My month with Netflix
Posted January 14th, 2012 at 11:58 PM by Mr Cat Dog
OK, so Netflix decided to finally get their act together and enter the UK for the first time. To help ingratiate themselves with UKers that don't have as much access to streaming video as USers, they've even gone about and started one of those 1-moth free-trial thingies, in the hopes that many people will sign up and forget to click the button that says 'Cancel subscription'. But they didn't count on me being a cheap sonofagun! It also doesn't help that their library is very piddly - to put it mildly - at the moment. Because of this, I've made a list of everything I'd like to watch on Netflix UK, and am going to try and watch it all in the next month. Yay? And yes, I'm so like that crazy woman from Julie and Julia (which you shouldn't see, incidentally, but whatevs). Here's the list:
So, Feb 10 is the end date. (A few days were taken away due to a few DRM issues which were solved by the RIDICULOUSLY perky call centre staff down the phone. Those people could probably cure depression if they were given access to medical equipment.) The free trial will expire and then I'll have to *GASP* BUY STUFF if I want to see them (cause I'm a good boy and don't stream films unless I have no other way of obtaining them). Wish me luck!

Kinda wish we had something like this in NZ . . . we've got no Netflix, no Hulu, no Crunchyroll . . . We've got iSky, but it only shows current NZ programming that's on TV anyway. It's good if you miss an episode, but there's no chance of getting simulcasting anime or other shows from overseas.
Also I agree Julie and Julia was terrible.Posted January 15th, 2012 at 07:51 PM by Misheard Whisper

I love Secretary! Maggie Gyllenhaal plays such a weird but sympathetic character.
City of God is so violent it makes Quentin Tarantino blush. It's such a mind trip the fact that's it's entirely realistic only makes it more messed up and mind trippy.
Don't bother with Starship Troopers. Even people who like scifi-war movies don't think it's very good.Posted January 15th, 2012 at 08:29 PM by Scarf
