View Full Version : Nintendo Wii freeloaders can't be used.

A firmware update for the Nintendo Wii rendered Datel’s Freeloader disc completely useless yesterday. Freeloader lets users play imported games on the GameCube and, until yesterday, the Wii. Following the update, the Freeloader… she is dead. Yup, now gamers who want to play imported GameCube titles on their Wii will have to get one of those warranty-voiding, sure-to-be-made-illegal-everywhere modchips.

Needless to say, Nintendo has no interest in “fixing” its mistake. Since Freeloader is unlicensed software, software that ruins Nintendo’s whole region-specific release racket, the company can’t be bothered to remedy the situation.

Note people can't use freeloaders for pirates, only imports, it does not affect the US as much cause you guys get games after Japna, but england is once again is screwed.

I was planning on getting a Wii and some imported games, but now my chance is gone.

Meh, it'll still wok on the GC so w/e. I never used mine on the Wii lol. I was hoping for a freeloaer for the Wii, but looking at this I doubt it'll happen.

You can't play GC games if they are from another country.

It was funny when I typed it.

Can you still use it on a GC if you've used it on a Wii after the update, or does the update break the disc?

Well....it sucks, but I see no reason for Nintendo to fix the problem. Unsupported software. I'd put the responsibility on Datel to support their product and customers and fix the problem via new version. And...issue compensation to those who bought the original.

Or, they could go a whole different route. Something upgradable via your computer would be nice.

Yeah, I wouldn't whine about Nintendo doing this. :\ Like Triffy said, they don't support imports so if the current way to play imports is incompatible, they can't be held responsible. I'm sure a new way aside from modchipping will be found eventually. o.o

I think they should use a rewritable disc. Or...an SD card, but have the disc read it or something.

Cool. Hopefully the Action Replay dies next. Stupid wi-fi killing cheat devices.

Too bad about the imported games though. Guess now us Americans will have to wait our turns :P.

Damn it... We Europeans are always the most mistrated :( I have had to buy a modchip because it sucks to have to wait for some games almost four months after they are released in the US...

Oh yeah we europeans are expected to buy all region consoles if we dont want to wait an incredibly long time for titles
