So for the last couple days, I've been feeling something in the back of my throat. On the first day I thought it was just some food I swallowed wrong or something. On the second day I realized it felt like a bump, and started to worry I had strep (I've never had it before) or tonsillitis. Sure enough when I checked in the mirror I could see a white bump on the back of my tonsil there was a white bump. I went to the school nurse and she told me that sometimes food can get caught int he grooves of your tonsil or whatever, and then bacteria grows on it and you get a white bump called a tonsillolith. Well after two more days and no strep throat I'm pretty sure that's what I have.

Here's a pic of what they look like (warning its kinda gross): http://www.ghorayeb.com/files/Tonsil..._800x600_G.jpg

AND ITS SO ANNOYING. I can feel it constantly in the back of my throat and every time I swallow. And the other morning it was... agitated or something and it felt like I was choking each time I swallowed. I've tried all the home remedies I've come across (gargling salt water, gargling seltzer, trying to push it out with a Q-tip) and they all make me gag :( I don't know what to do to get rid of it, and its weird since it JUST developed but it doesn't seem like it wants to come out. And I really don't want to get surgery for something that seems so trivial/surgery scares me/I JUST WANT IT GONE :((( Also it causes bad breath which I just noticed happening :(((((

If anyone had one of these and knows how to get rid of it share please!

Throat problems are REALLY annoying. I have to deal with them for almost 3-4 months a year and it's just...bad. But I don't think I've ever had this white bump thingy.

Then again, I never checked. There were times when the pain would become too much for me to eat or speak but I never bothered to see what's wrong, lmao. :p Anyway, hope you get rid of it asap! Like I said, throat problems are freakin' annoying and I know it from experience. :<

Tom, I am really sorry to hear that this thing STILL hasn't gone away, because I know that it has been hurting you, and I have had throat problems in the past and they are indeed the worst. As for this particular problem I have never had it, but be greatful that you don't have strep because it is the worst sickness ever that also gives you a fever.

As for remedies just keep trying what you have been doing, and for relief have a cough drop and it should provide some comfort and you can also take something like advil to relieve some of the pain quickly. As for getting rid of it idk. Maybe see a doctor if things haven't improved after the weekend. But I really hope things get better for ya!

That white stuff is tonsil stones lol they're white calcium build-up that is really, super mega concentrated and stinky.

I get them from time to time. They're nasty. Very uncomfortable, too, but even worse when they fall into your mouth and it crumbles! Ew!

    lol

I actually did a search on it a month or so ago 'cause I was curious about what they were... It's not strep. It's not contagious. You just got something lodged back there and it "grew." Gross, right?

It'll come out by itself eventually. I read Q-Tips are OK to use, but if it doesn't come out... It doesn't come out. It will by itself, though.

Yeah I thought the same thing, and then realized it was the school nurse, and there might be certain restrictions that prevent her from prescribing antibiotics because it is at school. but not sure on this.
