This is just a personal blog where I occasionally review stuff, since apparently I like writing. Don't expect my reviews to be amazing, but personally, I feel they're pretty good! The rating system is different between mediums. Video games I give a letter grade, Movies and TV shows I give star grades. Note that a fraction after a number of stars means that many stars plus that fraction of another star. I.e. *** 3/4 would be three full stars and three quarters of another star. Hope you guys like the stuff!
Past Reviews:
-Resident Evil 6 (B+; 2012 In-Review Contest Winner)
-Zero Dark Thirty (didn't rate)
-Warm Bodies (***)
-The Walking Dead Season 3 Midseason Premier (*** 3/4)
-The Walking Dead "House" S3;E10 (**** 1/4)
-Dead Space 2 (A)
-The Amazing Spider-Man (*** 3/4)

So PC is the new Facebook?

I just came back from a leave of absence yesterday, so don't hate me for criticizing this now. But I just realized that PC implemented a new "like" mechanism. Honestly, I don't know what I think about that. Personally, I feel like using a like system for posts in the forum is the wrong way to use them. Not saying that it's a bad way, but I feel there's another proper way they can be used. That's irrelevant, though.
I kind of think the system's a little lame, honestly. I always looked at PC as unique, so using a system that's so widely used kind of killed the uniqueness, in all honestly. This is all in my opinion, by the way, feel free to disagree. And no, I'm not going to call for the higher ups to take it down, cause that's stupid. I'm just saying what I think. It'd be cooler if you could like blogs or blog posts in my opinion (and if you can already, then I'm just being ignorant, my bad). I just don't that the like system works.
If there's anything you should copy, it should be a proper chat mechanism, in my opinion. Somewhat like FB's I guess. I'd rather not have to go to some external source, or have to stay on a single page, you know? I know that's probably impossible, but I'm just throwing it out there.
Also, what ever happened to my " 'You have a blog comment' notification" idea....
Haha, I talk to much. Patatatata blahhhhh.

there is a thread for discussing likes
Firstly, 'likes' have been added not too long ago and people have been enjoying the feature and it praises the user if they post a good post, whereas before the only recognition was a rare emblem. It's a good way to see if people like your posts and motivates you to post more; making you more active.
As for blog notifications, it's being worked on.Posted December 16th, 2012 at 11:08 PM by Pave Low

I'm aware there's a thread. I felt like posting a blog though, so I did.
I'm not saying the system is crap, nor am I saying that other people don't like them, I'm just saying what I feel and believe. And like I said, personally, I think it kills what made PC unique. And I feel like it could have been better used. As for getting likes motivates more activity, I don't think that's necessarily true.Posted December 16th, 2012 at 11:12 PM by Bloodex

Okay, I'm probably gonna incite something by saying this, but the way I see it, a like system is basically a popularity contest. That's definitely how it is on Facebook 8 times out of 10. I fear it'll be the same here too. Granted, I haven't actually looked to see how right or wrong I am. But that's my thoughts. The system gets abused.Posted December 16th, 2012 at 11:23 PM by Bloodex

It's not mandatory you use it, so don't. I like it for the fact that like Kura mentioned, you can show your interest in a post (whether it be funny, good quality) when you haven't got anything solid to really contribute to the discussion at-hand. I haven't seen it be used as a popularity thing as of yet, so I'd have to disagree with you there.Posted December 17th, 2012 at 01:07 AM by Curious.

I'm very well aware that I don't have to use it if I don't want to. I also said that I fear it'll be a popularity thing, not that it already is. And yes, what Kura said is the foil to my argument, but then again, my argument really is that PC is becoming stereotypical.
As for the chat idea, I meant one on one sessions, like PMs, only in real time.Posted December 17th, 2012 at 01:36 AM by Bloodex

Like I said, the chat would be really hard to moderate. Plus.. flash crashing and everything.. especially on mobile browsing. Not to mention both people have to be there at the same time. For me, even though I'd like to think I am chatty, my VMs don't even get used (or hardly!) so I don't see how that feature could even work if people don't even bother to leave me one of those.
A discussion would derail because people would stick to their own little chats..Posted December 17th, 2012 at 01:53 AM by Kura

The like system, from what I have seen so far, has proven to be the exact opposite of this 'popularity contest' you speak of. i can't recall a single, minuscule rise in ego from anyone on this forum due to getting likes. You can't see how many likes a person has total, only the amount of likes on a post. If that post has a lot of likes, then that post has been deemed to be good by a multitude of people. Naturally, your friends will be more inclined to like your posts, but god forbid friends sticking together, eh? When has the system gotten abused? When? You've been back for what, two days? As the phrase goes, don't hate from outside the club.Posted December 17th, 2012 at 02:19 AM by Harlequin

Someone obviously can't read. I said that I fear it'll become one. Not that it is one now. Might wanna reread before you go blasting me. Also, for the record, I never said that I was right. For all I know, the like system might become what makes PC even more of a community. The reason I wrote the blog is to express what I PERSONALLY feel. And that is that it makes PC less unique for me. I believe that PC was fine the way it was when I first joined, minus that awful reputation thing. If you want to knock me for what I believe, especially since I'm not telling you to believe the same thing, then you can leave. K thanks.
EDIT: And when I said it gets abused, I was referring to the Facebook one.
And Kura, I did say that it was probably impossible. But hey, can't hurt to hope, right?Posted December 17th, 2012 at 03:06 AM by Bloodex

Okay, maybe that statement was a little harsh. I guess what I'm basically trying to say is that I liked PC how it was, and that it really didn't need to be changed. Of course, benefits can and do come from something like this, and other people might appreciate them. I personally don't, but I'm not going to sound off for justice. That's why I made this blog, to out my opinion. I'm not here to start a revolution or something.Quote:
And I don't recall saying anywhere that people aren't free to express their own opinion, even if they counter mine. The ending to my last post was trying to imply that you don't have to be an ass about it.
And no one has to respect my opinion. That wasn't the point of the blog.Posted December 17th, 2012 at 10:49 PM by Bloodex
