to make the lighthouse. It looks very nice.
Overall your map could be more neater and planned out; not everything just mushed together in one pile.

@Poke-Roy: Your map is good and looks original, a little tiling error(one of the trees near the house with the two doors, to the left and a little bit down) and maybe fill up the space behind and below the Pokemon centre, then it should be really good! I'll give it an 8/10.

I don't really think the rocky path fits Ecruteak.

A pretty small map, so that doesn't allows us to see too much creativity there (I'd suggest to avoid posting such kind of small maps, usually from the starting town, they tend to be boring usually)

This one is a bit more interesting on the other hand, but, instead it has many aspects that you should improve. I'd use a bit more the lighter grass path, if it's supposed to be a town (maybe the ground path would work?)
But, definitely, you need to improve the sea on the south of the map (add rocks there, they'll usually make the maps be more filled up with something), and the exit to the northeast (a bit too empty to my liking)
Just fill up those areas a bit more and it'll be good enough, but as I said before, the palette really doesn't helps (it's unnatural)

The map itself doesn't look that bad, but I'm not a fan of the bright palettes (however, this is more an opinion and wont affect the rating)
You could fill up some areas that seem a bit empty with some flowers tiles. But, the main concern here, is the eastern border of the map. I dont remember how Viridian is originally on FR, but you should put some trees there, just leaving it empty takes some originality, and, since the map is supposed to be a redo, you could add some extra tiles that weren't on the original. Well, that's what I think...
I also wonder about those grass tiles on the city, wild Pokemon there? Hmmm...
I wont rate it that good, because in the end, and you said it already, it's just a mod to an existing map.

Another starter town map, which means, small map and not that intersting. But, you are missing using one of the light green paths, at least to put something extra on the map.
Additionally, if you could, you should use the other blue colored roof tile for one of the houses. Who says all of the houses should be of the same color?
As I said before, small, I don't really like seeing the starter town's maps...

I see it as a very linear map, but, if it is supposed to be a remake map, then, it's obvious that it won't show that much creativity from you. Unless you have done changes to how R203 originally looked (I don't know, haven't played DP for quite some time)

After seeing the previous map, the first one of this pair of maps doesn't look that cool as the other one. I think that I don't like the fact of not having a path on the town.
I think this map turned out to be a bit too small, I think it should have been a bit bigger in relity (stuff is too compressed, that's my impression)

About the tile problem thethethethe mentioned (the one of the tree and the ledge with the water), I think that is something that you cannot solve with the Block Editor, so, I'd suggest you to move the tree one step down.

Well, this is in fact a pure remake map (it's interesting to see my tiles generating a DP map, though), so no kind of effort on the generation of a map. Besides that, there are many tiles errors on the sand on the south, and I don't think it's good to have such ammount of grass. Maybe it would have been nice if you added an extra to the map and put the grass a bit more randomly (or at least leaving some open spaces on the grass)
I think that if it had a bit more effort on adding some extra tiles, it could turn out as a better map.

What can I really say, I know you are a great mapper, and showing your maps around here should be something everyone else should see as a way to motivate themselves.
It's a very original map, with tiles variation on the exact measure. I may not like all of your tiles (or maybe the palette, a bit), but still on terms of mapping this is one of the best maps I've seen (only surpassed by that forest map you showed us before)

To begin with, it's a wonderful palette to give the impression that its nighttime, this just adds to the originality of the map.
Regarding the map itself, it's good to see two completely different parts on the same map, a small part with lots of green and trees, and a second, more mountainous part (specially, I liked the fact of seeing a few of your plans with the events images)
With the errors fixed this map would be really good, considering them it's...

It has interesting ideas, though I don't know why water comes from those closed doors.
For the rest, I always like variation on tiles for the same map, and this one has them. The only thing is that maybe that path on the east part of the map is a bit too wide to my liking.

Wow, now that was something different of what you've been showing!
I really love that map, it must've taken quite a lot of time to make it. It has something weird on it (that strange house with that roof we'd be able to walk below), though I don't know if the map itself would classify as a town (more like a forest to me)
By the way, just work on fixing the pallet for the bottom of the trees, the green there doesn't match with your palette for the green ground.
Add some flowers or those patches of flowers you used on the weird house more on the southeast corner of the map, where the PC is located, it'll make it look better.
It's really good, keep it up!

This starting town sounds interesting (the idea of the mapping), however the mapping does not correspond to it. I like the sea and beach part, that one is nicely done, but the town itself needs a bit more of work. I would have used more of those pined trees instead of the unnecesary and lonely headbutt tree, and... just two flowers? Usually the starting town should have a few more than that.
By the way, that thing sounds too weird to be a house. Hope you have something good planned for it, and it's not the town's Lab :P
It just needs more work on the part of the town, the beach and that was good, that's why it gets...

Thanks for the comments Zel. Since you've posted on all of them I think I have reason to post about your comments and explain myself. Most of these maps I was just making to see how my mapping skills are rated against other people, so 3 out of the 4, I made purely for this thread.
The first one. At first I used the fence but then I had a little skinny green path. So I removed the path from that spot and it didn't look right to me. So I made it the green bush(or whatever you call it) and I liked the look of it so I kept it.
The second and third I was never happy with. I'd do something and then change it to something else. Everything just looked 'incorrect' to me, I'm going to 'fix' the second one. When I'm happy with it I may re-post it(not likely), because I'm thinking of using that as a route in LoD.
Well, I haven't gotten that far in LoD that I can see if the border will have problems. I guess I'll find out when I get that far. I should also explain the arrangement of the trees. I'm sick of seeing trees in line and perfect and straight, in reality, have you ever seen that in real life?. They're all over the place.
Since posting that map I've made quite a few changes. I've taken Frostbites advice and changed the path a bit and changed the houses to the island, and some other little changes/fixes that have hopefully made it look a bit better.

It's a beautiful map
not too cramped or to empty its perfect.
the pallets really complement this well made map
The water at the top gives it a nice look
and i love the tree's at the bottom.

Why are you posting a map made by someone else. Anyway, I give it 9/10 only because the outside of the sandy path was left unpalette edited. It still shows the colour of the original grass. Other than that it looks pretty good.

Ive got to admit, its a really good map, well here are my things to say:

Reason:The map is fairly good, The tree's are set up nicely and
The maps not a complete square. But I think that more
things could be addedSuggestions: I would have liked it if you did not make the sea
that much empty, you could have put some rocks or
some other things in it, And try to not always keep,

What can I really say, I know you are a great mapper, and showing your maps around here should be something everyone else should see as a way to motivate themselves.
It's a very original map, with tiles variation on the exact measure. I may not like all of your tiles (or maybe the palette, a bit), but still on terms of mapping this is one of the best maps I've seen (only surpassed by that forest map you showed us before)

The map is pretty good, but it has some flaws. The map is very cramped. Unless this is the first route, I suggest you expand it, making the paths wider. Since this is a route, It will probably have trainers, which there is very little room for. There is also another layout issue, which is that you can only go one way in the map. This is a serious problem, as if you need to back track, and you do not have a flying Pokemon with you, you are out of luck. It would be highly beneficial to remove the ledge right after the top bridge. Now, there are also a few aesthetic problems, too. One is that the grass is in square clumps. Try making it a little less "shapened" and add tiles of regular ground into the patch. Also, you used two different path tiles. I suggest that, since this is a smaller route, you use only one type. Now, even though this map has these errors, that doesn't mean it is not good. On the contrary, it is a great map. It just needs some tweaking to make it better for actual gameplay.

It gives me the impression of an edited version of Pewter. Stuff has been changed, but some parts of the map look empty and a bit boring (didn't you have any other extra tile to put around on the secondary tileset?), or, maybe put some more trees around town?
It's respectable, but as I said before looks a bit like Pewter, even when stuff has been moved around...

Some maps are very big and have few stuff, this is the complete opposite, the placement of mountain and rocks looks a bit odd. Still, regarding Don Patch's "can only go one way", I disagree, though I doubt the way to make it work was not planned on purpose: from north to south, there are no problems, just jump a few ledges and that's it. From south to north (and to the house) the only way I see is by surfing.
I'll suggest that you review the map, it's not only about making the map look "nice", but it also needs to make sense (which is the harder part, since it requires you using the brain :knockedou)

Well, a small map but it looks fine. I don't really like the small green bushes, but, meh...
You could take the suggestion of adding rocks on the ocean, but I guess you'd only need them close to the border of the cliff (because I guess that's an ocean to the right, and since we wont surf over there, there's no real need for rocks (when we play on that map, we wouldn't be able to see them, anyway))
It's a small map made with custom FR tiles (which tends to bore me), so I'm not rating it too high...

Obviously, first thing that caught my attention on this map was the four contest-like buildings (hopefully they are not all the four level of contests in the same city, are they? that would be pretty silly). I am not quite sure about having all of them so close to each other and that (I'm not even sure if so many buildings of the same kind should coexist), but, anyway, as an idea it is interesting...
In terms of mapping it looks pretty good, there's also the idea of the cycling road to reach the town, which is something I don't see often around the maps on PC.
The only thing I don't like is the light-fluo-with-red-flowers path, it really disturbs the normal green of the ground.
But, overall, this map includes interesting ideas, and is nicely done, it gets...

Or also, using the wrong tiles for the middle of the bigger trees that stand alone), however I'm not that good at explaining those kind of small tiling errors (Don Patch is better at that than me), and in any case, I don't pay that much attention to them (still, they exist)
The map does not such that much creativity, you should try putting more grass in the middle road, not just to the left, because that road will most likely be avoided (and perhaps the trainer should have a battle quite early) I guess it's fine for a Route1...

You should also do something with the area that has that little sand patch (maybe add a few other sand patches to the side?), always add something when you see a part that contains always the same kind of tile, to add variation to your map.

Hmmm, even though the map's idea was fine, the mapping was quite bad (wrong tiles used everywhere, and I am not that much of a fan of "trees growing on sand" (unless they look like palm trees))
Again, try adding something where there is a lot of the same kind of tiles (I'm talking about the beach)
Fix those tile errors, and try again

Ah! What a big sized map! (Too bad the player gets to see about 3/4 of the map :P)
Anyway, it's very good (though I'm not sure if you should truncate the high grass tile with the green+border tile... Doesn't look as if it was supposed to be that way)
There's only one thing I think you should be adding, if the map is supposed to be close to mountains, you should be using more that lone rock tile around the map, it'll give you more variety, and in any case, it just adds realism to the map, don't you think?

2/10. It sounds harsh, but sorry, it's my opinion. So many problems with this map.
I'll list a few. I won't mention the windows in the top right hand corner but you should try and get new tiles to make it suit what you think it should look like.
That whole dusty path in the top right hand corner especially the pokemon center roof parts.
The black spot in the green roof.
The bottoms of the flowerboxes infront of the green roofed house.
Both Signposts.
Why is there a double doored house?
Most of the mountain edges.
A lot of the pokemart roof.
Most of the edges of paths.
The house with part of the pokemart roof.
I think that's enough.
You should take a good look at your maps and not mix tiles that shouldn't be used together.

Your map is kinda full of errors, I see what you were trying to do, but you should sometimes remove the grid to see your mistakes,
There are a whole bunch of mistakes like the paths, buildings etc.

I acutally enjoy this town quite a bit.
The Mountain level are very nicely done, and Houses are nicely placed.
The whole map flows and looks good.
There is one tile error though. For the back of the grass on top of a mountain, you shouldn't be using a mountain tile, there is a grass tile that has a little brown peice on the end of it you should be using.
Some suggestions:
1. The mountain level in the back, I think should be connected, it looks odd, just stopping then continuing again.
2. Eliminate most the use of the green stuff (bushes) in front of the houses, and to block places.
3. The house at the bottom is sort of out of place.

Wow I think thats a very creative map, but the block you used for the top part of the mountain is not the appropriate block that should be used,
else I think that the connections of the paths and the town look absolutely amazing, but i could see a few minor errors. But the map gets an overall rating of:

@neminoa: Anyways, I am not very fond of the map of Route 345 you made. Same for the town you made. First: Too busy. Then: Too buggy. All you can do is improve the maps rapidly. It's nice to let your ego grow on people who don't see a good map very often, but if you really want some improvement, you need some constructive criticsm and so I am here. Put less houses. Make the map look natural. My dear, inspire yourself with the real nature. Or at least with hacks of higher quality :P

@neminoa: Anyways, I am not very fond of the map of Route 345 you made. Same for the town you made. First: Too busy. Then: Too buggy. All you can do is improve the maps rapidly. It's nice to let your ego grow on people who don't see a good map very often, but if you really want some improvement, you need some constructive criticsm and so I am here.

Nowhere near as good as your last town map.
The grass is too organized and in very random spots.
The map itself is very unorganized, and has alot of meaningless areas.
The rock sculpture is not good.
Still have tiles error, especially the tip of every mountain, it shouldn't be a mountain tile, it's a grass tile with a brown strip on the top of it.

Good I like the use of the mountain blocks and the pals and mountain tile look great. But I could see some minor errors so be carefull. 8/10

Its a fairly good map, I like the pathways used, but like before you didnt use the top part of the mountain tile and there are a few errors I could spot out.

I don't mind this map, maybe change the grass seeing as it is a DP sort of style and with the house with the bridge. Fix that up so that it is only cliff stairs, the bridge makes it appear strange and also behind that house add some floor grass so it appears that the floor grass goes from front to back.
My Rating is a 8/10.

The different tiles are scattered everywhere. Ohwell overall i like your map. Its not square and I could not spot many errors but you used the wrong tile for the top of the mountain there.
Else I think its a very good try.

That is a really cool map, but there are some things i didn't like, like those little round bushes, and the fact that there are so many different colors of buildings i just don't like that. but that's just my opinion, other than that a great map 9/10

It misses out some Pokémon grass... and the normal grass is too unnaturally placed... and the map lost its cuteness of the GBC ages... 6/10. Sorry. I think this could be done nicer.

But the bushes and the flowers on the uper-right corner of your map is kinda, disturbing...
Btw, if it's a town, maybe you could add at least one more doorless house. But I don't know. It is just my idea, btw.

I think its a really good map, I think the connections of the tunnels are well made. Aside from that, I really like the tiles.

I didn't mean like those kind of errors. I just meant that you need to tile your tiles properly. And try not to make a map totally square. You need to try placing the trees in different shapes so the map looks original.
