Many Gold/Silver fans are good liars
Posted June 27th, 2009 at 01:50 PM by Hiroshi Sotomura
This is a small rant. (That was self-contradictory.)
Half the people in the HeartGold/SoulSilver forum at PC cannot seriously have played a ten year old game ten years ago. (And if you account for the fact that the US release came a year later, it would've been nine years ago.) Take the average age of PC's members who post there - 14 to 15. So people would've been five or six years old when the game came out. (Six year olds have better-developed brains than five year olds, but they're still not too conscious.) I was 10 when the games came out. I know where things are. (Yet with Red and Blue, I was heavily confused.)
Skip to now - one member commented on the Trainer House and how you can battle Cal in there. Cripes, Mr. Member; have you ever used Mystery Gift? I think you've been emulating Gold and Silver.
Most of the people in that forum really clamour for this game. Maybe their parents bought a Game Boy for them at some point; but for some of the people here, they never bought the game; what the hell do you guys think you're clamouring for, seriously?
Hell, a fraction of that forum's base weren't even BORN when Red and Green (much less Blue) came out.

Back in my day, we didn't have these doo-hickory ROMs or R4 thingys! If we wanted to play a game, we had to buy it and understand how it all worked ourselves, or buy a guide!
I do find some of the misconceptions amusing at times... meanwhile, without trying I just remember too darn much about GSC. I could recite the in-game trainers' Pokemon in order (potentially down to levels for the most part even) because I replayed GSC that much/can't get that knowledge out of my head. =/
Incidentally I discovered the hidden Mystery Gift/Trainer House function by myself on 'accident'... surprised me at the time to see someone else throw out a level 100 Tyrannitar at me. XD
AH WELL not much one can do about the new fans who didn't live GSC as religiously as we have. XD Maybe though they still enjoyed it... just not to the full extent as we did, when we did. (Although I hear the bandwagon is mighty fun to ride on this time of year).Posted June 27th, 2009 at 02:10 PM by bobandbill

Gold and Silver came out when I was 7 and a half years old. I had a normal old gameboy that I either bought or was given to me by my older family members when I was around 4-5 years old. I had no idea what it was for. Then I learned. At 7 I bought the games for my nameday. I still have my gameboy and silver which just died out on me yesterday so i can tell you I am not one of those liars.Posted June 27th, 2009 at 02:57 PM by Mitchman

While this might be true for the bulk of people there, some 5-6 year olds probably did play and for the best part understand Silver/Gold
I was fine with my Blue when I must've being 8 maybe?
And I understood Sonic and Golden Axe from about 5-6 onwards. It wasn't too hard to understand a game where you walk on a pretty linear map doing pretty linear things and near enough every town has about 3 people literally telling you what to do next. :pPosted June 27th, 2009 at 03:37 PM by Fox♠

...I was 9 when I played Red (and played it fine). My brother was about 6 or 7 when GSC came out and he played it just fine. o_o; Why would there have been an issue? Dude, a lot of people know how to read and take in information just fine at that age.
Besides, so what if they haven't played the original? Does that mean they aren't entitled to look forward to the remake and hope for things to be included in it? I hope not because if that were the case, Pokemon would die off pretty fast.
It's not even aimed at me and I'm still insulted by this blog post. :'(Posted June 28th, 2009 at 01:12 AM by Lightning
