Oh thanks guys...
I noticed the sandy tiles at the top of the Mountain and I fixed them!
Also I did not notice the fence tiles...Thanks for pointiong them out!
@Thethethethe are you saying that I need to add grass patches that cannot be missed?
or are you saying that you can just go through the grass at the entrance with the fence above it to the patch of grass at the end with the Mountain?
If you are,did you notice the ledge at the end?
well that is for a quick way to get back from the end of the map.
So, because of the ledge and the trees you cannot just bypass the detour!
Also do you think that i should put less flowers in?
But,thanks for the warm welcome and help!

I do think thethethethe meant was the maze was useless if the player can just simply go through this route...

RATING= 8.6/10

REASON= It's even more lovelier than the last map. Great job. ;)

SUGGESTION= Still lessen the flower tiles. :D

Ok the arrows at the entrance are saying that it is both the entrance and exit of the route.
The circle is where you battle your rival.
the arrow curving to the ledge is saying that you cannot go cheat through it!
The X is saying that you cannot go to a new map through there.
Hope that cleared thing up for ya!

Map Name: Electra Town

Map Game: FireRed

Comments: This is the starter town for my new hack, Pokemon: Legend of Thunder. The formation at the bottom left hand corner is a shrine to Raikou, and will play a major role in the games storyline, nothing else is really too special about the map.

P.S: Don't worry about the border block, I've got it covered. ;-)

REASON= lovely trees. lovely grass and what a lovely map. But the only thing that disturbs me is that circle patch of water on the grass. :/

The map itself is quite aesthetically pleasing, but there are a few flaws. To kick off, there is FAR too much grass. You should break this up, and allow shorter routes through the grass if the player does not wish to bump into many pokemon. Secondly, the map is far too contricting- The player should be allowed to take his own route, whereas here in certain areas the player has to stick to a predetermined path. Third, though this is a mere preference there is not, unlike the official games you have not given a direct link without grass to the starter town. Lastly there is an area you cannot reach near the top left. I would change those things to improve the map.

Map Name: Jigoku (Town)

Game: Pokemon Emerald

Comments: Though not entirely finished this is a map of the second town, Jigoku. I need to add new sprites for the houses, which will probably be in the style of Japanese A-Frame houses. There are no real exceptional features, apart from the house of Mr. Tullus who will play a part in the storyline, a cafe leading to a Shrine to an unspecified (at the moment) pokemon and an additional shop to the Mart.

REASON= A very wonderful and big map. However, some mountain tile error there. It disturbs my eyes @_@...

REASON= I love the pallete and the map. ALthough it's a bit empty and a bit weird that the player should go throught the cave just to reach the GYM.., but hey.., that's a player's challenge! ;)

Reason: I don't think its that much of a good map, they seem like good tiles(don patchs' tiles, am I right?) The map looks ok to me, but not that excellent. The map is a square. The stone formation looks good. and the placemnt of the ledges and the grass look good
Suggestions: Make the map less square!

Well, you could just make a tile.., but I'm sure it's around there. You'll just have to look closer at the available tiles.

Reason: I like the new feature of your New Bark Town. It has some originality and that's a good thing!
Questions: Wonder why the Map-Rating Thread's been opened again... :\ Oh well... Is the grass tile(the flooring) has a new pallete colour? It's very lovely.

Reason: It looks abit simular to (Where the 3rd Gym in Kanto is) And I dont like that you put pokemon grass in a City.. But the map itself if very good.

The reason it looks like the 3rd town is because it is that town lol.
It's vermilion city in the future, and tat cave you surf into the cave and inside the start of the cave is water so you stay on water and then you surf out, and you should still be surfing. It's like the Team Aqua Hideout in Lilycove city, in R/S/E.

Yeah dw about the cut trees lol i forgot the 1st gym you get to use flash not cut, so there going.
And about them tiles, I dunno the tree and grass came together when i was searching google images, honestly the whole time i've been a member on this site i've never been in Baro's hack thread, im sorry and i will remove those tiles.

Reason: The map is really good and so are the tiles, but there are errors with the ledge and there is a problem with the border.
Suggestions: Don't make the map square, looks wierd, also don't use too many hedges.

Reason/Suggestions: For one, as previously mentioned, the map is too square. Try adding some trees in the corners. Now, the map is also too busy. You put too many flowers and bushes, as well as some of the other ground tiles (the not-normal ones, flowers). Try reducing that amount greatly. Also, instead of editing Pallet Town, try clearing out the entire map and start from scratch. That way, it doesn't feel like a cheap attempt at a hack. There is another problem, and it involves the ledges. Though they are somewhat aesthetically pleasing, they are overhadowed by the floers, and the fact that they are missing the ends. Try adding the ends to the ledges, and removing the flowers. One other problem: the path is broken. By broken, I mean it is not aesthetically pleasing and it is split into pieces, which is a no-no in towns. Try merging them all together. Now, that DP-styled building in the side does not fit with the other tiles, so you might want to try replacing it with something else. That house in the lower-right corner looks pretty bad too, but not in the same sense. It just looks like it was thrown in there. It also has the potential to cause border problems. Now, the clumps of medium-sized trees on the side and bottom are a nice touch, but they should be layed out in a more natural pattern instead of a synthetic formation. For my final statement, I would like to say that the roofs on the regular houses don't really fit, and that custom ones shoiuld be edited in to fit the buildings.
Closing Statements: Maps should not be square, do not use an overabundance of greenery, and make sure it looks natural. By the way, I noticed you used the roof to my old Pokemon Lab. You should credit me for that (or remove it, please). Sorry, I didn't notice your thread.

Reason: Too square, some tile errors, and kind of confusing...
Suggestions: Fill in the corners so it won't be as square. Also, to me, the pallete makes that map look like a color jumbled mess. You need to close the ledges off too.

Reason: Im not feeling this map, the border isnt completed, the houses are to close, there is heaps of extra space, you shoulda used way more paths in the actual town, the gyms roof is to big in height, the width is fine. the flowers down the bottom are bad, i was taught to make flowers ALWAYS diagonally. Thats the only real problems I can see...
Suggestions: Maps to square, shouldnt do that. Dont make the houses so close and use your extra space :D

Reason: Sigh, Like it was said before those palettes make the mpa look sloppy, and unpleasing to look at. Most of the grass tiles are Zel's and those brick houses Look...Good! But need touching up. Finally, As said by a few people, add some trees in those corners!
Suggestions: Change some Tiles and some of the palettes, try not to make the map square as a few people said above. Fix the ledges too.

RATINGS: 710
REASON: THAT'S ONE BIG O_O MAP! Well, it looks okay and it does look like Sootopolis from my point of view. :D And nice, a new cave. Wonder what's in there. ^^
SUGGESTION: The white mountain border, when it touches the brown ones, I think the shade should be dark brown instead of grey... I think you should change that to havea perfect-looking map. ;)
Also, like thethethethe satetd below. Fix those bugs.

RATINGS: 6.5/10
REASON: Don't get me wrong, the map looks great, but it's pretty hard to screw up a remake of a map already in a third generation format.
From a gameplay perspective, In such a big town, more houses should be accessible than just one.
There are some errors on the corners of some of the water tiles. If you want me to point them out, just ask. Some of the houses have errors above their windows. They aren't really noticible when looking straight at a map, but in-game you can see them pretty easily.
But I did like the little add-ons, like the grass that isn't accessible until you have surf.

SUGGESTION: Fix up those few little mistakes, and make some more houses more accessible. Like DJG mentioned, the palettes of the mountains, are too far apart color-wise, if you understand what I'm trying to say. One's really bright and stands out while the other, is just dull and pale. They don't really work well together in my opinion.

Hey thanks a bunch guys.
Yeah i will fix up the shadin on the mountains.
And the error above the windows is coz there was doors there, i got rid of them coz im doing one house at a time then making it you can go inside, and so far i've only doing the players house.
So dont worry about the not entering to many houses, and the error on the windows.
And thethethethe is would be great if you could point out the water ledge errors things, will be easier to fix up if i no what to fix up.

Reason: The map looks nice, except for a few errors in the paths. The map is quite squarish and abit plain, you could've added some greenery.
Suggestion: Don't make the map too much square and try to add alot of greenery. Try to give the map some liveliness, and don't make it too plain.

Reason: The 1st map is really coo and very nicely done! Now the second one is cleverly done! I love how the forest looks more realistically made.
Suggestion: The first map, if you play it, you can notice some tile errors there. Fix them up and it'll be a great map. ;)

Reason: Very empty. Very bland and plain. Seems like an abandoned camp....
Suggestions: Add more livelyness to it, Make it look like someone actually lives there! Make something actually go on there.

Map 2
Rating: 1.5/10
Reason: So many headbutt trees and flowers. >.<
Suggestions: Remove many headbutt trees and flowers. Remember Flowers are only supposed to be diagonal to eachother not side-by-side. Add more of a natural feel to it.

Map 3
Rating: .5/10
Reason: Ugly! Horrid! Ok really now, Way too many ledges in un-natural places. Random grass spots, smallness, and weirdly placed paths.
Suggestions: Remove lots of ledges, Ledges are to be used sparingly. Not to be used willy-nilly as you have done. Place them in a natural pattern. Make the paths blend not just jutt out of nowhere...

All-in-all you need to work on your mapping skills some more,
But your not as bad as some be glad for that!

Also look at the map I posted, That is my starting town.
It looks nice does it not? It's not a bland flavorless map like yours huh?
Try to work on that ok?

Also no you are wrong, ROUTE 1 is actually a good map instead of what you made.
They though carefully about the placement of each ledge where you just slapped them around like they were part of an all-you-can-eat buffet!

Reason: The tiles look awesome, exspecially the houses and the lab im guessing? Good mixture of tiles and palettes.
Suggestions: WAY to many paths, just have one joined path that leads to every house and out the town, and there only like 3-4 tile errors, other then that a great map.

There are errors with the lakes, there are too many paths, the houses have a diagnol pattern.
Suggestion:You could only make one path, make new tiles for the edges on the water,spread the flowers a bit more insteadof putting it in one place.

Here it is and as always rate it from 1 to 10.

Even though alot of other people gave you 7's or 6's my mapping judgement is on a totally different form. First of all, the palettes don't mix to well together, I think you should maybe add a lighter more grayish palette? Not gray enough too notice, I mean move the palette too the side of the colour screen, it might look a bit better. I suggest getting the tiles in paint and recolouring them till you think it looks nice. Plus the tiles don't mix too well, provided all the green in the map, the brown houses don't make it look good, plus the building in the corner looks too modern and scientific, so it doesn't match either. You also added WAY to many paths, they should only go around the houses not into random places. So you should work on that aswell.

The houses are way too jumbled, plus the mountains are in random places and they look a bit wierd just sticking out there. Plus the tiles don't mix together, and the map is a bit empty. I think you should make it smaller and look at other peoples maps to see how they set them out, because this one looks like houses and buildings placed in random spots. If you fixed those errors I would probably give you a 8.

And no, i'm not bashing you, without bad ratings and comments no one can improve. Plus there are no differences with R/S/E maps then there are with FR/LG. Just different tiles, if anything at all, they should be easier :S.

Reason: Beautiful map, but some things need fixing (minor)
Suggestions: There are tile errors on all of your blue houses, that roof tile with the line should only go above the door, that line shoudn't be there in the regular spots. Also, your stair tiles, the right stairs next to the left don't have the shadow.

One has a gray part at teh left side, and the other one has no gray part.
Put the ones without the gray part after teh one with the gray part.

There are just way to many houses.
There is nothing that really stands out out to me that screams, " Give me a 10/10".
The town is too square.
Suggestions- Make it less square. Elevate some houses and add some flowers and maybe a park.

Well i did apologize for it being square and i think i said "don't judge it because it has too many doors".
I was planning on putting a training ground hidden behind some trees since the giant building was a trainer school.I added flowers and i didn't know how to make custom tiles so i had trouble with the park and decided to demolish it.
And a 7.5 is good enough for me.

REASON: A pretty nice map, for a route, that is. :P It is a very peaceful map. I love the harmony of the tiles and the colours and the surroundings. ;)

Its not bad, but its a little empty (kinda), and the path should have those extra ends on the right side.

Reason: Not bad, it remains true to the original map, I don't really like the custom tiles though and it's weird how there is one house that is different from the rest. Too much empty space.
Suggestions: Put some stuff in the grassy bits like flowers and wild grass. Don't use the fence tiles. Make the circle things near the cave bigger. Change the colour of the gray roofs.

second map: I like it too but it looks like dead end unless you need to go caves to get forward if its so i say 8,5/10
Third map is very simple: It has no flowers or anything like that so you need to put someting decorating into it 7/10

Reason: What can I say? The map looks like the most perfect starting town I've every seen xD
The palletes and tiles are also wonderful, they look great. The mountainous look makes it look great, nice work. I couldn't even spot a tiny error on that map.
Suggestion: No suggestion, as the map already looks very good!

Second map:
Rating: 9/10
Reason: The map looks good and the mountain look on the route makes it good, The map looks great! I also like the greenness of the map.
Suggestions: The map looks great, the only thing is that there are abit few empty places so try to keep everything used up. The grass also should be in patches, and groups so don't keep the grass seperate, try to keep them in bundles xD

FIRST
Rating: 2.5
Reason: Considering the quality of your other maps this one is really bad. Don't have a square border for water. Don't use those house tiles at all.
Suggestions: Start again, there are too many mistakes to fix.

SECOND
Rating: 6.5
Reason: Looks great up til the mountains. Which need to be re-done, always have another layer of mountain over the cave entrance otherwise it looks like it has been chopped off. Thickness of the paths IMO is too large.
Suggestions: Fix the mountains and add more flowers.

THIRD
Rating: 8.5
Reason: Very good, the mountain entrance needs another layer though.
Suggestions: Use a different house.

Description(or whatever): I edited this to look better now
and sign is supposed to be unreachable
It's edited pallet town

Rating: 2.5
Reason: Lots of tile errors, pointless mini-mountain. Flowers arranged incorrectly. Too much empty space, pointless fenced off tree.
Suggestions: Start again, practice a bit more before you post again. Next time don't attach the picture, host it somewhere.

Suggestions: It looks great but IMO it would look better with a different pallete and tiles but that's just my opinion and if I were you I wouldn't take it as the majority of people here like those kind of tiles and colours.

Reason: VERY nice. The only bad thing is the pointless ledges.
Suggestions: Same as the first.

Well, i took took some of your advices, and i hoped these are better.

Map 1:9/10 The palletes look great and it does make sense for the beggining town but why it the top and right just trees?
Suggestion:Reduce the number of trees.The ledges screw up the end of the map.
Map 2: 9/10 Once again great map but the ledges should be placed in another place that makes more sense.
Suggestions:Think about where you're going to put the ledges.

Wow the palletes look great and pleasing. Like dshayubasa said,you have pointless ledges.But then again other than making the path longer,what point do ledges serve?With the exeption of not going back of course.
And thanks for the tip dshayubasa.
It would just seem to empty to me if i just made to little ledges.
I was also thinking of making the tiny stairs like G/S/C tiny stairs for the ledges but i wouldn't know where to put those.

Reason: It looks okay for a starting town. I like that you added gardens, but if I were you I would make them smaller and add more houses.

Suggestions:

Make the gardens smaller.
I see a bunch of tile errors regarding the fences.
If I were you I would make it so the map is not so square: make the trees jut out or something.
This is just me but, why is that lake there? Is is raining a lot that town?
Finally, add more house.(PS: When you are designing a map, I find it better to just make everything black and start from scratch. Otherwise you can sometimes tell what the map is based off of.)

Reason:The map has good tiles but not only are there a few errors some oh te stuff just don't fit with the map like the blue house and the bush(s) that looks like it has legs.
Suggestions:fix the tiny errors and remove or replace the blue house with something else.

Reason: Bad. Very annoying map to play. Nothing really going on in the map and it's too long.
Suggestions: Add more stuff or make it shorter, but you should probably just start again.

SECOND:
Rating: 3.5
Reason: Little better than the first one. Still two empty the ledge path that leads to the cave entrance doesn't make sense. The border of a cave is not black.
Suggestions: Change the border add more stuff, make the ledge path possible.

THIRD
Rating: 8
Reason: Awesome! Only problem I can think of is the lack of grass.
Suggestions: Maybe add some more grass.

Itman i did that because i just don't like simple routes.
Sure it's the first route but it doesn't mean it should be an easy road.
I just like obstacles in the way itman no matter what the route or city/town, etc.
Just personal opinion.

I don't mind this map, might I recommend you fill in the space behind and to the right of the bike shop, the signs (wooden) probably need to be moved around and the water next to the Pokemon Centre seems to be small. Maybe connect the lakes together and then have bridges to walk across. Also a minor error, that I spotted is the tree behind the house at the bottom right hand corner, it has no stem.

I'll give this map a 6/10.

PS. I am tough judge also xD

Reason: Well it looks like a good map, not too much squareness and looks ok. There were a few errors which were spottable and the error near the bike shop which was clearly visible. There was alot of emptyness in the map, like Blazichu said, you could've added some flowers around the houses...anyways looks good
Suggestion: Don't keep it too plain and simple, try to use your imagination alot more....

Reason: This map is great. It has a wonderful layout, just the right amount of detail, and no noticible errors. The size of this map is also wonderful. the shape is great, though it is a little square. This is an excellent Nintendo-style map.
Suggestions: Definantly change the tree tiles. Peyi's tiles have many shading problems, as well as some problems with the shape. You might also want to make the buildings on the lowest part of the beach a little wider.. The one to the left, add one tile to the left. For the one to the right, add one tile to the right. you could also make the mountains of the beach a little less square.
Final Comments: This map is really good, and I can't wait to rate more from you. :)

Reason: The mapping is done really great. The palletes and tiles are very good for a beach styled map. I love the shape and layout of the map, it looks like the perfect starting town. Great work!
Suggestions: Don't use amny of those red spot tiles, use them in the places which are necessary the most. Make the houses in the bottom in the sandy area alittle bit wider, since they don't look very good looking small.

Reason: Nice work Don, I like the way you've used those tree tiles in a nice scattered way, which makes it a great route. The advanced type of tiles you've used are great. The only thing is that the paths are used like little dabs only.

I don't mind these maps, they look original. The only things I don't think that suit it are the grass tiles and how you have minor gaps between the beaches/sand tiles. Maybe just connect them up instead of having small gaps inbetween.

Hopefully you take that into consideration.

Critique: As far as a route goes, it's somewhat... strange. It's a little bit too small, and the actual shape is a little odd. My main problem with it is the extremely monotone palette. While the shapes of the trees, grass, etc. are fantastic, the colors really need some work. Perhaps making the trees a much darker green and making the paths more brown would make it look nicer.

for a first map this is not a bad attempt, advanced map takes time to get used to.
The things I thank that are wrong with it are that it is a square, and that the player could avoid the grass id they so do wish.



(also, this is irrelivent to the discussion, but why was my previous post in this topic deleted? I take art, and I have worked on numerous games up to this point, so why is my oppinion taken lightly and removed? Its an insult more then anything.)

Comments: I went ahead and fooled around in Advance Map a little today, and this is the route I came up with. I discovered Pokemon Hacks last year, and ever since I've always wanted to give it a try. I suppose mapping is as good a first step as any. (This is my first route map.) This route was made "for fun", and isn't intended for any hack of mine. I used a Rom Base to spice it up, though I forget who it was that made the base. (Probably not good, but to whoever made it, good job with it.) (The random bush to the left of the lake was supposed to be a cut tree, but I'm still learning events. Eh.)

Rating (map one) 7/10
Reason: Looks nice, but would be tedious to travel though.
Improvments: The route could be left generally the same, but you could remove a part of the ledge next to the pond to allow a shortcut for people with surf.

Rating (map two) 8/10
Reason: I like the map but it has a lot of unused space.
Improvements: you could add a few smaller paths between the houses, and add some bushes, small trees, or flowers to fill up some of the empty space.

I know the question was not directed at me, but here is my go at some of your tileset errors (circled in red)

The tips of the jump ledges had special end; use them.
The thin trees have a special tile for when they are clumped up.
The stair should really only have one stair with shadows.
You are missing the end of the tree.
Finally, in the border block section, it will not match up correctly. For trees, you should put the tips of them (the point) at the bottom and work your way up from there.Overall, its not bad, just do edit the map a little bit more and you will have a great Route! :)

Thank you bob_saget! Those were just some basic. The shading around the tress is wrong a long with the grass. That tile with the black spot in the middle is used to signify a hidden item.

Critique: It's definately not bad; you've got the right idea going, and the general layout is good. It just seems a little... basic. I mean, all you've got are trees, grass and flowers :/ . Try adding some bushes or smaller trees.

Critique: To put it simply: it's too empty. Remember that walking across lots of empty space on a small screen isn't good at all. Also, there are far too many tile errors (look at the trees and windows) for it to look good. I wouldn't really consider this a 'pass' (as reflected in my rating), as it doesn't satisfy the criteria for a decent map.

The thing is that it was that size when I downloaded the ROMbase.
Plus it's bigger than the normal LITTLEROOT TOWN.

Map Name: Kakariko City

Map Game: Fire Red

Comments: This is a rendition of Kakariko City from Ocarina of Time. I tried to model it best I could on the original Kakariko, while still keeping a "Pokemon" feel to it, if thing exists. I also had to make sacrifices to practicality, so this is obviously not a 100% accurate map. I'm still not totally satisfied with this map, if I had the ability I would have created a custom tileset to adequately recreate the city. I also have two problems that I was hoping criticism from this board could help clear up. You might notice two irregularly placed sign posts, these were placed simply because I could not find a way to connect the two mountain sides that didn't seem out of place. Currently, I think it might just be a problem with the tileset, but I could be wrong it has happened before. :P

Map 1: 9/10
Reason: It's extreemly well done with few tile errors, and it is very comparable to Kakariko City. Occarina of time has to be the best game i have ever played.

Map 2: 8.5/10
Reason: I dont like it as much, but still it has no tile errors that i can see, and is comparble to Kokiri Village.

Great work.

1. 7.5/10- I think it has the basic ideas there but the ledges throw the map off, there are way to many unnatural ones. It is still very good though

2. 6/10- Very nice but the mountains are way to flat, make them look real. The grass looks like Game-Freak mapped it, make it look like something would want to live there.

Rate: 8/10
Reason: I like the use of the edges there, they look quite good. The pathways look good, nice work!
Suggestions: Theres too much use of grass in your map, you should not use too much grass. Try to add some more things in it like rivers, ponds etc. rather than those grass.

Second map
Rate:8.5/10
Reason: Nice map, I like the mountains and the ledges, but as the previous map you've used too much grass.
Suggestions: Look above xD
