Your cartridge is black? Yours is the one that's weird, my friend. It might be a flashcart. Or you may have the winning cartridge to the contest they held way back when. $1,000 in pokemon prizes.
Just kidding.

Then it is a good fake. NO LeafGreen game that came from the proper manufacturer will EVER come in a color other than Green.

Fake carts still work to some extent I believe. Depending on how it was made.
But LG carts are meant to be green cased, meaning yours must be a counterfeit one. See below:

It's usually pretty obvious. If the wording throughout the story doesn't seem right, it's a fake.

I see. Well how much would a copy of the real fire red and leaf green sell for?

I'm not sure about other currencies but in Australia, they're currently around $50-60.

Where did you get it from? They're not really that expensive... when they were released, they were included with the wireless link so they totaled 39.99 USD. However they've taken it out since then and it's only 19.99 in the US.
In gamerhead.com,
They don't have the prices for green/red, but the others are in the 62AUD range. So I would shoot for a tad lower maybe low 60- mid 50 AUD.
Also, I would return it for a refund. Quick. As you can see, there's a battery there. Most likely its saved in RAM backed up by battery.

Just because it's fake doesn't mean it works badly, some fakes are near-genuine copies. It's just the cartridge that gives it away. ;)
