Game Name: Pokémon the Lost World
Software: Sphere
Language: JavaScript
Designer: Captain Arcane

This game is not a hack it is a game. The fact that this game is in no way altering a rom of any official Pokémon game deems this as a game. There is a difference, and it would be in your best interest to address this as a game, not a hack. Unwillingness to do so may result in unwanted, and unnecessary arguments. Thus, it is requested that you please do not call this a “hack,” but a “game” instead. Thank you.

The goal for the team of Pokemon the Lost World is to piece together the scattered world of Pokemon into one world, where there are almost no boundaries, and create a stunning world of imagination and beauty. Not only are we to connect the world of Pokemon, but to connect the players as well. With online capability being possible, we will strive to reach it. The towns are big, the cities are huge, and the routes are perilous. But we are staying true to the franchise. With the exception of new regional and gender variations there are no fake Pokemon. While there will be many secrets in the game that may not be known or true to the Pokemon World, there are some secrets that only few know about and you must overcome life risking obstacles to discover them.

This game represents two things: our love of Pokémon, and our immeasurable gratitude towards Nintendo. Because without whom, our lives would have been different beyond comprehension, and it is them who we strive to amaze. It is Nintendo who has brought us together. And it is Nintendo that we all owe our thanks.

Every single Pokémon fan has envisioned a game like this. But throughout Pokémon’s history, this has been nothing more than a fantasy of a fantasy; something that we all dreamed about, but could never obtain it… but not any more. With the determination, and spirit from the team, and all of our loyal fans, this game gets closer each day to becoming something “more” than a fantasy, an experience.

With the help from the team, and of course the fans of Pokémon the Lost World, we will achieve our goal, and bring to the fans the world of Pokémon, like never before. But we must remember who made this possible, and why we are doing it.

Not only that, but we must realize that this will take time, and much effort. This game is on the brink of impossible, but we are here to take the challenge, and we are also here to win it.

In conclusion, the staff of Pokémon the Lost World, and I, Captain Arcane, please ask for your support, and patience. You are the backbone to this project, because without the fans, Pokémon itself would be nothing.

Thank you Nintendo, and thank you loyal Fans,
Pokémon the Lost World Staff
Captain Arcane

Here is the underlining beginning of the story. Due to the fact that I am reluctant to reveal the complete storyline because of spoilers, this is only a brief description of the character you will play, who they are, main characters, and the beginning of the game.

Brief Description

Beginning in the small rural village of Pallet Town, you grew up there as a child. Pallet Town is also the hometown to your four friends and rivals Ash, Gary, Laura, and Neesha; it is the perfect place for aspiring Pokémon Trainers.

Main Characters Bios

Ash Ketchum: Son to Delia Ketchum, Ash was born and raised in Pallet Town. His immediate rival is Gary Oak. On Kanto's Trainer Initiation Day, he shows up late to recieve his Pokémon from Prof. Oak, and winds up getting a Pikachu, instead of one of the three original starters; Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/7049/ashketchumej4.png

Gary Oak: Grandson to Prof. Oak, and younger brother to Daisy Oak, he is Ash's main rival. His parents died in a car crash when he was young, and has since been cared for by his grandfather. He also receives a different Pokémon other than the prescribed Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle; and is given an Evee by Prof. Oak.
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3928/garyoakjg8.png

Laura Sarabail: Raised by her father, she is an outgoing character, and somewhat of a tomboy at times. She is a noteworthy psychic, which Prof. Oak believes to be a trait from her late mother, and receives a Bulbasuar, one of the three starters given out by Prof. Oak., and her main rival is Neesha.

Neesha Elleborn: Immediate rival to Laura, Neesha is a strong girl, who is loves to turn the tables on her opponents. She lives in Pallet Town with her mother and father. She receives a Squirtle given out by Prof. Oak.

The Beginning
As the screen fades to black, the subtle sound of a car engine can be heard. As the screen begins to fade in, the image of a dashboard, and passing by trees come into view.

After a few seconds…

Cab Driver: “So, headed to Pallet Town are ya’? They get some nice weather I hear. A bit too country for me, if ya’ don’t mind me saying.” Says the friendly cab driver.

Cab Driver: “I hear some professor lives, and conducts research there. He’s a Pokémon researcher I believe; goes by the name of Prof. Oak? A pretty famous guy I hear too, but I wouldn’t know. I’m not to into the whole Pokémon training craze. My son loves ’em though.” Explains the driver.

As you continue to down the dark road, you can begin to see lights far in the distance; it’s Pallet Town.

Cab Driver: “My name is Harris by the way. It’s always nice to be able to talk with my customers. It gets pretty lonely sometimes, even though I see people constantly.” You sit there quietly, just listening to the kind driver.

As the driver takes the small cab through a patch of shadow, you remerge to the pleasant view of Pallet Town.

Cab Driver: “Well, this looks like your stop! It was nice talking with ya’; most people don’t like talking with cab drivers. They act as if we don’t really exist, or something. I don’t know why though, it’s not as if I’m some blabber mouth…”

As the screen fades to black, it reopens to reveal you standing outside a small house, with the shuddering black taxi cab waiting for the signal to depart.

Cab Driver: “It was nice talking with ya’ (insert character name), maybe we’ll see each other again sometime, eh?”

The cab gives a little honk, and slowly drives off screen. You walk into the small house.

-- You’re home.

http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7889/HeaderFeatures.png
This sections hosts the new features that will be incorporated within the game. These features may change at one time or another; depending on the overall review and acceptance it has on the fan base. Also, please note that work within this section is not necessarily complete. This is just of a list of for-sure features that will make its way into the game.

General Features
- All Regions: Kanto, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Orre, Fiore, Almia, and Sinnoh. (listed in order of player progression)
- All 493 Pokémon

PokéDiversity
This feature takes on the role as the real-life “Biodiversity.” This feature will incorporate Pokémon that look different depending on where they are from, and their habitat. This will also affect Pokémon stats as well, and you will also see visual differences between Pokémon of the same species. This feature is being used to add variety to the game, and make your journey as a Pokémon Trainer more meaningful.

Online Capability
From recent discussions, it has come to the attention to some sphere users that online capability is more than possible, but has a catch. Due to the fact that if someone where to play a sphere game online, they would host their own world, from their computer. Which will eventually lead up to immense delay/lag while playing with many people. So, in order to help prevent that, we are contemplating the maximum amount of people that should be allowed in a person’s game. We are not saying that it is impossible to have online capability, but that you will only be able to connect with a certain amount of people/friends at one point in time.

Remember, we are still creating this system, and anything said here could change at any moment, so don’t set this in stone, and don’t take it with a grain of salt. Just keep in mind that this is what seems to be the viable way of doing things, and remember to not over excite yourself for something that could change.

Pokémon Breeding
Pokémon Breeding is a major element in this game, mainly because it allows players to interact more with PokéDiversity. Not only that, breeding Pokémon will have much more elements added to it so that it won’t just be a game of chance, but a system of determining which Pokémon you want to obtain. Also, by making it so that each Pokémon Egg resembles the Pokémon it will hatch into, Pokémon Eggs will become more valuable than ever.

4-8 Moves
When your Pokémon grow stronger, and rise in level, they will attain the right to learn more four moves. Much like in the anime, Pokémon were not limited by the amount of moves they could learn, but more of the trainer’s willingness to help his/her Pokémon grow stronger. Pokémon the Lost World will feature a balanced system were each Pokémon will be able to learn up to 8 moves total, but only by reaching a certain criteria.

Move Levels
This is one of the most surprising, and enjoyable elements that will be offered in Pokémon the Lost World. Each move that a Pokémon can learn will have levels. Each move starts at level 1, and as the trainer builds that particular Pokémon, and uses it in more battle, its moves will rise in strength. So, the more you use particular a move, the stronger it becomes. Each move has a maximum level of 10, but there is more to it than numbers and levels.

Level 1 is below average; and by that, it means in comparison to the official games. All moves that are lower than level 5 are below their average strength when compared to the original games, and any level above 5 (6-10) is above average. So, once one of your Pokémon knows a move that is at level 5, it has the same strength and power as it would have in the official games.

The level of a Pokémon’s move affects it’s power, power points, and effective ness, and also the kinds of effects it has on the defending Pokémon. And as you Pokémon’s moves become stronger, it will have adverse affects on the battlefield.

Also, Hidden Machines, and Technical Machines that can be used outside of battle are greatly affected by this feature. Moves like Surf, Flash, Fly, and Dive will perform differently depending on their level, and you will gain access to more areas by improving their levels.

But gaining levels for moves is no simple task; it requires dedication, effort, and time. This feature then allows people to have more control, and flexibility over their party/team. And depending on how much time each person is willing to spend on their Pokémon, determines their strength much like before; but on a whole different level.

Hotel Rooms
Every player is given a Hotel Room; a place where they can create their own living space and environment that will reflect their personality and life style. Certain towns and cities have hotels, and like previously said, each character receives a basic room.

But as you gain more money you can upgrade your rooms, by purchasing larger sizes. Each room has its own features, and the bigger/better ones you buy, will feature more things, e.g. Pokémon Storage Access, Online Trading Access, Virtual Shopping, and many more.

So by upgrading your own hotel room, you will be able to access more things, and be able to do many more things. But upgrading is not cheap, and some upgrades require more things than just money. It doesn’t matter which city you are in; any city/town that has a hotel can be used to visit your own room.

Another great aspect of Hotel Rooms is that they are almost completely customizable. When you visit cities and towns, you can stop by at their local furniture stores and see what they have to offer. And each city/town, (if they have a furniture store) sells different things than each other. Of course there are general styles of furniture that can be bought at almost any city/town, but there are also rare styles, and furniture sets to obtain. But it is up to the player to choose which style they prefer that symbolizes them.

You will also be able to visit friends Hotel Rooms, and can trade furniture with one another, in order to optimize a virtual community. From wallpaper, to flooring, you can tailor your room to your liking.

Here, concepts that are being worked on are displayed for user, and fan viewing. All work within this section is not considered finished work. Most work stored within this section is specification documents. Anyone wishing to get an idea of the inner workings of the game is welcome to take a look, and see how Pokémon the Lost World will be played.

Battle System
The battle system in Pokémon the Lost World will feature a whole new take on how you will battle against other Pokémon and trainers. We are incorporating many new, and original ideas for the system. One of the main focuses for the battle system is the “Time” factor. Your Pokémon’s speed will have a whole new take on how battling will be performed.

Each Pokemon that participates in a battle has a meter, called the “Time Meter.” When the meter is empty, your Pokémon is allowed to perform a move. But, depending on your Pokémon’s speed, the meter will deplete at a certain speed. So in affect, the higher the speed stat of one of your Pokémon, the faster they will be able to attack.

Which also means that you could attack an opponent more than one time depending on how fast your Pokémon’s speed is compared to the defending Pokémon. This alone allows for more decisive battles, and actually requires the player to pay attention during the battle. This is one of the many features that will truly test your capability as a Pokémon Trainer. Though it is still turn-based, it throws in a wild card type effect that can turn the tables in any battle.

FAQ
Here are some frequently asked questions about Pokémon the Lost World. If you are new to the idea of this game, please read over these questions, they are very helpful.
Q: When will this game be released?
A: When it is finished. Asking this question is also against forum rules and regulations, and any question pertaining to this will result in a report.

Q: Where are you guys, there hasn’t been an update in a long time?
A: We are still here, and we are still working. Updates are not something that should happen every day, or every week even. The game’s progress and thread updates are planned together. It is a big thing to update, and it is not something that should be taken lightly. Thread updates require much planning, and proportional scheduling. Please do not rush us, quality is key, and nothing good will come out of rushing something as delicate as this.

Q: ZOMG, I LUV THIS GAME. U GUYS ARE MY HEROES!!!!
A: Do not do this, it is considered spam. Even though we are delighted at the fact that you are so thrilled about the game, it is no reason to break forum rules. Any posts like this will be reported, and could result in serious consequences.

Those are the three most frequent posts that appear on this thread. Please be sure to not ask such things, as you will be reported for doing so.

Rules
Here are the rules to the thread. Breaking these rules may result in serious consequences, so be sure to read all these rules, and be on your best behavior. Also, please be advised that all official forum rules established by the PokéCommunity are still in affect, and there is absolutely no reason to break said rules.

1. If you are new to this thread, you are required to read over all rules pertaining to this thread before submitting any posts that ask questions pertaining to this game. Anyone that violates any of the rules within here will be reported. There are no warnings in here; if you break the rules, then you break the rules, and you will be reported accordingly.
2. Do not continually ask about features in the game, as it is very tiresome to reply to each and every one. Not only that, it may ruin surprises that have been planned. We are not saying you cannot ask questions, but please be considerate for those who have to answer your questions, and everyone else’s. Remember, you’re not the only one asking questions, so try to keep it to a minimum.
3. Do not start arguments with anyone within this thread. To many instances have occurred were petty disputes between users have escalated into ridiculous fights over something stupid. Causing, or provoking any fight, argument, or flame war will result in immediate action by report, and moderator. Unwillingness to stop fighting will only make matters worse.
4. Do not spam. Even though this rule is covered in the pre-established rules set by the PokéCommunity, we must emphasize that this is rule is of the most importance. Disregarding this rule is highly frowned upon, and we ask you to please follow directions, and avoid spamming.
5. Do not post a message asking to become a member, or showing work, or an application. There are set regulations and steps to becoming a staff member. Inability to follow these rules will result in a report.

Thank you for reading these rules, and we hope (for your sake) that you abide by these rules, and the already set rules of the PokéCommunity.

Thank you for your compliance,
Captain Arcane

Do you want to become a staff member of the Pokemon the Lost World Team? If so ask yourself these questions:
· What position do I want to be in?
· Is the position I desire open for applications?
· Am I good, or do I have the skills to do what I want to do?
· Do I have proof of my skill(s)?
· Will I be able to follow orders, and handle criticism?

If you answered any of those questions with second thoughts, or are not sure; then we suggest that you are not ready, or fit to be a staff member. But, if you answered those questions full heartedly, and truly believe; then you might have what it takes.

http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/28/HeaderStaffPositions.png

Interior Designer
Status: Open
Desire: Very High
Skill Requirements: Excellent Pixel Art Skill
Resource Requirements: Any art creating software; Microsoft Paint, Photo Shop, etc…
Description: This position entails the employer to create custom furniture, edits of pre-made furniture, as well as furniture styles. This position is very important because it works directly with the Hotel Feature of the game. It is these people who will make all the new, and unique styles of furniture that players will be able to collect, and place throughout their rooms. This position also goes hand in hand with the Interior Decorator position.

Interior Decorator
Status: Open
Desire: Very High
Skill Requirements: An artistic eye for designing indoor building layouts.
Resource Requirements: Sphere Editor software, any general art creating software would be recommended for concepts.
Description: This position allows its employer to decorate, and design floor layouts for buildings. This position is in high demand, mainly because of the quantity of buildings that will be featured in this game. People will be instructed on how to create maps in the Sphere Editor, and will work along side Concept Cartographers and Captain Arcane. This position also goes hand in hand with the Interior Designer position.

Concept Cartographer
Status: Open
Desire: Low
Skill Requirements: Definitive art and layout skills, and an understanding of balance and flow within maps.
Resource Requirements: Any general art creating software, or a scanner to scan concepts for discussion and reflection.
Description: This position is incredibly unstable. Because of the assurance of quality that this game insures, countless people have applied for this position, but none have made the cut. This is also the hardest position to fill. Concept Cartographers must understand the balance and flow of maps, and how to correctly distribute objects, and entities, without generating repetition, and predictability within maps. Please not that Concept Cartographers do not create actual maps they create concepts. If at one point someone is hired to this position, and shows impressive skill at it, they may become an actual mapper. But do to the quality that this game insures, it doesn’t seem likely, but would be greatly wanted.

Tile Artist
Status: Open
Desire: Average
Skill Requirements: Definitive skill at creating tiles through pixel art.
Resource Requirements: Any general art creating software
Description: A Tile Artist creates tiles that will be used for maps, e.g. trees, buildings, etc… This position is very hard to fill, due to the quality that this game insures. People wishing to apply for this should be able to take a high amount of criticism, and at the same time, keep a positive attitude. This position has a stop-and-go type feel to it, because at one point, you will be working, and then later, you wont be at all.

Overworld Spriter
Status: Open
Desire: High
Skill Requirements: Definitive skill at creating entities through pixel art.
Resource Requirements: Any general art creating software, Sphere Editor software
Description: This position entitles its employer to be able to produce high quality entities (people, Pokémon, etc…) for use in maps. People who fill this position will need to be able to endure repetitive work, and criticism. They will not only create new overworld sprites, but will also create variants of them as well. Due to the size of this game, repetition in visual eminence is highly frowned upon, and it our desire to create as many visually and pleasing sprites as possible to try and avoid repetition within the Pokémon World. Overworld Spriters will also need the Sphere Editor software to be able to test each individual sprite to insure that it’s quality upholds to set standards, and that each Overworld Spriter can accumulate their work, in order to send it to the project designer; in order to reduce time wasting addition. People who are accepted into this position will be briefed on how, and what to do.

Character Sprite Alterator
Status: Open
Desire: High
Skill Requirements: Adequate skill in editing colors for character sprites
Resource Requirements: Any general art creating software
Description: This position requires the employer to create numerous color edits of any given character sprite, and they will also edit clothes as well.

Custom Character Sprite Designer
Status: Open
Desire: High
Skill Requirements: Definitive skill at creating custom character sprites
Resource Requirements: Any general art creating software
Description: This position requires the employer to create custom models for character sprites, male and female. This is a very hard position to fill because it requires great skill at creating characters that match the style of the game, as well as the rest of the characters as well.

Attire Designers
Status: Open
Desire: Very High
Skill Requirements: Fashion design, Definitive skill at creating custom clothes
Resource Requirements: Any general art creating software
Description: An Attire Designer creates different types of clothing wearable by the players in the game. They will only have to create one model for each clothing piece, because a Character Sprite Alterator will take the role of producing different colors of it. Though, we are not restricting the Attire Designer from doing it themselves, they just can if they want. Though, this position takes a lot of skill to fill, and we lust for anyone with great talent at creating fashionable cloth styles for Pokémon Trainers.

Pokémon Variant Designer
Status: Open
Desire: Average
Skill Requirements: Comprehension of Biodiversity, and the three types of evolution: divergent, convergent, and parallel
Resource Requirements: pen and paper
Description: A Pokemon Variant Designer creates variants of the original 493 Pokémon, by creating realistic reasons for why a specific Pokémon has changed. This feature is known as PokéDiversity. People that understand why Pokémon would change due to their environment, and can create convincing reasons for why they may; we implore you to apply. This is an important position that requires people with the “brains” for it to work well.

Pokémon Information Researcher
Status: Open
Desire: High
Skill Requirements: Comprehension of the Pokémon world, along with the games, and the anime.
Resource Requirements: Self explanatory
Description: Pokémon Information Researchers search for information relating to particular subjects within the Pokémon world, in order to create consistency throughout the game. This position is basically open for anyone, but it probably wont be enjoyable unless “you” want to do this particular task. People within this position will probably spend a good portion of time watching anime, or maybe replaying parts of certain games; depending on whatever the task at hand calls for. Either way, each employer within this position will be given list of websites that offer reliable information on almost any subject pertaining to the Pokémon world.

Agreed. For promotional imagery depicting the creator's original work, it's perfectly fine to save in a not-incredibly-highly-compressed, small-size JPEG.

Resources that are meant to be shared should of course be shared via PNG format.

Dude! You threaded it! Awesome! xD

I remember you talking about this for quite a while, and I'll support you all the way, never give up! This Game looks incredible not to mention better than the other ones >_>

But also, you're promising a lot, so remember to give the public what they want, and what you promised! I'm sure you'll be able to, though. So keep up the good work!

Sory to disapoint you, but this is gonna take a while...(meaning a long time) but at least I have the determination to actually do this.

Thanx, Snowpoint took me forever to do.

Check under features, and click the spoiler for Regional Transportation. But to answer your question, yes, you can travel by foot, fly, and surf. Whatever it takes to make it to your destination.

Dont ask how to play it.
Well This game is on my Games list, Which is rare for me adding games to it.

If this goes good, I can imagine you will be very popular over Pokemon Fans.
I like the online aspect as its like online and offline right?
Will it be like friend codes or ip address? or will you have servers?

*note I love the map, I want it lol....*
Also i have memory of nothing i bearly remember which place is which on the big map lol...

Wow! Smart mapping. Snowpoint looks brilliant, really brilliant. It's one of those perfect scenes.

I worry that the game concept is possibly too large in scale - having so many regions and areas is a really difficult thing to pull off. I don't want to be a pessimist, it's just that not many games seen here reach completion, and this one being so huge is a risk. Good luck to you on that.

However, what I see here is really high quality and anything you produce will likely be an excellent game to play. Seriously, this thing has bags of potential :D

Keep up the good work!

Fantastic! I really want this project to be completed. How about making two versions, with different game makers. Like RPG Maker and Sphere? We could make the one on RPG maker while you continue the one on Sphere. That way if one game dies the other will be there. How about it?

PS I love the City, Trainer Card and Map.

I THINK SUMMINK JUST HIT ME!

I think this might be a good story:
Teams Rocket, Galaxy, Neo Rocket, the Go-Rock Squad, Cipher, Snagem, Magma and Aqua form an inter-region alliance called The Nebula Group. The Pokemon League has advised nearly every trainer to stop it. The Nebula Group members will use every Legendary Pokemon for their own purposes, and each trainer has to intervene them. You are either a curious boy or girl, who plans on becoming the Pokemon Master. You travel through regions catching Pokemon, and you notice the Nebula Group doing their dirty work again. Will you be able to fight off the Pokemon League and catch all Pokemon, stopping the Nebula Group? Or will you be led by rebellious criminals who are part of the Nebula Group?

Play to find out!

Probably the league system will be like this:

Each champion of the main 4 region's E4 will become the E4 for the whole world so far.
I guess it could go like this:
Elite Four Champion Blue
Elite Four Champion Lance
Elite Four Champion Steven
Elite Four Champion Drake
and lastly... Elite Four Champion Cynthia!

And for the Gym Leaders...
I guess it could be like GS... or maybe the Leaders will be grouped by element.

Starters?
You will get one of each kind, except for Orre and Fiore. Or you can even get all starters! It could be:
Kanto Starter: Pikachu
Johto Starter: Mareep
Hoenn Starter: Electrike
Sinnoh Starter: Shinx

And then you'll manage to get all starters just like in Yellow.

So whaddya think of my ideas?

Wow, thanx for the awsome replies everyone. I can't tell you how much encuragement that gives me to continue to make this. Thanx, really, I can't even explain.

That is a pretty nice story line there jonspolder, but I already have a story line that is pretty in-depth, but still, thats a cool story line for a fan game.

Now, last but not least...

I'm sorry, I have not updated this in a while, but I have been work'n very hard, so don't worry. Like the first post says, I'm working on Pallet Town, which by the way is finished, but I can't show it to you until next weekend because there is no way for my computer to connect to the internet at this house (I have 2). So, again, I'm sorry, very sorry, but just wait a little longer, I'm sure that Pallet Town will amaze you just as much as Snowpoint City.

Also (I think I should've mentioned this earlier) I don't make beta's, but I have a select few people that will test certian things. So, don't ask if you can test something, I will personally contact you if I want you to test something.

Sorry, but there is only going to be 1 version. But you are able to have more than one file, so don't worry.

Sorry for any other questions I missed, I'm in a bit of a rush, since school started I have been really busy. Oh, and thanx again for all the inspiration.

I'll be on next weekend.

All I can say is wow wow WOW.

You've really decided to take a big helping. 8 regions? Online play? All the pogeymanz?

I hope to god you are very good with Sphere and know what you are doing.

So how far in are you? Have you even started with the movement engine yet? Pokemon battles? Making the maps?

Because from what I an see all you have is ideas. And ideas are okay but what's AWESOME is when you can actually put these ideas into action!

Well, there not all ideas, I have worked on a great many things for this hack, but most things aren't ready to be shown. But that map of Snowpoint that I posted is actually in the game? I've walked in it, the music plays, but the only thing that I have not done is the aniamtion for the snow, but overall, besides the people, zones, and snow, its complete.

So, yes, I have started with the movement engine, (which is already in sphere), I just got to find out how to make some spritesets move faster than others.

I've obviously started on maps, I have all the icons for the items and some other stuff......!!!!!!!! HOLY, I can't believe I forgot to post that in the begging!! *Hitting self on head* Crap... Okay, expect that weekend update to be bigger becuase I just realized that I have some stuff that I completely forgot about.

Anyway...
... but I haven't made a battle system yet, but I'm going to make it as close as possible to the orriginal game as possible. I look at it in a way of; if a gameboy advance can do all that, so can sphere.

I think of myself very good with sphere, but I know I'm not the best, far from the best, especialy at scripting, but I still manage, and I learn something new about sphere every day.

PS: Sorry for the little bit of spam Arcane but since you're a fellow sphere user I'm sure you don't mind.

Edit #2:
I just realized that you want help with making spritesets move faster or slower. Here ya go:
Movement speed
SetPersonSpeed(name, speed): sets the person's speed.
SetPersonSpeedXY(name, speed_x, speed_y): sets the person's x and y speed individually.
GetPersonSpeedX(name): gets a person's x speed.
GetPersonSpeedY(name): gets a person's y speed.

Oh, if you look closely, you can see the "R" for Team Rocket. Becuase its in jpeg format, the quality is lowered, and for I am sorry, but I do not want people stealing my work. Not to say that you will, but I know that there are many people out there who just steal things as if the worlds gonna end in

Thank you very much. I think that it should be a rule that In a topic now that you put that warning. Anyone else who does that now will be shot by me.

XD, I think shooting them is a litle over the top, lol. I think a bomp on the head will do just fine! XD LoL

Note: I have finished the falling snow on snowpoint city, and I have edited the building on the top right. Hope ya like.

I don't think that I need help on the mapping just yet, or mabye not at all, but you could help on the maps. Send me PM's about your ideas for some maps that I have or have not created, or just tell me about it right here, its your choice.

Actually, I don't think its that semetrical at all, if you look at it you can see how the paths don't make perfect intersections, they are all kind of oddly placed.

Change in plans!!!
I have very good news, and also very bad news. So I think I'll start with the bad news, just to get it over with.

Bad News: It seems my computer does not like me very much, and I think it's about ready to take a huge dump. So there may not be very much updates for a little while longer. But don't fear, all my work is backed up on my brothers computer, and I'm playing it safe. But hopefully, I will be able to reformat my computer this weekend...

Very Good News: I know how long this game is going to take, and I also know that people hate long waits, exspecially for something they want really bad, so guess what?? DEMO!!!!!!! Yep, as soon as my computer gets better, I'm going to try as hard as I can to get a demo out, but don't expect to do a lot of stuff, its just a demo.

But again, I am very sorry for the lack of updates for this and I hope that I can make my computer better very, very soon. Oh, and also, thanx for your suport and motivation, it helps a lot.

Note: If anyone would like to make banners or sigs for Pokemon The Lost World, just post it here, or PM me. I'm also trying to make some, but again, if anyone wants to make one or something, just PM me, or post it here.

wow, you have FANTASTIC tilesets. The gym is good but it doesn't really look challenging. Still I LOVE the tilesets.

Well first off, there are basically no limitations in sphere, for example, one tile can have as many colors as you want, and you can have as much and as many different kinds of tiles in any tileset.

Also, one reason why it doesn't look so challenging is because there are no trainer entities, plus, this is the first gym, its not supposed to be extremely challenging.

Are any TM's programed? Can you tell us the towns and routes that you have done so-far.

Well, I got a quite a bit on my plate right now. But the maps you see are basically finished. But right now I'm working on Kanto's Safari Zone, and I'm remaking Pallet Town.

This game isn't really catching much of my attention you should put some "in-game" screenshots instead of just maps.
Well, the most you can do in game right now is just walking around. And I already have a video of myself walking around in snowpoint city.

Now, I'm trying my best, and I know a lot about sphere, but I'm still learning a lot about it as well.

Most of the time scripting is the hardest part in any game, well not this game. As you can see, these maps are huge, realistic, and they take a whole lot of time, and effort, and on top of all that, I make my own tilesets, which quadruple's the ammount of time. So the most your gonna get is maps, trainer sprites, items, and interfaces for a while, and telling by all the great replies, I'd say people are loving it, and are very content as of now.

Wow, thanx for the compliments everyone. Oh, and here are the answers to your questions pokepal2007

Q:1. on the world map what is that place above johto
A: That would be Orre, and yep, that huge mountain is Mt. Battle

Q:2. on the world map is la rousse the brownish colour dot
A: Well, it may look brown, but its located right above Hoenn, right by Fortree City.

Q:3. on the world map where is orre
A: Orre is right above Johto

Q:4. on the world map where is fiore
A: Fiore is right above Kanto, which is right next to Orre.

Q:5. world map what is the place just below johto and just north east of kanto
A: The place right below Johto is Altomare, the island north east of Kanto is Summer Town from Fiore

Q:6. below islands 1-7 is that thwe orange islands
A: yes, including new island, the place where mewtwo was created.

Q:7. on the game will all the event pokemon be avalible?
A: Yes, every single one, with events that match the anime, and the game combined. For example. When you catch Moltres, Zapdose, and Articuno, there will be a special battle event where you will be fighting them all at the same time, like in Pokemon The Movie 2000.

Hey everyone, I got a question for ya.

For the past few months, I've been thinking of making more variations for the Pokemon. but not just gender, but with regional differences too. Heres an example.
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/6030/pokemonvariationsuo7.png
I really hope you like the idea, cause I would really love to see a lot of difference when you battle other trainers.

Also, more ideas for the variations that could be included:
- Some variations of pokemon could have different, but still similar stats than other variations.
- The same cry, but a little different sounding for some variations.

if you like this idea, and have other ideas that you would like to see with the variations, post it, and it could very likely become a part of the game.

jonsploder
November 10th, 2007, 01:29 AM
GREAT IDEA MAN!!! Well, if you want me to help, I could do the pokemon for you, It will save you some time. Is there a CBS up and running?

Captain Arcane
November 10th, 2007, 01:53 AM
ah, nope, no battle system yet. but sure, I could have some help with the variations. But nothing to different, lke, I don't want to have a butterfree with the arms of a tangela or someth'n. But I'm pretty sure you already know what I'm kinda going for. So do a few, then show'em to me.

jonsploder
November 10th, 2007, 04:20 AM
OK, but first would you like to PM me some pokemon sprites that your using, and if you want to PM me a list to, otherwise I'll do colours I think fit. So I'll do ones like in the graph you demonstrated. 4 diffferent colours, also do you want me to change the entire body colour to make it cooler?

Edit, I whipped this up in 1 minute: Whadda ya think? http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/jonsploder/poke_1.jpg
The one on the left is the new one, the one on the right is the old one.

Captain Arcane
November 10th, 2007, 04:37 AM
Well, I think that the blue contrasts the red to much, so much that it almost seems like a shiny. Also, um,..... I'm gonna leave the starters of each generation for last, just becuase they are so important.

jonsploder
November 10th, 2007, 04:59 AM
Well, OK, but here are some other sheets I did in that minute also:
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/jonsploder/RED.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/jonsploder/shineys.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/jonsploder/invert.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/jonsploder/Highlight.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/jonsploder/blackanwhite.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa55/jonsploder/blured.jpg
In this order they go:
Red
Shiney
Inverted
Highlighted
Black and White
And blured.

What do ya think? As I said, It was a minute, just an example.

Captain Arcane
November 10th, 2007, 05:18 AM
Um, I really don't understand the purpose of you doing that, even though its an example, but an example of what? By variations, you are going to have to actually edit things by pixel, I not going to except an inverted, or blurred images of pokemon. Also, I'm using Diamond and Pearl sprites, not GBA sprites.

Mabye this will help you. Don't see variations as just Pokemon with different colors. See variations as Pokemon that look the same but different at the same time, with mabye one, minor color change. But difference is not just color.

Hope that helps.

When I first saw the thread, I didn't think it would get very far due to the gigantic add-ons. But now that I look at it, it looks like it would get finished (eventually.) I might be able to help you on some of the variations and OW's, I'll start on Sableye as an example.

http://i3.tinypic.com/851fa04.png
Orre's and Fiore's are the same as Hoenn's.
Explanation:
Kanto - Due to the lack of cave structures in Kanto, Sabeleye's eyes seem to close half way to get used to the light.
Orange Islands - Sabeleye once lived in the Crystal Onix Cave, where more ores grew on their bodies.
Johto - The ancient caves of the Unknown some how reversed the colors of Sableye's gems.
Sinnoh - While in Iron Mountain, the Steelix's broken pieces would mend to Sableye, causing extra horns.

Captain Arcane
November 10th, 2007, 09:18 PM
I like most of them, but I don't really like the kanto version. Its...i don't know, its like it doesn't fit. But heres another thing to take in.

When you do variations, you don't have to make a pokemon for every region, you could just make one variation, or two, or three, mabey even four. But this lesson is just that, you don't have to have a variation for evy region, or area.

Wow, that look's great! Like I said, any in-game screenshots?

Well, all those maps I posted are in game, unless you just want to see the character in the center of the screen, they are basically the same. But yeah, I will get some up.

jonsploder
November 10th, 2007, 10:12 PM
Actually, I think that you should worry about spriting later and do the engines like the CBS, leave the sprites to us to post up.

Edit: I included an image, check it and spot the difference.
Edit 2: I screwed the colours, but deleted the little bumps around the head. Again, I screwed it. I'll actually try for the next one.

Okay, I have compiled all the new variations that are complete so far. And I edited some of the Sableyes because some of their points where a little sketchy, and I added a new feature to some of the female Sableyes. Enjoy

NICE! Execpt the onyx are not great. Otherwise its great. I have relised that I am a terrible spriter, lol. Don't expect anything great from me. Otherwise its great, but as I said- I think that you should do the CBS and CMS FIRST, then the pag and PC and the complex things that need doin'.

O.G. Duke
November 11th, 2007, 07:44 AM
Ya, I agreed with jonsploder.
You should have a working CBS and CMS at first^^

Captain Arcane
November 11th, 2007, 07:49 AM
Well, the two Onyx variants are kinda special.

First:
Onyxes that inhabit the mountains of Pallet Town in the anime are said to be huge, and extremely strong, and even Bruno of the Elite Four trains there. So I made the Onyx a little more earthy like, intead of just rock that looks like it was carved out of Fred Flinstones house.

Second:
The Crystal Onyx is from an episode of the 2nd season of the anime in the orange islands. It lives in the crystal caves, and is thought to be a myth to the people of Sunburst Island.

So they both are anime related. But yeah, your opinion is your opinion.

OmegaGroudon (http://www.pkmncommunity.com/member.php?u=37110)
Ya, I agreed with jonsploder.
You should have a working CBS and CMS at first^^
(http://www.pkmncommunity.com/member.php?u=37110)
Well, I'm not the best at scripting, but I'm still learning, Legaia hasn't been on in a while, but I'm not dependent on him. But like I said, I'm still learning many things about java script (which is what sphere runs off of). And yes, all those are very important, but so are other things. I"m just taking it one step at a time.

O.G. Duke
November 11th, 2007, 07:55 AM
But you have to make sure you can script the CMS and CBS things.
If not, you will give up the project because of no CMS and CBS.

I can help in those variation.

Captain Arcane
November 11th, 2007, 08:10 AM
Yes, anyone knows that, but there is nothing wrong with getting some things done first, and I'm not even putting all my time into these varients. I'm working my butt off trying to get a demo out for everyone, but when I want a brake from coding maps and triggers, and when I want to just do sprites, I'll do sprites. And of course I have to be able to script thoses things scripting is 50% of the whole game if not 75%.

hugh....
Just to let everybody know, when I started this, I was pretty shure everyone was gonna think that this was just gonna turn into a 1 week idea, and then I would drop it due to lack of knowledge and determination....well, for those of you who did think that, you were wrong. I know the challenges that I have to overcome to make this happen, but that doesn't deter me, it doesn't make me look the other way and pretend its not there. I face those challenges every day I work on this, but yet I keep going. I do as much as I can to work on this, and if the way I choose to do things for my game doesn't make you happy, oh well, bite the bullet.

Phew..... Okay, now that thats all said and done for.

Yes, that would be perfectly fine, I really liked that Chikorita variation. So by all means, please make more, but thats only if you want to.

although honestly, 493 sprites (excluding the legendary pokemon which i'm too lazy to count up the number), variations for 8 different regions, and genders, even if some are the same, seems like its a heavy burden. maybe you shoudl work on coding the base first, then work on the sprites? or just code and let omega do all the spriting for the pokemon to lessen the workload.

Well first things first.
Right know I'm going threw a lot of personal problems right now, even though I would love to do that, there is no way I would be able to do it because of whats going on....

Second:
Dude Jake, I'm so sorry about forgeting to comment on your variations. They're great, you took that Kekleon variations right out of my head! lol

So, I'm pretty sure that you've seen that purple one on that one episode of pokemon with the blimp. To tell the truth, I'm very impressed, not how good its done, but the "implementing" I should say? Unlike many other variations, you took something that was from the anime, it only appeared once, its almost like a diamond in the ruff. You took that, and implemented it into a variation. Not saying that its hard to do, but just that its exactly what I'm looking for.

For example, the Cyrstal Onyx, it appeared only once, never more. Only shown in the anime, and its an awesome pokemon to be able catch, own, train, and not to mention show off! ^^

I can't really express what I'm trying to say, but you really hit the target with that one. Even though its just a color change, theres a background to it, theres more than meets the eye I should say.

But like I said, great job, really really great.

2 quick question about the world
1 - will it be possible to surf from continent to continent?
2 - for kanto/johto, there is over half of that continent not used. i assume that that is the new region?
1 quick question about something else
usually by the time that i get to the elite four, i have pokemon that are in their lvl 50 range. how are you going to adjust the levels of the other regions? if your lvl 60 by the time that you get to the second region, then everything is going to be wacked, because its not really going to be the same pokemon wise. i'm not going to find a lvl 3 zigzagoon if i'm lvl 60. it would be complete overkill. and if you make it a lvl 60 zigzagoon, you do'nt find those. if make it so that you get a completely new pokemon team, then what is really the point of training your old pokemon to super strength? additionally, the legendary pokemon would be power skewed in the later worlds

...

ok, maybe a not so quick question. i hope i made myself clear, otherwise i'll say it again

1.Yes, surfinf from continent from continent is possible, but its very dangerous, and very very time consuming.

2.Um, no, no new regions, I just did that to make it look like a continent.

3. Well, when you catch a pokemon in "lets say" Kanto, and when you get to johto, the game will check to see if you have any pokemon from any previous regions. Then, if its your first time entering a new region, you can still bring all your high level pokemon. BUT, like I said, if its your first time entering Johto, or any other regions, you will only be able to "use" pokemon that are at level 20 or lower, because you haven't defeated the first gym yet. But after you defeat the gym leader, and when the level cap for battle-able pokemon is raised, you can bring in higher level pokemon to fight with. Do ya get it?

well, i get it, however then that seems to say that the power of the previous badges is nullified
and as i said before, it kinda defeats the purpose of powering up ur pokemon if you have to make a new team later.w hile you could keep only the strongest, and make an ultimate team, that wouldn't relaly help because you'd already have everything
do you get a enw starter every time you enter a region?

Well, lets say you went to johto for the first time, obviously you wouldn't be able to use your high level pokemon. But you are still able to bring them there. But you could go back to Kanto or the orange islands and you could use all your pokemon.

And yes, you will get new starters every region. But I don't know what I should give for the Orange Islands, Orre, and Fiore. Any ideas?

I can't say for sure, though I do want them in. But I would definatley say that they are most likely going to be in. Along with IV's and the whole shabang!

Edit: Its funny, before you asked that, I was looking up on EV's and IV's and all that stuff to see whole they worked internaly.

instead of remapping it all, maybe you should scab it from the real stuff?

No, your maps are fine, I think that it will take an age to map it all from scratch, so you should mabe do one region out of previous maps that nintendo made?

That wouldn't be very possible if he wants the game to look real. He's already decided on custom Kanto maps, Johto's will need to be made, if he uses Nintendo's Hoenn, there would be extreme style mixing which would equal bad looking maps, Orre and Fiore have to be made, and Sinnoh's are different style and impossible to rip. So...does that answer your question?

Oh no, jonsploder, to me, thats way out of the question. I will not allow an original map, they are to small, and "way" unrealistic. Plus, it would look really bad if your playing a game with all these big realistic looking towns, and then find a city with only 3 houses, including pokemon center and mart. That would be degrading, top grade crap.
