Gender bending.

Setting your gender to female if you're a male does not mean you are a gender bender.
Setting your gender to male if you're a female does not mean you are a gender bender.
If you think you're a gender bender, chances are you probably aren't.
If you attempt to gender bend in an attempt to get an emblem out of it, shame on you.
There are people -- tons of them, in fact, at this community alone -- who have some serious issues with their gender and identifying themselves as male or female. While gender bending is associated more-so with gender roles than it is identifying as one or the other, the amount of people who claim to be gender benders around here make me feel like they are over-simplifying a complicated problem in some peoples' lives that make these people who don't feel like they have an identity and suffer from internal issues that stem from not knowing who they are. Identifying as male or female is something that every single human being has to experience and is one of the very basic and few labels that people would prefer to be associated with and not have problems with.
Every single person who claims to be a gender bender (or worse), every person who attempts to gender bend in an attempt to get an emblem out of it make me sick and they should all seriously reconsider what they deem to be important around here.
I don't take things very seriously around here, but I find things like this to be really disappointing.

I don't really care either way. It's almost always really obvious that they aren't doing it maliciously. These people aren't trying to make light of transgender issues or anything. Who the hell are we to say they can't identify with/as the other gender, even if not seriously? It's just a profile field and an identity/personality on the internet. I just decide to see it as they don't care about gender roles as, honestly, no one should. There's a big difference between exaggerating the social traits of the opposite gender for a laugh and actually struggling with gender and that difference is always obvious on PC. For me, anyway.
I mean, if I go set my gender to male and joke about it a bit, I'm obviously not trying to belittle anyone who actually has issues with gender. Besides, that emblem was ALWAYS for people who, regardless of gender set in profile, always seemed to be assumed as the opposite gender. It had nothing to do with parading around as an exaggerated stereotype of the other gender and if anyone's been giving out the emblem on that pretense, they've been doing it wrong. But if that's what it's turned into and it's offending people, the emblem should be removed/retired. Simple as that.
(It's the people who set their gender to the opposite gender--the one they don't identify with--and then get insulted when people call them with that gender's pronouns that confuse me. Like... you're bringing it upon yourself...?)
There's only one person in the whole history of PC whose strange treatment of gender offended me and I don't think that person comes here anymore so whatever edit: nvm just saw a post by them, sigh.Posted March 15th, 2013 at 07:21 PM by Lightning

That's pretty much how I feel.Quote:
I'm pretty much mistaken as a "female" often, but, it's not really a big deal; I'd just politely correct them. Despite what others might say, I never really found any desire to gender bend at all, nor do I see the point. :xPosted March 15th, 2013 at 08:35 PM by Miss Doronjo

I used to do it for fun cause I just liked confusing people. I got the emblem, but I didn't really do it just for that. I kept doing it just because it was amusing. It was never out of malicious intent or to get an emblem. But it is annoying when people make such a conscious effort to point out that they're genderbending here, and clearly only want the emblem.
Point is, I don't see a problem in doing it for fun like I did for a few years, but doing it obnoxiously and making this huge effort to be one is annoying and disrespectful.Posted March 15th, 2013 at 09:18 PM by Sydian
