Hiatus Explained

Posted July 27th, 2012 at 9:07 AM by Kip

Hey guys. It's been a while.

Things haven't been great for me the past six months or so. It has partly been tied up with increased pressure from my second-year studies, but mostly because of the student house I was living in and the landlord. She was really evil to us. The house was appalling, the energy bills were spiraling way above what they had promised to be and the university accommodation department, who are supposed to protect the students from abusive landlords, didn't seem to care about no matter how many times we complained. One person in my house was also the source of my anxiety - he was a really good friend at one time, or so I thought. Turns out he was a really manipulative b*****d who had just lead all of us on for his own selfish reasons, and we were thick enough to think he was genuinely our friend. So all of that piled on top of each other caused me to undergo a hell of a lot of stress, more stress that I have ever experienced before; I missed two assignment deadlines and around March or so I started having panic-attacks.

It's now been a few weeks since I've finished my university coursework and I have now been out of that horrible house for just over a month. It's taken me a while to recover, but I'm loads better than I was. I don't know what caused me to cut myself off from PC (I was still on Facebook and Twitter, but that was more of a social and film-making necessity and I didn't really enjoy it), and I really missed it here.

So… my advice for anyone looking for student homes in the UK: if it's a small house and it's housing more than four students, look somewhere else. Always go all-inclusive on the bills because it will work out miles cheaper. Also, if a landlord's offer seems to good to be true, it probably is. And finally, if you see the house belongs to a firm called BITS Heritage Ltd. (those in the Worcester & Hereford area), DO NOT GO FOR IT HOWEVER GOOD IT LOOKS.

It's going to take me quite a while to get used to it all once again, and to reacquaint myself with all of you, but I'm really looking forward to it. I've tried to answer every VM and PM I got in my absence, but if I've missed anybody, do let me know.

I guess I'll see you around. Shout-out to all those watching the Olympic Opening Ceremony tonight. I'll totally be on IRC for that.
