Disappointment.

Posted November 20th, 2012 at 10:06 PM by curiousnathan

So yeah, I just completed my Chemistry exam today. I think I've probably failed. Strangely, although I'm not happy with myself at all, and am hugely disappointed, I...I dunno. I don't feel as bad as I think I 'should.' I've never hardly failed anything at school (besides sport -- which I know that I suck), and to have all my hard work...go down the drain in that one 95 minute period..was a real big slap in the face. I'm..confused. This is mostly a vent, since I don't think it'd be particularly good if I didn't release a bit of my emotions somewhere. I think the most approporiate thing to do now is to dust myself off and get back up again. I need to maintain a clear viewpoint. I cannot let this disappointment cause trouble in the rest of my exams. I don't know if I've failed or not, my teacher will call over this week to let me know if I have. She's a fast marker so she's likely to call tonight. I just hope I don't get that call.

But now I have a question for you! How do you deal with disappointment? Do you dwell on it? How do you deal with failure? Do you think it's good to fail every now and then? Is it better than sometimes succeeding?

Failure is sort of ephemeral, I had a quarter last year when I got all B's and C's, but then I picked it up and brought my GPA up to 3.7 and 3.95 the next years [mainly A's, B+]. Just keep working hard and you'll see success in the future.

I always found at school that I felt my best when I went to bed the night before an exam. Because at that point you know, no matter whether you pass or fail, at that moment there's nothing more you can do. It's all over, and now all that's left is actually taking the exam.

I think that might be why you don't feel so terrible. It's done. Either way, it's done and there's nothing more that can be done.

In any case, don't worry too much about it. You work harder than any student I know, and often the tests I thought I'd tanked were the ones I'd done surprisingly well in. Chin up, you'll be fine!

(and this is only Year 11 anyway, nothing actually matters until Year 12 and even then not nearly as much as you'd think )

Hey I recently failed a Chemistry test, (which is NOT something that usually happens) so if you did in fact fail then we would be twins! :D And since I'm already gonna post this, I may as well answer the questions too!

For a major disappointment I tend to get very sad, and then get angry at what ever disappointed me, and blame them. yes, it's immature, but sometimes you just need to be angry, right? After that, I'm fine again, and it doesn't hurt anyone. I never take it out on people though, or I try not to.

I dwell briefly briefly on it, but get over it pretty quickly. Usually.

I hate failing at things. Which is ironic because I'm also very lazy and often unmotivated. :/

Perhaps it is a good thing to fail. It can be a wake up call, a good learning experience, and keeps you from being too full of it.

I guess it can be better than winning sometimes. It can be fun to fail, and also the reasons above. ^^

In any case, if you did fail your chemistry exam it's probably no big deal. In any case, the most important thing is that you know the material, instead of getting the best score. (And since you seem to be a good student, it shouldn't affect your grade too much. :/)

Hey don't worry :3, I've failed quite a few tests on 'Space and Geometry' and other subjects, so try not to let the thought of failure get the better of you :). The most important thing, is to think positive, even if you do fail I'm sure your grades won't go down the drain, since you've always gotten great marks. It was only one test so I don't think you should be too worried alright ;)?

For me, when I do fail, I'm not too upset over it. I just remember, nobody in life can be perfect and you can always absolutely always learn from your mistakes :D. And those two sayings kept me going and stopped me from what would of been tears and tantrums. So even if you do fail, I'm sure when your next exam comes you'll be top of the class :3, or near the top the very least.

I do dwell on it though sometimes, I constantly tell myself 'where did I go wrong?', 'But...I thought I got it right, how is this possible?' and sometimes negative thoughts like 'I bet I got the worst mark...' come to me but rarely.

Sometimes I think failure is actually a great thing. Although it doesn't have any hint of a fantastic thing, it helps you learn and prevent something from happening again. You can learn what went wrong and in the next test, if a question like that pops up, you'll know the right answer.

So yeah don't be worried :3, I'm sure you went just fine.
