We will be providing it when PokeSpam has perfected it (aka, made a program). for people who have contributed to diamond an pearl hack, I will gladly give the offset privately. Also, it might be the same, but nintendo wasn't lazy. there are serveral ways in which you need to hack the map before it's a tottaly new map. the one i've done, it just hacking which textures are where. There is also what we called movement premissions, but in diamond and pearl i now believe to be the elevation of objects/ground. In my all black route, I could still go down into the half visible pit, run into trees, and that stuff. also another old one is the objects, people, buildings, and things like that. if you have msn or aim i will tell you the offset on there, but for now i'd like to keep this private to PokeSpam members.

if there is serious interest i can tell you what files (=equalent to offset in rom) the textures and stuff are. But not how it works exactly (because i don't know XD)

however i am to lazy to assemble a list noone is interested in (like so many other projects of mine)

also note that the evolution movedata etc was already figured out by people like lexyeevee, zhenlin et al. days after the release so it's not really new. i'll give you the credit of rediscovering it tho.

Just so everybody knows, I've figured out how to edit the Elite 4's Pokemon's moves. Thanks to thethethethe, with that move list he made. I've been able to find out where the moves are. They were right where I suspected, right next to the Pokemon number and level. Figures. For those of you who didn't see, it was because I didn't know how to search for the moves correctly. Time to make a level 1 Mewtwo that only knows Splash!

I figured that. I would have doubted that discoveries of those things were to happen more than 6 months after the release.
It would have been weird considering they were set out in the same way as 3rd gen. games.

Who? Did they edit the actual title screen or just the credits and gamefreak symbols? I'm just wondering.

And I posted the layout for trainerbattles on the page before this one.
You can find any of them pretty easily. Just search for something like this, as an example.
Trainer has, a Level 7 Starly, and a level 9 Turtwig.
Search for 0700 8C01 and if more than one option comes up, you look near where each result occurs for 0900 8301 and then check if it suits the layout. You just have to search.

do you want me to make my elite 4 editor into an overall trainer editor? I can figure it out, although it may take a while... if you want to help me compile a list of what trainers are who and where they are, I could probably edit my program to handle it, or I could possibly make a whole new program. I have no idea how long it will take. after we make the list, probably like 4 weeks.

Michael Allison

I finished making a simple HEX generator. It takes the name of a Pokemon, recognizes it's National Dex Number, and reports back with the hexadecimal value of that Pokemon in Diamond and Pearl using a script created by Darthatron, the formula discovered by gamefreakfatty, etc..

Not only is it still in beta, but it is also, for the moment, exclusive to PokeSpam members and a select few to assist them in creating OTHER hacking tools.

Actually, there's a --while not exactly complex, time-taking when finding mass amounts of hexadecimal values-- formula for finding the hexadecimal value of a Pokemon in Diamond and Pearl involving the reversal of some bytes, etc.. Something that takes, maybe, 30 seconds to do in your head.

Anyway, how did you manage that?

Edit: Also, having the script at the ready, all you have to do is add a different list and mess with the numbering to make it generate items, etc..

I made the post a bit more polite. I really don't feel like being insulted, especially when the insult isn't even backed by a valid argument. Next time I'd appreciate, at the very least, posing a question before making a claim...

Reasons for such a script, simple as it is to create...

Do you have all 493 Pokemon memorized? I don't.
You're telling me typing in the numbers on a calculator, then checking the radio button is faster than simply selecting and clicking?
Automatically converts the HEX for ROMs...

I'm not sure about a translated version (although I've only heard of it, I believe PokeTEX is Japanese), but I'm sure a quick Google search would reveal a lot. Either way, I'll look for it, and get back to you on that.

Edit: Ahem... The link from before was a 404 error, but a quick search on their integrated Google search engine provided me with this (http://www18.atwiki.jp/pokeanalyze?cmd=upload&act=open&pageid=8&file=PokeTEX_20061025.zip). I think I may have found out where some more battle data is stored... Here is my theory...

SS TT ?? ## IIII IIII IIII IIII ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ??

Key:

SS = Song
TT = Trainer Type
?? = Unknown
## = Number of Pokemon
IIII = Item HEX Humber (Flipped)

_____________________

Example: (Possibley the first E4 Member.)

03 41 00 05 1700 1700 0000 0000 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Key:

03 = Song "Elite Four Battle"
41 = Type "Elite Four"
00 = Unknown
05 = Number of pokemon
1700 = Item HEX Num. (Full Restore)
1700 = Item HEX Num. (Full Restore)
0000 = Item HEX Num. (Nothing)
0000 = Item HEX Num. (Nothing)
01 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown

Sadly, I cannot test this (As I don't have a D/P save file past the first town :(), but it all seems logical to me. If someone can test it and get back to me I'll make a program for editing Trainers. :)

Offset for this Trainer: 29532456
First possible Trainer?: 29527256

Also, I'm pretty sure that if you change the "05" Byte to a "06" Byte the 6th pokemon will be a level 55 Quagsire.

I think I may have found out where some more battle data is stored... Here is my theory...

SS TT ?? ## IIII IIII IIII IIII ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ??

Key:

SS = Song
TT = Trainer Type
?? = Unknown
## = Number of Pokemon
IIII = Item HEX Humber (Flipped)

Example: (Possibley the first E4 Member.)

03 41 00 05 1700 1700 0000 0000 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Key:

03 = Song "Elite Four Battle"
41 = Type "Elite Four"
00 = Unknown
05 = Number of pokemon
1700 = Item HEX Num. (Full Restore)
1700 = Item HEX Num. (Full Restore)
0000 = Item HEX Num. (Nothing)
0000 = Item HEX Num. (Nothing)
01 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = Unknown
00 = UnknownSadly, I cannot test this (As I don't have a D/P save file past the first town :(), but it all seems logical to me.

I have no life. Send me the patch over MSN when I get back on tonight. Elite Four here we come, LMAO.

Well, Nintendo most likely would have worked with Binary. But like Hex>Dec, we can easily convert it Bin>Hex, and it's hex editing again.
It's not that we can't find anything, it's that it's a 'little' harder to "decode" than previous games, because of 3D structure of maps.

ok, i get it now. One question, if the buildings and objects are 3D, how are you going to do it? Because the map and the object placements are comepletely different, you can tell because if you WtW the gatehouse that's to the left of Jubilife, the buildings and textures are gone but the "heightmap" isnt (the people are still there too)

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but as someone who's spent too much time time in front of the computer trying to hack the maps, i can pretty much tell you how their made. First off, it's all 3D, i know, it sucks. It is, for some odd reason, fully 3D (from what i've seen). I don't know about the indoors, but i think it's just somewhat un3D, 3D. We'll edit them the same way the edit maps and objects in pc games, with 3D modling programs, and extreme difficulty.

You dont understand, there's two different things to edit for one map. Theres the terrain file and the object placement file. Try using WtW over the gatehouse, the houses arent modeled to the ground because in place of them is different objects when you do this. It's hard to explain without a video or something, you also have the people/event placement, barriers (as in if its water/wall/walkable) and weather effects!! Also, its all just one big map, if you WtW and run upwards from Jubilife you will eventually appear near snowpoint.

Very True Heatran,
Guys, I bet you can remember Mario 64 right, people said that game was impossible to hack...and then "Toads Tools" a 3d level and graphics editor came out.
And I'm sure you guy's know of Dragonball z Budokai or Grand theft auto, for the PS2 and PSP, well those graphics can be hacked also, and look how complex the system and the games are.

This is just a small mountain that guys like us WILL overcome.
It May require a lot of Co-operation and Dedicated researchers for the Program.
Things like this take long.

I've been in a lots of different forms of hacking and I've learned that the longer you spend on creating something, the more amazing it will be.

I believe all of us together will be able to create a whole range of DP Hacking programs.

I know that the objects are seperate from the terrain and placement, i don't believe that this game uses movement premissions, it's just elevated parts of the ground/objects. What is WtW?

Anyway, DP is considered one of the hardest things to hack now, but I wonder... is it stable like Ruby or Firered, or like Emerald. 1 little mistake and the game dies.
And on the binary theory, isn't it kinda harder to get the correct 8 numbers like 00101102*?
I say HEX is easier, especially if you have Romtext. It translated HEX to English. I even have this thing memorized: 00 - spacebar.
Anyway, that's my theory, even if t don't make sense.

I guess think about it this way.
Let's say you had to memorize a value that stands for a symbol.
FE = \n
or
11111110 = \n
The binary line would be harder.

And also, lets say you screwed up one number in that binary line, you could have something totally different. There's just more room for error working with binary.

sebbe17 is exactly right, you could take the tilesets from fr and resize them, create new ones for the now objects and sides of buildings, and that stuff. i do know how to change textures and what has what textures, but bring fr into diamon and pearl would not look good.

@Darksun45230: Where do tools usualy go (that's the toolbox if you were wondering).

@sebbe17: sorry for getting off of msn, my laptop froze :S.

Ah you have to forgive me for my ignorance. You see I'm new here but I'm ready to support in whatever way I can. You see I love Pokemon, but I can't stand the dialog. As a writer it trashes my psyche to no end. The meet rival, get Pokedex, collect badges, defeat Team, and finally challenge the Elite Four formula is being handled poorly (putting it lightly.)

eh, no problem. do you mean the way they haven't changed the story in all of the games? or just the text?

Kinda both. >.>
I wanna become a writer. Playing with bad scripts is fun ^_^

Kinda both.
I wanna become a writer. Playing with scripts to "Improve" the original writing a bit sounds interesting.

No, they won't!

Although we don't have a public site, we do have a topic that's linked to in Heatran's signature! That's where our releases are :).

Decoding suck... But i hope you understand what im trying to tell... There is 3 rivals battle and after which starter you choosed, they play one line of them... Like if i instead of chosing pipplup had choosed tuwtwig then the 0x1C2F880 would be 0x1C2F898...
Can i just ask very fast does you fight more then four time with the rival?Edit: The battle where you fight wtihe him, is located at to offset, Just go some lines down and you will find the rest...

^ Not entirely. Give it a few months before we even see plans for a full on D/P Hack. As for now I'm content with tools and such. However I'd like to know how to use the Pallette tool, oh well.

Yeah, don't expect any full blown hacks for a while. At the very least, you would need a map and scripting tool, neither of which we have.

a few months atleast :/ to the best of my knowlage, we have very little on mapping, and nothing on scripting.

I noticed quite a few patterns in my hex editor (which is very basic btw)
These patterns continue on through the game, i'm pretty sure the second attachment has something to do with mapping or scripting, considering the pattern is very large. I haven't investigated into these, but I will soon.

Here they are:

i highly doubt that it's mapping. mapping in d/p is very different from any of the other games. It's 3d, not like anything else.

Well yah, your Right Gabe_K
but also there is some minor things in
Dp mapping that isn't 3d
(like the normal non Pokemon grass,
Paths, floors etc.)

So Cheesepeow may be right.

that would be nice :/ but from working with the textures, i can say almost definently, even the ground is 3d, just textured, but it's a 3d object. nintendo seems to just want to prove "we can do 3d on pokiemanz now"

i highly doubt that it's mapping. mapping in d/p is very different from any of the other games. It's 3d, not like anything else.

But each block has a specific byte am I right?
You cant have a couple of bytes over each other to form a 3d object?
3d mapping would be very hard, you need four different pictures, and a script that would make them revolve around each other.

Two for the sides, one for face on, and one for birds eye. Because that way it changes automatically. I'm still a bit confused, i'll search for more of this sometime later.

well what i believe it is, judging by my texture hacks, is that the ground is made up of alot of different 3d objects. i wonder why nintendo would do this, but i am very sure it is.

I don't believe that is how 3D texturing works. I remember skinning in the first "The Sims" games... It was all just one single image that wrapped around a 3D frame. If all 3D works the same way, then the 3D for D/P would have to be a 3D frame with a picture aka texture wrapped around the 3D frame.
In case you don't understand what I mean by all this:

that would be nice :/ but from working with the textures, i can say almost definently, even the ground is 3d, just textured, but it's a 3d object. nintendo seems to just want to prove "we can do 3d on pokiemanz now"

There's 2d images that aren't sprites, but are similar artwork... starting pages, etc... Maybe? I don't rly know what I'm talking about in this area LOL.

Actually, I compared the variables I found with the ones in gold, and obviously I know what they all mean in Gold, so I just matched them up. However, the final list seems pretty solid, a few might be questionable, but it seems we pretty much figured it all out. Good job everyone.

I did the same thing. Up to byte 1C, for every pokemon I checked, they had the same 'byte order' between GBA and NDS. Since I knew all the meanings of the GBA bytes, and they were the same for each Pokemon, therefore I concluded the bytes had the same meaning up to 1C.
I look back now, and I think I'll double check on those three paddings I added at the end. I checked it on a few Pokemon, and each time it was "00 00 00", but I'll keep looking just in case it does vary for some of them.

Oh, and Coolboyman, I already had those offsets, I've put them in a little DP hex editing tutorial I posted a couple of days ago.

NEED ONE BAD!

No... just... NO!
Did you bother to read anything in the thread? Within the last five pages, we have stated probably more than ten times that map editing is not happening for some time...

I would like to see a pokemon d/p text editor and map editor,
A) If you want a text editor, either make your own, or learn to use PokeText!
B) If you think making a map editor is easy, then make one yourself. I know you never implied that it is easy, but trust us, it isn't easy, especially since everything is in 3D!

so you hackers out there, start making a program!
A) We have already made programs for some of the things we know how to do. Map editors will take quite some time! As for text editors, there is already one out! It is called PokeText, and if you want a new one, make it yourself!
B) We do have our own lives, and don't have to dedicate every breath of them to the hacking community, let us take our time!

Also, what happened to Schizz, he made GBA Hacking stuff, why not NDS?
A) Maybe he doesn't feel like doing it anymore? I've never heard of him, so personally I have no clue...
B) The NDS Pokemon games are much more complicated in the first place.

NEED ONE BAD!
In that case, either:
A) Make your own, or
B) Wait PATIENTLY

Ok... rant over... sorry, just needed to get it out of my system!

Hi, I'm glad to see you have such great interest in hacking the current generation of Pokemon games. I am however, rather happy to inform you that because you just made the most retarded post I've seen in my life, the mapping discoverys that I have made will most likely remain seceret for a good deal longer. I am however extremely impressed that someone of your intelligence level was able to operate a computer well enough to post in this forum, although it seems as if you exhausted all of your mental energy in that worthy endeavor. If you "NEED ONE" as "BAD" as you say, make it yourself. On behalf of the entire staff of PokeSpam Inc. I would like to say, screw you. Thank you.

Fatty, I believe we all know what to do to the system.

Honestly, these guys are right to complain. As the only organized, grammatical poster who is involved in this topic on a regular basis, I'll sum up the reasons.

First of all, everyone seems to believe that hackers or anyone in a hacking group are the slaves to the more illegitimate side of the spectrum that is Pokemon's player base. Sorry, but you're wrong. We have our own lives, and the foremost reason most people research for or script hacking programs is they enjoy it, and they enjoy the results. Don't get me wrong, you're not morally bankrupt just because you request the use of our programs. We're not evil either! You can use them once they're done, and that's all well and good. But you can't expect your will be done just because you have internet access.

Secondly is common sense. Thought about reading the topic before you post? Great idea! You should be glad you thought of it. It's silly to ask the same question someone else did just a couple minutes (or posts) ago, especially when the answer they got was as straightforward as it is in this situation. Face it: mapping, along with everything else, is going to be harder to crack in Diamond and Pearl then it was in third generation Pokemon games. Every time you ask, you simply distract a hacker who could be unlocking these features you're so obsessed with.

Concise, no? Those are the reasons you shouldn't post what you just posted, ecg64. I hope I posted before Gabe got banned ^_^ haha. Have a good day all.

Go here:
http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=3385991&postcount=407

That is my post with a "translated" PokeTEX that I made... it should work fine, and if you still cant figure anything out, then post again, and I shall try to help. ;)

I've been fooling around with this. I was able to modify the colors and even the sprite itself using the .Poke files that came with the download. I'm surprised not a lot of people mention this. However there are some small flaws when using the Unk1 and Unk2; those are super-imposers that replace the regular sprite pattern with the one you were modifying. Making it possible to replace Rowan with Professor Birch/Oak, even replace the Hero's sprite or change it's colors (I wanted a dark Sprite so changed him to look like a French 80s Goth.)

In order to do this however you need to modify all the Hero's sprite patterns. And since the PokeTEX I downloaded came with only a few sprites of the R/S Trainer I had to ignore the fact that he returned to his original sprite whenever he talked to someone, Surfed, or even looked up.

It's a work in progress but it should be masterable given the right hacker. On that note I would love to see more .Poke files that replace the Trainer. I'm interest to see what others have come up with.

EDIT: I've uploaded my French 80s Goth color changes. Notice that there is more then one file. You need to super-impose your Sprite using Unk1 in order to make the changes. What I did is basic but it gives the Trainer a much better look. However you won't be able to change the portrait/back portrait as of yet. I have yet to run into a program that lets you do it for D/P.

I was wondering if I could get a little help, as I've yet to read the answers to my questions in this topic or elsewhere. *could be blind though*

In any case, I didn't start fiddling with Diamond 'til yesterday...namely 'cause my real one went missing, so...used PokeSav to make one work for me. [I have my reasons, it's not actually 'cause I play Pokemon anymore..xD;]

On to the point, I want to do one of two things: either A. Change the character sprites, or B. Change the colour of existing sprites.

With Tahaxan, I have looked through the rom but can't actually find the character sprites, just everything else really. ^-^; If anyone knows where and what they are, please let me know.

If not, I need help with the palette thing. I downloaded PokeTEX and have used it...but, when looking at the list of sprites, no matter what I click, it doesn't show them in the program at all. Which means I have no idea what I'm seeing, nor do I know how to edit them.

In other words, just a simple tutorial for how to change colours simply would be nice. But I'd appreciate any help really, pretty much just wanna satisfy my curiosity is all. x3

it's the text in the box at the bottom, you modify them by typing new numbers

Darksun45230
April 1st, 2008, 03:10 AM
I've noticed that the text itself is the Sprite in data bytes. Could it be possible to reprogram an entirely new Sprite using the bottom half? I'm not that skilled with hacking tools but I'm sure it's possible.

secretcharly
April 1st, 2008, 03:44 AM
first open poketex
after that open the rom
now select a sprite or character and in the colors table change the colors
when you finish go down where say EXTEND and there click sav rom
to change the hero look for the sprite "HERO", no "pokehero"

Rizaria
April 1st, 2008, 04:00 AM
I've tried that. But Hero doesn't even have any colours...and unlike the screenshot you posted earlier, sprites never appear in the top left of the program for me at all.

If we get that tool for editing what pokemon show up on routes plus the trainer editing tool mentioned earlier in the thread I see... potential. By which I mean making Diamond the way it should have been(changign the route pokemon+evolutions to make all 493 catcheable) and by making trainer battles more interesting...

Do you think we could contact the creator of this topic, and see if he'll allow us to PM him edits for the first post? That way people could keep tabs on what's been done, and what hasn't... Good idea? :)

Quick Search -> PokeTEX

PokeTEX is great if not the best Sprite hacking available. We were talking about it a day ago. I just wonder if there is a program that allows you to extract and convert .poke files.

secretcharly
April 1st, 2008, 10:57 PM

i have poke tex and i know how use it, but i was thinking to do sprites like the shinygold trainer or import sprites to the program

Michael Allison

I think he means he would like to import his own custom .bmp, etc. files into PokeTEX, Darksun. I would check the readme.txt in the compressed archive you got when you initially downloaded PokeTEX... Also, I would check the topic specified for PokeTEX.

Well.. What I do to edit palettes is:
» Open your ROM in Tahaxan
» Search the palette you want to edit
» Look at the offset
» Open your ROM in a HEX Editor
» Goto the palette offset
» Edit the colors
[But of course, you could use a program too..]

Excuse me, but might I point out he actually found that picture. No one in this thread edited it (most likely). He isn't trying to not share, he's simply offering helpful information to someone who obviously needs it.

Player A: Do you know what program was used to get this effect?
Player B: It actually wasn't created using a program, but it was created by hex editing.

Seems pretty reasonable to me. I didn't see you offering the kid any help, I just saw you complaining about the quality of said help (which it was). Do I really need to repeat the word "help" any more to make you grasp the concept of thinking before you post? Also, at least use a little tact. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Darksun, I believe there may be a topic for it in the Toolbox, but I'm not sure. Sorry, I'd look, but I'm a bit busy. All the advice I can give you at the moment is to look under File or whatever for anything related to importing. I'll look into this, since no one has posted an answer for you yet :). I'll edit the post by late this evening. See you soon!

Edit:

http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=131272 <-- That's a link to a pallet editor. First page in the Toolbox. Read the forum descriptions next time, please.

I'm not quite sure, Darksun... I can't find a topic anywhere on the forum for PokeTEX, but I'll research it a little bit and get back to you (again).
