~Introduction~

It'd be a bit weird if you went through this whole thread without the tiniest idea of who I am, so let me introduce myself! My name is Houndoomed, and I am the creator of Pokémon Scarlet Version. I'm not alone though, I have many brilliant people who help me make Pokémon Scarlet Version what it truly is. I started work way back in February 2007 when we were still unheard of. We've come a long way since then, and now we are very well known.

Pokémon Scarlet Version is a new fangame based on Nintendo's extremely popular franchise, Pokémon. It includes 149 new Pokémon custom created by our team, a whole new region to explore, a new and mysteriously interesting storyline, new characters and much much more!

I will be retiring from game making very soon, but Pokémon Scarlet Version will still go on, as I won't just let months of hard work go to water. The game will be handed over to Lorem Ipsum, who will be continuing from where I left, and I hope (I know!) he will do an excellent job. So that's mostly it, nothing else to say except for...

~Storyline~

Pokémon Scarlet takes place 20 years before the events of Pokémon R/B/Y (even though new Pokémon feature in Koyoto, they do not appear in any other region). You play as a young Lance, who grows up to be one of the world's most famous Pokémon Masters, and one of the Kanto Elite Four. Lance’s cousin, Clair, is also a character in this game. Clair grows up to be the Gym Leader of Blackthorn City Gym. Both Lance and Clair move to Blackthorn City when they are older. Pokémon Scarlet expands the history of these two characters in an exciting and new, not used before in a Pokémon game, way.

So without further ado, I present the story of Scarlet.

Your name is Lance*. You live in the town of Hazelbranch in the region of Koyoto, along with your younger cousin, Clair. You have been living here for a long time, and things have always been more and less peaceful... until now.

Today marks the day of your 13th birthday, and to celebrate, you are getting your very first Pokémon. You head downstairs, where your Mom is waiting for you. She wishes you a happy birthday, and allows you to go and get your Pokémon from Prof. Maple. Once you arrive at Prof. Maple's Lab, you realize you're not the only one getting their first Pokémon today. Your cousin, Clair, is too. She then offers Clair to take one of the three Pokéballs on the table. She declines the offer, and says that you should choose first, seeing as it is your birthday. After choosing one of the Pokémon on the table, Clair takes the Pokémon with the opposite type as yours. Prof. Maple then gives you a Pokédex each, and you both leave the Lab, after thanking her for the gifts.

You then go to your Mom to show her your new Pokémon. She tells you that she is proud of you, and warns you to be careful on your journey. After leaving your house, you notice several men surrounding who appears to be Prof. Maple. You recognize one of the men instantly - Giovanni! A neighbor and one of your close friends. You go over to take a closer look. It seems Prof. Maple knows some very important information about something - but what? Giovanni says he is kidnapping Prof. Maple and is bringing her to Team Rocket HQ.
He then turns to you and tells you not to try to find them, because you never will.
He then takes off with Prof. Maple and the other mysterious men, laughing mischievously while he makes his escape.

It turns out Clair had saw and heard what happened also, and she asks you inside her house to discuss what just happened. She is in disbelief that Giovanni kidnapped Prof. Maple, and demands that the pair of you should search all of Koyoto in hope of finding her, and bringing her back to safety. All you know is that they went to a place called Team Rocket HQ, and that you must try to find it. She says that you can still be a Pokémon Trainer at the same time. She believes that if you train your Pokémon by defeating all of the Gym Leaders in Koyoto, you would be strong enough to defeat Giovanni and the rest of Team Rocket the next time you encountered each other.
But the most important question was WHY Team Rocket wanted Prof. Maple. What did she know that they didn't? You won't know until you infiltrate Team Rocket's Headquarters and find her.

After you have made up your mind to go on search for Prof. Maple, you must also tell your Mom about the huge decision you have made. At your house, you tell her everything that happened. She was shocked to hear about Prof. Maple, but wasn't surprised to hear Giovanni was a Team Rocket Admin, as she always knew there was something strange about him. After taking several moments to think about it, your Mom finally allows you to go and find Prof. Maple. She gives you a pair of Running Shoes as a birthday gift, as she forget to give them to you earlier. She tells you to be careful, and wishes you luck.

And with that, you and Clair begin your quest for rescuing Prof. Maple, and along the way become some of the strongest Pokémon trainers the world has ever known...

* Note that you can choose any name for yourself. Lance is the default name.

The Koyoto Region

This region is located South of Sinnoh. It's a fairly large and sunny region, although some parts are completely covered in snow. A large attraction of the region are the Tri-Islands - three small identical islands, forming a triangle. Many mysteries and strange things are occuring in the region. There is also an ancient tale of a legendary city that had been lost for centuries - under the sea. Is this legend true? Or simply just myth...

Lance
Lance is a headstrong young boy who has an odd affiliation with Pokémon. His favorite type is dragon type, though he has never seen one. It is his dream to become the greatest Pokémon Trainer. He is the male protagonist of the game.

Clair
Although younger than Lance, Clair must still watch over him. She is very mature for her age and loves Pokémon. She wants to become a Gym Leader when she grows up. She is Lance's cousin and the female protagonist of the game.

Prof. Maple
A capable Pokémon Professor, Prof. Maple can show her competance in battle as well. She is an aging woman and has been a Pokémon Professor for most of her lifetime. She was kidnapped as part of Giovanni's evil plot.

The Koyoto Region

This region is located South of Sinnoh. It's a fairly large and sunny region, although some parts are completely covered in snow. A large attraction of the region are the Tri-Islands - three small identical islands, forming a triange. Many mysteries and strange things are occuring in the region. There is also an ancient tale of a legendary city that had been lost for centuries - under the sea. Is this legend true? Or simply just myth...

As of now, there's no demo. It's set to be out before Christmas time, but it depends on how fast work goes.

Fot the next question.. Yes/no. I've actually been thinking a lot about that lately. It's very hard ripping DP graphics all the time when you need a new town. The game's definitely going to have a DP region map, textbox and maybe everything else, but I'm not sure if we'll keep the overworld tiles, like Pokemon Gale's. I'm going to add a poll on the forums and then decide if we're using D/P or FR/LG.

Just download it and play. You will probably need a free trial/copy of RPG Maker XP.

No, you do not need a copy of RPGXP. All you need to do is compile it as a .exe file, by going into the menu, and clicking the option "Compress Game Data".

So, I have some time to give you some news.. well, we have mapped up to Berrywood Town, so that leaves us with two more cities for the demo. There will be around 15 brand new Pokemon exclusive to Koyoto available in the demo! As well as 20 previous Pokemon.
My computer has been acting strangely lately, so I can't seem to be able to edit the first post of the thread, so I can't show you the big Pokedex change..
And also, the *hopefully* final release date is 29th February, not 13th February. But the more time we spend on it, the better. Right?!

That's it for now folks, might give you more news if I have time later on. But for now, seeya.

Well some of the pokemon like laytone and smudgel should be evos of different pokemon(smeargle and chatot).
You seem to have a lot of custom pokes also.

The Pokedex will be properly updated later, with all the type icons and stuff. And I'll be releasing some more screenshots real soon!

If anyone has any Fakemon ideas, I prefer if they're posted at my forum, with all of the other Pokemon concepts. It makes it easier for me to see which ones are good and which ones are not so good.

Yeah, it is big. It should be about Tadgill size if possible. And when you're making it smaller, try making it face left a bit more, it's kind of facing the front but looking left. Good attempt, just keep trying!

I think it's time to give you some more information on the demo. It has around 20 brand new catchable Koyoto Pokemon and 15 non-Scarlet ones. It will contain 2 towns, three routes, a forest and a city with the first gym. You go around, asking the locals if they have seen anyone suspicous or if they have seen Professor Maple anywhere. You will battle Grant, the Rock type gym leader. But before that, Clair will show up, demanding a battle. She will battle you with the opposite starter that you chose, of course. After you have defeated her, you will go on to battle Grant in hope to defeat him for the Canyon Badge. The demo ends there, but you still get the chance to walk around the places you already visted.

In all, the demo should last for a minimum of 30 minutes. Demo 2 will be a big change, I expect for there to be 3 badges, 3 towns and 3 cities.

I think this is an improvement. I did the same as Wichu, using the Art for Snoweet. The only flaw though, is I'm on my older computer, so I had to do it all in Paint!

Well, things are moving slightly slower than usual lately. But we are slowly getting closer to the demo! I want EVERYTHING to be perfect for this demo as I want it to be one of the greatest, and also because it may well be the last one I make. Yes, I plan to retire from making this game after the demo is released. I'm just finding it difficult with all of the stuff that's going on in my own life. Don't worry though, I'll make sure it gets handed over to someone who I know will do an even better job with it than me ;)

I plan to release another update with a load of screenshots when this thread has around 200 replies. But in the meantime, you might enjoy the new and better Cardi :)

I voted on "It's looking great". The screenshots are pretty good, and I especially love the look of the PokéDex. I see that you've done quite some good work with your fakemon too. How long did that take you?

Now, coming to the only part which I didn't like: The story. I mean, it's not bad, but it's pretty generic for the most part. See:

Today is your 13th birthday. To celebrate, you're getting your very own Pokémon. Your Mom wakes you up, and you visit Prof. Maple to receive your starter Pokémon.
The Professor doesn't seem to be at the lab, but one of the assistants gives you your Pokémon instead. What? How come the assistant knows nothing about the professor missing and doesn't tell you something about it? You get to choose between 3 new starters. You also receive your Pokédex.
After getting your things, you go back home. You start talking to your Mom.
All of a sudden, the TV starts flashing. A reporter says that Prof. Maple has just been kidnapped... by a man named Giovanni. You're going to have to rescue him before it's too late! Liek, wut? You're a 13-year old kid and you have to chase a leader of an organization down? And if those news reporters have enough information and know that a guy named Giovanni has kidnapped him, why don't they just leave it to the cops?
After chasing him who? The professor? across Koyoto, you learn that he once again, who? has fled to a strange place called Johto. You chase him down to try to bring him to justice but to do so you have to infiltrate his organization. Eh? Generic much?

That aside, the game looks pretty good. Just try to make your story more realistic.

Thanks. I was thinking of maybe handing the game over to you, but do you think you'd be up to it? You'd need to continue the storyline exactly as I have it, and it may continue into a sequel or maybe even two. Also, I've asked Sprite Killer if she'd like to have a go at it, and she's currently trying out RMXP and Pokemon Essentials. Do you think you guys could work out a way to work with each other?

This part of the story has been changed. You now get your starter Pokemon first, and THEN the professor is kidnapped.

You are not alone in the quest of finding Giovanni. You go along with your 12 year old cousin, Clair, who is also from the games. Basically you start off by talking to locals and seeing if they have any information about Professor Maple.

No, Giovanni. Unless Prof. Maple has had a sex change that I haven't heard of :p

Well, what do you call the story in all of the other games? A 10 year old setting off alone an a dangerous journey to become a Pokemon Master isn't very original either.. I think Lance and Clair know what they're doing.

Instead, make some assistant come running into your house telling you that people with _____ colored clothes came into the lab and kidnapped the professor. You go to complain to somebody with a higher authority, but they don't believe you and think you're playing some kind of prank on them. So with that, you leave for your adventure to get the professor back.

There, you have a valid reason for the player running after the professor rather than somebody else who's a lot more experienced than he is. That's just a sketch though, so you'll need to improvise on it.

I think that sounds like a good idea. I've asked Sprite Killer, and she seems up to it. You'll need to give me time to figure out things like what details I should give you, the storyline etc.

I think it's time to let you in on more of the storyline. If you don't want a big part of the game spoiled, don't click the spoiler.

After finally encoutering Giovanni at Team Rocket Headquarters, he challenges you to a battle. After you win, he will tell you that Professor Maple was kidnapped because they knew she had information on the legendary Pokémon Atlantia, who is said to be resting in a lost civilization deep under the sea. He refuses to give back Professor Maple as she is the only one who knows the whereabouts of Atlantia. She says the only way to locate Atlantia is to find the lost city where Atlantia rests, and that you need a certain item for this city to appear. But even she doesn't know what this item is. She also says if they find Atlantia, it will only cause chaos and destruction, as Atlantia has the power to destroy the whole region, as it did with the lost city. You're going to have to get this item and make sure Atlantia stays asleep, before Team Rocket does and before they destroy the whole region and everyone living in it!

Well, if it is a hack, then I can't really help you, I don't know anything about hacks. If you're using RMXP, then you should ask Lorem Ipsum. I don't have the light type in the actual game yet as there aren't going to be any light types in the demo.
