it would be cool if there was a faraway island that had a huge coloseum on it. and you could only compete in the turnament if you have all gym badges, won all the pokemon leagues, got all of the fronteir symbols, won a certain amount of matches at mount battle and won other major tournaments such a the whirl cup. preliminary rounds could be used to get to the final 64 competitor or it could just be first come first served. (if you apply late you might not get in)
the winner could be given the title of the "worlds greatest trainer", until the next one a month later...
you could also do the same with a contest theme.
wt do you think of my idea????
oh and rhuan, i know this battle system is going to take a long time and a lot of work but as you say it is going to be far superior than the origional, besides i think it is the most important part of the game.
EDIT: it would be better to use platinum mive sets as they have a few moves added on and are better than the dp movesets. you can get the movesets and see the added moves through this link http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/946308/54120

yer but i meant an island faraway, where you can only be accepted if you have won every other pokemon competion and tournament, then it would be for the title of worlds greatest trainer. part of the criteria to getting onto this island could be winning in all of those colleseums, if they are in the game that is.

pretty sure orre is in, so those will be in too.
and we've discussed "worlds best trainer" before.

Wow, I'm speechless, the mapping is great, you have pure talents there, and I am just thrilled about this game so much. And speaking of maps, I understand how this game is taking a very long time to complete, because of the complex maps, you want people to experience that it really is a big world out there. Keep up the good work. :)

or possibly both?

legendaries will be available through special events, but we dnot' know what yet
zirico
February 10th, 2009, 07:08 PM
i dont think legendaries should be allowed to compete in tournaments with other players online as this makes it unfair ad easier to get high level pokemon.
also, will CA be able to change the maps during the game, like adding decoration to villages and towns on the day of a tournament or festival. or if a task is completed and the map is changed.
Captain Arcane

Legendaries will be obtainable through special side-quests in the game. Each Legendary Pokémon has their own special event that ties in with the anime, and the games. But, be warned! In Pokémon the Lost World, Legendary Pokémon are key figures that balance the flow of nature. And they don't obey just anyone!
More on this will be revealed within in time. But for now, you'll just have to wait and see.

That depends upon two things:
1. are you taking about the sub-legendaries (regies legendary birds, ...) or uber legendaries (groudon, kyogre,...)
2. What the team decides

I think we can allow for some Legendary-allowed tournaments, although in the larger tournaments, they may be banned. ( World Cup styled tournament, ect )

I'm slightly bored, I'm going to spend the next hour or so making something to prove that I'm a good scripter in case anyone has any doubts, note the time stamp on this post, the scripting is about to commence, no prior work will be used. (note I'm not about to make something that will actually be used in pokemon the lost world, just something to show the kind of work I will be doing for pokemon the lost world)
(timestamp: 14:38 GMT as I can't do a new post, so this was 1 hour and 17 minutes with some distractions)
And here we go, have fun: www.spheredev.org/~rhuan/sphere_fun_stuff.zip
I've included the window style colours demo in the package as well as the new demo called "fun" it's a very simple (read : rather pathetic) battle system, enjoy. (note, it is most likely that none of this code will be used in pokemon the lost world (mainly as it's rather pathetic), you can nick some of it if you want to, but don't try and claim it's yours, and to be honest it is not particularly good, I haven't even bothered making it particularly tidy this time)
(I know it's not particularly nice looking, I didn't put much effort in to making stuff line up properly, as I was rushing, so text goes off the edge of the screen graphics are all either sphere's default windowstyle and font or rectangles of solid colour, I was really just proving that I can make a battle system I guess, not that I can make a good one)
(If you want more random sphere tech demos, or maybe one of these two to be improved, make comments on these...)
(there's a very simple strategy on "fun" that will make you win every time.... Just keep using "Attack", if you do either of the other two moves much you probably lose, there are lots of random numbers involved)

Awesome, even though, like you said, that it is not particularly nice looking, the fact is that you built an actuall battle system in about an hour. I'm not sure if most people will see the significance of what this really is, even though this will not be used in the game.
But the point is (like you stated), the point is to show people that you've got the skill.
Awesome work Rhuan,

I had a free hour, so I thought, hmm, what can I do in an hour, lets make something... A battle system was the first thing that came to mind, I had some distractions, and I slightly overran the hour, so I gave up on making it look nice, and it's a bad system anyway. Fierce Attack and Defend are stupid moves. You have around 90% chance of winning if you do attack every time.
Anyway, if you want more random demos, or improvements to the two I've given out so far, comment on these two.
I'm suddenly worrying that this is taking things slightly off topic as while this is demonstrating the kind of things I'll do for pokemon the lost world, none of it will actually be used.

because by default the newest mail goes at the top and anybody that sent you an application a long time ago will be answered last and anyone that just applied would get in first.
sorry if this sounds rude
also how much on a scale of 1-10 are you sticking to the anime compared to the game

You know, I was going to send out all the responses to each application this week. But seeing how you can't seem to be patient enough, or understanding enough of our situation, I may reconsider.
But I wont do that, because it's not fair to punish a group of people over the actions of one person. But you need to realize how busy my team and I are. We're not wasting time, we're working very hard. And when we get comments like that, it really makes me sad , not to mention angry.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the "2nd" time you've pestered us about your application, and I will say this, and you would do best to take note of it:
People who have sent in applications should be carefull of their actions. We take note of how people act on this thread, and we remember them. Anyone who has sent in an application would be wise to be on their best behavior.
And one last thing mini poliwag:
I'm not looking for an apology, I'm looking for your understanding. And to me, it seems as though you do not udnerstand at all.

secondly i know that was a bit impatient but i sent in an application a long time ago as well for a different job and that was about around november and that one never got replied to either. i dont even care if i dont get the job, this game is going to be brilliant and im hardly going to change that. all i want is to know where i stand in this, and ive got my own game to get on with anyway. good luck to all the team, i will not post for a while, ill just read.
i dont usually get impatient, im very calm when it comes to these things, i give people that work on my game as much time as they like to finish thier job, its just that this game is so amazing, and it would be so exiting to be part of the production that i got incredibly impatient for the first time.
i just got the impression in the reply to my last compliant that you where checking them regually and that there was just so many of them to answer that you couldnt get through them all. but just now you said that you were going to do them all in one bunch so that makes me feel much better. i understand what i said was wrong and dont expect to get hired now after it. but i vastly underestimated how much work you had to do. i wasnt in the right state of mind when i posted. so i am asking you please to reconsider it.

the subject for the last few days has been mostly chit chat, so I thought of something: how will the changes from red/blue/yellow to gold/silver/crystal be incorporated? the changes supposedly happened over a three year period, but such a preiod of time most likely wouldn't happen, so how, or even will, they be incorporated?

But, I wouldn't be to surprised to see some things make a return, like the Kanto Radio Tower or the Kanto Safari zone.
As for the issue of the major changes to the Official games, like the Viridian forest, this is where we fall back on to the anime rather than the games. We aren't attempting to emulate either the games or the anime, but take what we want from both and also include our own ideas. If you get to legalistic about this sort of thing, you'd be Nintendo.

Pika Storm
February 20th, 2009, 02:14 AM
yeah, ur probably right, nintendo didn't do their best work when they made those changes. The only way I think it would be possible to do that would be that when the player goes to jhoto, something happens (probably cinnabar island erupring) to stop the player from returning to kanto from any direction until the player has gone through the jhoto plot, and by that time, the changes would have happened to kanto.
the ash from the eruption of cinnabar island would fly over viridian forrest and kill most of the plants. some ash also flies over the safari zone, destroying the ecosystem therefore putting it under renovations and the few pokemon left from the safari zone escaped to various areas. The legendary birds had already left before to go to the orange islands. had to make a subway to get to the area because the volcano shifted the land.
stuff like that.

You guys are truly doing something amazing and i wish you Captain Arcanine and your team the best of luck with this. Not only is it excellent with the feel of the games, but it does have a realistic feel to it as well, one that reminds me of the anime. The maps and all of your work is just breathtaking. Keep at it! Alright cool, that's just what it sounded like on the drawing board, I just had to ask beacuse that would make using Snorlax against Ninjask or something fast like that really suck because they'd get in like 5 attacks for every one of yours (and Speed Boost would make Ninjask the meanest pokemon ever).
scienceboy

thats another reason to highten your pokemons level
also to increase speed by using items and getting faster pokemon to take with you and to get tactical with what moves you use
this will also put a much more trivial matter to which starter u pick. do u want speed over power ect.

See, but you're only focusing on only one aspect. Everything is getting "upgraded." A strong offense is a good defense, just because a Pokémon can attack you fast, that doesn't mean it will win. Now of course, their will be more things that can play into "who can attack first" but overall, speed will determine if you will attack first or not. It's as simple as that.
Rhuan
February 22nd, 2009, 12:57 PM
Using speed to charge a bar to attack will result in a faster pokemon getting more attacks, to make up for this, perhaps we'll have to make high strength have more of an effect.
zirico
February 22nd, 2009, 01:49 PM
why not give attacks drasticly different speeds. special attacks that do damage could be relativly slow attacks
also stronger and higher leveled pokemon could have higher endurance and the speed bar would last longer

but some exceptions will be made most probably
i mean if things that are really strong like slash or something similar, it wouldn't make sense to be slow

February 23rd, 2009, 05:16 PM
Why not also take into account the Pokémon's weight and height? It has played only a minor part in previous games, and could be something well worth looking into.
Perhaps something like... the bigger and heavy a pokemon is, the more powerful it's attack will be, however it wont attack often, but a small agile pokémon's attack will be not very powerful but may be able to have 2 attacks in place of the heavy pokémon's one turn.

yes i mean attacks like flamethrower and icebeam that are powerfull attacks and common tm's. these could be slower than attacks that can only be learned.
also can the pokemon have more moves in there movesets and therefore spreading the tm's out over all the regions would not be a problem as they would already have good movesets.

ya, i think weight and height should be taken into account during battles.
Cause a snorlax vs a rattata has to have its advantages lol.
KlassicXL
February 23rd, 2009, 09:56 PM
The weight is sort of taken into consideration due to most of the heavyset Pokemon having their turn being last and their attacks usually are more powerful. I agree with the having more than one attack in one turn, I mean if they can do it in the show why not in the game?
This might not seem like a good idea to some, but in the show when they're hurt by an attack powerful enough to knock them down, then the opposing Pokemon usually attacks again. So why not if a Pokemon is below a certain amount of health that it's speed would lower as well or something close to that?
scienceboy
February 23rd, 2009, 10:09 PM
well, then you HAVE to put in the dramatic 'PIKACHU! GET UP!!', or something like that. most of the time when they're knocked down and have trouble getting up, they are given time to get back up.
however, as health decreases, past a certain amount speed should decrease, because he's getting battered and worn out. it does make sense.
KlassicXL
February 23rd, 2009, 11:24 PM
Well who knows. It sounds kind of corny, but now that you mention it, morale has to do a lot with everyday situations and even in real life fighting and actual war. This is especially true in Pokemon battles, so maybe a morale bar? I know certain games such as RTS genres have morale play a major role on how your unit completes an objective whether it make it harder for you to win or lose.

Maybe there should be a possibility to train certain aspects of the Pokémon (speed, defense, attack) other than training. Like mini-games. You would put a lot of time in it, but your Pokémon could become very strong...

I'm missing the topic of the century.
I actually have a great idea :D
How about we just drop Pokemon, and name this game just "The Lost World" :D
Because our ideas are straying further and further from the staples that make it a Pokemon game by the minute :D
[/sarcasm]
In all seriousness...
Really now... Individual Attack Speed? Morale bars? Even MORE Variables?
Whatever happened to just press "Attack," choose your attack, and attack. -_-;
If this were to happen, what would be even Pokemon left about these battles? :\

You can't make the anime into a game, no matter how you look at it or try it.
A game and a tv show follow 2 completely different rules.
Example: In the real world, a fighter jet can't hold 64-99 Missiles, can they? Yet in the Ace Combat games, they do. Why? Because it wouldn't be playable, or at least, enjoyable, if it followed the same rules.

So I'm assuming you want to play the same old game over and over? If you do that's you're problem, don't bring it out on us. I highly doubt the creators of the game want to copy the style of others and these are things that should be taken into account. It makes the game feel more real, otherwise it'd make it to be the same old game we've played for years. Why play this game holding most of the same elements as the originals when we can just play the same old hacked roms? You fail to realize this is a game, not a rom hack, so certain ideas will be taken into consideration. As you can see on the front page, they're taking things from the anime to adapt to the game, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind us using these ideas. Excuse us for attempting to improve and innovate something new.
Also, your example of the jets is something we all know. I don't see why you brought it up as it has nothing to do with this. Those are games based on reality, these are games based on fiction. I don't think it would hurt to twist the fiction a bit more.

...Wow. I have to say that I'm very impressed as to where this game is going. This is promising to be the best Pokemon game I've ever heard of. Keep up the good work!
One thing I hated about the Pokemon games is that when I saw the anime, there was provision for training pokemon outside of batter (aka right before a tournament, you saw all the trainers doing last minute training, etc), but its never been incorperated into the game. One source game you might want to look at for ideas on how this could work is Monster Rancher. Although that was pretty much how you trained your monsters there, it's an idea that could be incorperated.
Also, I am very happy that it's basically a seperate game, not a rom. I say this because of the file size limitations on roms and .ds files. This is the main reason why I didn't really get into hacking, on account that I couldn't get all the regions in one game. Seriously, good work. I'll send in an application to help out if I can.

Thank you, so much everyone. I cannot tell you how much I love all this criticism, and please keep it coming.
Alright, time to address a few things, and give a little insight on things.
First off, I ran across a post about respect. Now, respect is something that goes around and comes around. When I had first posted this thread (over a year ago), I asked people to respect the staff members, but I have hence changed that. Respect is not a right, it is something that is earned. And this goes both ways, and everyone needs to be respectful to each other, and their feelings. So with that in mind, lets all be mature about this, and be nice to one another. I don't want to get stuck in another crossfire between opposing PokéFan Tribes. So once again, lets all keep our cool, and our manners close by our keyboards.
Now, I have to say, I absolutely love all the criticism about the battle system, and how you are all proposing your own ideas, and thoughts about it. And like mentioned by a few people, this is not supposed to be a "remake", it's supposed to be a creation. We don't want the battle system to be exactly the same, because that would be incredibly dull compared to the rest of the new features that will be implemented within the game. But we also do not want to stray to far from the campsite, if you know what I mean, because if we do, we will only end up getting lost. Also, do not forget, the battle system is a key feature of the game, it is my top priority to make sure that this feature will give the player to abilty to control, and command their Pokémon in new, and amazing ways that will lead to more enjoyable battles, and greater satisfaction.
Now, there are many more concepts and elements that I and a few team members have been discussing. Hopefully within the next few weeks, we will have the system ready for creation, and at which point I will explain some of it's advancements.
Now, self training is a fragile element, and for it to be incorporated will require a lot of work. Not that we are not already doing a lot of work, but what I mean is that this one feature could completely offset the balance of the game if not handled properly. Like I said, we are exploring the possibilities of this feature, and we will continue to do so. But the future of this particular element if very foggy to say the least.
I think that is about it for now, I'll be online this entire weekend, including Monday. And I'm sorry for not being active the past few days, exams are coming up in school, and I got three projects to create. But do not worry, despite my busy schedual, I'm trying my best to fit in as much work-time as possible.
Thank you all for your great criticism, it only makes the frame of this game stronger.
Sincerely,
Captain Arcane

Pika Storm

no, they mean the evolution of the species as a whole, like on the galapagos islands, there are tropical penguins, giant tortises, and carnivorous finches, and most of the species there have different coloring, if you want to know all the details go to a search engine and type in types of evolution
aerowolf

I agree with Pika on this issue. One example they gave in the anime on the evolution topic was the island where all the Pokemon were pink because of the berries they ate. Another example is the crystal Onix in the Johto series, who also lived in a lake. The Pokemon variation designer would create variations like these examples, and invent/create decent reasons for the changes. The Crystal Onix, for example, could be explained by being super-heated from digging too far underground, or even just too close to a volcano and getting hit by magma, (perhaps he was trying to become a steelix?) then cooled by digging into the lake accidentally...making crystal. Things like that would probably be in the job description.

The game is made in Sphere, which is available cross platform already (minus the editor) however to correctly port this to a psp or NDS or other portable devices would require significant changes to the engine which quite frankly will never be made, as it would be easier to start from scratch.
Please remember that Sphere is 12 years old, so some newer software may have made porting easier but this project definitely wasn't intended to be portable.

While I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing this could be put on a DS or like things, there are issues that will vastly complicate that.
Firstly, as others have mentioned, is formatting. It would need to be converted into a format that a DS can recognize. I don't know whether Sphere could be recognized on the DS, but, from what I gather from the other posts, I doubt it without much work and many changes.
Secondly, and probably most important, is filesize. A .ds file (the usual format for ds games) has a filesize limit, and thus limits the features that can be put on it (I have been yelled at a few times for my idea on a hack because of this issue). I've come to realize that this is the reason that nintendo does not have more than 4 moves on a pokemon at a time, why they don't put in more than one region at a time, and many other things. Simply, with all the memory they have to have with 493 pokemon, two gender versions, and shinies of both of those, then you add up all the data that comes from creating routes, trainers, etc, everything that comes with creating a region, and you can see how quickly the storage available is eaten up.
Unfortunatelly, I'm not super-familiar with the .ds file format, what the actual size is, or what it can do, but what I do know is that if this game was ported to the ds or other mobile device, a lot of features would have to be nixed...and/or graphics would suffer as well. I hope this answers your question.

Well the ds roms can support a different mixture of sizes I believe, a lot of the standard RPG games for it are the 128mb roms. And that just wouldn't simply be enough space for the size of this game.
Another problem would be the differences in APIs between the systems. I mean, look at RMXP it is windows only I believe, at least with Sphere you can get Linux and Mac users as well, so be thankful :P
It's not thegame that would need to be ported to the consoles, it's the engine, and as Rhuan stated it would require too much work to be done.
You'd do best to go into trying and creating homebrew roms, you'd be able to make your own before a SphereDS is ever released :P

okay this is a dumb question but when can we probably expect to play it? i dont mean that is it done by the end of the month or so, but i wanted to ask that what do guys(the owners and staff of the lost world) think where will you be with it by the start of summer?
not to be mean, I in no way intend to be so, but the game probably won't be ready enough to make a rough estimate for a few more years

To be very honest, a release date is all down to how quickly the whole team gets their respective parts done. I believe that Rhuan could see his scripting stuff done within a few months as he is quite the proficient scripter. Now the maps and the other graphic side of things are what will hold the project up.
I could honestly see a release possibility before the end of the year if the team works very hard, however taking into consideration people have lives to lead in between this, this time next year is quite a good guess - but then again the summer will be here soon and work could go much quicker then.

Also, the music department isn't the fastest thing on earth.
I have a lot of music to do, which as I stated before, can take hours upon hours.
If anything, the music is probably the largest portion of the entire project, both in the workload, as well as actual physical size of the game.

So what program are you using
For my sequencer, I use a trial copy of FL Studio 6. I use Ambiance Reverb Engine for my reverberation. I use Audacity for the final mixing.
But most importantly, my sample libraries, I currently use:
Garritan Personal Orchestra
FlameStudios Guitar Collections 1 & 2
Westgate Studios Acoustic Guitars
Magnus Choir
Soundbrewer Autoharp
Soundbrewer Tin Whistle
Soundbrewer Casio Keyboard
As a little bonus, a preview of libraries to maybe look forward to hearing in the soundtrack one day:
Garritan Jazz & Big Band
Garritan Concert & Marching Band
Garritan World Instruments
Orange Tree Samples Core Bass: Pear
EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra
EastWest Quantum Leap Gypsy
EastWest Quantum Leap Ministry of Rock
EastWest Quantum Leap Silk: Masters of the Silk Road
EastWest Quantum Leap Symphonic Choirs
LA Scoring Strings
Hehe, the above list is just to give you an idea of the kind of sound I want to achieve for this project eventually ^^

I hope this answers your question.
thank you so much!
I now understand why it can't be ported to a PSP or a DS, seeing as they are platforms created for a specific type of game, and how hard it would be to make it a .ds file , but what about an iPod Touch? they run on simplified versions of Mac OS X, not a completely different operating system than any computer. Their memories range from 8-32 gigs, and many things have been ported for the Touch, such as Flash(Adobe has created it, but Apple won't let it get released), Safari, Google Maps , and numerous emulators.
"Official" iTouch apps are coded in Objective C. If a port of sphere could be coded in Objective C, this game might be playable portably (sp?)!

Hey there, I just discovered this project today, and being a big pokemon fan myself, I really love it :)
I also read the very first post by Captain Arcane and had a look at the maps, but there seem to be only 4 listed... Sorry if there's something I didn't know, but well... how come ? Cause this project's been going on for at least a year already and no more than 4 maps ? Plus I saw later posts insinuating that there were more, were they removed ?
Anyway all the best and good luck with the project, really looking forward to playing it, I'm positive this will be the best fan game ever !

If you hack your ipod touch/Iphone (jailbreak) You can run roms but not games, I am not sure if Sphere is in C since I am more experienced in the roms field but if so it is completely possible for a port ^^
Ooh btw the official ones are actually Cocoa and the App Store would not want it since the chance of being sued from nintendo and Game Freak is to high so it would have to be coded for the jailbreak community.

Sphere is written in an ugly bodged up mix of C and C++. The problem with porting it to any other platform is all it's dependencies. There are loads of them and porting them can take hours, seriously, the chance of sphere running on anything other than linux, mac and windows in the foreseeable future is about 0.00000001%.

So Ive been watching this thread for a few days now, reading through the comments looking for all the details of it and well it looks immense and I'm thankful to the development staff for enduring this task.
I just wanted to give my two cents on this magnificent game that is before us.
Firstly Captain Arcane you remind me of myself for one reason, you like to think big (to have something that includes everything, however the difference between us is, you can achieve your goal while I lack the ambition and moreso knowledge to fulfill what i set out to do (I have all the ideas, but cannont turn ideas into reality), So i congratulate you, (And seeing that your only 17) dude you will go along way.
The 4 images that are on the first page are unreal, I love the huge maps, the shout nothing nothing but success at not just me but all those who are like to think outside the box.
Question : On one of the pages of this thread there is an image of Viridian City however the link seems to be broken, If anyone has the image or any others that has been released by Captain Arcane could you please re-upload them as i have yet to see it and would love to.
Anyway im not gonna bug you about release dates / any other of that mumbo jumbo as i can see you get pestered enough. However I am gonna post a few of my many ideas of little things that could add those little touches to them big citys
Shops in General:
In bigger citys there could be several shops in place to make the city more realistic rather than the ol one shop does all. Yes in smaller villages there could be the simple Pokémart. There could even be more than one business in town and a side quest could be help one become the dominate one, (one could be owned by a greedy man and the other (A kind man) the outcome would effect the players game somehow
Medical Locations:
Different Medical items could be bought from your local Pokémart, or a Pharmacy thats potions are that tiny bit more expensive but seem to have a better effect
Pokémon Centres:
Pokemon Centres could be like your picture you posted however maybe i big citys there could be a slighty bigger Centre. In desolate places where there are no Pokemon Centres there could maybe be a medical Guru, A Man/Women that heals travelers.
Bike Shops:
When you get your bike, There could be maybe some sort of customization (not over the top) Just simple things like
Paint respray (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow/Pink/White/Black)
Speed upgrade (10%/20%/30%) speed upgrades for the bike, each becoming available during the games progression
Miscellaneous Upgrades:
Bag Upgrades - Player starts out with simple schoolbag later can get A rucksack to carry more
Map Upgrades - Starts out with map later can invest in GPS
Other - Player Starts with Pager, can later invest in Mobile Phone
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I have many more ideas but would rather not post them publicly in case you have already thought of them and would not like them spoiled and such

I have a question regarding the hoen region: will there be a road system?
In r/s/e, wally says that his parents are waiting outside in their car to take him to venturf town, and you came to little root town in a truck, but then in the routs, there are no roads and the routs would be too small for a truck to drive through anyway unless it was an atv, which is unlikely. Will this be adressed will it be taken out, or will there be roads between cities in this game?

No wonder! This project has a large number of staff members, vast majority of whom have never done anything, and most of whom don't know anything about each other. To make matters worse, our so-called "Captain" consistently refuses to show his face for long periods of time. And if we ever ask about his absence, he just flips out at us, like it's all somehow OUR fault that he completely leaves us in the dark.

I completely agree. It makes no sense to keep this thread going (and our hopes up high) if essentially nothing happens for extremely long periods of time. If you ask me, the last time we got any semblance of an update was when the maps of Viridian City, Route 2, and Route 3 were done. That was also the time of the Orange Islands variants. Since then, the only real "updates" from our "Captain" have been "I'm back! I will promise to answer all of the staff applications, but I will disappear for another three weeks before I do it! And if you ask me what's taking you so long, I will harass you on this thread and report you to PokéCommunity admins!"
I won't discredit the work of Rhuan or Moonshykris, but they have definitely done more than "Captain" could possibly imagine himself doing.

Don't get your hopes up. Arcane has consistently shown that he knows NOTHING about running a game development project, and he won't learn from reading our posts on this thread.
One of the things I never understood is how "Captain" is so gung-ho about good grammar, but his posts are full of grammar mistakes. This is from the first post...
This game is not a hack it is a game. The fact that this game is in no way altering a rom of any official Pokémon game deems this as a game. There is a difference, and it would be in your best interest to address this as a game, not a hack. Unwillingness to do so may result in unwanted, and unnecessary arguments. Thus, it is requested that you please do not call this a “hack,” but a “game” instead. Thank you.The first sentence is a run-on. "ROM" is an acronym that should be in all caps. Unnecessary comma after "unwanted." I'm not sure to what extent "unwillingness" can be classified as a word.
Legendaries will be obtainable through special side-quests in the game. Each Legendary Pokémon has their own special event that ties in with the anime, and the games. But, be warned! In Pokémon the Lost World, Legendary Pokémon are key figures that balance the flow of nature. And they don't obey just anyone!Don't get me started. Have you heard of pronoun-antecedent agreement?
But that's the past, and it's now the weekend; tiem to answer some questions. This is not a gallery for the game, this is a discussion thread.Comma splice?
Why should we worry so much about proofreading our applications if you can't even proofread your own posts in the thread?

He's frikin doing this for fun. You guys don't need to take this so seriously.
He probably has important things to take care of in his real life.
Especially with his constant migraines. He probably has a bunch of doctors appointments to go to and stuff. Just back off and let him live his life.
Blazers, if you have a problem with it, quit. We don't need to hear you complaining (no offence)
And InMooseWeTrust, your officially off the team until said otherwise.

My god, alright, I suggest you destroy the forum and make a new one that's private, moose.....just go away, arcane has done nothing but be nice to you (as far as I know) and your acting totally idiotic and childish, I'm starting to think you're doing this to make people.....go to hall of fame! I don't think the game would look as good with the old tiles.

I do hope this is updated soon, this game has some unique ideas. I would be sad to see it die.

1. I'm indifferent to his decision to use Kyledove's tiles. I just don't like Kyledove's tiles, that's all.
2. I'm not sure how you can defend such an accusation. If I was part of the staff for Scarlet or Amethyst, you'd accuse me of trying to only get more attention for them.

i think the use of kyledoves tiles was a good change because the custom tiles probably would have added more time to making the maps (i think), also, i think the Captain will still use some custom tiles in the game.

Wow, talk about character assasination.
Also, I speak to Captain Arcane now and then, and he ALWAYS has something new to show me and he basically spends all his free time to working on the game. He has made so many custom tiles, most of which are way better than my tiles.

I think the problem is, why is Captain Arcane showing you his new work but not his team? Surely they should come first, no? And why request a team if you don't give them stuff to do?
I don't wanna get too deep into this little feud, as it's none of my business. But you guys that are complaining, you chose to join this project. If you don't like the way it is headed, you can choose to leave. Also, if you guys have a staff forum elsewhere, you should keep all internal disputes in there. A phrase about not washing your dirty laundry in public fits here.

could this subject please be changed, this subject will only bring about fighting and infractions. Let us please move on and go back to the subject of if we like Kyledove's tileset changes.
My opinion is that they are very realistic, however, there is one tile that I think could be created to increase the quality of the maps: a transition tile between the sandy shoreline edge and the river shoreline edge. In the Pallet town map, the river that cuts through the town is a riverside tile that is right next to a shoreline tile. You can see what I mean by just looking at the river in pallet town. Besides that I think the tileset change was a good descision

Well this is kinda ontopic but yeah, he shows me his new work because a) we're good friends, b) I help out giving advice and guidance since it is my style.
I'm kinda biased, but I think what Captain Arcane is doing with my tiles is pretty amazing, he doesn't just use them, but completely utilises them and modifies them to look even better. I can't wait to see what he does for the other regions.
I agree with you pikastorm about that transition. I suck at floor tiles haha.

Only a few maps were done, if he's still working, viridian city should be done and that was the only big project out of the maps he had to revamp.
So all of them will be done in the new tile set from now on

There is not, and will not be a beta release of this game, ever.
Also, we are completely unsure of when, and possibly if this game will be finished any time soon, if at all.
Sorry for wording or what, but I just had to state it as it is at the moment.

Well I seriously advise you to be patient at this moment. CA is just at the right age for college application so he may have to spend most of his time on schoolworks. Besides, Atomic Reactor said that CA has migrains to deal with, so health might be another issue for him. Sure he has been inactive for a while, but it's not really that unacceptable considering most of the game developers do need to take a break at some points of their lives. I used to be absent for nearly 3 months during fall 2008, and Shinylugia's Pkmn Ryen was inactive for a few months as well. Now we're both back on track and make significant progresses. I'm sure we will see similar progresses in Pkmn LW after CA returns and start to work on his game again.
Anyway, I must say Pkmn LW is a fabulous game and it's pioneer for many multi-region fan games. I do suggest CA to change his decision and release a couple of betas before the final release. It's gonna take years to complete and your supporters can't wait that long.

My advice would be for those impatient of foes, take a break from Pokémon for a few months, no checking to see if CA posted no checking any updates, Just chill for a few months and when you come back there will be a ton of new gossip for you to deal with, This game could and will take another few years, so a few months hiatus by you and the development team is the best option it gives them time to chill with the moaners and the same questions that get fired at them every post. And nagging folk are a good reason for someone to just cancel a project so just wait of a month or 2

I agree, if people are annoyed that C.A. doesn't have much interaction with the rest of us, then they should either suck it up and not say anything, or could just come back in a few months.

I hpoe not. I hate it when I cant have my pokemon forget flash easily.
Pika Storm
April 4th, 2009, 12:26 AM
maybe some of the hms could be forgotten without help, including flash, I seem to recal that there will be about 16 hms, so that gives room for some creativity for stuff like this
LynnCreed
April 4th, 2009, 01:31 AM
what I'm doing for my game is making HMs automatic, like in Pokemon Ranger where you can just ride on water pokemon big enough to carry you instead of teaching something Surf. You can't use the moves in-battle anymore (except like Goldeen who learns Waterfall by leveling) but you also don't get stuck with moves like Flash or carrying around HM slaves like Bibarel.
Just a thought.
Naroko
April 4th, 2009, 07:13 AM
couldnt flash be changed for a flashlight or something because if there are 16 HM all my pokemons would have at least 3
Pika Storm
April 4th, 2009, 11:49 PM
the pokemon are going to have more than four moves the igher level they get, and moves themselves have levels, so hms could have alot more power than normal, and if a level hundred pokemon that has level ten hm moves, then there would not be much of a disadvantage
