View Full Version : My theory on shinies...

I have a theory on shiny pokemon... The first time i got gold and silver, I didn't know anything about shinies, the only one I had was gyarados. Like the three pokemon games before gold and silver, I named my character Wes, but when I started a new game on gold, I named my character Cloud (i like ff7) and as soon as I got to the area under the daycare I found a shiny ditto, so in silver I changed the name to Cloud and Found two shinies, an Onix and a Teddiursa, In R/S/E I named my character Wes in Emerald and never once saw a shiny, In Ruby I named my character Ash, and started with a shiny Torchic and caught 3 shinies, zubat, seedot, and rayquaza. lol way off-topic, and in Pearl, I named my Character Space and found two shinies, Elekid, and Absol. Long story short, I think the chance of you finding a shiny is determined on your name.

But how come I didn't "get lucky" ANY of the other times? And when I change my name, I catch them, also the mirage island event is based on your name, y couldn't this be?

Based on my name, what you mean?

The mirage island event in R/S, is only activated when you trade alot, and get a Pokemon with a "Mirage Island Friendly" OT.

The chance of finding a shiny is always 1/8192 = 0.01220703125%. The only way to boost this chance is by chaining encounters with the PokeRadar, some method I won't even bother with, as I'm not interested in shinies, since they're usually the wrong nature.

And you're both fixing to get in trouble if you don't shut up and get back to the topic. This kind of asinine juvenile argument isn't permitted... anywhere. <.<

Sorry, I'll have to stop this asinine behaviour.

Thank you for telling me off Ichidna.

And yes back to the topic, I think your theory could be defined quite true, or to the contrary. 8D

o.o What theory? just dumb luck? I remember one time, I named my character what I always name him "Danny" and on crystal, the first wild Pokemon I encountered was a Shiny Sentret... I wasn't exactly happy about that... I turned off my system about ready to throw it at someone.

Shiny Pokemon, or Alternate Color as Gamefreak calls them. They will always have the slim chance of finding them, even if your name is BOB, ASH, DIAMOND, PEARL or any other name you can think of, you will always have the same chances of finding a shiny.

Why would you be unhappy? The first Pokemon you encounter being shiny seems hilariously fortunate to me. :P

How am I not supposed to be offended? Also, the shiny pokemon 1/1892 chance, isn't that just an estimate?

The magic of dumb luck, isn't it awsome? There is no connection between odds and names. If it were real maybe I'll jhave atleast 5 shinies, but I don't.Chao!

IDK, I think its true, because I never find shinies when I name my character Wes, sometimes I start games with wierd names and find a few shinies, but i usually start with my name, and never find them.

if it was by name that was true some japanese programmer would have figured it out a long time ago and it would be all over the internet and there would be a FAQ on how to get all shinies. i think the chance is 1/8192. heres a website:

The chance of finding a shiny is always 1/8192 = 0.01220703125%. The only way to boost this chance is by chaining encounters with the PokeRadar, some method I won't even bother with, as I'm not interested in shinies, since they're usually the wrong nature.

I dunno, lol, you might have taken it the wrong way. Anyway, yes it is an estimate. But, it is around the ratio. That number wasn't plucked out of thin air.
