Ooo a pokemon Red map.
Rating : 8/10
Reasons: Its a nice route, but it seems quite empty and you can get from south to north without having to fight a single pokemon. Its pretty empty, so you should add more things and creation to your map.
Suggestions: Try to not make the map empty, and also add some more grass. I think thats about it..

Anyway here is a Pokemon Red map. It is my first version of route 135:

Rating: 5.5/10
Comments: The map has a good base idea, but it has quite a bit of problems. For one, the blocks of trees are very unnatural and just aren't very pleasing to the eyes. Editing the blocks to put them in a better shape could remedy this. Adding some more could also help. Now, the grass should be much more plentiful. The few patches that you did add are very random, but not in the good way. Grass needs to be an obstacle that the player has to pass through, not just a side area that you go in as you please. Speaking of smaller plants, flowers are not-so-good. There are just too many in this map. You should definitely remove a lot of them. Now, for the shape. The top of the map looks good, but other than that, it is too bland and square. Try adding areas of the cliff that protrude from the side, like a plateau. Adding some ledges aren't a bad idea, either.
Closing Statements: The map is okay. A little on the mediocre side, but just try to fix it. I also did take into account that the map was done on Red Version, but I did not include that as a part of the score.

Reason: Well, what can I say? Its a map full of errors, sorry. First of all, the map is in a square shape, it shouldn't be in a square. the hill tiles are also placed in a wrong way, without the whole hill! You placed too many grass tiles, and you filled the whole map with it. You could've added something else, rather than covering the map with only grass. You could've added pathways, water etc. The hedge dosen't really go with the map, it makes it even more wierd. The pathway inside it also has tile errors. So, sorry.
Suggestions: Well, first of all, you need to make the map less square. Add some more trees, or something else :) The mountains aren't done in a correct way, fix them! Remove the hedge and the grass, and add bundles of other stuff. Good luck!;)

the mountain tiles are also placed in a wrong way, without the whole mountain!

The name is HILLS! It is supposed to be so!

Hi all,

Could you have a look at my maps? They're basically the first maps I've created, so all feedback is appreciated!

Oakwood Labs is the start of my hack's adventure, leading to route 1, which goes to route 2. The routes are quite small, but since this is the beginning area, it won't be too bad.

My whole hack will take place in one giant park, so the scale is a bit smaller. There aren't any villages or towns, but outposts and resting spots. I've always been confused how so many villagers can live in 2 tiny houses...

Also, I've tried to use a rombase from PHO, everything worked like a charm, until I saved and reloaded. The tiles were all messed up, anyone know what might have been the problem?

for first maps they are really good, even better then some peoples 10th map...
i dont see any tile errorss there, just in the mountain at the upper left corner on route 1, it is not done right but i think that was wanted by you right?
well i cant find anything bad in this maps except for what i just said and that they are really VERY small^^ Route 1, as first route.. ok, but you cant call route 2 a route! you dont even have to wal kthrrough grass (ok, 1 tile...)

for first maps they are really good, even better then some peoples 10th map...
i dont see any tile errorss there, just in the mountain at the upper left corner on route 1, it is not done right but i think that was wanted by you right?

Thanks for the kind words Neti. I guess I could expand on route 2 a bit. It's basically only there to serve as an event spot and an entrance to the cave. But that's no reason the route itself shouldn't be nice to walk in.

I'm also considering removing the fences+roads, they're only there to mark the transition, but ingame they look a bit off.

Also, don't know if this is the right place to ask it, but I'll give it a shot: does anyone know of a nice rombase for FireRed which has wooden houses and a nice foresty look to it? Thanks.

Comments:The double lake is for one reason.
1 is for people and the other is said to have Kyogre sleep at the bottom.
They call it Kyogre's Pond.(It's deeper than the other)

In the comments, it was actually supposed to be a double Pond.
So I'll post this with the double pond if I get a rate or two.

does that map has a connection map towards directions right and up?
If it doesn't have a connection map direction up, then you could spot a border error.

anyways...
RATING: 7/10
REASON: I like the map's simplicity, though I'm confused if it's eeither a town or a route...
SUGGESTION: Remove those ledges for they're annoying in the eyes... :\ Also, fix the tree on the top-most part of the map if there's no map connection towards north.

I shall do so.
I got confused if I made the top tree how it is like the rest on the top and on the bottom for the route, if it would show an empty gap when I test it.
Also, it's just a two-housed town.

The map looks nice now, however...

RATINGS: 8/10
REASON: The 2 lakes kinda disturbs me... Other than that, great job in the map.
SUGGESTION: I think a little path between those lakes would be appropriate though...

Reason: I like what you have done with this town, everything is even and looks very peaceful. It's an above average map.
Suggestion: Make the lake at the bottom one lake, remove the fence and replace it with trees or Fence/tree pieces.

SUGGESTION: I suggest that there should be a map connection down south or else another borderblock will occur...

The reason why I didn't like the second edited map is because the lakes are very close to each other and by nature, those two will overflow and will turn out to be one big lake.

Reason: They mountainious valley looks awesome! It's very complicated and has good use of the mountain tiles, just the way I like it. The pathways leading to the valley and to the next route looks great. I like the way you placed all the buildings and houses especially the gym. It looks like an original map, with added goodness and sweetness.
I also like the way you placed the trees, neat!

it looks really nice to me. i like the pallette and the way you placed the towns. the different colored water shouldnt be in a circle like that, and maybe you should divide the main island into two isslands, that would look even more interesting.

It's... nice...
It's really like the anime and... well... hard to comment on.
My eyes hurt because of the brightness but... It's mainly good.
It is a bit hard to make the rest of the forest because the anime is well... Not very explanatory.
I like the lake... and...uhm... well... all of it.... xD
Rain...! On Route 1 weather... :D... Well, you know that already I guess...

First map:
Rating: 8.5/10
Reason: Oh it's a very nice remake of pallete town. I love the palletes and tiles, the map is also very good. I like the way you used the trees and the mountain tiles, they're placed in a very nice way. The river in the middle of the map also looks very good. The way you placed the lab on the top, looks nice. So does everything else.
Suggestions: I could see a few (only 1) error, so you better fix it up.

Second map
Rating: 9/10
Reason: I love these complicated route maps, especially this one in particular. The trees are placed in a very nice way, and it makes the map look better. The way you used the mountain tiles looks also good. I like the stairs/ladders leading you down, very nice! The ledges are also used in a nice way.
Suggestions: Don't put a different tree below a tree, place the same type of tree. The base of the trees look different.

ok, first its really good that you didnt make a square map, the shape is really nice. you also used the mountains in a very good way. at some place they appear a bit straight to me but theyre good all in all. as you already said the map is a bt empty, do add the path like you said and also add trees (small and big ones), bushes, flowers and rocks to the town, but dont overdo it.
the ledges at the gym seem a bit senseless to me and they look strange anyway. you could place another building there.
anyway, you should place more buildings in this town. not all of them have to have a door, but a it would make more sense if there were more houses.
the house in the upper right corner was anice idea though, but still it looks kinda funny... you should thin kabout using other tiles or making your own ones to build a bigger house.
rating: 7/10
suggestions if you put more stuff in it i would give yyou a 8/10. and also think of the other advices i gave you. and dont post another map here where you say "t is not complete, ill add a path..." and so on. pleas epost it again when you finished it, i think it will look great then

it connects to a sacred wood where you rescue the professor and a route below to the 2nd city :p oh yeh and that isnt a gym it is an unused building that is meant to hanve been a gym previously.... your familyu owns it and uses it for storage

Map Game: The Region Map of Duuo for the future hack: Pokémon HelioSun (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=133801), a FireRed Hack

Comments: This is, as stated, the region map for the land of Duuo. The game is planned to be pretty long, filled with events, sidequests, long routes, and bustling cities and towns. There are two lakes featured: Light Bay (left) and Poison Lake (right). Of course, the blues are towns, the reds are cities, and the green dots are special places. However, you may be wondering what the yellow is, they're "secret places." spoiler, spoiler! LOL

Edit: The lone city that's a big, red square is only accessed by boat. That is why no route is connected to it.

Okay, well, if you mean the two errors with the trees down the bottom, it is literally impossible to have both water's edge and tree tops as they are the same level. I actually have two hidden items on the map, and as for the emptiness up the top, you should've seen it before I made the ledges and the boulders :P. I'm thinking of making another house up there though.

wow dude how are going to put so many cities/towns into a firered hack? i counted them and came to 34... the hack im working on has 12 towns and thats just ok, could probabyl be one or two more, but not 22!
anyway i love the palette, its D/P right? and i like that you used many islands, many ppl forget about them
but why is there a circle of lighter water in the center? that makes no sense, it should have a shape like the island

Thanks for the compliments. I really hope I'll be able to make all of those cities. My hack is planned to be VERY extensive. And as for the circle of water everyone's talking about:

I prefer for people not to use the "land" and "routes" palettes. But if someone wants to use the towns, that would be okay.

Rating: 7.5/10

Reason: I think this map looks a large step better than your last one. You didn't overdo it which is a very good thing. The Pokémart looks a little off to me. If you could center that in with that little area behind it with a path leading to it, it would look really nice. Also, different kinds of trees would add to this map.

Suggestions: That Pokémart looks a little "off" and try not to feel limited with only one kind of tree.

In the first map there's a tile error with the house next to the nurse
Not much to say.
The grass tile is overly bright I would say...
In the cave, why is there a Cut Tree?
7/10 because the first town and the first route are a bit squarish.

These are my Maps. Please Criticize my Maps as I want to get better.

ok ill go into more details than dark lakitu

Town1:
The first i thought was: SQUARE!
and it is also empty at the top right and botto mleft, you could have easily avoided that by making it not square. but you could have also added some more flowers and rocks
i think the the tree tiles look ok, but the grass has a totally ugly palette, change that it hurts my eyes!
but the buildings are placed good (even if they all look the same, why not add the bigegr ones from pallet town?). i also like the path that connects them, but it has some tile errrors at the inner corners.
rating: 5/10
mostly because of thee grass palette and the squarish shape

Route 1:
Again: a square shape
The top part looks good to me, i dont know what you mean with game pokemon but the house lloks good.
the bottom and in fornt of all the center is a bit empty... you could have added ledges, trees or some rocks there.
and i have anopther small tip for you: after filling huge areas with high grass take the normal grass and place some tiles without pokemon randomly in the high grass.
rating: 7/10

Town 2:
This time the map at all is no square, but the town itsself is.
ive also seen some tile errors where the fences meet the cut trees and at the fences behind the building.
and the building placed on this little hill doenst look very good to me too.
again you should have placed some more flowers in the town to make it look better.
what i like about it is the lil maze you made up at the south exit of the town, that gives the thing more individuality.
i also like that you used many different types of houses this time.
rating: 7/10

Route 2:
Another time its a bit square, only interrupted by this two mountains.
you ccould have made the corners of the path a bit more round, then it wouldnt appear so squarish.
anyway, this were all negative things i see in thiss map, now the positive things:
i like the lake you placed at the top, it looks cool. and its only nice that you use cut trees, theyre a good addition to this map.
also the flowers are placed well
rating: 8/10


Cave:
Ok, if you tell this is not square and not empty then you should call a doctor...
i also agree with dark lakitu that there shouldnt be cut trees in caves...
so thats all, nothing more to say...
rating: 4/10

Reason: The map is way to square....it also has a lot of empty space.

Reason: There is a lot of unused space and a lot of senseless ledges that serve no purpose....(Top right corner)

Reason: The map is a lot better but lacks color and depth....It looks way to plain.

First: Noone will ever say something like "OH YOU SUCK and OHMYGODTHISMAPROCKSOMGOMGMGMGMGMGM" in this thread cause that is not the sense of it. some people might just rate your maps without giving you reasons, but noone will do something like this (i hope so^^)

Ok and now my rating:

Well you did my favourite mistake (which means i hate it): Your map is a square!
ALsso the garden or whatever it is part at the top looks like a waste of space to me and over-vegetated anyway.
WHat kind of door is that at your house? Does a small hosue like that have a door that opens automatically???
also the other two houses look a bit boring to me, and there should be at least one tile space between two doors if they dont lead to the same room.
and the path, if it really is a path is too big, looks more like the normal ground of that city.
and the bottom has too many flowers, way too many!
So ill give you a 4/10
Think about the suggestions/critics i made and change those things.
Maybe you would like to read a mapping tutorial, ive recently made one but there are also other good ones out there. Just go to the guidelines/tutorials forum

When you get rid of those, I say:

Map 1: 6/10 (for square-ness)

Map 2: 7/10 More detail, but still square

Map 3: 8/10 (water on the mountain? Cut, THEN strength? why)

Map 4: 9/10 Overall, better, but i dont like the FR/LG hoenn sprites, fix them up, or use the Ruby/Saph/Emerald ones, thay look better.
Map 5: 3/10 NO NO NO! Not good, square=fail, I dont want a mediocre map showing up in a nice game, cut trees, and no challenging maze?! Cmon now!

In the end, keep working at it, I suggest you read this here Mapping tutorial, it is awesome, and I learned ALOT from it

Wow, I like the region map. The land and the sea routes look well in place and it looks like the top of another region underneath it. It looks great! You could've also added some small islands. Just a suggestion.

I personally like this map, however I think you've overdone the bridges a bit; they're fine but there's just too much. Apart from that, great map.

Very, very impressive. Easily one of the best maps I've seen in this thread. I can't point out any one thing I like, because I generally love the whole thing. However, like has been said, the bridges are a little much, unless they have a point in the story. Second, I would use side-stairs for the depressions; they're not hard at all to insert, and make more sense.

Nice to see you took the critic seriously and overworked your maps! They look much better now!
They are not so squarish anymore, first route is still a bit but it is way better now.
the only map which has not improved is the first city (the bigger one). Did you change anything there?
Unfortunely i have a lot to do so i cant rate your maps and go into detail.

From the looks of it, there's a connection directed both North and South from that map, correct? :3

RATINGS: 8/10
REASON: I love the simplicity and the balance of the map. Though those bushes blocks the lab sign, what's it's use? :\
Also, the palletes are pleasing to the eyes. :)
SUGGESTION: Remove the lab sign if it's blocked by those bushes, or remove those bushes if the lab sign if important... :\
Also, make it less square... :\

well it's very obvious that it's a remap of viridian city. I would suggest trying to change the surrounding trees and mountains to something other than how they are arranged around viridian as well as a few more trees and flowers might help.
It is a little squarish, but I think that trees and flowers will help decrease that
overall it gets a 6/10 for the time being.

Ah, it's a remake of my map :3
Rating: * 9 * 8.5 /10
Reason: Looks good, It looks like a nice quiet starting town to me. The trees are arranged in a good way. The pathways are nice and the flowers add simplicity to the map. The sandy shore looks great. There was a small error on the roof of the house, but everything else looks fine.
Suggestions: Fix some of the errors and you're fine.

Also a really nice map! I really like the tiles and how your map looks all in all.
But there are some things that are quiet useless, like the ledge at the bottom right, the hill/mountain with the sign on it and the ledge in fornt of the gym.
I also think it would look better if you would not use so many diffferent types of paths in one town.
Another thing is that this huge building in the center doesnt really fit in there, all the other buildings are small.
Tile Errors: Small trees at the bottom right and the roof of the huge building where it meeets the windows (you used the roof tile that is supposed to be above a door)

REASON: I like the (region) map, it's very nice.
SUGGESTION: Use some darker water to make it more realistic... Cyan/Sea Blue hurts my eyes...

This map seems pretty good!
But...:
1. Too much empty space.
2. Grass in a city/town; don't do that, ever!(unless it matches up to the theme of the place)
3. A building peace as a bridge?(actually, that's not a bad idea, kinda matches as a bridge)
So...7/10

the bridge mad eof house tiles is a good idea i think and it really looks like a bridge!

Uhh, this map is way to square and empty. The mountain is unnatural, and I dont really see why you need the fences there. I also beleive the trees overlap eachother to the side, which you didnt do. Plus the flowers look too organised, and really have no point in having a path. Again the map is way too empty, you didnt use the tiles in such a way to make it seem a little less empty, huge spaces dont really make a map interesting. Plus, having the building as a bridge is a bad idea, it doesnt match the ground at all, and stands out too much. 4.5/10

It can, but I think it should be a bit more realistic, not like there going to make a pathway to a bridge, it would be much more logical if it were in someones backyard or near a forest, i think you get what I mean.

i think it is a cool idea but you should edit the blocks cause it looks kinda stupid with the roof and theres is a tile error between the two doors.

Hello everyone. Recently, I downloaded RMXP and decided to start mapping again. I used to do it just on paint and they were awful. This map, the starter town of my own region, Bilaso, is Youngseed Town.

The hero's house is the bottom left, with his/her father selling goods on his own market stall. Mom is also around, as a housewife. I think it's better to see the players parents actually together, instead of being a single parent! XD

That's my lab btw in the pic. :D I used to make tiles, I should be maybe get back into it.

Prof. Palm's lab is in the top left, and the grassy areas and pool are for his tutorial on how to catch Pokemon. So, what do you think of Youngseed Town, were budding trainers begin to bloom?

Thanks for all critique. I agree it's square, yet so is Littleroot, Pallet Town and Twinleaf, or rectangular, whichever. All the starter tows are.

Introducing Route 301. Nice little route. Paths cut into the grass are for trainer battles. I really like how it turned out. Again, squarish, yet I need help on how to make them less square.

NEVER MAKE SQUARE MAPS! That is rule No1 of mapping!

About the route:
except for the square shape of the map and the square placed grass it looks fine to me.
those trees in the grass to be selfmade, and they look good.

maybe add something in the middle

and the forest:
well i dont know if there is anotehr tree sort in teh rom youre using, but bigger trees would be cool i na forest, and maybe a bit more grass.

The snow-covered trees look really nice, but I prefer the brightness and color variety of the old town. I especially dislike how the three houses look the exact same, and the signs look out of place (I think you should've kept those tablets...they look more primitive, although only a little. They're a little too sleek to qualify as "stone tablets" >_>.)

Overall I give it a 6/10.

The top-right house...when you put the ledges right around it like that, when you box it in, it makes the oddities of the game's perspective noticeable; the house looks flat, like it's just a painting of the front and top of a house on the ground inbetween the ledges. Try putting the top ledge one step up.

Also, there are quite a few errors with the roads where you didn't use the tiles with the proper edges. Some of them seem like they could be intentional though (like around the high ground with the stairs).


Well, crap. I ringed the errors in but I can't post them because apparently the basic privilege of posting URLs isn't granted until you've made 15 posts. Oh well. You can spot them all if you zoom in on the high ground with the stairs, the lower parts of the roads and the lowest house.

Snuggle: Change the ledge in the top-left, or remove the tree next to the left-most house, as jumping down the ledge there will get you stuck behind the house, with no way out.

Hello,
does anybody know how big must be a region map (when you use Fly) in R/S/E/FR/LG?
I want a region map for Turquoise: Aqua Egg and I want to make it in D/P style.
If anyone can help me, please post. And answer it with pixels, not centimeters on inches.

When I finish the map I will post it here.

Its too square. Put some trees so it wont be a straight line. Why would you need a spriter???? You can map the base unless your talking about new tiles.IDK.

Here is my newest map, Mildawn City. This great city is home to Suchet Mansion, home to the wealthy Suchet family. It also has a port in which you can visit the snowy, Polarwind Island.

Here it is, I hope I've done well on this one. I believe it's my best yet. :D

i like the map too, but i think the palette gives the map a very sad atmosphere...
using shadow is also a ncie diea, i havent seen that before
and the shape and everything is really great, good job!

About my Mildawn City, I looked through your comments, and I am very pleased with them. Thanks very much for those. I couldn't really see what you were meaning with the trees, but I did eradicate a mistake on those. I changed the cut part of the city, and decided to add a secret house there. This also gets rid of the unnecessary path before the cliff. Now, how would you rate Mildawn City now?

wow that map is really nice!
you started with a nearly square shape and made a map with a really cool shape! the river is making the shape even more interesting.
since this map is complex, i was expecting many tile errors, but found only two (at the right end of the ledge and the ends of the fences are wrong more than one time)

this map gets a 8.5/10 from me

Seems like there's G/S/C style Berry Trees and Headbutt Trees.
If it is going to be Pallet, why is there a PC?
The pallette is a bit...uh....Well...It makes the PC and houses freaky...

Oh, and if you're wondering how I achieved this in a hack, the answer is: I'm not making a hack. These screens are from Pokémon Amethyst, which is being made without any ROMs etc. I think it gives me a lot more freedom to do what I want. But over at Game Dev, we don't have a map rating thread, and besides, there's not really much difference between a map in a hack from a map in a stand-alone game, so I figured I could post here.

really nice, thsi region map looks really awesome!
about the thing with the npc: he is undernetah it, this si an advance map screenshot. in advmap the sprites are always above the tiles.

Nice, I love the region, very nice and the zoomed in view looks very nice. The palletes also look very good. I love them! The tiles are also good, nice work!

Sorry if this is a little out of place, but how do you get the image of your town/route/city on here? I'm using EliteMap and AdvanceMap, so is there a button you push that allows you to get the entire image on here? Thanks!

Yes, you go to tools-->save map/event picture---> and insert the name of it.
But save it as .PNG or else it won't work if you have uploaded it.

wow that looks absoluteley ccool^^ if you are using a rombase or share your tiles please give it to me, cause i was looking for a FR rombase with ice tiles but couldnt find one!
the map itsself is really good i think: it has different levels with interesting shapes, the mountains have no tile erorrs an are not straight. no square shape, no tile errors (noticed none). i have nothin to cmplain about!
but i wonder where youll get when you break into the ice^^

all in all... 10/10

Wow, it's a really good looking map. I never noticed the ice tiles look so good. The map is nice and simple and the way you did the paths suites the map very well. The mountain tiles look great, and they're placed in a very nice way. Nice map!

Reason: I like the map when you look at it overall,
But at soon as i pay a bit attention to the details i noticed,
The cave parts dont really how should i saw fit in?,
For the rest its nicely done i couldnt have done it better myself,
I really like that you added a lighter type of grass/floor at the top,
And that you even if its a small map give a option to choose a location to go to.
Suggestions: You could try to pay a bit more attention to the small details,
As the pond doesnt have any nice edges around it its just cut off and that also go's for the cave.
Final Comments: I really like the map itself, But some things could have been done better.

REASON: I like the peacefulness of the town, the palletes are a bit bright, but it's nice. :3

Reason: I like it, although there are some errors easily spot able. I like the paths and the tree placement, but I don't like the mountain thing in the middle of the map. The PC is all messed up and you've got a problem with the border there.
Suggestions: Just fix up the errors...:\

I don't like the map because it is made from two almost completely the same halves. Like you'd make half of the map and then put it next to a mirror and then do some Marts instead of PCs,
IT DOES NOT LOOK NATURAL.

First half decent map I think, might be the start town for my hack. A few tile errors, Tree's when they cross over onto the mountain area.. (the sides of the tree's) I'll have to make a new tile for that. But eh, I like it. A bit of empty space, might fill it with something.. People, lol.

Reason: Looks pretty good, I like the use of several different tree types, the paths look nice too. I don't think you used the ledges very well though, and there isn't enough forced grass walking, but then again if you did do that it might ruin the map. Btw is this a rom hack or is this on something like RMXP?

I have the rom base from pokemon Fire Red (U), color follow to Pokemon Omega and tileset i got that in Shiny gold v5 :P

Pokémon Center I think it's bigger than pokémon fire red!

X-Buster: It is not a ROM base. Those tiles were stolen from Pokémon Omega (I say stolen, because Xiros does not want people using those tiles in other hacks).

Anyway, onto rating.

Rating: 6.5/10
Reason: Well, to say the least, it is still Viridian City, just with some new buildings and others rearranged. That said, it has a good flow to it. It also has a decent shape to it. Now, the details on the map are not bad, but they need work. Since this is a city and all,those DP flower patches don't rreally fit, as with the grass patches. The smaller trees (non-Cut ones) are also used in the wrong fashion, as they have a center tile. Now, there is one really wierd flaw. The patch of trees above the Youngtrainer and below the set of two houses, half of two trees is existant, and the other half of both of them is stuck in the building. I also noticed the complete left side of the map (where the mountains are) was left completely unchanged. Now, the last thing I noticed was that the building where the tree incident occurs is used wrong. That building should only be used for the gates between city and route.
Suggestions: Clear out the map before you make a new one, do not use route details in cities, use tiles the way they are supposed to be used, and make sure your mapping makes sense. Also, do not Xiros' tiles.

You're obviously using a translator, and I don't understand what you're saying.

I'm just telling you to remove the tiles and palettes from Omega that you used from the map and use the Fire Red ones or other ones that you are allowed to use.

Nice, I like the map. Even though I don't know how to rate Gold maps properly.
The map looks very nice and I like the cave in the corner and the lighthouse sorta thingy.
