an afternoon of shopping
Let me make this clear: I absolutely hate shopping. And I don't just hate it, I despise it.
But this afternoon I was forced to go through four hours of tailing my sister, cousins, and niece in a mall six-hundred times bigger than the Hoover Dam. Or at least that's what it felt like to me, anyway.
I gotta admit, though, it was pretty cool. I didn't pay for anything. Growing up as a poor kid, we didn't have the money to buy the things I actually like. So when one of my cousins got married to a rich British dude, she started giving us gifts that were expensive.
We ate first at a fast-food restaurant, and then she bought me three blouses and a short black skirt, all from Bench. Then we roamed around various other stores, until she found Silverworks. That's when all hell broke loose.
She bought me silver earrings and a necklace with my initial, H.
I know it sounds pretty awesome to get free jewelry, but I am so not comfortable with accessories. I'm a bit of a tomboy when it comes to these things. I just didn't have the heart to say "I'm sorry, but I don't like stuff like this."
And the worst part of it all was the fact that everything she bought was super-duper expensive. For me, of course. But for her, it's like she was just doing what she did everyday.
In my head, I was thinking, "Maybe she's just buying all these things 'cause it's almost Christmas." But when we got home, she said, "Just wait till Christmas! I'm going to get you a dress!"
I appreciate the gifts she gave me, I really do. And it's good to have a change one in a while.
Shopping's not that bad, after all.
