Microsoft ♥ Price Extortion

Upgrade pricing for Windows 7 in America: $119.99 (Windows 7 Home Premium), $199.99 (Windows 7 Professional) and $219.99 (Windows 7 Ultimate). The Ultimate SKU's price is pretty nice (if not somewhat expensive) candy, right?

Down under, the prices are up and over. (Prices in brackets are US conversions of the day.)

Ladies and gentlemen, you may have read this in a tech blog (but as a Mac user who relies on Windows occasionally) I haven't. But the prices:
$199 ($166.74), $399 ($334.31) and $429 ($359.45) for Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate respectively. Remember, that our prices include sales tax. Take that into account though and stuff still looks cheaper there (if you don't count Home Premium).

This is worse than $99 Wii games.

(It's also bigger incentive to pirate titles.)

    Here we are lucky enough to get a free upgrade with a purchase of a PC to either premium or ultimate. So yeah poor you.

    I might be able to get a copy pretty cheaply, actually. D; MSDN Academic Alliance benefits, though it might take a while before they actually offer it. :(

    lol Canada has sales tax too but our prices are nothing near that. Hooray for living near the US. We put up with more expensive stuff but not THAT expensive. XD;
