Mathematics and God

Posted November 27th, 2011 at 12:29 AM by AdvancedK47

You cannot see either
You cannot hear either
You cannot smell either
You cannot feel either
And you sure as heck can't taste them either

But only one actually helps mankind

There is a reason why the Bible doesn't say "And God said 'Let there be Math'", because no matter what perceivable universe God could have created, Mathematics would have remained true. One plus One would still be two. And as long as any intelligent being is aware of that fact, they will develop Algebra and Calculus some day. And when they need it in Physics and Engineering, or encounter it by accident, they will develop Abstract Algebra and Analysis.

Their language will be different. Their religion would be too. Their history might be different. Their social studies as well. But no matter how they may represent math, it will be the same concept: One plus one is two and so is the derivative of 2x.

What has the Judeochristian God ever done for our people?
Sent his own son to die for our sins, but to leave that story as pure hearsay?
Condemn those who don't believe in him? The innocent billions in history that never would have heard of him anyways?

Now, what if we were to say that Mathematics IS God?

Omnipotence: Absolutely anything that is logically possible can be done and figure through Mathematics at the will of Mankind

Omniscience: Absolutely any scenario that is logically possible can be known if Mankind wills it.

Omnibenevolence: Our very existence is explained by physics, which is explained by Mathematics. And if all can be done through Mathematics, all good can be done through Mathematics.

And of course, Mathematics is infallible.

If one man wills it, then Mathematics is indeed God.

And best of all, you don't have to worship Mathematics.

If Mathematics were God, and maybe it is God, then this is the kind of God I'd want to live in eternity with.

I think love is more important than mathematics.

There is a reason why the Bible doesn't say "And God said 'Let there be love'", because no matter what perceivable universe God could have created, love would have remained true. One plus One would still be two.

    Totally works.

Hmm... meaningful, but I believe love [In the nature sense] is just an exaggerated meaning that mankind wanted to give to the simpler concept of sexual attraction, which is really all that goes on in the core of the brain. And then there's relationships with family, but are those not natural? And then relationships with friends, but what kind of strength are those, really?

I'd like to explore that concept of love a bit further, but I'm busy trying to prove that God is Math now XD

"And if all can be done through Mathematics, all good can be done through Mathematics."

So can all evil. That logic doesn't follow that because it CAN be benevolent, it must be the most benevolent...being (for lack of a better word) in existence.

Also, math cannot move a rock on its own. Nor will a certain world into existence. It is a tool that's employed in everything, but it can't do anything on its own so it has no power on its own. Think pulleys. They make lifting something easier, but that doesn't mean they have any lifting power of their own.

In omniscience you make the same mistake as you did in omnibenevolence. "God is omniscient" doesn't mean that God can know everything. It means it is impossible for God not to know everything. It's certainly not impossible for man to not know everything...although you could make the argument that the concept of math knows everything that happens in the universe, but the question of that is that does math know everything in a real, concrete way? Such as: math may know a thought as an electrical impulse, but does it know what the thought entails? Emotions? It can know the vibrations caused by speech but can it understand the meaning of the words?

    I like your blogs.

Well, your points do hold. I didn't put the proper thought into how the divine definitions would even fit, but as I said, that's something I'll really like to look into someday. Philosophy can really take a toll on a man XD. If even the definition of God can have problems, I'm not sure how I'll manage defining Math as God.

And thank you. Half of them are stuff you probably won't find through Google XD

What if I were to tell you that all knowledge(physics etc) that we know right now is completely wrong and that we're incredibly stupid for believing it to be the only answer and way to look at it?

Also one plus one does not equal two. It equals flying spaghetti monster; did you even pay attention in school?

Be less pompous please. You're making all atheists look like snooty baboons.

    Signed,
Atheists who don't want to be labeled as snooty baboons.

Odd's are one plus one equals two would be completely impossible for them to understand... You know, completely different language? One that won't be based on Latin (Like the majority of our languages.)

Then again, our laws of physics and mathematics are for our planet/solar system. While some things would remain, other species could be living in a area where two plus two equaling fish is possible.

Then again, thats assuming that the species advances mathematics far enough. They could stop at their equivalent of Algebra and consider that stuff high maths forever. Then again, they could also go and come up with something that makes Calculus look like basic addition.

Don't sue me or anything. I don't want to put "This Post is Rated PG-13" above all my blog posts because you saw something inappropriate for a brain your age.
