I'm gonna have to say Gary. Gary was tough, smart, but actually respected his pokemon. SOme of his other rivals liek Masamune/Morrison were a tad ehhh.

No i thought Gary came back, then fought ash after the battle frontier, then went to Sinnoh, and incase thats why Ash went, seems to me their rivalry is still valid, but we havent seen gary much, but i would have to say Gary is the strongest rival.

I liked Gary..But the Rivaverly is basically over becuase Ash has already beaten him so Gary cant act all showeyoffey anymore (Yes I know thats not a word) Becuase if you think about it Gary used to be kind of snobby just like Paul until Ash beat him. But now, I think that Paul is the best rival, Gary used to be cool though.

Definitely Paul.

As much as I loved Gary, he barely showed up at all, and his character got kind of boring after a while. Now, we have Paul, who is not only a total jerk to Ash, but to his pokemon as well. He's badass, and exactly what the show needed, imo. Paul is probably the character I'm interested in most this season, because we're continually learning more about him - yet why he acts the way he does is still a mystery.

Yeah i do agree ash sucks, but the only reason he lost at the pokemon league, was only because he couldn't control his Charizard, if he was able, the match would've gone in ash's favor.

Although nothing from the game applies to the anime (electric attacks beating ground types) Ash must suck really bad if he had all 8 badges and couldn't control Charizard (When you have all 8 all pokemon WILL obey you)

Hmm... Actually Ash still views Gary as his rival, and Gary did win Ash just prior to Sinnoh if I'm not mistaken.
