I played with using paths & eraser to get the render and it worked all right. And then I played with layers and semi-transparent gradients to get this.

And there is a V-day Banner Competition in Pokémon Anime that I want to enter but have no ideas for.

    I think the focal is too dark (either the gradient or something else) and I think the gradient could be good, but reduce the opacity a bit. It goes to black way too quickly and is just empty space.

    That and you nicked him several times when rendering him...I can see tiny chunks of his outline missing. (I know it's tricky, so it's not like that's worth major points off, just letting ya know)
