I have everything set up and it says that I can access the internet with my DS when I test it... but what do I do now... because all I can figure out is how to test it and nothing else... how do I actually sign in online for the pokemon once everything is set up? i feel like a noob...

Once your DS is setup to use Wi-Fi, you will need to go to a place in-game that utilizes it. The bottom floor of the Pokémon Center is all for Wi-Fi trades and battling. This is where you will need to give your friend code to someone, and get that person's friend code in return, to be able to see them as online and communicate with them. The right counter at the Battle Tower uses Wi-Fi to download trainer data for you to battle. The GTS (west from the Jubilife Pokémon Center) lets you trade anonymously to several trainers worldwide.

Once you connect to Wi-Fi once, your friend code will be listed in your Pal Pad. I believe your first time accessing Wi-Fi in the Pokémon Center, you will be asked if you want to receive your friend code, so that is a way to get it too. I didn't do this though, so I can't really say.

You will need to go to Oreburgh City in your journey first before the bottom floor is left unblocked. I'm assuming you just started and haven't reached Oreburgh yet?
