Okay, here's some more maps for my hack of Gold Version:
Map Name: Azela Town
Hack Name: Awakened Legends

This is Azela Town, now Azela City! I made it much bigger and better. NOTE: The Radio Tower is an IMPORTANT part in my hack! Here's the other:
Map Name: Blackthorn CityHack Name: Awakened Legends

This is Blackthorn City, just like in Gold. NOTE: The Radio Tower is also important! Just because there's a Radio Tower in both doesn't mean you should lower your score!
I tried to make this town look kind of like the last sanctuary for the 'good' people. You'll understand more when you play my hack!
1. It's very nice, nothing wrong with it in my eyes...10/10
2. I like the simplicity of the map, but the part where there is a lone stair isn't right, so...9.5/10

It's a great tileset. Also a good, simple map. Nothing looks wrong on first glance, but that may be the tileset. It needs something to fill it out, because it's a little empty. Maybe any added people ingame will improve that. I really do like the basic outlay though, and the winding path.

9/10.

Really good map, the tileset is great, the shape is not squarish, and it really has the feeling of a starter town: not complicated, calm athmosphere...
the path is also really nice
i give it 10/10 mainly because of the tileset

Repost of RuralTown Village without the grid.

i promised you il lrate yours:
the map itsself is really good and has a very original shape, but there are a few things that caught my eye:
the DP Pokecenter has a lil error at it roof at the top left, fix that. the next thing is that there should be a path... it just looks like theres somethiing missing without it. another thing is that the coast is really staright, you dont have to make completely round or sth, but edit it a bit so it looks more natural.
the last things, which is not so improtant, is taht youre using the normal FR Tiles (except for the pkcenter), which are not good in my opinion (mainly the palettes). You should try Partial DP Base or Super DP Base.
Rating: 7.5/10

i think its cool too, but ther are some heavey tile errors where the rocks meet the land and the one rock between the ebach and the trees at the top left, which could have easily been fixed with the block editor. you should spend some time learning how it (the block eidtor) works.
the rest is cool to me, really looks like cherrygrove!

dont have much time, but i can tell you one thing: if it is not possible for th player to get into the water at the qhirl island map there shouldnt be a border/wall . it just doesnt look as good as if there is just water... and wow... many cave entrances^^

The route looks really nice, i think its perfect except for onee thing: how do you get up?^^

Easy to see that you used Viridian City and just modified it... when you do taht you should first vanish the whole map and start from the beginning, not leave parts of it.
the next thing is that i dislike the mountains thee pkcenter and amrt are on, they look really unnatural...
and there is a tile error at the bottom of the bridge where it meets the water, fix that one.
Something that is quite good at your map is that you used different types of trees in a really good way, many people forget it or mess it up...
and the shape of your map is also nice

Well, the point was so you couldnt get back up :)
Cause theres a river in the first town, thats the only way to get back without fly, which you get later in the game.

Town: 9.0/10
It looks superb! The paths are made beautifully and the tiles look great! I have a few problems with it though, a few tree placements look a little weird, the town is overly large and will look quite empty in-game and the tiles, while they look nice they're not very bright and Pokemon games are supposed to be bright aren't they? Well thats my opinion anyway.

Route: 9.5/10
Excellent placement of grass and the division with the trees good use of ledges too. The only problem is unless you open a path between the top half and the bottom half then the division on the bottom half is pointless and looks like it is only there to look good.

Its actually quite good if you forget about the tile errors. The size of the paths are not the same size which I don't like. The ledges are a little pointless. The mountains are pointless. If you get rid of the mountains and some of the thin trees and then fix it up a bit it'll look great.

Rating: 5/10
Although there is quite a lot of bad mapping the fact that you made it this is big is very impressive. The random grass, although it says in a lot of tutorials that it is good, honestly dosn't look good if you make it as random as you have. The placement of trees that hinders your path will get really annoying to the player and don't look good anyway. The lake is way too straight and a bit of randomness to it. Theres a few tile errors and bunches of empty space. The best part of this map is the top left hand corner.

It's been a while since I did some mapping so I decided to make this map for some practice. I might use it for my hack, but if I do it'll be modified here and there. I don't really like how it came out but I can't really tell what I don't like about it. Maybe its the amount of trees...? Well anyway please rate and be as critical as possible.

It's okay, but you should fix the grass with the fuschia trees

Starter Town
Preety cool Starter town, different from most ones ;). I realy like it, however the Stoneds look "Random". 9.5/10

Nature Village
Wow, nice big map filled with a lot of things ;D. The house in the water brings me back to Venice. Awesome! 10/10

Route 1
Nice Route, I hate routes because they're common And they Sound Weird. This route is nice, the mountain in the middle. however preety plain. 7/10

Path of Kayota
Sounds Cooler ;) Yeah! now that looks really cool. No complaints! You're a cool Mapper ;D.

You're Probably 8.5 - 9 level Mapper. That is so awesome, if I'm doing a hack, you're my mapper.

I have some maps here. Three have already been rated, but I want them all rated again. And with some thought :)
They are in the attachments.

Evergreen Town
Description: The starting town, the map is empty because it is the starting town, I tried to make it nice and simple for the start of the game. The river leads up to the other side of the region. Which can only be reached after you get a certain badge, even if you manage to get surf without it.

Route 1
Description: The route is nice and simple, you can follow your own path through the route, but halfway through you wont be able to get back. Though that was the point of the map, you cannot go back until you get fly. I used the ledges because these few towns are on a massive hill, which wont have much detail until later routes and towns.

Froma City
Description: Again a nice and simple town. There are a few mysteries behind the town, and in the top left corner lives the elder of the town. You get a bit of storyline from there. The river leads down to a massive lake. And no, it doesnt contain one of the legendary lake Pokemon.

Route 2
Description: This route basically sets off the complications around the rest of the region, the small paths that dont have much grass have cut trees, to prevent you from going across to quickly. The house in the middle is where you get fly, instead of flash, like the original FireRed. This is also where you battle your rival for the first time.

Rockham City
Description: It is a WIP, I havent finished adding all the tiles, which will include a path instead of that busy ground. The bottom half is the place where people befriend Pokemon, while the top is a town with no courtesy for any type of Pokemon. The gym used to be there, but when these conflicts started it left for a different place, which you will find later in the game.

Cant have six attachments ;(.

The maps go from left to right in the attachments, so make sure you know which one your rating. : )

Evergreen town- 9/10 because although its simple I dont see a river like in the description
Route 1-10/10 because a starting route is supposed to be simple and I love the fact that you cant return to your hometown.
Froma town- 9/10 its nice but meh not to my liking how the houses are placed. As an elder shoudnt he have a house in the middle and the pc in the houses place? Also I dont know if thats a tile error or a secret but 2 trees ar missing.
Route 2- Like you said its simple so not much to rate. 10/10
Rockham city-9/10 I like it but how does a gym get up an leave. Mabye the thing was wreked and all that stands is a platform where battle took place.

That was good enough right?

few errors down the right hand side
lots of the rocks near the edge of the land are cut in half or just have pieces missing
there is also missing bits of darkened water there too
hope that helps :)
will be an 8/10 when you fix that :)

Tha map is overall very good except for the errors all over the place. Once you fix them, it should look very good. I would also suggest you to use bridges of two blocks rather than just one block. The map looks very good though.

Remove the land along the left hand side, put in some rocky tiles around the trees.
Im not a great fan of remakes due to there's very little of peoples own thought gone into it.

well, my reason there was because i was bored of all the old **** like the cave tiles. it's mount moon, it's full of fairies, and abnormal stuff should happen in the crater, which is what I am working on, therefore, I added trees.

so what about this one? this is route 4 redone, and where that second cave entrance is where you get to the secret cave. it is normally blocked by a guard until you get misty's badge, but i don't know what here flag is yet, so it can't be used yet. the thrid cave entrance is of course the exit.
and i also redid the secret cave.

yeh, that's mainly cause it's the lead up to the crater...where you battle a shiny clefable...which has special moves...but only if you've beaten misty. ;P

reason: It's way too square. there's no exit. the small tree tile is wrong. and you don't need a pokemon center and a pokemart in a starting town, as the lab should have a healing machine.

Anyways, the map is what counts. It's totally square though, not what it should look like. It's fairly empty and I guess that's all I can say about this map. You should definitely improve it (and the pallete)

Well, because it's a rest stop, maybe the interior of that PC won't heal ur Pokemon, but has beds for people to rest in...maye heals them...
I love the palette!

The gym is a Ghost type Gym (See the skull-looking face?)
And why the mountains? Because it is a ground type gym. (Dang... I thought I was detailer... I'll explain this fully next time I post a map...)
Anyway... Its a town called Ruwi Town. The route on the right is the east side. The reason its a east side... is because... A move deleter lives there with a wife and no kids. XD
This move deleter is known to give details almost identical to God's... Nerdy Husband...

Wow, that is the most eye hurting map ive seen. How many flowers are there? o.O
Theres also cut off rocks at the beginning of the map. Plus, again, too many flowers. The maps is way too big, you couldve done so much more with it. :/ 2/10.

You changed the palettes of the rom base too much, and the trees stick out too much. But that not your fault. The gym is a bit wierd, the roof would of fallen off if its hanging out the side o.o Plus the roof is way too small for it to look natural. The whole map is kinda empty btw. 4/10.

mainly because it looks too crowded. that's the only problem i have with it.
the bottom house is over the path, so you could get rid of the hedge and put it back behind the path.
notice how you have moss rocks up against the water? why is that? i see no reason why there couldn't be an item on the ground in the bottom right corner?

Nice, I like the map. It looks nice and simple. The map does look alittle crowded though...you shouldn't make the map too crowded. The map looks very nice with the bridges and all. You should've used the other type of houses. But I like the map 8D

Overall, however, it seems a little empty and "short" for a "route". Also, there's no grass; I don't remember there being a route without at least some wild grass.

the second map has a bit too mcuch empyt space at the elft, but where do you find empty space at the first one? maybe theres some unsued space, but maps do need those places that dont serve a real purpose or they look unnatural
i think thats one thing i critisized at your maps: you dont give the player any opportunity to leave the path

Okay, in my hack, Awakened Legends, instead of the Kanto Region, (Which got destroyed! Yes! Wait, how good of an idea is that...?) there's a different region (no name yet) that is made up of islands. This is an island that is more of a...er...comfty one. You know? Well, anyway, there are two legendaries here. The bottom path leads to Celebi's Forest (not the name!) and the bridge leads to Moltrase's Cave (no name yet!)

it's a nice map, but i would recommend using the right tree tiles.
it looks a little crowded, try and have just a little bit of free space in the map.
also, try and distinguish the lab from the rest, so that it stands out as a 'lab'
i would rate...8/10

Ok RTW, i say...6/10

Reasons: the new doors dont go well with ur mark/poke center etc...,the wierd building in the bottom is left is ...well..wierd,and looks too big. The closed tree across from it has only 1 patch of grass on its left side....??,theres a wierd house with no door on the right,the sign put DIRECTLY ON the long building look...yes,wierd. I mean they look painted on?and more importantly what is the Mart doing with a mail box? -_- oh one more thing,and i olmost missed this...you overused the vegetation!Flowers,bushes etc are all over the place, not to mention it looks very clustered....

EDIT: lol,ynow wat? i think i was to hard on u ^^ i was just pissed kuz ppl rated my maps suxish -_- u derserve an 8/10

Okay, in my hack, Awakened Legends, instead of the Kanto Region, (Which got destroyed! Yes! Wait, how good of an idea is that...?) there's a different region (no name yet) that is made up of islands. The bottom path leads to Celebi's Forest (not the name!) and the bridge leads to Moltrase's Cave (no name yet!)

well, fix up the tile errors first. that's important.
get rid of that dark brown path
make that tree in the middle a clump of 2 or three trees instead
The PC and the Gym's rooves are too narrow, make them longer, it's ill proportioned
overall i'd say a 6.5, mainly cus of the errors.
(and you don't normally find grass in a city/town)

well, the water patches and the ledge don't make sense. why jump down a ledge if it goes nowhere?
try working on the squareness, that's the big old problem. make it special! work on a better placement of the tree stump thingies, it's either those OR the rocks that you should have on the map.
and the house really stands out o_o
i would say 6/10, but if you make those changes then post it again ok?

It looks good to me except for the building with the signpost out in front and the awkward windows... so 7.5/10 from me :)

EDIT: No, its just not in the center of the mountain, its off to the right.

it's just something about the house...i dunno what...try editing the brightness of everything else to suit the house. outlines of the house so they aren't as dark.

EDIT: oh and thethethe, 7/10...mainly because i cant see any paths! but other than that it is good

Tried that... I had another attempt at it, but it sucked. There are no other colors that are dark but not too light to screw everything up.

In that case.
The placement is very good, it gives the natural sought of feel, but it is a bit too small to get a detailed rating. I reckon some tree shadows will make it look better, plus your flowers should be a bit more organised, I don't care what mapping tutorials say, to a certain extent, they look nice being organised. Plus you need more :)

Incorrect sizes of buildings, inconsistent path sizes and really strange pallete (bright and dim?). Improvements would probably be to use a bigger map or resize that one and change the pallete and locations of buildings. It's probably best to start again.

Seems a little boring. This is just my own preference but I like to have more than just one house for any town, no matter how small, otherwise it doesn't seem like a town to me. Flower placement is good. The position of the mart looks awkward. I would suggest moving the mart right next to the trees on the left side, pushing the brown building up a bit and making the lake a little bit smaller (or making the map bigger).

It looks great, but in-game it will be quite frustrating with the movement-hindering log placement. The colour of the trees makes the grass look bluish. The Kyledove house looks out of place, I recommend replacing it with the original house in that tileset and pallete editing it for originality. I think it would be good it you made the mountain multi-levelled (1 more level should do it) too because right now that town looks like its in a crater or something. Also the amount of bikes is unnecessary and makes the town even more crowded, 2 should be enough.

The randomness of the grass is over the top, grass looks much better when you have a balance, I like to have a random border but have groups of grass. The steps look really bad you should have sticked with the normal ones. Good use of the ledge. The cave in the middle looks a bit weird. Make it so that there is no space between the two levels. The only other thing I don't like is the pallete, because it is overused and doesn't look that great anyway/

Oh, I knew someone's gonna ask this... It's a secret :P
The water goes underground and comes out in Miry Swamp and Lake Liberty, there's an underground tunnel leading them and the underground water tunnel splits

Yes the house on the peninsula is supposed to be inaccessible until you get surf because you get a certain Pokemon in that house! ^^ Also, it is SUPPOSED to be bright. So don't go "ITS TO BRIGHTERZ!1!!!!1!1! D:"

Also, the Professor takes you into the lab ^^ So that makes the map better in my opinion since everything works! :D

Reasons? Well, I think it's too empty, add a mart and few other houses. And it seems like it's squished together, I think it's a little to small to be a town. Maybe add some more houses among the trees and make it more loose!

Melesh- Well, there are a few tile errors and the building that is the school has too many windows. They both have a lot but since one is an apartment building one is fine. But a school shouldn't have that many windows. Just looks kind of strange.

All in all its a 7/10 in my opinion. ^^

In case you haven't noticed, it connects to another map. Which continues the river. Rivers have to start and end somewhere....

Yes but its kind of hard to fit an entire river and a sea on a map of that size. And not all rivers start with a waterfall. I can name one near where I live that doesn't. Infact, 2. The Ohio River and The Cuyohoga River. :P

It's good.
Not square and well built.
The funny tower is a bit weird...
There are minor tile errors in the houses
I don't think there should be moving water when there isn't anything making it move...

The grass is used well as an obstacle but it allows easy movement back (as always does on Route 1)
The grass blocks are too square though.

The map's great, but that's not all of it, is it?
And I think ladders shouldn't go down, make two go down and two up? or something tile that. And, It's veeery empty, you should fill the blank space with something (rocks, water,...)

Alright first off the town is a little too bare it lacks thing to make it memorable i believe that the gym shouldn't be so close to the entrance but that is a personal preferance and maybe you should have custom tiles aswell to add interest into the level, why the amount of trees? you have no fences, no signs again nothing to make it memorable not even 1 flower.

PS. Sorry if i sound harsh or rude i am just upfront with my opinions and thoughts and in the end it will help you create better maps.

^Nice, I kinda like it! I'll give it a 7/10. Reasons? Well, I didn't really like the bridge, and I think the towns a little too squished together. I think it would be better if the houses had more space apart, like the ones at the bottom. Just make another path or a little more free space.

i would recommend fixing up all of those horrible tile errors.
try and fill up the map with things, but don't make it overcrowded.
that path doesn't work, it starts at ground level, and unless you have sideways stairs, it doesn't work. see what i mean?
i would give a 6/10

anyways, as for me, i am posting a prototype of an underground city.
the main reason it's a prototype is because i haven't implemented any of your ideas yet guys......
i quite like the shape of it though.
tell me what ya think
EDIT: and i dunno what to do with the houses, that's why they look ****
Oh and there's only one warp at the moment...because i can't decide where to put the other one =/

i was thinking blue rooves...but that doesn't work with the cave tiles.

In one word squishy Also what is the point of the bridge it looks outta place and to be honest it make my eyes bleed lol i like the little flowers and the use of the little trees as a contrast though, the huge building idk seems kinda flat the way you set it up with the ridge Directly behind it make it seem unnatural you'd think a large building would appear over the ridge but altogether i quite like it.

Now this is a work of art you really have captured a desert feel with this map from small details of the terracotta roof for insulation, to the little red flowers which are actually seen in those regions.
The placement of the wildlife looks very natural and i would have the feel of actually walking through the desert with this one.
My only fault is that imo those little greenbushes look outta place they seem too idk vibrant maybe a more browny looking dead bush would be appropriate (that and i have never really liked them :P) Great work!

mmhm....4 out of 10 for u :( the grass looks bad and randomly placed amog the sand, the buildings ``outlining``dont match with the sand, bridge is verrry wierd looking,mountains stairs look horrid!! not to mention 2222222 many rocks......doesn`t seem like u spent much time on it,or that u have much experience in mapping,sorry...

EDIT: ive seen ur other work,and its amazing :O why does this one look so bad..?

It is very nicely mapped. Excellent placement of paths. The grass placement looks really natural too. I recommend getting rid of the flower under the cuttable tree and adding a layer on the mountain to go over the entrance. Also use some variation in the ground tile. From what I can see you've only used one when you can use like 5.

No offense but that map is just bad. Tile errors everywhere. Stones as a boundary? A cave? Weird looking bridge, wrong use of paths and bad palletes. I would recommend getting a lot more practice.

Bit of an odd looking town. Everything looks a bit crowded. The house looks a little squashed. I recommend that you make that long column of trees next to the house 1 tree smaller, then you can make the lake a bit bigger. Not much more to say, its certainly not bad. Maybe you could make the map itself a bit bigger?

Good use of ledges, but the mountain bit makes them useless because theres less grass that way. The placement of the grass is good, it looks very natural. I don't like how you've used that tile for the mountain ground, personally I never use that tile if you are able to walk on it, Nintendo doesn't either. Also for the stairs I would use at least two of them because it looks a lot better.

1st map - This is a very well done map, I can see nothing wrong with it. I like the way the river flows in the middle.

2nd map - A basic route, but done very nicely. The only thing I don't like is that it looks just like Route 1 from Fire Red, but I don't know if you did that on purpose or not.

Okay in the maps not too many problems actually here's a few:
The grass sprites are all same.
With the trees the all look a little square boxed in you a little unnatural imo.
This goes espicially with the grass it's all so square i mean is someone tending the grass I don't think so, make it more erractic to give it more of a natural feel.
The little trees by the house in town look really out of place.
Remember 75% of nature is natural and wild not contained and neat.

Reason: It's a very nice route map. Looks very elegant and simple, and it looks like a very good first route. The patches of grass are placed in a nice simple way. The only thing that bothers me is that you can go across the whole route without meeting a single pokemon. That's a negative thing for a route. Some places are empty. Else, the map looks really nice.
Suggestions: Just improve it as I've stated above.
