So in an effort to save the CPU from certain doom...

Posted December 1st, 2011 at 02:36 PM by ♪Twiggy♪

I opened the PC case again. And then... I removed the entire CPU and graphics card along.

Then I removed the heatsink on the CPU. And put it under strong light.

The one thing I can say is... "Oh my. Oh my." Never before I have seen so much dust caked in - seems like blowing air on it just plain didn't work in the last few times.

So what's a plushie to do? Why, I decided to just physically remove the dust. With a toothpick. Same thing for the GPU cooler that's also caked in heatsink dust.

Now the CPU is idling at 30 degrees C at stock speeds, and no longer exceeds 60 degrees under load. The only time where it exceeds 60 degrees is when I'm running Intel Burn Test, and that's supposed to test stability - and everything checked out, and the performance's consistent...

I think I didn't even have to pay anything in the end. Should have paid more attention...

Most important part of dusting out a PC: always check the heat sinks for dust. Dust suffocates everything in a computer.
