Buick, Then and Now: Mid-size

So, you may be asking, "Yo, LeSabre, you keep mentioning the old Buicks, but what are your thoughts on their current fleet?" Well, wonder no longer and just look below...

The old: Buick Century

The new: Buick LaCrosse

I'll be honest. I'm not a big fan of the new LaCrosse styling. It suffers from the "narrow window" and "tiny rear decklid" syndromes. The former makes it look too pudgy in the midsection and those tiny side windows can't be good for visibility - or if you're claustrophobic. The latter is just plain ridiculous. If you're going to make the trunk opening that small, why not just make the thing a hatchback? Looks much too sporty for my tastes... and likely for the average Buick buyer as well.

I'm told it's supposed to be a good-performing vehicle, but I just can't see myself behind the wheel of any of these modern-looking cars with odd exterior proportions. When did a decently-sized trunk and decently-sized windows go out of style?

In future installments of Buick: Then and Now, I'll look at Buick's other two current offerings as well as their equivalent "classic" models.
