Note: This is a premade map - not a remake.
Rating: 9.5/10
Reason: I love the map. It's so simple yet so nice. I like the simplicity in the map. No more I can say.

Nice map. The only tile error I see are the windows on the houses other than that its fine. Perfect amount of room, however, I would put the big trees as the surrounding trees, but thats just me!

cool tiles, did you insert them yourself or is there a rombase?
if not you could think of making one
map rating: 9/10
beautiful placement of trees, awesome tiles and palettes, variety in the streets and house placement
the only thing i dont like is that all houses use the same tiles
edit: since most mappers read this thread it might be good to post it here as well:
my Frozen RomBase is finally Released
Check it out here: http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3896185&postcount=110#frozenIts not a base, I inserted them myself. :p I'm not sure how to make a rombase, but maybe :p lol. And thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure which other tiles would look nice. Theres not really any houses... theres gonna be a subway underground in one of the buildings so people can travel for work there everyday... lol... anyways, yea. Thanks ^^

Reason: It's a great map. I like the way you've placed the mountain tiles and trees, the paths and well everything. The little pond with the little waterfall looks nice. But I don't like the little cave entrance there. And a nice variation of trees. Nice work!
Suggestions: Remove the cave entrance there..

The mountain placement is nice, although i think you went crazy with making all the mountains follow the same path.
you have also killed it a bit when you put in too much rocks.
and i have not seen a single flower in the whole area.
Suggestions: cut down on the rocks, addmake flowers, and make the mountains a bit more natural, even though the mountain placement is good.

ill give ur map a 8.8/10, why? correct me if im wrong.. for me there's too many rocks,it will satisfy me if you remove atleast 5 or more rocks, also, the placement of grass near the entrance and exit bothers me, i think u should place one or more grass in the end so the ends wont look straight and i think u should leave some free blocks between all tthose grass tiles like u did in the 3rd batch of grass tiles

Ooooh, this map is great! I love the designs of the mountains, it works so perfectly. I see a tile error on the tree above the gym, I don't see anymore though :) I also don't like that rock under the mart that's in that hole thingy, I think it would look better without it. 10/10 It's amazing :)

Reason: I like the creativity but the trees go too narrow down. The little round ledge on the top right doesn't look right. And the grass at the top. But everything else looks pretty nice.
Suggestions: Try to add trees in a more scatttered way. And try to fill up the map a little more nicely.

Reason: I like the map. Perfectly nice shape and nice cattered buildings and the placement of the mountain tiles looks good. Try not using too much of the boulders. It pretty much ruins the map. Everything else looks good.

i recommend using bridges that go sideways not such long ones that go upwards
and you should use the space bewtween the two mountains, maybe add some grass there and an item
and th paths dont rellay fit in there
sry not to keep your rating form but im too lazy to think of a /10 rating :p

Oh wow, I was gone for two days and look what happened. Neti, your rombase is really nice but I'm afraid that it's going to be overused. There have been five maps with it already, three of them by Xray. I just don't want to see such beautiful tiles become dull due to overuse.
Okay, some ratings:
@Xray:
I see you REALLY like Neti's new rombase. All of your maps have WAY too many rocks. I like the complexity of your mountains but something just seems a little weird with them. In your first town map, the mountains aren't random enough (the top is the same shape as the bottom in some places). The bridge in the route is unnecessary. Your grass could be more natural (put a few regular snow tiles in the midst of the grass). Your second town/city seems empty but a few well placed trees or other decorative tiles could easily fix that though.
First town: 6/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3896820&postcount=1749)
Route: 6.5/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3898048&postcount=1760)
Second Town: 6/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3899764&postcount=1766)
@UltramasterBDX
Hm, I don't know what it is but something about your maps really seems to hit the spot. Even though I've seen those maps many times before, something you did makes them seem fresh and innovative. Oh and thanks for getting the small trees right. For some reason everyone else doesn't do them correctly. Your West New Bark Town is an obvious edit of your original New Bark Town but it still looks okay. As someone already mentioned, the windows are wrong and also the path is kind of strange. But the roof of the players house looks much better.
New Bark Town: 7/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3894656&postcount=1740)
Route 29: 7.5/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3896535&postcount=1748)
West New Bark Town: 6/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3897256&postcount=1752)
@makunouchi
Okay I might as well say this now before you develop a bad habit: my name is colcolstyles, not colco_styles. Sorry, it was starting to really bug me. Anyways, I can see how you drew inspiration from that town of mine (the shape and concept are very similar). But I like the town a lot, although the cave entrance does seem a little out of place. And for some reason the left side of the map seems square while the right seems curved. Maybe it's just me. Onto the forests: the snowy forest's borders (the big trees) look a little awkward. The inside is pretty good, some empty spaces, and you could probably make the player wind around some more (it's a pretty straightforward path from the entrance to the exit). And the dead ends (in both forests) will definitely annoy the hell out of the player. Grass placement could be improved, put some regular grass (or snow) tiles in the grass to thin it out. The first forest's grass placement is much better and overall, it's a better forest.
Town: 7/10
Grass Forest: 6/10
Snow Forest: 5/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3897449&postcount=1756)
@¿TB Pro™
I like the shape of your mountains but I would add another layer (but that's just my style). The rock stacks really kill the map (which would otherwise be pretty good). Overall, the map doesn't seem to have much going for it. There's a probably an important event here but as far as mapping goes, the general concept behind the map isn't exceptional. You could also probably get away with a few more scattered rocks.
Rating: 5/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3899150&postcount=1763)
@.:God:.
The tree placement is bad. It's not square, but triangular isn't much better. Try to make it more curved and throw in some more small trees in the midst of the huge thicket. The bridge is both unnecessary and weird. Keep it to two tiles in height when you're using a horizontal bridge. The ledge area is kinda weird and the path up there is just odd. You need to take the rocks in that ledged-off area and spread them around the map, filling the empty spaces. Also, too many signs (and they're different types of signs (a no-no)).
Rating: 3/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3899778&postcount=1767)
@Wind~
Once again, the bridge tiles are misused. Just use the other type of bridge (I haven't downloaded the rombase but they should be in there (otherwise, shame on you, Neti :))). The path usage is kinda weird. Grass placement, once again, should be more natural and random instead of blocky areas. The rocks are used nicely. But in general this map's core design isn't anything special. In my opinion, if you removed the trees on the bottom layer and added a mini area in there, it would look really nice. You could also spread some more small trees around so that the masses of big trees don't bore the viewer.
Rating: 4.5/10 (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3900768&postcount=1771)

Thanks for the ratings colcolstyles.
But i just thought that since its a forest, it should be confusing.
I hate viridian forest because its so plain and dull.
i do think the dead ends were overdone, but actually i was planning for there to be pokeballs at the end, so it would seem less annoying.
and yes, the right side does seem plain, i just rushed it and was lazy on it. And, yes your map was great, and Xray thought so too, so he told me to make the map like yours.
I actually planned for the city to be more narrow, but i didn't know if it needed a gym.
and i totally forgot about the empty grass in the areas, i rushed it like before.
I didn't think the cave would be such a bad idea, but seeing as how everyone hates, i guess it is.

RATINGS: 6/10
REASON: Although it is really a nice map, it will be a bit annoying to walk in a zigzag pattern on the center of that map. Why didn't Nintendo inserted a diagonal way of walking...? >.<

@Time
The berries are awesome for the trees and ground but with your grass spread it out more because it looks like it's been placed in blocks around the woods.

Um, that is a horrible map I'm sorry to say. The shape is awful, the small trees are all epic fails, just one bad map... 1/10

Reason: I like the map. The size is good, the way you placed the mountain tiles, buildings and the little ice ponds on the middle of the map. You could've added some greenery on the plain snow mountains. But the map is really good.
Suggestions: Add some more greenery to the map and don't use too many of those boulders.
man... >.<
everyone's using the winter themed ROM base around here.
I feel cilly seeing them. "-__-
Anyways...
Map 1...
RATINGS: 8/10
REASON: It's a very complex map showing your ability in making nice maps in complexity(word?)... I like it. :)
SUGGESTION: Nothing I guess... :\
Map 2...
RATINGS: 6/10
REASON: Although it is really a nice map, it will be a bit annoying to walk in a zigzag pattern on the center of that map. Why didn't Nintendo inserted a diagonal way of walking...? >.<
SUGGESTION: The map needs two mountain edges (http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa154/destinedjagold/elow.jpg). :\ Fix the mountain edge of one level of the mountain.
MY TURN! :D
Here's my map...
I really forgot how to map a forest so :\... Suggestions is what I need, and ratings. :D

Rating: 8.5/10
Reason: Wow, I like the way you've used the firered tiles on a ruby rom. It looks very suitable. You've left some plain areas though and the trees are placed in the middle in little square patches. But I like the shape of the map and the patches of grass.
Suggestions: Don't leave too many empty spaces.

Now that my browser is working properly, I can rate your map as promised. The tall grass looks too much like nintendo's, and maybe give the ledges a better shape. Other than that, not too bad: 6.5/10

Reason:Its too plain for my tastes.
the grass looks like something nintendo made.
it isn't as complicated as a forest should be, the weird spots just bother me, there are no empty spots or flowers in the grass, and thats about it.However, i do like that you put in firered trees, they just look awesome.
Suggestions: The "dots" look overused. Take out 2-3 of them.
Add more flowers, make it more forest like, and make better tree placement.

Reason: Its a good map, i just don't see why every mountain has to have mountain tiles above it. The green, thin(whatever they are) look weird, but the rock and mountain placement are good.
i don't like the lack of big trees though.
suggestions: Whatever i said was wrong with the map.

Map 1:7/10
Reason: The mountains just look...plain when they all follow the same path.
the skinny trees are all in a row, most of the trees are in a certain order, and i don't see the need to make the city road like THAT when you can just put a sign on the other side of the building.
Suggestions:I'm pretty sure you know them.
Map 2:8/10
Reason: Its much better, but the mountains still follow the same path.
The grass placement is good, but i think you put in too much empty spots.
and the ice maze isn't that hard to solve.
Suggestions: whatever i said was wrong, like before.

Yeah I noticed that it's not possible to put a border, but you can put a plain one. It's not see-able in gameplay so it doesn't any matter. You could add another layer of mountain and the bridge won't look so weird. Just my suggestion..

It seems like it has been awhile since I posted my last map, even though it really hasn't. I thought I'd make it up by posting my 3 newest maps for my upcoming hack: Pokemon Apocalypse.
My starting town:
Comments: Before you say "Starting towns are supposed to be basic" and all that stuff, I ask you, who came up with that rule? Who says it can't be a starting city? Who says the starting town can't be half a region? Just because nintendo made your main character live in a poor neighborhood doesn't mean we should let out characters live in a nice part of a city or something. :)
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg19/Mecharatchet/EdgecliffTown.png
The cave in my starting town.
Comments: I truly suck at mapping caves, and I thought I'd give it a go. I must say I'm not happy with how it turned out, but whatever. I need suggestions to help improve my cave mapping.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg19/Mecharatchet/EdgecliffDungeon.png
And now a mountainous route that I made. If you think this has a connection to the starting town, before you say "The connection will be messed up", it isn't connected to the starting town.:P
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg19/Mecharatchet/Dirtbeat.png
Can you guys please give me feedback (I'm accepting both positive and negative) to help me become the best mapper I can be?

Man, now that's a starting town :) Way to be a rebel and break the rule! I loveeee how the river flows on the mountain!
I do suggest though, that you don't make a house the way you did right next to the cave entrance, it looks squashed. Also, this isn't really about the map, but, if it's the starting town and there's a Poke Center, then it can lead to the glitch. Cause if you revive your pokemon but don't have any, your game crashes.
Map number 2
Rating 7/10
It's not that bad, but it just seems like it's missing something. Maybe some more levels of mountain to walk on. Also, wayyy too much rocks on the bottom map, but the top map is good, I don't think that one has any problems.
Map number 3

Now that's a route! It rocks. Only thing I can suggest is not to put so much rocks, too many rocks ruin maps all the time.

Let's be realistic, if you picture a mountain, or a really rocky area, wouldn't it have a bunch of rocks all over the place? Thanks for the comments though, I'm improving my cave now. Also, as soon as you exit your house, oak brings you to the cave and gives you your pokemon. So, no glitches :P

Just a couple of things to everyone out there, just because there is a space in the border, it doesn't mean you can get through it. Try it out. If you have trees in the border there won't be any problem.

This is to Maraudah, it didn't say that I was replying to him though.
Your first map
7.9/10
This is a pretty great map. The house without a door looks a bit out of place and the mountain area seems to big but that might just be me. Apart from that though, its great! The path is also great.
Maybe try making the door-less house look a bit more in place. And maybe make the mountain area smaller (its probably just me though so don't worry about it.)
Your second map
6.4/10
The first house doesn't look long enough, the second one looks too tall and the thir done looks a bit crammed. Also the path on the right looks a bit wide. The cave looks a tiny bit out of place. The path is pretty good.
Make the first house wider, add windows (if possible) to the second story of the second house and try to mak ethe thir done look less crammed. Also try and make the path to the right less wide and try to make the cave fit in more.
Your third map
I'm not good at rating these types of maps so sorry but I can't rate it.
Your fourth map
9.5/10
This is great! The craters arn't crammed, the rocks arn't too close to eachother. Ummm, I can't find anything bad. So I'll have to end this here.
Can't think of anything to improve.
Your fifth map
8.7/10
The buildings are in good positions except except the really thin one. The path is good. The trees are all scattered around well. The cave is a bit close to the water though.
Either move or get rid of the really thin one & move the cave away from the water.
You don't have to follow any of my advice. My advice isn't that good.

1st Map: 7/10 Well the vegetation is placed well, but im not sure where the water comes from, and it seems like there's no much flower. Try also adding a window in your doorless house.
2nd Map: I've rated this map..
3rd Map: 8/10 There's an empty space in the south-east part. I wont mind the quantity of the rocks you placed, maybe because, you're right about what you've said about itman1234.
4th Map: 6/10 Its better than before ^^ .. I think its better if you add more levels
5th Map: 7/10 Pls remove the squashed house near the cave entrance. There's also a tile error in the edges of the river

Sorry man, I give it a 2/10.
Why?: It's plain, the grass looks like a carpet how it's placed, tile error on the long grass on (i think it's meant to be on) the mountain, square, nothing blocks you from going through the border, tile error in the flower baskets, and since when is there a gym/ pokecenter in the first town?!
(the last one is a oppinion.)
Sugfestions: fill it up with trees and flowers and such, fix the tile errors, don't make it square, try multiple grass tiles and don't use just 1. Read a mapping tutorial, that can help you out.

here is my very first map its the hero's home town
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u318/geraldtpokemon/staringtown.png
I'm srry but i have 2 give it a 0.5/10
It's way to plain it doesn't even have a boarder in the map!
way 2 many rocks around the "mountain"
grass in a town is a no go (unless it has purpose)
Gym in starting town is kinda wierd but thts just me!
the grass on the "mountain" is wierd looking...
the path could be narrower
and thts it!

Hmm, a very nice map. (There must be a cave to the west of the map!)
I suggest using a variety of houses, instead of the starter house 3 times, and maybe getting rid of some of the small trees that are cluttering up the space around and behind the houses. Other than that, good job.

Hmm, this really is not a good map at all.
I'll give it a 2/10, reason: the waterfall doesn't work, look at Cape Brink (I think thats what it is, the one with the waterfall.) The only thing I like in this map is the placement of trees.
The cliffs are not good at all, the water doesnt seem real at all, and the paths are ginormous. It must have taken barely 5 minutes to make this map. Sorry if I sounded harsh, but I have to show honesty in my map rating.
Now here is my map: It's a forest, I haven't thought of the name for it yet. Also, do not mind the uglyness of the bridge please.
http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg19/Mecharatchet/FinishedForest.png
The exit is at the south east by the way, and there is a reason there is no entrance.

This is a pretty good map. It's a very tranquil, peaceful little town. My main concerns are that there is grass in the town (a big mapping no-no) and the mountains (I think there's a physical impossibility somewhere in there). However, I really like the palettes and the general feel of the map, especially the lake/bay/body of water. I'll give it a 6/10 but it could easily have been higher if you fixed some errors.

Here's map I've posted previously but nobody rated.
Comments: I've fixed a few tile errors. It is a starter town. There is a new grass tile. It's unusual and I think it'll probably be love-it or hate it, although I think it could be made better by palette-editing. I also know that a the path doesn't really fit in with it, so I will probably change that at some point too. Any suggestions about how to do the path, palette changes how to improve the grass tile etc. are greatly appreciated. So could you please rate maybe the tile and map separately? Thanks.

you could have just edited your post (for not double posting) or wrote down the url with spaces in it^^
ive checked the image now and got some suggestions/criticism for you:
all in all i think its a we ll done map (except for heave tile errors at the to pleft where the trees meet the mountain. maybe you did that on purpouse to make it look liek thee trees were standing behind the mountain, but i dont think that looks natural...
i dont see any other tile errors...
the shape is nice, you have multiple levels, bridges, no extremely striaght paths or mountains
the houses also vary, what is good
i think the mountain at the bottom right doesnt look very good, the one taht sticks out a bit, cause all levels have the same shape
another thing you could have done is adding more stuff to it, its a big map, but theres not so much stuff to do
maybe you could have spread all the houses around the map and made the paths between them longer
becuase in some parts it looks a bit empty to me, like in the bottom left corner which is unused, while the top right and right side contain most of the city
rating: 7/10

Here's another map from me:
http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/3122/hillcityew1.png
the mountain is screwed up, and it looks really plain.
the tileset goes badly with it since its mainly used for big cities, and your city is very cramped for its size.
Other than those, tile errors all around.
Rating:4/10
suggestions: make the mountains not follow a set path, change the tileset or change how much room there is, and just don't make it so cramped.
that AND, fix the till errors, they look hideous.
Heres one of my own, the first map I've done in over 2 months so it won't be the best.
Map Name: Fiore City
http://i33.tinypic.com/281zqdz.png
i like it, the trees are positioned good and it doesn't seem crowded or too roomy.
the tileset looks good on it and it really fits with the road.
however, i don't like it when there are two roads in a city instead of one main one.
not only that, but there aren't any small trees there, it seems a bit empty in some spots.
Rating:8/10
suggestions:Add small trees and please try to make it one path.

Please rate, and give suggestions.

http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=routetu7.png
it looks pretty good.
However, there are many problems with it.
the trees shouldn't have a "bottom" on them at the bottom of the map, it screws up the connection and just looks disturbing.
there are two open spaces down, which doesn't seem like you wanted them.
and also, the PC is pretty pointless, because after one route, there is usually a city or cave.
Unless you plan on putting a cave there, the PC doesn't look good.
rating:7/10
suggestions: fix the PC, don't add "those tiles" to the bottom of the trees when they are at the bottom of the map, and fix the parts that allow you to go places that you aren't supposed to go to.
Hiche

Thanks, ~Fire for the comment.
I fixed it up a bit.
As for the PC, I placed it because this route doesn't lead to a city nor a cave,
I leads from the right to another route, from the left, where you come from a cave
and down there is just an event. There are many trainers to face, so I think a PC would be needed.
But again thank you for the suggestions. If the PC is disturbing, I'll try to figure out a way not to use it.

the trees are in a normal military like order, the flowers and dirt path are disturbing with its symmetry, the flowers are all bunched up, and the mountain just looks to disturbing with its symmetry, like before.
However, the shape of the lake is pretty nice, i like it.

Reason: Looks like a great route map. I like the placement of the PC and the cave right next to it. The problem is that you can actually get off from the border. I like the little bridge across and the icy lakes. It looks very neat.
Suggestions: Nothing really XD.
Thank you so much for the positive rating, cell.
what do you mean get off the border? you mean when I walk down?
Thanks again
You see the frozen lake furthest to the right of the map? Well if you walk out on that, you can go off the boarder :) Oh, and there's a spot to the left bottom of the map that you can squeeze between the tops of two trees, off the boarder.

Oh no, There is a connection down. I mean you can walk to another route when you go down.
Hope that clears it uphttp://www.pokecommunity.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Not a bad map, infact, I like it. The only error I can see is that you get off the border by some ice

Apparently it is my best map. I want to know what you guys think.
There is a reason for different signs, there is a reason for an empty beach, and there is a reason for each secret exit included on my map.
EDIT: FORGOT TO MENTION: THIS IS AN ACADEMY!!!!!!!! AND YOU ENTER BY BOAT.

Blame ME? I didn't MAKE you do anything. I just suggested it. Anyways, I'll repost my rating that I gave you earlier for others to view:
Okay sorry for the huge delay but school has been pretty bad lately. Alright. Let's get down to business:
First of all, I think you need to understand the system I use for rating maps. You see, my rating is based upon two deciding factors: concept and execution. We'll start with concept. Basically, every map (in my opinion (which is in no way correct)) contains a concept or general layout. This includes the general shape of the map, the idea of the map (route, city, etc.) and other smaller factors that make up the basis of the map. The concept makes up the majority of the points I give for ratings. Execution is the actually way in which the mapper goes about making the map. This includes, but is not limited to, which blocks the mapper used, tile errors, and placement. I do not find execution as important as concept because if you have a really good idea for a map, it takes a very bad mapper to completely screw it up. So now that you understand how I look at maps, please read on for your rating.
As I told you, I made a rather large list of positives and negative points about your map. I will now put them into an essay form. Let's begin with the negatives (my favorite :) ):
First of all, I don't usually like (or even rate) maps that use a ROM Base. For you I will make an exception, but in the future, I will only accept maps with normal Fire Red tiles or ones that the mapper himself made. Moving on: tile errors. The biggest tile error, and the most repeating, are the waterfalls. If you played this map in a game, you would see that the waterfall just doesn't seem right. Take a look at the Cape Brink map. For waterfalls shorter than three blocks, I'm not quite sure what's the correct way but I'm sure if you try some things out and them look at them in game, you'll figure it out. Also, there's a tile error in a tree in the northeastern part of the map. Some other smaller tile errors include:
1) At the top of a waterfall, you need a special river edge tile (see Cape Brink)
2) On the southern edge of a river, I see you have used the bottom edge tiles (unlike many who are unaware that they even exist). However, there are special tiles you can use when the bottom edge meets a vertical edge. This probably isn't making much sense but if you look at the block palette, you'll see that on either side of that blocks there are similar blocks that curve at the edges. If you try them out, I think you'll see what I mean. If you take a look at this (http://homepage.mac.com/loristyles/.Pictures/newmapstuffsplzkthanxbai/route5_6-NO-EVENT.jpg) map, you will see what I mean (hopefully).
3) I see that you made a custom block with a vertical mountain behind the roof of the mansion. However, if you look closely (my job), you will see that there is a small black dot to the left of the mountain in the background and above the mansion in the foreground. In-game, this will show up as some weird blue stuff. In order to get rid of that problem you actually need to edit the tileset and add a special tile. Take the top left tile of a vertical mountain block and take the second color (green) in Palette 1 and fill in the black area. Again, I probably am not conveying this very well but the green will match up with the grass, effectively getting rid of the black dot.
4) You use different signs. Maybe there is a reason for that but that is generally a no-no in mapping.
5) At the top of the map, you have two two block waterfalls. However, they use different parts of the waterfall. Try to make them more consistent.
6) The fences around the signs are kind of weird but at the same time, they look kinda cool. That's probably a more personal issue so I'll let you get away with that.
7) All of the houses are mansions except that one small house and the lab.
Here are some other general errors I noticed:
1) You often don't leave enough space in front of houses (especially the lower house in the west). You also do the same thing with stairs: as soon as you descend the stairs, you are behind a tree. I guess you just need to put more spaces in front of houses and stairs so they aren't so crowded by trees or mountain blocks.
2) The Gym is usually an important place in the map and you have it partially obscured by trees.
3) The stairs south of the mansion second from the bottom in the southeast look very weird (they're right next to the other mansion). If you added one more block in-between, your problem would be fixed.
4) In my opinion, double stairs (where you have more than one level of stairs) are kind of weird. I know what you're thinking: "but colcolstyles, you used THREE consecutive stairs in your Route 5 (http://homepage.mac.com/loristyles/.Pictures/newmapstuffsplzkthanxbai/route5_6-NO-EVENT.jpg)." I know that. And looking back on that map, I HATE the fact that I did that. I really want to repost it but I've decided it isn't really worth it.
5) For some reason, I don't really like the bridge/ dock blocks. Again, this is more of a personal thing so I won't mark you down for it.
6) That long strip of small trees is kinda weird.
7) The beach is too empty. Try placing some rocks here and there.
8) In general, there are empty spots around the entire map. If you just put in a few more flowers or rocks (I didn't see any in the entire map) or even small and headbutt trees, you could easily fill those voids. Speaking of vegetation, you could probably get away with more flowers, bushes, and rocks without overdoing it.
9) There is a hidden path on the eastern side of the map which I originally liked. You could have used it for a pokéball. However, then I noticed that it's closed off. I would recommend either opening it up for the player or filling it up so that the player doesn't try to get in when it's impossible.
EDIT: I just noticed that the hidden area is accessible from the route to the east. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not but that actually looks pretty cool.
10) The trees in the northern part of the map arranged in a grid look weird. If there is an in-game reason for that, it's more acceptable but on a strict mapping basis, it doesn't look good.
Back to paragraph format:
One thing that I noticed is the map is very maze-like. This is good in routes (and even better in caves and forests) but from my experience, cities are usually very easy to navigate. On a similar note, sometimes the path through the city (not the path tiles but just the general path through) get very thin. Once again, this is great in wild areas but in cities and towns (and in real life livable places) the paths are wide and, as I mentioned above, easy to follow. That's probably just a personal preference of mine. Another thing I don't usually like in cities are ledges. These I don't mind as much but I when you use them so that they make a one-way path, it makes the city less navigable, like I said before. If you just use them decorative, they can actually help the map. But in your case, they just make it harder to get through the city.
Okay, I think that's enough negatives (for now). Let's move on to the positives:
First of all, the underlying concept is great. As I said, every map has a basic form or blueprint that makes up a huge part of it's rating (for me). This map's shape is just great and the general idea is really something. I especially liked the shape of the mountains. You didn't make them square or anything like that. And that goes for the entire map; it's not square (except for those grid trees) and the whole map just flows well. Some maps are painful to look at but yours is a beauty. Another thing I liked was the mixture of big, small, and headbutt trees throughout the map. That's one thing that I struggle with myself. You found the perfect balance in usage between the three. Also, I liked that way you placed the trees. You could have improved tree placement a little (like filling in those empty spaces) but overall it looks really good. I really liked your idea of that island in the middle. Now I'm mad I didn't think of it first :).
Looking back, I see that the positives section is dwarfed by the negatives section. However, don't take that the wrong way. I'm just generally a negative person and I take pleasure in pointing at other people's flaws. However, for me to compliment you on the concept of your map is really something that I don't just toss around. As I said, that is what makes up a huge part of your rating so I don't take that section lightly. In fact, your concept is so good that it makes up for a large portion of your errors.
I suppose you need an actually 1-10 rating. After much though and consideration, I give it a very solid 9/10, making it the top rated map I have ever rated. I know that after reading that, an 9 doesn't seem like a great rating. If you look at the Map Rating thread, you'll see tons of ratings better than that. However, you have to look at the rater, not the rating. I remember receiving a 10/10 on my first map from people like Wind~ and Riolu 9 but it wasn't until Neti gave my map a 10/10 that I truly knew that my map deserved that rating. I'm positive that if you posted that map, many people would give it a perfect score but what really matters is the rater and their standards.
In closing, I just want to say that you truly possess a great mapping skill. You just need to develop a greater understanding of the entire block palette and map types (the differences between cities and routes (like how I mentioned that some of your paths were too thin)). Let me know if there's anything in this post, scratch that, essay that you didn't understand. Keep up the excellent work. :)

If it's an Academy then no exits, or small exits are a good thing, make some water rocks and maybe replace a mansion with a hotel

Comments: I know this isn't part of the grading scale, but maybe try to change up the palettes. The mountain palettes are freaky, the darkest color of brown dosen't go with the othr colors of brown. The trees are that way too. I liek the colors, just try to make them flow better.
Yeaa I kinda have to get into mapping again didn't do it for a long time..
And thanks for your comment ill try and change it ;)
the trees are in a normal military like order, the flowers and dirt path are disturbing with its symmetry, the flowers are all bunched up, and the mountain just looks to disturbing with its symmetry, like before.
However, the shape of the lake is pretty nice, i like it.
rating:6/10
suggestions: Make it much less symmetrical, whether or not its supposed to be natural.
and i know this doesn't matter, but i think you should change the palettes into something more subtle.
Thanks I will take a look at it and you gotta keep in the back of yout mind this is my 2nd map since a long time:P

Tip one:
Grid Off
The grid makes it harder to evaluate. And it is annoying (heh, same thing basically)
Tiles are a nice touch, but the map is a bit square, and the water... moving water at that, in the middle of this town. I suggest using non-moving water, and making it a bit less square. both the water and town, less square... plus the empty space behind the house in the upper left corner... eww...
I'll give it a 5 screaming donkeys... out of 10

Reason: Hmm..yes, it would be better to remove the grid as said by omega arsenal. The map is pretty squarish and it is pretty empty, don't you think? I don't like the shape of the little lake there.
Suggestions: Try to add some more greenery and don't make the map a square. It pretty much ruins the map. Try to fill up the empty spaces and fix up the shape of that little lake.
