View Full Version : You're just a quitter..

..you've been better since I came along.

^ Props to anyone who knows those lyrics.

Anyway, onto the topic of Wi-Fi battling. I've had two battles today from people over at the Gamefaqs board, both people quit the battle just before I was about to win.

Battle 1:

Opponent was down to two Pokémon: A weakened Snorlax and badly poisoned Ambipom. I had three Pokémon left and had just brought out Heracross. Just as I went to, presumably, KO his Snorlax, he quits the game.

Battle 2:

Opponent was in the lead to start with. His Metagross KOing my Togekiss. (managed to get a Yawn in, which turned the tide of the battle, really) I bring out Tyranitar and Dragon Dance. He hits me with an Earthquake before falling asleep. I perform another DD and then Earthquake it. He brings out Glaceon and KOs me with an Ice Beam and an item, presumably a berry, that allowed it to go first?

I bring out Glaceon, get a OHKO. He then brings out Drapion, who then gets 2HKO'd by Gengar. He follows up with his Gengar. My Gengar goes first and it's another OHKO. He's down to two Pokémon, I have four left, though Gengar is on it's last legs. He brings out Infernape. I hit a Hypnosis to put it to sleep. Immediately after, he quits.

So, my question is: Have you had a cowardly opponent quit just as you were about to win just to avoid a blotch on their trainer record? Or, have you actually quit a battle just to keep your win:lose ratio in tact?

And I'm just wondering if there's anything we can do about it. I was thinking of naming and shaming people, but that only works on members of this site, really. :\

But, really, it's annoying as hell and incredibly pathetic. I wish Nintendo would've given an automatic loss for the player that disconnects during battle. Sure, it's a little cruel on the people who legitimately get disconnected, but it'd prevent the cowards from doing the same.

And you worked that out, how? I was winning both battles before the other person quit. How does that make me bad at Pokémon?

How did I cheat then? Come on then, genius, point out where I could have cheated from the battles I posted. I was cheating because I could kill a Glaceon and Gengar with one shot and a Drapion in two?

You know nothing, so shut up if you're just going to throw false accusations around.

Read the first post, I was battling two people from the GameFaqs board, I wouldn't post that I beat them on a different board. My two wins on this board came against Hoshiko and diaoman yesterday. So get your facts straight please. Thanks.

I never once said I was good. In fact, read through some of my other posts and I repeatedly say that I'm quite inexperienced at online battling. Again, get your facts straight.

And, no, I don't wanna battle you. You make me cringe with embarrassment with how bad your grammar is. Please, stay in school. And I bet you're a cheat, given how you blindly accuse other people of cheating. Hiding something, perhaps?

Okay, break this fight up right now, or I will be forced to hand out some warnings.
Also, dugtrio's diglet, four words in each post. And I hardly count "lololol" as a word.

Fine, I'll battle you. Then we'll see who the real cheat.

I apologise, Nayana. Sometimes idiots get me too riled up. I'll try to be more reserved in the future.

Rofl, I ran away from my brother once... He was using hacked pokemon against me. He battled my friend and got owned though. 8D
I don't battle any random people unless they're my friends and we're just playing around. So nah, I've never had any run from me before. I don't think it's cowardly... It's just a game. Go find someone else to play with. :S

I've quit one battle by accident but on the forum where we challenged eachother admitted defeat.

My win lose ratio at this point must be 0:5

Yeah, I suck at this game. I can put up a decent challenge though. Sometimes.

Randomly should a Palkia of equal level (with all stats over 200) be able to take down another Palkia in one shot with Dragon Pulse? I'm honestly not sure. Neither of the two Palkias in this challenge were raised by me but it seemed odd. Same adversary Palkia K0ed a Mewtwo in just two shots, mostly eradicating it in the first move.

Did you have voice chat on?
The second guy, it just sounded like maybe he needed to go, like he was going somewhere. Parents dragging him somewhere, or he had to go to a job, or something, ect, and if you didn't have voice chat on, he would have no way to tell you.
The first guy, however, yeah, I see your point.
However, I think it's fine the way it is, because, while there are cowards out there, there are way more peopl who just accidently get diconnected, or are pulled away by real life.

Edit- I thought of something. Maybe a better idea then putting one down for win, and the other for loss would be that the person who quits still doesn't have anything happen to his record, but you still record a win? I dunno, that just seems more fair for people who get kicked off their connection.

I don't belive Legacy deserves any punishment for standing up to a troll.

On-topic: This kind of thing happened to me all the time in MKDS. I'd get half a lap ahead of beginners who don't know how to MT and they'd disconnect. I got to the point where I deliberately went easy on them (unless racing at least one other expert) just to keep them in the game. :D

I haven't battled anyone I didn't know in D/P yet, so this hasn't happened to me. I need to actually raise my competitive team before I challenge random players on chats. ;)

I never actually ran from a battle... three circumstances where I couldn't finish a game, though. Two times my internet cut out on me near the end (and a few others where the net cut out near the beginning), and one time I was in the middle of a battle where someone came over to help fix my car, and I had to leave. That one was awkward. :P

But if that ever happens, I just go by what looks like was gonna happen. If I was gonna lose, I count it as a loss on my record here. Through mutual agreement, of course.

LOLz. Yeaup, just today I was battling Piplup Master (He was cussing during the entire battle)and he was beating me at the beginning and then I started coming back. And I had a red Alakazam and an Empoleon at barely above half HP and he had Leafeon at yellow and Honchkrow at full.
So then he used Giga Drain on my Empoleon which didn't do much but put me in yellow.
And I KO'd his Glaceon with Shadow Ball from Alakazam. Then my Empoleon Ice Beam'd his Honchkrow bringing it to yellow. Then his Honchkrow's Night Slash KO'd Alakazam via Critical Hit. And got Drift in near red but not at red. So it was Empoleon and Honchkrow. I used Ice Beam (His friend said: He beat you man!) and KO'd it. And he turned the game off. :P

Yosh! Shift is back!

Anyway, you can ask anyone I've battled here that I don't disconnect despite negative circumstances. Everyone here schooled me by about... I dunno... 6 Pokemon. On Metroid Prime Hunters, though, anyone who disconnects gets points for your rank taken off.

I don't run away. I just take the defeat. But that hasn't happened lately. =D

Though, I won like 3 or 4 battles now, but on my Trainer Card is says one win. Blaaah. XD

I've never run from a fight, no matter how hopeless it seemed. I have had kids in my neighborhood disconnect because they were losing. If you lose, then you got beat by someone better than you or you just aren't any good. And if you hack and STILL lose, then the other person is extremley better than you, AND your a bad hacker. I mean, if your going to hack, be sure to do it right, geez... :tired:

The win:loss ratio on my Trainer Card is about 12:1 (I was bored once so I sent out "Mewthree," which was a Lv.5 Magikarp with a nickname. It was very much worth the loss on my card. I like to annoy people). If nobody left on purpose in the middle of our battles, it would be more like 19:1. I don't bother myself worrying about people who can't lose gracefully. Besides, many people don't know that the "run" option results in a loss rather than a draw (I admit that a couple of my wins came that way. Hehehe). But, hey? Battling's about fun, not wins. If some people don't get that, it's their problem... Geez, that last line sounds cheezy...

Two of my friends turned the game off (on GBA) and wasted an hour of my life in total.
One of them actually had a right to, since I was slaughtering all of his Pokemon with a lvl. 100 Mew, but I hit him in the knee just because he's a pissant and he started whining about how much the little nip hurt him.
The other one reset the game when I completely turned the tides on him with my digging Raticate, but I didn't mind so much because he's less of a whelp and I was intruiged by how he reset the game by pushing buttons.
The only battle I've ever "run away" from was when I was destroying a server leader in Net Battle (the computer program) and all of his cronies were amazed at how a n00b was beating him. Then my mom switched off my connection and I got really mad and haven't net battled since.

But I still hate how people try to keep a perfect record even though they don't have enough skill to actually win. I know it's a game, but I'm posting in a freakin' forum about it when I should be sleeping.

hehe my record is real.
I battle all the time on wifi and with my friends.

I win and I lose but I never quit.

I have had some people quit on me though when they started losing

that's IS annoying but whatevers, they're lame quitters.

hehe I've won more than I've lost though.

Yesterday I literally ran away from a trade/trade back. I was at a friends house trading to help fill our pokedexes, so once we traded I just ran for it. Though I'd never been to his house before so I couldn't find the door and came back...but anyone who leaves a battle like that just cheats. If they turn off their game then the battle should be counted as a win for you.

Oh my god... There is a 4 word limit now? What's next? I have to make sure i have the letter "A" in my posts?

There's always been a 4-word minimum in the areas where posts were counted >.>

Anyways...no, I don't run. I don't think it's fair, honestly. If I get disconnected, then it's just my wireless going dead (like it likes to do once in a while) and I get right back on to restart the battle. The only time I might run would be if my opponent turned out to be using a hacked Pokemon or brought in a Legendary in a non-Legendary fight or something...
