Pics or it didn't happen (Part 5)
Spoiler:
This one's the biggest personal meet-up yet! Today - as well as yesterday and tomorrow - was the MCM Expo in the ExCeL Centre in London: essentially the UK's answer to Comic-Con/Anime North/any big-ish convention-type-deal. Despite living in London for four years, I'd never heard of it until our very own Captain Fabio and Kura told me of its existence. BRAINWAVE: PC Meet-up time again! :D
From left to right, and in various stages of cosplay: Kura (fully cosplaying as Lightning from Final Fantasy Something), myself (fully cosplaying as someone not doing cosplay), Captain Fabio (partially cosplaying as Dr. Franken Stein from Soul Eater) and Drakow (partially cosplaying as Blade from the Blade franchise). I say 'partially' cosplaying in Will and Drakow's cases because they'd removed some of their costumes just before the photo was taken. Will had a funky head bolt, and Drakow had about 3 swords - one of which was secretly an umbrella that I now want really, really badly.
The convention itself was really interesting, but I'll admit that I approached it in more of an anthropological way than most of the other people there (a.k.a. I stood around going 'WOW! COOL COSTUME!' to most of the cosplayers). Indeed, I'd estimate that at least 70% of all attendees were in some sort of fancy dress.
My favourite one, which I unfortunately didn't get a picture of, was of the Ice Queen from the Adventure Time episode 'Fionna and Cake'. It was really well crafted and looked incredibly professional and kinda scary... in a good way of course. Other standouts were a Zoe Saldana-in-full-on-Avatar-mode with a badass tail and a crossbow, as well as Kura herself, who proved to be very popular with the numerous amateur photographers.
Other amusing tidbits included a stall inside that sold paintings of My Little Ponies as Game of Thrones characters; three different types of root beer (for Syd: IBC, Berghoff, Virgils. Ring any bells?) as well as numerous hentai stalls staffed by people probably too young to legally read the contents of the magazines!
The convention continues tomorrow, and I'll probably be heading back to check out more of it but, for now, here is the picture!
ALSO: WENT AND RAZOR LEAF! I HAVEN'T WATCHED EUROVISION YET! IF YOU SPOIL WHO HAS WON IN THIS THREAD, I WILL PERSONALLY COME TO YOUR HOUSE AND MURDER ALL OF YOUR LOVED ONES AND THEN YOURSELVES, SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY! Kthxbai. :D
