I have a question.Since DS cartridges are so small, it would be kind of hard to fit a battery in there to store saves.Do you think the saves are saved to the rom itself,or to a tiny little a battery?I want to know cuz i don't want my Diamond game save to disappear.

i thought internal batteries just used to keep the time on the old games but you dont need that on the ds anymore

I dont think the internal batteries were used for storing saved data. I think they were used like that back in the old GBC catridges but for the GBA they only keep track of time. On the ROM when you load up a new game it tells you the game would still work but time based events wont.
I dont think the DS catridges have an internal battery because time is kept track via the DS.
EDIT: Well I suppose their is an internal battery in the DS catridge then. ^___^
EDIT#2: I guess I was right.

The DS cartridge has its own internal battery otherwise you wouldn't be able to play your saves on a different DS. Luckily, the battery memory is revamped and stronger so dont expect it to go out like ypur Pokemon Gold anytime soon.

That's the GBA quick Reset... to do a "factory reset" you hit Select up and B on the title screen.

Ehhh... Stupid answers...
No, there isn't an internal battery in the game card. The save file is kept in a small free storage area located inside the DS card. Kinda like an SD card you put in your camera, there's some free space that allows you to store extra information. The DS keeps track of the time, and there is a little battery inside the DS that will VERY slowly run out. Maybe like in 15 years or so, when they become as old as the original Game Boy. However, that battery is only used for keeping track of time, and won't result in your save file being deleted. And, umm...

Phhhhh... i say it might be even longer then 15 years, and because the DS cart relies on the time in the DS, i say even longer. But why would it even matter to anybody if the battery dies, 15 years is a pretty damn long time, by then you would transfer your pokemon you have now into future games, since thats how the franchise works.

My Red version still works, is that good? So are all my pokemon games. I'm glad I know this now too. I've worked hard on my pearl game, and I'm glad I won't lose my team ever.
