Do your parents smoke or drink?

Mine don't fortunately and they never have had a smoking or drinking habit in their past lives. I don't think I could put up with it if they started to smoke >.< The smoke is horrible IMO.

My parents are really heavy drinkers. *looks over* my dad is drinking a Natural Light right now actually. Theres about a whole god dang BOX of beer cans out on the street every week.

Neither of them smoke. In fact, no one in my family smoke. Those that do had died of the effects of smoking. My dad drinks some alcohol every now and then though.

Neither of my parents smoke, so that's a good thing.

As for drinking, my mother has suffered liver damage, so the consumption of alcohol could prove fatal. And my father only tends to drink socially, like at parties or when we have visitors over, but not till the point where he is drunk.

yeah, my parents smoke...and they always say the will quit but they never do. They do it outside and not in the house...so that's a good thing.

My mother is the only one that smokes. She couldn't care less about the idea of getting something that is possibly life threatening (heart attack, cancer, stroke, amputation, etc). No matter how much I inform her about it, she can't quit, simply too addicted. Neither of my parents drink.

My parents are casual drinkers at best. I've seen them drink before, but never in excess, and not that often. Usually it's only when company's over, anyways...otherwise the drinks in the fridge sit there for the longest time.

As for smoking...neither of them smoke, thank goodness. There are already enough problems in that house with people having allergies without adding things like cigarette smoke to it.

My father smoked, but my mom and stepdad don't, which is good. I don't like smoking. My stepbrothers did though, but they had to smoke outside.

My parents rarely drink, and if they do, it's just one drink. They're not alcoholics or anything. They just enjoy the casual drink, that's all. XD

My dad used to smoke, but he quit before I was born. Sometimes he'll have the occasional cigar, but he smokes it outside. :x As for drinking, my parents often just have wine with dinner and my dad'll have a beer while watching sports, but it's casual and they're never irresponsible with it.

Both of my parents smoke. They usually smoke in the downstairs bathroom, which I completely avoid because everything in there smells of smoke. And then the smoke drifts out from under the door and I can smell smoke every where. I hate it. I can't stand all the smoke. My dad keeps trying to quit, and I think eventually he'll be able to do it, but my mom is absolutely hopeless. She smokes wayyyyy too much. Whenever I bring up all the risks to her she gets really mad at me, so I'm not allowed to bring it up. D:

My dad drinks, but only occasionally. Like at parties and stuff. And that isn't often. My mom, however, hates drinking.

Ther are many adverts on tv and on posters warning everyone about smoking - how it can kill you and how it is passed on.
Oneday, these messages will get to some people

Oh, hello! I don't go into this forum often, but this topic is quite interesting... All I can say, is: My parents and people in my "close family" don't smoke (YAY) and they drink only occasionaly. Like parties and some "family actions" :D, so it isn't bad. I like my parents :D

I only live with my mom, but thankfully she never smokes or drinks. Neither do most of my other family members (with the exception of a couple of cousins, but even they only do it outside, away from everyone else) so I feel very fortunate when it comes to that.

I have some friends who I feel so sorry for because their parents either smoke or drink all the time... and I know how annoying that can get. ._.; I always feel horrible when I have to smell that stuff for long periods of time. It's a shame to see people who don't have the desire to take better care of theirselves.

My mum is the only one that smokes in the house, she doesn't ever want to listen to me that not only can it be dangerous for herself, but it could be dangerous for everyone else. She did try to quit once, but that only lasted for a couple of weeks before she started smoking again. It's a good thing she doesn't drink, my dad doesn't smoke nor does he drink, he only drinks on Occasions.

My parents I live with don't smoke, they drink, but not very often, so they are far from alcoholics, and I don't do either myself, I don't drink or smoke.. maybe the odd beer, but that's about it. It doesn't happen often.

Mine don't do either, thank god. I'd hate for them to knowingly contribute to poor health, though they're both extremely healthy atm.
Me, I'll smoke occasionally, though, to respect my parents, only at my local bar/concert hall, where you'd be smoking anyway from all the secondhand, so whether or not I'm the one holding the cigarette doesn't seem to matter.

I sometimes think I'm kind of fortunate that Mom smokes. Certainly not while I was unborn—I'm sure that accounts for a lot of what's wrong with me. XD;—but because of it, I grew up strongly resenting smoking, drinking, drugs, and pretty much anything that causes a permanent change in the body. Maybe I'm just scared of not being able to go back, but I've always hated all of that with a passion. o_o; I once threw out an entire carton of her cigarettes when I was little. That...did not make her happy. The sad thing is, I don't think she'd really stop me if I did smoke. She just can't say no to me. Most of the time, that's a good thing. xD; But it'd be awful if I wasn't so self-policing.

I feel the same way as Karli. I abhor the smoke smell, and wish I could convince her to quit. But bringing it up makes her very upset, so I've just learned to let it be. It's sad; I want her to live for a long time, because I'm going to lose her earlier than most lose their mothers since she had me so late in life. Smoking will only hasten that. :\

The poll should've had an option for either parent
As for me, my dad drinks every few days and I think he secretly smokes. My mom stopped smoking recently (she's much more fun now) but doesn't drink really. Last time she drinked was on Christmas eve and the next morning she had a hangover aka she ruined Christmas day.

I don't think my dad drinks, haven't talked to him a while, so meh. My mom doesn't drink, but she smokes, a lot. I hate it. Aside from not liking the smell, I can't take being around the smoke at all, I've got pretty weak lungs, so I'm a lot more susceptible to breathing problems than most people. Even with all that, my mom still smokes around me, so I've more or less given up on trying to get her to quit and I just try to avoid her when she's smoking.

My mom smokes and drinks fairly regularly. My dad is a big drinker, so much so that's seriously hurting his health.

Can't really do anything to stop them because, I've never listened to them, why should they listen to me?

Yes. Both of my parents are serious drinkers; they've been drinking before I was born. My mom smoked, then quit, then started smoking again. And of course, drinking led to domestic violence, so I don't really know what its like living with both parents, since I live with my mom. They have been apart since I was three and were never married.

Thankfully, my mom was careful and never smoked a single cigarette or drank a single alcoholic beverage while pregnant. There's six of us and we all turned out healthy.

It's all really up to my mom if she wishes to smoke or not. She usually just whips out her cancer stick whenever her emotions get in the way.

My daddy used to smoke a few years ago but he's quit... or at least, I'm pretty sure he has, since I haven't seen him smoke in a looong time. My mommy's never smoked but they do drink from time to time, mostly wine than beer, though.

(I kinda think cigarette smoke smells good. But... that's just me, and I still don't plan on smoking.)

Mmm, my father smoked about ten years before I was born, but quit right before my brother was born, because after he was born, he wasn't allowed to smoke inside, lest he get yelled at like crazy by my Grandmother, who hates smoking, so he had to smoke outside in the snow. xDD;; So he quit, because it was too cold.

But currently, neither of my parents smoke, or drink.

[The smell of smoke and alcohol make me feel nauseous. D: Kind of like I'm getting motion-sick, but not...]

My pop said he'd quit smoking, but he still hadn't.
My nan, on the otherhand needs smoking to stop her from going crazy. Seriously, if she didn't smoke I'd be dead.
And they occasionally drink woobluh. (Uh..I can't spell)
I don't live with my parents, but they do both, so yeah.

My Dad used to smoke, but somehow he managed to quit, but he still drinks quite a bit, though. I don't worry about it because it's not really heavy, where was my Mother has never drunk or smoked.. Well, she did once when she was 19, but after that, she just ended up being really dizzy and felt sick, so she hasn't had one since. I think my Dad stopped smoking because I was born, well there's enough motivation in that, I guess.

Though my Grandmother is a heavy smoker, her house just smells like smoke, everytime I go round there, it isn't a trouble for me, but my sister doesn't really the smoke, but she's an attention seeker, so I don't know what I should expect, really. My Grandad smoked much like Grandmother until he broke his leg, which then he kinda had to quit, so that got him to quit.

I mean, it'd be nice to see my Grandmother quit smoking, but I don't think she ever will, people have convinced her now for a long time, like I have too, when I've had to do school projects in the past, she mainly just laughs or something, I don't know if she's hidign what she feels or she just takes it as a joke, I just get pretty confused, meh.

mine do....let's see:

Real dad-fortunatly,no...he does nothing of the sort

Step dad-yea.he drinks every bad alchohol(you know what I mean)ciggerets or whatever, and weed...

mom-she just drinks and does weed.

it's why I dislike my mom.I don't care if she does it,but the fact that she tries to hide it,thinking I dunno these things tick me off....which is also why when she dies,I spit on her grave and laugh if the death is drug-related...

heartless,I know.

Neither of my parents smoke. Though my Dad USED to smoke during his early days, and gave up 26 years ago due to some miracle he preached to me. In which I'm glad, if he didn't I wouldn't still have him around...considering he is rather older now. But he does drink, at least not that often.

Both my parents are pretty heavy drinkers, but my Father more so than my mother. I feel horribly bad for him, but I just find it hilarious when he gets really drunk, and runs around the house hugging everyone.

Neither parents smoke.

My dad smokes but I'd say he made a pretty good effort keeping it away from us, seeing as I only discovered his habit a few years ago. I don't know if I can even call it a habit since he only does it when he's drunk. Not to mention I've only ever seen him smoking twice in my life. Both of my parents drink, and every uncle from my mother's side drinks too. About 9 of them. Fun to watch sometimes. One got so drunk once that he was chasing his imaginary tail around in circles. Even the dogs looked at him weird. =P

I picked neither, but of course my parents drink occasionally. I felt that the drinking question referred more to a negative habit sort of situation.

I could not deal with parents that smoke. I'd harass them so much they'd be forced to change.

...doesn't work. Trust me. I've been going on at my mum for the last seven years about giving up... ALL the time. She's still smoking. The latest excuse is she'll get fat if she stops altogether. She has, thankfully, given up a little and doesn't smoke as often and as much as she used to. I doubt I'll ever get her to stop completely, even though she knows it upsets me so much.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you all gathered from that that my mum does, indeed, smoke. Only drinks occasionally.

Dad? No idea, really.

That way they would be forced to quit for my own health.

Tried it. Just leads to a massive argument where my mum'll say "I'm trying my best to give up!" And I've also threated. This goes to the "I've smoked so I have no right to stop you, I just really don't think you should do it. You don't want to end up like me"

My mom smokes cigarettes. It bugs me, because it makes her smell like cigarettes, which in effect makes things in our house smell like cigarettes. I make her smoke outside, because I don't want my clothing to smell like that, but it just get really annoying. Plus, out of smoking in general, cigarettes are my least favorite. I think they taste bad, and are pretty gross in general.

Reason The Don't Smoke: I have something that makes me breathe hard
Reason they dont drink: I think they believe drinking is wrong or against the law where i live i think..
