I like both of them. They're all have very good personalities (which I find attractive in both cartoons and real people), and they're voices are pretty. Dawn's, to me, sounds a LOT better in the English dub than the Japanese version. But Misty's my fav.

Actually Blaziken has a type advantage. Fire inflicts normal damage, and fighting inflicts double damage to Empleon. Empoleon also has a type advantage against Blaze but Blaziken gets a net win.

Keep in mind that most double type Pokemon have their advantages, too. Swampert for example, only has weakness and that's grass. Being part ground type, it's resistant to electric attacks.

My vote goes to May. She was the first female protagonist from the games to travel with Ash, and she introduced Contests to the show, which gave us something else to watch besides Gym Battles. Plus, her rivals rocked (and she had a canon shipping with one of those rivals, too ;)) and she had awesome character development. <3

Dawn just doesn't interest me at all. Her whole storyline is just plain boring, imo. I think it'd be better if she wasn't a coordinator, cuz all she has going for her is being more girly than Misty or May, and her pokemon and their awesome personalities. Even her rivals are pretty much boring. :/ Yeah - I don't hate her or anything, but she could definitely be more interesting.

When it comes to estetics, I think Dawn would come first, May's hair was horrible, I wondered why it was short in back and long in the front, even without the bandana... Dawn's hair is better, and girls with skirts make me laugh. When it comes to attitude, I attached myself to May more than anything. Like it was previously said, I would have preferred seeing the girl from Pokemon Leaf Green. I like her appearance better than the two otehrs. And I never really liked Misty, I was so happy to see her replaced by May.

Dawn. May was rather irritating at the start. I don't think Dawn and May are exactly like each other, otherwise I would like them both exactly the same. There is some difference, I'm just not sure. Dawn is more confident in herself and is much more "get up and go" or whatever the saying is. I like May, I just like Dawn more.

I don't understand how May is like Misty though...Misty (in Kanto, before her personality died) was rather tempermental, wouldn't be afraid to argue her point, a bit of a tom-boy and loves water Pokemon. May at the start didn't like Pokemon at all but came to like them. She just kind of liked cute Pokemon, liked shopping and was more girly and could be rather whiney at times. She had character development and became a confident co-ordinator. So I don't know what kind of character development Dawn is going to have.

DP is my favorite era (along with Johto). AG is my least favorite era. And part of what made DP nice was Hikari.

About Hikari's girlyiness, it's girly-ness done right. And I love her skirt, it looks like something from out of Mario (the pleats remind me of flower petals)! And Hikari has very pretty hair.

I'm content now with Hikari and with the show right now. Better animators would be nice though... along with some more Shinji and no Gary.

btw - the only thing I hate about Hikari is IkariShipping. If any Pokemon character goes with Shinji it's Ash. Besides IMO it gets the cutest hints in the show now (Shirona episode).

Ash wasn't dumb - he knew it was a good idea, but he didn't want to use any pokemon from the previous regions, because you know how Ash is all about using his current team no matter what. I don't see how that makes Dawn "smart," because like Me2UJus4Free said, May (heck, anyone probably would have) suggested the same thing to him.

May's not dumb, either - she's 10-years-old, of course she's going to trust him at first. Everyone has trusted someone that they shouldn't have at some point in their lives. Not trusting Harley was a huge part of development for her character as well.

I chose May. I think that most people that hate May only don't like her because she:

1. Was the first on to take Misty's "place" and the sting is still felt.

2. She brought along her little brother, which I guess bothered people even though he didn't do anything and seemed like a newbie for 40 episodes.

3. She was a coordinator, which somehow "took" time away from Ash's Gym Battles.

So they go with Dawn, who they see as less of an usurper to Misty, and a usurper to May. And they get hypnotized by her mini skirt. :laugh:

XD I agree. And besides, Misty, May, and Dawn all wear miniskirts! Not much of a difference if you ask me. If their were wearing pants that be a something interesting to discuss. Anyway I picked May because I she has more experence as a coordinator.



And if she and Dawn were in a pokemon battle right now, May would pwn Dawn ( no offense to Dawn fans ) besides May has a Balbasaur, Squirtle, Eevee, a " wall " of a munchlax, Skitty, Beautifly, and omg Blaziken! Dawn currently has: a Piplup, Buneary, Pachrisu, and a Buizel. Now if some of her pokemon were to evolve that yeah dawn might have a chance but in truth May wins. But despite that I still love Dawn, she is sweet, through she can be annoying at times, you got to love her upbeat personality!

May has a nice variety of Pokemon. And I really love the ones she has. Torchic/Combusken/Blazekin is one of my favorite starters. Skitty is my favorite Pokemon. Eevee is another favorite. Her Munchlax was awesome. Her Beautifly was awesome in contests. I didn't care much for Squirtle and Bulbasaur, but I didn't mind them.

The only Pokemon I like of Dawn's are Pacharisu and Buneary. And I don't really like the fact that she has two water Pokemon. I also don't like how she already has 4 Pokemon.

Her other Pokemon...did nothing. Togepi did nothing until AG except from a few random explosions (lol) Staru/Starmie did nothing and the other was sent away. Or maybe they both were. Oh yeah, I remember. Starmie was really weak in battle and lost EVERY battle it was in. I'm sure. I don't know. Goldeen...did nothing too. She could hardly use a fish on land. Corsola did battle a bit in Master Quest though.

Just look closely. And May's "assets" are slightly more forgiveable then Dawn's miniskirt. Dawn can switch that miniskirt for something else any time she wants, but May's obsessive trait is a part of her body. (Although, I suppose she could stop wearing that bikini she randomly posed in during that one episode...)

May was just as girly as Dawn, she was simply girly in personality as opposed to fashion. I prefer personality. Dawn reminds me of those horribly stereotypic girls you always see in children's television who are like "ZOMG I BROKE A NAIL!"

Same with Dawn's miniskirt. I do think it is a little bit too short (like the um...shot we got in DP039, that was a little too much if you ask me), but girls wear skirts, so why can't she? So what if May doesn't dress up for Contests? I think that's a good thing - especially for (mostly younger) girls watching the show. May's confident enough to go out there and win with just her normal attire, while Dawn is showing that you must dress up and do your hair before you even get on stage. :/ Besides, Sinnoh Contests =/= Hoenn and Kanto Contests, so of course May isn't going to dress up (who knows about Johto Contests). As for Dawn being "prettier" than May, I don't see why that matters (it's your opinion, anyway) - because when it comes down to it, it's the personality of the character, not the looks, though that may be a bonus, especially if you're a guy. If that's the only reason you think Dawn is the better character, then...wow. :/ I don't even like Dawn, but she at least deserves to be liked for something other than her appearance. >>

As for their pokemon teams, May wins again for me. She had a variety of different pokemon, while Dawn doesn't (although I'll admit, the personalities of Dawn's pokemon are way better than May's). Like Haruka Chan already said, she has two water pokemon and four pokemon already in less than 44 episodes. May didn't have her whole Hoenn team, which was 6? pokemon, until the Hoenn GF.

And the thing about Dawn obsessing over her hair - it's not just her hair, it's her appearance in general. She always wants to look good, even for Contests, where it's not even mandatory, but optional to dress up. Examples are in DP009 (when she won't come out of the tent because she doesn't want anybody looking at her), DP019 (with Pachirisu, she kept brushing her hair after it messed it up), and DP029 (when the Sinnoh Now News Crew came, she told them to stop and she redid her hair, when it looked perfectly fine). DP011 and DP026 also show how she gets ready for Contests, and she was freaking out in DP011 when she couldn't get her ponytail right. DP026, she was showing off to Kengo before the Contest even started, because again, she knew that she looked "good." Though this all part of her character, sometimes I think she's a little over the top, especially for a 10-year-old. o_o;

From what I've seen so far Dawn doesn't really seem over the top in girlyness, except from in the first ep where she tried bringing a whole suitcase full of clothes. In the one where she gets her hair messy and uses Piplup's Bubble to make it straght again and when she's worried about her ponytail in the contest...stuff like that seems normal to me. Or maybe she's just kind of acting more like a teenager over her looks. My friends are like that too...or maybe I've forgotten if Dawn really obsesses over that stuff too much. But I don't ever remember thinking that. If you're going onto a big stage you're going to care about how you look and if you're hair's just been frazzled you will too. I'm not saying she's not girly, but the way everyone was going on about her I was expecting her to pull out a mirror every episode.

She doesn't act as girly as Dawn but I think that's round about the age where you start caring a bit about how you look. I'd just like to reiterate that I like Dawn because of her personality, and not the shortness of her skirt. x_x Though I don't mind her outfit either. Just, personally, during the Hoenn region, May would either irk me with how she acted, or just not do anything for me. And Dawn brought some life back into the show. At least, for me anyway.

If we have to compare appearances, I actually like both in different ways. One has a natural cuteness and sweet disposition, while the other shows a more dynamic and overall energetic look. If May didn't irk me in the certain episodes and movies she does, it would probably be a lot closer. But yea, this is a personal thing, as I know Dawn irks a number of you all instead. ^^;

It'll take time to say, as Dawn is still developing as a trainer. In the long run though I think Dawn will be slightly better than May. Dawn has a broader role as a pokemon trainer, while May had one as well, just not a broad.

i prefer dawn. y? cauz she reminds me of, well, me. i always seem 2 obsessing over my appearence. my hair has 2 look perfect, my clothes and shoes have 2 match PERFECTLY, and if my makeup isnt just rite... This is a toughie, Two very hard choices.

With Dawn the things I prefer much more than May is her clothes and her attitude.

Dawn is is a battler and May isn't, I never did really like the whole contest idea with May. May has weird clothes and her voice can get really on my nerves. I still prefer Misty out of the two of them but all in all my vote goes to Dawn.

To me, they're both winy, but Dawn is even more clueless than may was in her beggining stages, but Dawn is clearly gifted, whereas may just had to work super hard, so i think if they were to start at the same time, May would've been a MUCH better coordinator, but as time past, prolly about their 5th competition, Dawn would pull ahead, but i think they're pretty even

May had much better character development early on in the series; we knew she was a klutz, a bit girly, not very experienced and all that: plus she had awesome rivals who assisted her development and her relationship with Ash and Brock was more of a student-teacher one.

Dawn is just...there, I guess. She doesn't have many qualities that help her stand alone as a character. She borrows qualities from May, some from Misty, and even a few from the early Ash as well. That too, she's not really interesting HERSELF, y'know? I mean...Pochama and Buizel are much more interesting than she is...and even they've got more character development than she has.
