What do you want to see in a Hack?

I'm just trying to get ideas here so I can add things to my hack. Pokemon Sugilite. Top secret to I won't be making a topic about it in the display. I might once I make a beta.

So what do you guys want to see in a Hack these days? Give me some ideas.

I'd like to see a hack that you could be evil in alot like the Pokemon Rockets Revenge (that's in development) and there was Pokemon light and darkness which was one that oyu could choose your side in (development was stopped). Being evil and having a differant storyline would be great because I'm getting sick of the typical storyline collect 8 badges and fight the elite 4 all hacks are based around it almost.

Just my opinion though.

I'm trying to do this myself, but a completely new region, completely new layouts, ive' been trying to make towns that connect to two different places, for instance in Pallet town it goes down and up, mine goes down and then right and left.

If anyone could understand that :P

I think what people try to find in hacks are originality and new regions, with new maps, and new characters. Just something original i guess would be enough to satisfy people.

What I guess would be good in a hack is more sidequests...you know, so that it doesn't feel stale? I mean, sidequests do make up about 20% of almost any Pokemon Game. Stuff like, find the rare item, or perhaps revealing the location to a new legendary Pokemon? And Day & Night would be good, if someone could figure out a script for that. >< And new sprites (Like Revamps for instance) in place of the old Pokemon sprites. Improved graphics on Maps, Pokemon, Trainers, and OW's also help a game/hack feel newer, in my opinion.

I'd like to see one that used completely original content (I.E. your own sprites for bulbasaur, your own songs, your own characters [other than pokemon obviously], your own geography) and the ability to trick this rom into thinking it's apart of the diamond/pearl or r/s/e series so it can linkup with them. If that's not possible then Why not just make your own game, where instead of 'catching pokemon' it's you and a couple of friends who go around battling people one on one or two on two.

id like to see maybe like a storyline of how pokemon were just being created, and you could catch some but not all, and unlock different places to get different pokemon. Idk, somethin like that.:)

Yeah, I was just thinking that a hack with a more original plot (and more side quests) is badly needed. The "Earn eight badges, beat Elite Four, become champion" plot line is getting pretty darn old by now...

Also, some innovative and interesting scripting would be cool.

Finally, some choice in the plot line. Where you make decisions, which affect all your game play throughout the game. Maybe choose between options occasionally, and what you do affects what happen later. (I don't know, maybe your rival dies or something).

Plot, plot, plot is the key.

I'd like to see one where events happen, like in Zelda Ocarina of Time, Kakariko Village gets caught on fire, which would be cool to see in Pokemon. Another cool thing to see would be a battle change, instead of that same battle screen from the very first Pokemon version, maybe it'd be like it is when you're traveling around. Basically, watching a battle. xD

What version should I hack? Ruby, Sapphire, Leafgreen or Firered. If I'm going to do LeafGreen or FireRed I'll need a list of Pokemon and Item Values for PokeScript. Does anyone know where to get that?

Simple Script Creator has a list of most of the Firered item values. Unfortunately, I can't find it anywhere anymore. Ask around and you might come across it.

Wow I'd really like to see a hack that gives you the possibility of letting a pokémon out of the pokéball to follow you. It'd be really cool, and you could use those sprites of when you go to see your team on the menu if you're kinda lazy(of course, some size adjustments).

I think that the following would be good:

1. The starters being Cyndaquil, Mudkip, and Bulbasaur. It would be a perfect blend of the first 3 gen starters.

2. Extreme length. If it is at ALL possible, the first 3 regions to be accessible, starting in Johto, then going to Kanto as normal, then lastly Hoenn after that, accessed by the boat dood (sic) in Vermilion.

3. Every one to be catchable. I hate having to cheat to get legendaries, and to have to run multiple emulators at a time to trade between.

4. A plot that has being heroic, going to the villianous side to double-cross them, and all that kinda crap.

5. Popular culture references. For example, a guy wearing a turtle on his head and trying to find a huge ramp to go down with his bike.

If there was a way to do that all in one game, I would be forced to give it 100 out of 5. Twenty times better than GSC in that case.

i think it would be good if you were able to join the 'baddies'
like the ability to join team rocket/magma/agua for eg.

i also think that a game where you are the gym leader
or when you actualy beat the elite 4 and become champion then you actualy have to act as the champion, for eg. defeating challengers etc

Original characters (meaning characters not Red, Brendan, etc.)
Custom made tiles (Preferably ones that aren't overused...but I don't think there's any overused ones yet)
A choice of 3 pokemon that aren't the same old Fire, Water and Grass.
Original Region Maps
BGMs being edited/replaced with BGMs from other games or custom made.

I would love to see Orre converted to a GBA game. I'm not sure how you'd handle the lack of routes, or some very bizarre buildings, but it'd be awesome.

I only ask for, if a region is said to be brand new, to have new overworld map (unlike Pokémon Quartz, for instance, where the region is in fact redesigned Hoenn).
But the thing that turns me away from a ROM Hack is modifying Pokémon themselves, new names, new moves, 4-gen Pokémon in 3-gen hacks... OK, so I can't trade them with officials anymore. That's great.
Everything else, as long as it's still Pokémon, is fine by me.

I think a hack is good as long as it has a decent script and decent maps. I hate hacks when the people do something like change the starters to johto pokemon or change names like soda pop to beer and think theyve done something groundbreaking. Rockets Revenge looks really promising.

I think you should put in more starters than three. On the Ruby hack im working on there are 9 plus its based on real gangs, real places and contains evos to underused pokemon. ;)

Certain Pokemon will be given to you at Pokemon Centers. There will be nurses up te top that instead of trade Pokemon they give you quests to make you go and find Items for them. Once you take the item to them they give you the Pokemon. And yes I know how to do this. The Pokemon will be rarer depanding on the quest you have to do for them. You might have to defend the Pokemon Center from the new gang. Oh by the way the new gang's name is Rocket Desendo. I will post more when I have a Beta Version.

im startin a hack called pokemon frontier version: A remake of firered. It starts off u choosing ur gender and u just arrive in Pallet Town. Its about the battle frontier. Im working on the battle pyramid. So far im just trying to transfer battle pyramid tiles onto my firered. So u battle brandon and u beat him. but he doesnt give u the symbol. NOTE: All battle facilities will be where they were said to be in the anime. The battle pyramid will be made again in for the second time will be in Seafom Island. Then it will be transported to the indigo plateu. Im still not sure what to do after im done wsith that....oh and the PET tool for battle editing....i need help with it....cuz whejn i load it from firered it just doesn't show the sprites if u no how to fix or no anything plz message me...im dying to no how without PET my hack will be gone!!

Ummm Hey Short Range, slight problem... If you have the previously mentioned starters (Makuhita, Natu, Poochyena) there will be som massive advantages based on who you start with.

Makuhita - 1/4x damage to Natu, 2x damage to Poochyena
Poochyena - 1/2x damage to Makuhita, 2x damage to Natu
Natu - 2x damage to Makuhita (with both types), 0x damage/1x damage to Poochyena...

About that replacing thing... I'm making something similar called Pokemon Regions with all 386 Pokemon from the advanced generation catchable plus 15 4th generation Pokemon. Its cool.

What I'd like to see is the first three regions, plus the Shamouti Islands, plus New Island.(making it right now)

2.unique and solid story
3.Long sidequests that lead to event pokemon(like trying to get an necklace from an old lady and a ho-oh appearing w/ it.but a much better story).
4.great maps(no giant starter towns w/ exception of west academy)
5.if there are,unique fakemon that look good.
6.a gym or unique building(honestly in all the games none of the places have a treadmill.no wonder those kids are so fat)
7.revisiting the most memorable regions.
8.not that much profanity
9.new ways of going to other places(i'm sick of bikes and ships now)
10.NO lackluster events.

You would need to hack the game engine, and that would be a challenge in itself.

It's not impossible. It's very easy. Just use the Map Editor in Advance Map to change the locations of Pokemon. Shiny Gold is gonna have every Pokemon in it. :/

In my opinion, what makes a good hack is organized, professional looking graphics. A good pallet can go a long way for a good hack. :)

Graphics aren't always everything about a hack, and you should know that. What the hack really depends on are good events and scripts and a good long story, instead of something like-"It's your birthday! You wake up, get a pokemon and start your journey!" And I have seen stories like that. But you're also right in a way, most people get attracted by the graphics, but a good mixture of good events, scripts and graphics are the main components of a great hack.
