So, now that Platinum ROMs are on the internet, will you be messing around with those?Like I said in the PM, thanks for telling this =P
I totally forgot the release date..
Anyway, it's pretty funny to see how they just kept everything from D/P in the ROM and just added some pl_<name> NARCs :D

Lol, yeah, it's basically the same. Anyway, I made a starter editor for it. http://www.sendspace.com/file/15pffq Hopefully I'll have some more tools for it in a bit.

Hey everybody! Since Platinum ROM is out, I looked at it. I found very interesting stuff...
First of all A LOT of useful sprites are editable with TLP/Tiled2002.
These things are really handy, because there are complete trainer back animations (even the old ones).
I'll give you some adresses:
56814620: Back sprites
57796136: Roark (all trainers are near them)
58331136: Team mate sprites (Cheryl, Riley, MARLEY!!!, etc)
58519708: Frontier Aces (First: I BET the american name will be Amelia, Second: DUELMASTERS FTW!, Third: I REALLY HOPE THEY DON'T CENSORE THIS, SOOOO SMEXY)
58614656: Cynthia sort of cinematic sprites.
Also, there are minisprites, totally editable with TLP/Tiled2002.
I think that MAYBE the text could be unencrypted.
If this is the case PLATINUM will become a new favorite among ROM hackers.
Post all your discoveries here!

Lol, yeah, it's basically the same.
Um, not really. Some info may be in the same general area, however.
Also, I have some notes on Platinum. Nothing technical, only Graphics. I'll share more tech notes later.

Eh, they're basically the same :/ Look at platinum and diamond compared in tahaxan

Mapping is (Obviously) the same, and scripting is the same too. The maps in platinum have way more textures, so... yay...

Platinum has more features then D/P so it's better in every way. ;)
Indeed I haven't been reading here much...
I dont feel like checking 51 pages to search how far progress is done..
Anyway so mapping and scripting worked, so basicly it's possible to change D/P's apearance.
Good to hear that. =)

Platinum has more features then D/P so it's better in every way. ;)
I haven't played DP or Platinium, But I liked Ruby and Saphire more then emerald...
Those small features they add in 5 minuts, Is not realy any thing that will make me look differnt at the game...
Indeed I haven't been reading here much...
I dont feel like checking 51 pages to search how far progress is done..
Then you don't fell like knowing how the progress is.. You could either seach, or motivate your self by set the post amount per page up (I only see 32 pages in this thread)

Deppens on what you mean, Ofcause we can change a bit, but not any thing constructive yet... I mean, We could change the apearance when we palete hacked the game first time... But else go seach for Pokespam or DP hacking at youtube, and you'll see a video by Gabe... and get et good laugh by Gabe's sexy voice!

Beyond midway of this thread, FDuarte mentioned that he was attempting to translate Pokemon DP and that he had unpacked the NDS file and had successfully uncompressed the msg.narc file.
I'm interested in doing some text modifications myself. I understand that the repacking of .narc's isn't the best at the moment, but I'm fine with doing basic replacing and not changing the size of the individual files.
My problem is that I can't get the msg.narc to split into individual files. I've tried using narctool, and I know there's a version (narctool-0.1-p) that's supposed to work with nameless bin files within an narc archive, but every time I attempt to use narctool it simply crashes- and of course, other versions will give me an "ERROR".
Any advice on how to solve this dilemma would be appreciated.

I'd recommend trying tahaxan instead and manually reijecting the narc.

I'd recommend trying tahaxan instead and manually reijecting the narc.
Oh, Tahaxan seems to work fairly well for extracting the contents of msg.narc, but it seems only some files will extract and others will not. However, I was still able to do some testing..
However, I'm having trouble manual editing files. I tried to make a table file by modifying the hex of where the intro is found in the game ROM. I imagained to change an "n" to an "o" by upping the hex value, and this seemed to work well. However, if I attempted to copy this value twice in a row- it would delete the second letter.
I decided to run an experienment with Platinum. I knew, thanks to the other user, that the intro for Eng_Pearl was stored in 341.bin of msg.narc (0x00D9B798). I did some visual comparisons, and found that 387.bin in pl_msg.narc (0x01781F74) is the intro for Platinum.
Although the english intro for Pearl is smaller than the one for platinum, I pasted the english bits into the Japanese game and simply blanked out what was left.. The result?
Other than the graphics for the name selection, the entire intro to Platinum is in English- including the Tutorial for the Controls.
So... My question is this. Does anyone know how to make a table file OR does anyone know the hex locations for the Pokemon Names/Attack names? I'm not looking to translate the game, but I want to make it more enjoyable for my personal use.
Thanks.

Through some searching, I managed to find a table file on this site. While the values are stored in double, which I knew, the table file doesn't seem to help any as the text appears scrambled (encrypted), which is what prevented me from being able to make my own. I've been toying around with Eng Pearl to see what I can find- such as patterns, but it's not moving too well. :>

Yeah, I'm aware of Poketext. It seems to be no longer availible on his website. I'm assuming he pulled it waiting for his new release. The only versions I could find on google were for GSC.

Good day all,
I was one of the early-days romhacker (from the year 2000) who left romhacking scene like a few years ago. Actually, I dusted off my skills mainly to try and gather useful information from the rom for Pokebeach (mainly).
First of all, I really would like to thank the compilers of this document (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=131283). Your document surely helped me out alot, especially getting myself back on track. Many thanks to you!
Anyways, the coding is the same - that's great.
Also - some interesting things that would be considered.
I have hacked the Mart data so yeah (well, only Vielstone Dept store, cause I cbf do all areas - as main purpose to do it was to get any new items or w/e) The data format is like Potion, Super Potion, Hyper Potion...whatever. End of the particular list is usually FF.
Secondly, I have some fun messing around trying to get Rotoms new form(e/s)
Burmy & Wormandam:
9C01/9D01 - Plant Cloak
9C05/9D05 - Sandy Cloak
9C09/9D09 - Trash Cloak
Shellos & Gastrodon:
A601/A701 - West Sea
A605/A705 - East Sea
Rotom:
DF01 - Original
DF05 - Wash Forme
DF09 - Spin Forme
DF0D - Frost Forme
DF11 - Oven Forme
DF15 - Cut Forme
Lastly, please give your friendly old man some credits (well, yeah :P)

The cleanest way to do this is with TLP (TileLayer Pro) or TilEd2002.
You have two options. You can extract trbgra.narc or extract 00.RGCN. If you extract the NARC file, you will have to search through it using one of the two programs I mentioned, find your graphic, and edit it. If you extract the RGCN directly, you won't need to search as much with the Tile programs.
Edit the file you extract. Save. If you extracted the NARC, use ndsts to reinsert the file. If you extracted the image directly, check the offsets and hex edit it back into the ROM.
You'll need to twink with the palette to change the colors.

Good research, and you've got thethethethe to thank for that tutorial. Anyway, good to know about the mart data (I'll have to add that into my item editor). Also, your research about the different forms seems to be incorrect, when I use those in a wild battle script it results in either a glitch pokemon battle or a crash, are you sure that it's right?

Thanks.Wow, You're even better spamers then me-_-
Good research, and you've got thethethethe to thank for that tutorial. Anyway, good to know about the mart data (I'll have to add that into my item editor). Also, your research about the different forms seems to be incorrect, when I use those in a wild battle script it results in either a glitch pokemon battle or a crash, are you sure that it's right?
Now for my point:
Gabe, I don't know how much reseach you have done at the wildbattles...
A. I really have no clue, But could you do a mistake in reversing? I dunno much about Wildbattles
B. It could migt not work with wildbattles
C. It could be wrong

might be old news to some of you but Rykin of gbatemp released a partial translation patch. Im trying it and it covers a lot of the system and some of the text. Apparently he just copy/pasted stuff from the english version of DP into platinum (LOL). He isnt motivated to try and translate everything so i think we might just get a little more such as bug fixes. I find it interesting that its possible. It might be a little easier to hack platinum if we know it uses the same encryption as DP.

I'm pretty sure that it's known that the text encryption is the same over DPP. Like how the text tables are the same over all r/s/e/fr/lg, and g/s/c had the same table.
Plus, there's someone who has started translating Platinum already.

I'm thinking of a way of changing the text in Pokémon Platinum with the hex editor, just by changing the Pokémon names in the Pokédex to the English names, but I know the Sinnoh Pokédex in Platinum is different from the Sinnoh Pokédex in Pokémon Diamond/Pearl. But there is the data for the National Pokédex so you can change the names of the Pokémon into the English names. And I know changing the names in the Pokédex can resault in the Pokémon names in English not Japanese. That's all I can know about it, but I know you can change the text with the hex editor.

I did the same using his tutorial, but it's not exactly accurate translations its basically just data splicing from D/P onto platinum..

Hi, i'm pichu2000
Excuse me for bad English, I'm Italian
I found some interesting things about map hacking
For Example, open Twinleaf Town Map (0x2800A44 or fieldata/land data.narc/land data 0)
A map is divided into five parts
The first (0x02800a44 to 0x02801250) changed the movement permissions
00 80= Blocked; 00 00= Free walking; 10 00= Surfing; 69 80= Doors opening
The second(0x02801250 to 0x028013d0) changed 3d models
We see the first model in this forms:
17(Model Number) 00 00 00 80 (Unknown Byte) FA(If you put Fb, you move the model on the right) FF (Unknown Byte) 00 00 01( If you put 04 , it go up) 00 00 00 FA(If you put FB go down) FF 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10(Views model's widht) 00 00 00 10(Views model's height) 00 00 00 10(View model's lenght) 00 00
The third(0x028013d0 to 0x028018df) changed maps texture
I don't know yet how view texture's shapes, we can for now only swap texture)
The forth(0x028018df to 0x02801d80) I don't know the function
The fifth(0x02801d80 to 0x02809cfo) changed map's polygons, but for these we can only attained a very breaked map
The sixth(Start for each maps, with BDHC) I thinks changed height of map land, because if I try to change something the hero sinks into the map and I can see only the hat.

:O Amazing job! I'd been looking for movement permissions! Anyway, I'll try some of this, once again, great job!
Edit: I tried the movement permissions, the offset you gave is to a texture, you might wanna fix that.
Edit 2: Nvm, it's right, I was just being an idiot.
Edit 3: I played around with movement premissions a bit, I found that on routes grass (ecounters) is 00 02.

Yeah, I'm not so worried about translating Platinum so much as I wanted to make some of the basic things in English. I simply copy and pasted stuff from DP into Platinum. No beat feat.
I would like to fix some of the menus and items that weren't in DP, but I need to decrypt/encrypt text to be able to do that.
After a few days of searching, I found the poketext source, and complied it. I tried to modify the code to re-encrypt the data. I got the headers(text pointers) to encrypt/decrypt, but I can't get the text itself to covert.
If anyone has any advice, I'd like to know it.

Why would you hack D/P? Since it's a great game anyway, thus we have no mapping tools for the roms yet.
Sorry Charizard Ruler but i can't agree with that. D/P has some parts where it could improve and a hack of a ds game will be pretty interesting to play.

I've been checking around this forum and stuff, and there's tons of great stuff, but there's just much too much to look through to find links and whatnot. I just began to create a Diamond hack (I'm sick :p) and I've been looking around for tools and such, but I haven't really had all that much luck...I understand that their isn't a Map Editor Tool yet, but specifically, are there working Text and Sprite editing tools...? I can't find any
I plan on becoming a game writer and not programmer, so Hex coding means nothing to me...but I can learn. I was basically hoping to just hack the game, make a different trainer, and re-write the storyline and dialog and all that stuff. A lot of work, not a lot of programming; but I need some tools...
If somebody has/wants to/is making an entirely different Pokemon game, I'd be willing to help with the story. I'm the most amazing writer, but I'm good at making words read as if they were spoken, if that makes any sense.
Last note: Do DP tools work well with Platinum (or will there be Platinum tools soon)? 'Cus I love the new battle screen n_n
Oh, and would it be possible to put at least a little bit of commentary from Stadium/St2/Battle Rev onto the DS Pokemon games...? I realize Voice Acting would make the game a lot more interesting, even if its just Ash saying "Go!" when you send out a pokemon :P
Ok, so two last notes. Deal with it O_o

Well, I've generally gotten the hang of PokeTEX. I guess I'm just first going to make the game based on the Female sprite. Actually, my sprite would be perfect for Platinum - I replaced the Bike with sprites from a Female Skier :-P
I still really need a text editor though...if people've managed to edit the maps, isn't there a text editor somewhere too...?

Hi. Your projekt sound...
Unrealistik, and pointles...
If you don't wanna do any hacking...
DP hacking is at the reseach stage currently and with no done mapping or scripting yet (Even though the mapping has takken some awsome steps the last days:P)then you wont be able to make a story...
If you don't wanna include hex editing, then you neither will come far anyway..
Hex editing is also hacking, and what you'll be spend a lot time... You were just lucky that the last generation had so many tools...
Well, I've generally gotten the hang of PokeTEX. I guess I'm just first going to make the game based on the Female sprite. Actually, my sprite would be perfect for Platinum - I replaced the Bike with sprites from a Female Skier :-P
Good for you, you manged to edit a sprite..

Dude, then seach!?!?!?!? what the **** does map edits, have to do with there's a text editor?
It's made by loadingnow..
My answer for you is two damn word...

Sorry Charizard Ruler but i can't agree with that. D/P has some parts where it could improve and a hack of a ds game will be pretty interesting to play.

Wow... I could say NO a million times but that still wouldn't cut it. There are text editing and sprite editing tools, but just with those you wouldn't be able to create a full DP hack (unless you have the same definition of a hack as Buffy). At the moment most mapping stuff is possible, but it's not easy. The only people know much about scripting are loadingNOW and myself, and I'd say that neither of us knows enough to make a full hack. You most likely won't get any help on this project. As gabe_c said, it's unrealistic and pointless, but I'd like to add that it's stupid.

i just want to edit what some characters say. i can learn to hex edit. i do not want to edit the in-game events themselves.
i will include hex editing if i have to. i've searched everywhere and can't find any text editing tools. editing Fire Red is pointless.
all i want is some help learning to edit the script, and some help using pokeTEX. no need to insult me for asking genuine questions.

It's located in map-matrix
The only I've edited is in 0X271388D

You do know that that is the main way of hacking PMD.
Plus, some mod change this to Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Hacking because that Platinum is hackable the exact same way as DP. Platinum Lucario did it, why not everyone else? All programs ae compatible with the 100MB file.

would it be possible to replace the entire DP overworld with one from a GBA game and then edit that? that way simple GBA hacks would be able to take advantage of the DS battle system and touch screen and stuff.
or something along those lines at least - like just completely ignore/delete the 3d effects

Yes you could replace the overworld
BUT IT WOULD FREEZE AS SOON AS YOU ENTERED A MAP
Diamond/Pearl is 3d

If I'm not mistaken the overworlds in D/P are 2D. And are set out exactly the same as in the GBA games.

That's partially true. While the DP overworlds are simple models with textures on them, you could easily rip the texture and put it into GBA games.

I've managed to successfully hack DP's music. It's not groundbreaking or anything as people have probably hacked DS music before, but I think this may be the first video proof of music actually being changed in Pokemon DP. Still a lot of things to figure out... why the bad drum sound? Why is the bass gone? Why is the song slower than the midi? This is stuff we still have to figure out.

Thanks. Yeah, as far as actually inserting the music goes it's easy. But what I'm having trouble figuring out now is... A. Why the slowdown with the music? B. Why some instruments play faster than others.
But yeah simply changing the music isn't as hard as it seems. The technique I use is, first I convert the midi to an SSEQ file. Then I open the Sound_data.sdat and literally search for where the particular SSEQ file is stored in there. After I find where the SSEQ file is stored in Sound_Data.sdat, I overwrite it with data from my SSEQ file.
It would be pretty cool if someone could make a Sappy like thing for this. If you think about it... it's pretty similar to GBA Music Hacking...
Convert the midi to an .s file ----> Convert the midi to an .SSEQ file
Assemble the ".s" file ----> Find where the original SSEQ data is in the sound file and "overwrite" it.
If I knew anything about programming, I'd get on it myself.

Well Magnius, maybe if you were able to get the source code for Sappy, it would be possible with some tweaking to make it work with NDS games, providing the fomat is as simular as you describe...

Yeah, that would be a good idea. Basically "Mid2SSEQ" already works sort of like a "Mid2AGB" tool. So basically, it'd be a matter of making Sappy recognize ".SSEQ" files and assembling them. Then there's the whole monster of actually making a sort of SSEQ player type thing.

No idea what the intent of Gabe C's post was but... you probably rip it same way as you rip music from DP, which is getting the sound file and using an extarctor. However lol there are some extractors out there that don't work. Out of the two I tried, only one of them successfully extracted the SSEQ files.

He's only saying that because attempting to hack MD with Wordpad is incredibly stupid and is just a very easy way to crash the ROM.
Oh and Sheimi-Manafi, gabe_c is sebbe17/son sebbe, the one who basically did all that ground work for people, who then decided to be stupid and try to hack a ROM with wordpad.

Well that's basically what Sappy is like, you replace the music that's already there. Actually inserting a completely new song into the game, might take some rom expansion or ASM hacking. Or theorectically you could just put a new song in free space, but even then you'd have to change pointers and know the music code.

Anyway, is there anyone working at all on a DPP mapping program? Just wondering....

More music hacking progress, I've figured out the drums and what DP uses for bass tracks. Still can't figure out why the tracks aren't playing at the same time though. If we could figure out that, we could have professional sounding DP remixes.

No idea what the intent of Gabe C's post was but... you probably rip it same way as you rip music from DP, which is getting the sound file and using an extarctor. However lol there are some extractors out there that don't work. Out of the two I tried, only one of them successfully extracted the SSEQ files.
Meaning? I quit hacking a few months ago, may come back to hacking Platinum after I defeated it. Only 5 badges now... Played 3 days.. Anyway, still, which program to use? I never ripped songs before
He's obviously just being sarcastic.
I do know him, but wasn't I the one that discovered hacking with WordPad? I said that before him and he wanted to try it... Also, now there's only one gabe. THe other one changed his name.

I don't think you understand the point of my post. Sebbe never started hacking with wordpad, and he would never even try to do it. He's not stupid. Hacking a ROM with Wordpad is idiotic, and only a simple way to crash the rom.
You would need to take an extreme amount of care just to prevent the ROM crashing. One little unnoticed, accidental backspace, and you're ROM is finished.
Why are you people so afraid of a hex editor? A hex editor's primary function is to text edit, and they're also built to handle large files.
By using wordpad, you're sacrificing ROM safety for your own little ideas on a hex.

thex4, there is something that I have to add. Yes, you have to be mighty careful and I hack ROM's with WordPad until I get a nice translator. THEN I CAN TRANSLATE PLATINUM!!! But until then, I'm just going to offer the Platinum soundtrack. *idea* Oh well, at least WordPad isn't that great, but some ROM's don't even have Hex, so why use that? Are you retarded?
In mathematics and computer science, hexadecimal, base-, or simply hexa or hex, is a numeral system with a radix, or base, of 16 (that is, it ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base-16
Any electricity flowing through a circuit can be represented by base-16 encoding- just like binary.
If you opened a Platinum ROM in Microsoft's WordPad, you froze your computer. A simple word processing program isn't designed to handle sixty-four megabytes of data. Hacking with WordPad isn't just stupid, it's almost impossible.
Fabricate intelligently, and I'll stop hassling you.

@Mike: WRONG!!!! IT'S ACTUALLY 134,217,728 BYTES!!!! 134,217,728 bytes = (64 megabytes * 2) = 128 megabytes. You're wrong, Mike. I win.

But yeah lol from somebody who's had experience with romhacking before though, hacking with wordpad is a pretty bad idea. Yes, I know who you are...
I believe you were at my old msn acount too...
I don't really hack Diamond any more, and slowly (Not working for a month) at the pmd hacking... However, That you declare yourself one of the best scripters dosn't mean you are?
You propperly just are able to scritp in The common pokemon games, and then a bit mario or zelda am I right?
Just tell me if I'm not, and tell which Game you can script in... (Not just a few commands)
Next Either you know the scripting Languese or not, Ofcause there can be tricks and commands you don't know about, but else I wouldn't say you can be the best, just by knowing all the commands (there's less then 256 and with XSE allmost all their names exsplain what they does)
Writing story for scripts, has nothing to do with scripting... I don't care if you're autistik and are able to convert decimal numbers to hex, in 0.0001 second. That wouldn't make you a better scripter...
In art you could be the best and creative, and think like no other, but It's kind of limited in a math based subject like scripting
Have you been doing and work at the scripting knowlegde we got today, or just learnt by other peopels work?
I could understand if you were one of the people who decoded the RSE/FRLG scripting languese, but are you?
What does make you a good scritper?

No, BInary isn't mine, I just set it as the normal system language to replace Hex. Anyway, now that we're still on Binary:

11001000
10011101
00101101

Meaning- Hello.
Not! I just fake it. There are ROM's that can't be read by HEXeditors, I use Binary. Plus, I know hacking with WordPad is stupid and dangerous (mostly stupid) but I quit since May, stop rubbing it in.
Also, there is a way to change the pokemon, I'm not sure now or when. Also, Map hacking is possible, we just edit the palettes. That's it. Nothing big yet :(

as far as im concerned the game plays in frames? im not 100% about this either, but if it is then we would have to create a set of frames for each building? alot of work..
as the d/p tweaking glitch (search it on youtube) proves, whole sinnoh is made out of "squares". they automatically load when you're about to see them. this is why a city turns into a glitch city when you enter it on a side while there are only trees (walk through walls code). so sinnoh isn't built from maps.

October 19th, 2008, 05:15 PM
Those arent squares those are polygons! Hehe i think i found a solution to map editor. What if you extracted the polygons and textures apart. The polygons would then need graphics. Or textures. So basically mapping editor would be made of textures and polygons. For trees and houses and all. Not sure bout ruoutse and such.

Binary and hex are the same, merely in a different base. Anyway, read the thread! You can do loads of mapping stuff! Palette editing isn't map editing. Stop being an idiot.
there's been alot of spam and off topic discussion in this thread, and its pretty annoying seeing as its our only d/p/p hacking thread, so lets get on topic, (btw i do see that we have gotten more on topic with these hex' although ya'll arent being very serious, anyway im not trying to backseat mod either, but does anyone have any idea as to how we're supposed to map hack, or if its even possible to really create a program for this? as far as im concerned the game plays in frames? im not 100% about this either, but if it is then we would have to create a set of frames for each building? alot of work..

However, may I send a request out to you all?
READ THE THREAD.
If you haven't read through the thread, and I mean all the way through:
PLEASE DON'T ASK A QUESTION.
This thread has been clogged up already with people asking if PokeTEX works with English Roms, etc., when such discoveries have been clearly posted. (By myself, in this thread)
If there is a summary posted eventually, this point may become moot.

It is for DP but I'm fairly sure it's the same for the GBA games too. I know for sure the egg data he wrote is the same, I just can't remember the gender off the top of my head.
I think 254 = Female, 00 = male, 255 = Genderless, 177 = 50%.

If by "latest version" you mean my (inaccurate and poorly) "translated" version, then you're partially incorrect. It is no different from (probably) any other version of PokeTEX that you will find in how it operates. The only thing mine's got is that I changed the text of the buttons to something that the rest of us non-Japanese reading people can understand.

I haven't seen this question anywhere on this thread, and I believe I have read the whole thing (took for ever) and I don't want to make a nuisance of myself by asking something so basic.... but here goes:
I have been able to edit overworld sprites easily. I'm working on editing text. My big problem comes to editing battle sprites, I want to edit my rivals sprite and my characters back sprite (when he throws the pokeball at the start of a battle) but PokeTEX doesn't seem to have an option to do that (I can't find anything on the list that corresponds to the battle sprites only overworld sprites).
Could somebody please inform me as to what program to use to edit battle sprites, and prehaps give me a very basic tutorial (just a 1. 2. 3. step guide, I can work the rest out by myself I'm sure).

first of all there are no tiles in D/P/P. There are textures.
That thing you probably saw, is probably things they were going to include but never did.
Kind of like the fact emerald has GSC songs in...but they were never used or needed.
I very much doubt it's a "fake" sinnoh. Because it's not like the real Sinnoh wasn't included o.O
that map could even be part of a map connection to be fair...
also would of helped to have a screen.

I never said it was exactly 64,000 steps NORTH of Shinou, where, I am guessing, by Serebii's new PokEarth, is Almia supposed to be. Anyway, it is exactly what Zeikku said, they are textures and they were not used in the game. Oddly, I saw a WILD Weavile and it was... ahem, different. A thousand apologies for the double-post, but I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4Qm3p-S3qY which shows everyone False Sinnoh which is slightly different. And you can catch a legit Darkrai. Finally! Not a cheat, but something.

There's a reason this is called the DPP Hacking thread. Since you've previously shown you how good you are at figuring this sort of thing out, I'll let you figure out why. Hint: HACKING

i have a theory... when i hack ps2 savestates in hex i have to "uncompress" it by changing the extra extension to .gz and then... well.. uncompressing it making the file bigger and hex-able... so why dont you change you rom name to
pokemondiamon.nds.gz and decompress it with 7zzip... this is just a thought and blah if it doesnt work

Only parts of the rom are compressed, not the whole thing.

Honestly, this is not your personal glitch thread, this the the DPP Hacking thread. If you want to talk about your glitches then go make a thread, don't just derail this thread.

I posted this in pichu2000's tutorial but I'm not sure anyone noticed it, it was a sequence of three edits:
Here is an example of trainer battle events and of trainer battle scripts.
These are trainers in Route 202.
00 00 04 00 0F 00 01 00 00 00 B8 0B 01 00 05 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 A6 00 2D 03 00 00 01 00
01 00 06 00 0F 00 01 00 00 00 BA 0B 01 00 04 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 B5 00 32 03 00 00 01 00
02 00 04 00 0F 00 01 00 00 00 B9 0B 01 00 05 00
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 B9 00 24 03 00 00 01 00
For certain battles, the battle is linked from the event file by using a number between 0xBB8 and 0xF08. These battles are ordered according to trdata.narc and trpoke.narc
This is the second battle with Cyrus:
E5 00 94 01 00 00 EC
If you search the script file for E500 you will get 102 instances. Not all of these are trainer battles. Only the ones that have a number between 0x1 and 0x1 and 0x351.
A warp is showed in this way
74(bOH) 6B 03(Animation) 9C 01(Maps in which you are going to go)
Here's a list of Warp - Maps
This should be
74 00 6B 03 9C 01 00 00
[2 bytes for X coordinate] [2 bytes for Y coordinate] [two bytes for Map Number] [2 bytes for warp number within that map]
The event files have 4 sections.
As of now I don't know what the first and last are for but I will figure it out.
The file starts out with 4 bytes telling you how many of the first type of events there are. Then each entry is 0x14 bytes long.
Then come 4 bytes telling you how many "person" events there are. Each person event is 0x20 bytes long.
Then come 4 bytes telling you how many warps there are. Each warp event is 0xC bytes long.
Then come 4 bytes telling you how many of the fourth type of events there are. Each of these events is 0x10 bytes long.
Now all locations use all of these types of event. When a type is not used the 4 bytes which tell you how many of that type there are will be 00000000, then then next 4 bytes will be how many of the next type of event there are.
There are a few event files which don't have any events at all. The look like:

Do you mean the overworld sprite editor? This one is still a work in progress.
Poketex is also one you can use (but D-Trogh's will be easier to use).
You can find links to in in this thread. Please search.

I posted a link to various versions of PokeDSPic. This is a program from which you extract sprites edit them and reinsert.

Get Nitro Explorer 2 from : http://acmlm.kafuka.org/board/thread.php?id=3369
Open the rom with Nitro Explorer 2 and look in the poketool folder then in the pokegra folder for the pokemon sprites. Use the extract function to save these narc files to your computer.
Look in the trgra folder for two narc files with trainer sprites.
I believe I included loadingNOW's version for DP in my package. But if not then you can download it at loadingNOW's site:
http://pokeguide.filb.de/ (look for the link to PokeDSPic).
